Mr. Jonathan Gilpatrick
Dated: Wednesday, June 19, 2002.
Mr. Jonathan Richard Gilpatrick, 20, of St. Simon Terrace, Frederick, formerly of Gray, Maine, died Thursday, June 13, at his home.

Born in Englewood, Colo., he was a son of Richard and Judith Layne Pearsall Gilpatrick of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.

Mr. Gilpatrick attended schools in Charleston, W.Va. and graduated from Martinsburg, W.Va., public schools.

He had been working as assistant manager at Papa John's Pizza in Frederick, at the time of his death.

He was an avid skateboarder and enjoyed working on remodeling automobiles.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his maternal grandmother, Ruby Pearsall of Napa, Idaho; his paternal grandparents, Russell and Dorothy Gilpatrick of Sprucehead, Maine; and his sister, Jodi Gilpatrick of Las Vegas, Nev.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, June 21, at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland, Maine, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, with the Rev. Andrew Satta officiating.

Interment will be private.

Mr. Steven Smith
Dated: Wednesday, June 19, 2002.
Mr. Steven John Smith, 60, of Frederick, died Monday, June 17, at the National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda.

He was the husband of Juanita Smith.

He was born June 20, 1941, in Los Angeles, Calif.

Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Naval Intelligence from 1961 to 1981.

Surviving in addition to his wife are four children, Matthew Smith and Jennifer White, both of Minnesota, Priscilla Fontenot of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., and Jimmie Auvil of Rockville; one sister, Kathy Louring of Salt Lake City; seven grandchildren, Corinna Fontenot, Dylon Smith, Kyle Fontenot, Anthony White, Dakota Smith, Mickaila Smith and Derek Smith; and two nephews.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by one son, Gregory Smith.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 20, in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.

Arrangements are being handled by Resthaven Funeral Services of Frederick.

Mr. Ralph Keilholtz Sr.
Dated: Wednesday, June 19, 2002.
Mr. Ralph Lee Keilholtz Sr., 75, of Emmitsburg, died Tuesday, June 18, at his home.

He was the husband of Francis M. Baker Keilholtz, his wife of 53 years.

Born Aug. 9, 1926, in Rocky Ridge, he was a son of the late Ernest F. and Edith C. Valentine Keilholtz.

Mr. Keilholtz was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific theater from 1944 to 1947. Upon discharge from the Navy, he worked for the U.S. government at Fort Ritchie for 25 years. Upon his retirement from the government, he was employed at Mount St. Mary's College for 15 years.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Emmitsburg.

Mr. Keilholtz was a member of Knights of Columbus, Brute Council 1860 and Emmitsburg Post 6658 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

In 1961, he founded the Rocky Ridge Progressive 4-H Club and was club leader for 12 years.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters, Rebecca L. Thompson and husband Bernard of Frederick, Mary Ann Gill and husband John of Waynesboro, Pa., and Angela M. Keilholtz, at home; four sons, Ralph Lee Keilholtz Jr. and wife Charlene of Thurmont, Thomas E. Keilholtz and wife Karen of Ortanna, Pa., Jeffery M. Keilholtz and wife Debra of Smithsburg, and Stephen D. Keilholtz and wife Lori of York Springs, Pa.; 24 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Anna V. Law of Gettysburg, Pa., and Hazel M. Stonesifer of Keysville; and one brother, Vernon G. Keilholtz of Emmitsburg.

Mr. Keilholtz was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy A. Knipple and Novella E. Dinterman; and two brothers, Merle F. Keilholtz and Raymond E. Keilholtz.

Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Friday, June 21, at Skiles Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. and Christian wake services will be held at 8 p.m. Friday.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 22, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Emmitsburg. Mr. Keilholtz's pastor, the Rev. James O. Kiernan, will be the celebrant.

Interment will be in New St. Joseph cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either Alzheimer's Association, Western Maryland Chapter, 108 Byte Drive, Suite 103, Frederick, Md. 21702; or Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, Md. 21702-0799.

Mrs. Juanita Boltz
Dated: Wednesday, June 19, 2002.
Mrs. Juanita E. Boltz, 72, of Woodsboro, died Monday, June 17, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Born Feb. 10, 1930, in Kings Mountain, Ky., she was a daughter of the late Silas and Bessie Adams Elliott.

Mrs. Boltz retired as a quality control manager, after 17 years of employment with the Montgomery County school system. She loved her work and the children she worked with.

Surviving are four children, Bruce Donald Boltz Jr. and wife Paula S. of Purcellville, Va., Michael N. Boltz and wife Valerie F. of Woodsboro, Sally Ann Boltz of Richmond, Va., and Howard W. Boltz III of Frederick; four grandchildren, Jason Matthew Boltz, Timothy Boltz, Katherine Leigh Boltz and Jessica M. Boltz; three sisters, Beatrice Moore of Fayettville, Ohio, Gwendolyn Ludka of New Braunfield, Texas, and Nancy Fortunato of Dameron; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Boltz was preceded in death by one brother, Ronald Elliott; and one sister, Lois Johnson.

The family will receive friends from noon Thursday, June 20, until time of funeral services at 2 p.m. Thursday, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. The Rev. Donald Hammond will officiate.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Foundation International, 120 Wall St., New York, N.Y. 10005-4001.

Mr. Lewis Lester Jr.
Dated: Thursday, June 20, 2002.
Mr. Lewis Elmer Lester Jr., 91, of Frederick, formerly of Tillamook, Ore., died Saturday, June 15, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

He was preceded in death by three wives, Mary M. Bett Lester, Gladys Shortridge Lester and Catherine Lindsay Hammond Lester.

Born Sept. 30, 1910, in Powell River, British Columbia, Canada, he was a son of the late Lewis E. Sr. and Pheby Cook Lester.

Mr. Lester attended Satsop School District 104 in Montesano, Wash., until the fourth grade.

In his younger years, he was a farm helper then a mill worker at Hart Mill Company, South Bend, Wash. He was also a logger in Washington and Oregon and a mill worker for Louisiana & Pacific International, Tillamook, from where he retired in 1975.

Mr. Lester was the first baby born in Powell River, and the town gave him a park, which he subsequently gave back to the town.

He enjoyed feeding birds in his yard, visiting Baker Park, and spending time with the family dachshund.

Surviving are four children, James Lewis Lester and wife Jacklyn of Frederick, Bonnie Madara and husband Mike of Ellensburg, Wash., Leda Stouenburg of Portland, Ore., and Stanley Mezyk of Woodland, Va.; three stepchildren, Ernest E. Hoffman, Vernon W. Hoffman and wife Darece, and Harvey R. Reeves, all of Oregon; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Mr. Lester was preceded in death by six brothers, Edward, Ralph, Ora, Leonard, Lawrence and Lonnie Lester; and one sister, Mildred Lester.

The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. Monday, July 1, until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. at Brown's Funeral Home, 299 N. Market Boulevard, Chehalis, Wash.

Interment will be in Claquato cemetery, Chehalis, Wash.

Local arrangements are by Stauffer Funeral Home, Frederick.

Mrs. Naomi Trettien
Dated: Thursday, June 20, 2002.
Mrs. Naomi Dilge Trettien, 92, formerly of Appleton, Wis., died Tuesday, June 18, in Frederick.

She was the wife of Harry E. Trettien, who died Sept. 10, 1972. They were married March 28, 1936.

Born Sept. 9, 1909, in Tigerton, Wis., she was a daughter of the late Heinrich and Amalie Diem Dilge.

Surviving are four sons, Jay Trettien of San Jose, Costa Rica, Doug Trettien of Frederick, Tom Trettien of Garden City, N.Y., and Warren Trettien of Savannah, Ga.; one sister, Edna Newbury and husband John of Appleton; and six grandchildren, Ryan, Blake, Bradley, Whitney, Caitlin and Devon Trettien.

Mrs. Trettien was preceded in death by one sister, Viola Trieglaff; and one brother, Elmer Dilge.

Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 22, until the time of funeral services at 11:30 a.m. at Brettschneider-Trettin-Lederer Funeral Chapel, 606 N. Oneida St., Appleton. The Rev. Todd Murken will officiate.

Interment will be in Riverside cemetery.

Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, Frederick, was in charge of local arrangements.

Mrs. Grace Altman
Dated: Thursday, June 20, 2002.
Mrs. Grace Elizabeth Droneburg Altman, 72, of Mount Pleasant, died Wednesday, June 19, at her home after a long illness.

She was the wife of Floyd H. Altman, who died in 1991.

Born Sept. 30, 1929, in Frederick County, she was a daughter of the late George H. and Ruth M. Masser Droneburg.

Mrs. Altman was a lifelong member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church-McKaig.

She enjoyed the outdoors and fishing.

Mrs. Altman was the wife of a farmer until he retired and became ill. She cared for him until his death.

She enjoyed the many activities and projects she did for the church. She also had a job near her home to keep busy.

Mrs. Altman loved her job and enjoyed the friendship of the Morningside Inn owners, Jeanie and Rodger Cochran, and the people she worked with.

Surviving are four children, Jane E. Bartgis and husband Harry of Frederick, Henry W. Altman and wife Veronica of Waynesboro, Pa., James B. Altman of Mount Pleasant, and Melinda A. Altman of Frederick; two brothers, G. Roger Droneburg and wife Ardell of Frederick, Paul L. Droneburg and wife Narissa of Walkersville; two sisters, Mildred L. Wisner and husband Paul of Shookstown, and Virginia M. Smith and husband Herman of Woodsboro; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; one great-grandchild; one stepgreat-grandchild; three sisters-in-law, Madeline Thompson and Elsie E. Droneburg, both of Frederick, and Pamela J. Droneburg of Thurmont; and one aunt, Goldie Wilson of Frederick.

Mrs. Altman will also be remembered by her long-time friend, John Poole.

Mrs. Altman was preceded in death by two sons, Raymond L. Altman and Harry G. Altman; three brothers, Glen R. Droneburg, Clyde H. Droneburg and Lee C. Droneburg; and one stepgrandson, James M. Valliere.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 20, and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, June 21, at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 22, at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, to help build a handicap/wheelchair ramp, may be made to Mount Zion United Methodist Church-McKaig, c/o Mary McKnight, 4 E. 13th St., Frederick, Md. 21701.

Mr. Harold Fraley
Dated: Thursday, June 20, 2002.
Mr. Harold Eugene Fraley, 74, of Mount Airy, a resident of Citizens Nursing Home, Frederick, since 1996, died Tuesday, June 18, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

He was the husband of Myrtle Lorraine Fraley. They were married May 24, 1947.

Born July 18, 1927, in Catoctin Furnace, he was a son of the late Henry Royston and Daisy C. Angell Fraley.

Mr. Fraley was a Methodist.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a cook/chef in Japan from June 1946 to June 1947.

Mr. Fraley was employed as a meat cutter and manager for area markets, including ACME Markets of Mount Airy and Damascus, Olney Foods Inc., and Sandy Springs Foods. He eventually retired in 1989 from the Food Rite in Mount Airy.

He was a member of the Mount Airy Seniors and the Mount Airy 55 Club.

Mr. Fraley enjoyed fishing, camping and boating, as well as going to flea markets and yard sales.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters, Lorraine Fraley of Mount Airy, Jennifer Wiles of Middletown, and Teresa Boyer and husband James of Frederick; three grandchildren, Samuel Wiles, Angela Boyer and Kevin Boyer; one brother, Morris Fraley Sr. of Thurmont; one sister, Frances Marshall of Baltimore; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Fraley was preceded in death by three brothers, James, Marlin and Roland Fraley; and one sister, Gloria Youngsworth.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 21, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mount Airy, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 22.

Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.

Memorial contributions may be made to Citizens Nursing Home, 1900 Rosemont Ave., Frederick, Md. 21702, Attn.: Diabetic Care.
