Mrs. Lucille Knight
Dated: Thursday, June 20, 2002.
Mrs. Lucille Moffatt Knight, 81, of Damascus, died Wednesday, June 19, at Lorien Nursing Home, Mount Airy.

She was the wife of the late Gilbert Shrewsbury and Norris Knight.

Born in West Union, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Lawrence and Zella Knight Moffatt.

Surviving are one son, David Shrewsbury and wife Tina of Damascus; two grandsons, Jonathan and Christopher Shrewsbury of Damascus; three brothers, Julius, John and Jackson Moffatt; and two sisters, Lillian Griffith and Virginia Robbins.

Mrs. Knight was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Joseph Moffatt.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. Saturday, June 22, until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. at Olin L. Molesworth Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus.

Interment will be private in Damascus Methodist cemetery, Damascus.

Mr. Kenneth Wilt
Dated: Thursday, June 20, 2002.
Mr. Kenneth Lee Wilt, 76, of 862 Tuscawilla Hills, Charles Town, W.Va., died Tuesday, June 18, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.

He was the husband of Shirley A. Wilt.

Born April 18, 1926, in Millville, W.Va., he was a son of the late Charles W. and Nettie Oden Wilt.

Mr. Wilt was former owner and operator of Wilt's Pure Oil at Charles Town, and retired from Advanced Security in Ranson, W.Va.

He was a Protestant.

Mr. Wilt was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, Dan Dopson and wife Jennifer of Hagerstown, Steve Dopson and wife Julie of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Mike Dopson and wife Kathy of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; two sisters, Doris Gay of Martinsburg, and Joann Shaff of Gapland; two brothers, Floyd Wilt of Shenandoah Junction, W.Va., and Matthew Wilt of Harpers Ferry; and seven grandchildren, Sarah, Tyler, Drew, Dylan, Hannah, Aaron and Deanna Dopson.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 20, at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, Harpers Ferry, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 21. The Rev. Harold McClay and Douglas Fraim will officiate.

Interment will be in Fairview Lutheran cemetery, Bolivar, W.Va.

Memorial contributions may be made to Friendship Fire Company, P.O. Box 126, Harpers Ferry, W.Va. 25425.

Mr. J. William Erwin
Dated: Thursday, June 20, 2002.
Mr. J. William Erwin, 89, of Fayetteville, Pa., formerly of Frederick, died Wednesday, June 19, at Laurel Run Nursing Home, Fayetteville.

He was the husband of Ruth Shacklett Erwin, his wife of 64 years.

Born Jan. 5, 1913, in Washington, he was the son of the late Walter S. and Elsie George Erwin.

He was an accountant for Fischer-Lang and Company, a janitorial supply company in Frederick.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He and his wife were members of the Gettysburg (Pa.) Seventh-day Adventist Church and prior to moving to Pennsylvania, were long-time members of the Catoctin View Seventh-day Adventist Church in Thurmont.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Sandra Lee Carr of Kansas; two grandchildren, Kari Beth Dirks and Lacey Erin Dirks; and one great-grandchild, Kayla Dirks.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Alice G. Erwin.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, June 21, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, where funeral services will begin at 2 p.m.

Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.

Mr. Eric Pickert
Dated: Friday, December 6, 2002.
Mr. Eric Dagan Pickert, 23, of 9011 Old Kiln Road, Emmitsburg, died suddenly Thursday, Dec. 5.

Born Oct. 16, 1979, in Baltimore, he was a son of Dr. Steven and Dolores Pickert of Emmitsburg.

He was a lifetime resident of the Thurmont and Emmitsburg areas.

Mr. Pickert was a student at Gettysburg College, Gettysburg, Pa., and was a member of the Washington Figure Skating Club.

Surviving in addition to his parents are one brother, Aaron Pickert, at home; his uncle and godfather, Thomas Trojecki and wife Cheryl; his aunt and godmother, Susan Donahue and husband Charles; and four cousins, Chad, Alanna, Cristin and Brent Donahue.

Mr. Pickert will also be remembered by his significant other, Amanda Cardillo of Newark, Del.

There will be no calling at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Rabbi Morris A. Kosman, of the Beth Shalom Congregation, Frederick, will officiate.

Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Memorials and Tributes, P.0. Box 5216, Glen Allen, Va. 23058.

Mr. Spencer Lawson
Dated: Saturday, June 1, 2002.
Mr. Spencer Everett "Pete" Lawson, 76, of Rockville, died Friday, May 24, at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, Rockville.

He was the husband of Violet Andrews Lawson, his wife of 55 years.

Born Aug. 11, 1925, in Hyattstown, he was a son of the late Spencer and Virginia Murphy Lawson.

Mr. Lawson grew up in the Monrovia area until his family moved to the Washington area and then to Silver Spring.

He served as a signalman in World War II on the Landing Ship Transport-787. His ship participated in the capture and occupation of Iwo Jima in February 1945, and the occupation of Okinawa-Gunto from April to June 1945. His ship also received two Battle Stars for service in World War II.

Mr. Lawson was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was a superintendent for H. Manny Holtz Construction Company and later became vice president of engineering for Commercial Modular Systems Inc. of Hagerstown, until he retired.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three children, Sharon Forbes and husband Bill of Rockville, Spencer E. Lawson II and wife Patsy of Dunkirk, and Patricia Tetlow and husband Jimmy of Rockville; one brother, Jack Lawson and wife Connie of Silver Spring; seven grandchildren, Julie Jacobs and husband Dennis of Brunswick, John Dronenburg and wife Angie of Dunkirk, Rebecca Holmes and husband Curtis of Hagerstown, James and Charlotte Tetlow, both of Rockville, and Spencer E. Lawson III and Debbie Lawson, both of Dunkirk; one great-granddaughter, Patricia Holmes of Hagerstown.

Mr. Lawson was preceded in death by three sisters, Dora Fairbanks, Thelma Lawson and Beverly Phillips.

There will be no public visitation or services.

Mr. James Dwiggins Jr.
Dated: Saturday, June 1, 2002.
Mr. James H. "Jay" Dwiggins Jr., 64, of Rockville, died Thursday, May 30, at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, Rockville.

He was the husband of Gladys M. Dwiggins.

Born Oct., 5, 1937, in Washington, he was a son of the late James H. Sr. and Jessie Mae Campbell Dwiggins.

Mr. Dwiggins was the owner/operator of Jay Dwiggins Trucking in Rockville.

He was a member of Viers Mill Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two children, Terry Lynn Dwiggins of Rockville, and Tina L. Dwiggins of Gaithersburg; two grandchildren, Roger Mayo and Rusty Lockwood, both of Gaithersburg; and two brothers, William D. Dwiggins of Chestertown, and Donald Dwiggins of Orlando, Fla.

Mr. Dwiggins was preceded in death by his stepmother, Margaret Dwiggins.

Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 3, at DeVol Funeral Home, 10 E. Deer Park Drive, Gaithersburg, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 4.

Interment will be private.

Mrs. Mildred Westurn
Dated: Saturday, June 1, 2002.
Mrs. Mildred Geraldine Harne "Millie" Westurn, 80, of 1100 W. Washington St., Hagerstown, died Friday, May 31, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, J. Guy Harne, and by her second husband, Howard Westurn.

Born June 20, 1921, in Montgomery Township, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Hubert and Martha Philhour Jones.

Mrs. Westurn was employed with Heinz Company in Chambersburg, Pa., and retired from National Fruit in Martinsburg, W.Va.

After her retirement, she was a home health care provider for 15 years. She was also an Avon representative for 20 years.

Mrs. Westurn was a member of Covenant Life Church/Millers Tabernacle, Hagerstown. She was active in senior citizens in Downsville. She was a member of AARP. She was one of the first members of Miller's Tabernacle. She taught nursery and Middlers Sunday school classes for 60 years. She was active in the music department at her church for 55 years. She sang with her husband in a music ministry until his death in 1976. She was also involved in nursing home visitation.

Surviving are three daughters, Phyllis Beckley of Hagerstown, Guylene A. Smetzer, and Annette G. Cooper, both of Smithsburg; one son, Buddy Harne of Hagerstown; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Westurn was preceded in death by two sisters, Beulah Miller and Josie Snyder.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 2, at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 3, at Covenant Lite Church, 100 N. Monte Valla Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Walter Hock officiating.

Interment will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.

Mr. Roger Thompson
Dated: Thursday, May 23, 2002.
Mr. Roger Eugene Thompson, 68, of 337 S. Market St., Frederick, died Sunday, May 19, at Frederick Memorial Hospital after a short illness.

He was the husband of Dorothy R. Thompson.

Born July 5, 1933, in Frederick, he was a son of the late William A. and Blanche Thompson.

Mr. Thompson worked as a laborer in construction for 45 years, and served in the U.S. Army.

Surviving in addition to his wife are one sister, Helen Foreman of Clarksburg; two sisters-in-law, Trudy Hurd and Marzine Heard; four brothers-in-law, Maynard Hurd Jr., Ulysses G. Heard, Daniel Carroll and Clarence Dickerson; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Thompson will also be remembered by his goddaughter, Sharon R. Jackson of Frederick.

Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by two brothers, James H. Thompson and Charles E. Thompson; three sisters, Susie Carroll, Blanche Hammond and Rose Dickerson; two brothers-in-law, Thomas Foreman and William Hammond; three nephews, Joseph Carroll, Mark Barnes and Jeffery Hammond; two nieces, Denise Foreman and Roseanne Reese; three uncles, Roger Fredericks, Wallace Fredericks and Herbert Fredericks; and four aunts, Lucille Foreman, Rosie Cole, Pearline Bowie and Virgie Hackey.

Friends may call from 1 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 24, at Gary L. Rollins Funeral Home, 110 W. South St., Frederick.

Wake services will be held from 11 a.m. Saturday, May 25, until the time of funeral services at noon Saturday, at Thomas Tabernacle Church, South Market Street, Frederick. The Rev. Roger Rollins will officiate.

Mrs. Annie Cantler
Dated: Thursday, May 23, 2002.
Mrs. Annie Elizabeth Cantler, 85, of 1900 Rosemont Ave., Frederick, formerly of Poolesville, died Wednesday, May 22, at Citizen's Nursing Home, Frederick.

She was the wife of Delmore Charles Cantler, who died in 1972.

Born Aug. 2, 1916, in Bluefield, Va., she was a daughter of the late Joseph Meek and Emma Jane Hoback Thompson.

Mrs. Cantler was formerly employed at Matthew's Nursing Home, Poolesville.

Surviving are three daughters, Marline A. Friend of Keedysville, Omie Johnson of Libertytown, and JoAnne V. Smith of Frederick; four sons, Benjamin Cantler of Damascus, Joseph Cantler of Keedysville, Rodney Cantler of Hagerstown, and Russell Cantler of Boonsboro; two sisters, Ola Mae Myers and Mary Ann Mann, both of Frederick; 25 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Cantler was preceded in death by one daughter, Barbara Burdette; two sons, Howard C. Cantler and Bill Cantler; four sisters, Bonnie Dunavent, Margaret Barben, Dorothy Offutt and Thelma Sichert; two brothers, Joe Thompson and Clay Thompson; and one granddaughter.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 23, at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 24, at the funeral home. The Rev. J. Mark Curran will officiate.

Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association of Western Maryland, 5 Public Square, Suite 307, Hagerstown, Md. 21740.
