Infant Riley Ann Dennis

Infant Riley Ann Dennis, 13 days old, died Wednesday, May 22, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Born May 9, 2002, in Frederick, she was the infant daughter of Shannon Tregoning and Matthew Dennis of Middletown.

Surviving in addition to her parents, are maternal grandparents, Charles and Karen Watson of Myersville; paternal grandparents, Bill and Kathleen Dennis of Middletown; maternal great-grandparents, Charles and Carol K. Watson, and Rodman P. and Carol S. Roberts; paternal great-grandmother, Lillian Strouse; maternal great-great grandmother, Easter Kettels; uncles, Wyatt Watson and Josh Tregoning; aunt, Tracey Dennis; and cousin, Chayce M. Dennis.

She was preceded in death by paternal great-grandfather, Homer Strouse.

Services and interment will be private.

Arrangements by Stauffer Funeral Home, Frederick.

Mr. R. Dennis Homberg
Dated: Monday, June 10, 2002.
Mr. R. Dennis Homberg, 62, of 2595 Bear Den Road, Frederick, died Friday, June 7, at his home.

He was the husband of Willette Ann Price Homberg, his wife of 18 years.

Born Aug. 31, 1939, in Baltimore, he was a son of the late Henri I. and Mary K. Quirk Homberg.

Mr. Homberg was a 1962 graduate of Loyola College, Baltimore.

From 1962 to 1964, he served with the U.S. Army as a first lieutenant, armor; and from 1964 to 1972 he was a captain with the Maryland National Guard.

Mr. Homberg was employed with Potomac Valley Bank, a Mercantile affiliate, in 1972, and from 1974 until 1994, served as bank president. He served as vice chairman of the bank from 1994 to 1995.

He was affiliated with the Montgomery County Bankers Association and served as association president for one year beginning in September 1979.

Mr. Homberg enjoyed model railroading and studying military history.

Surviving in addition to his wife are five children, Donna H. Kirby and husband Kevin of Damascus, Michael Dennis Homberg and wife Susan of Elkridge, Ann Marie Homberg and husband Benjamin Pribula of Lutherville, David Michael O'Bryan and wife Donna Buss of Brookeville, and Donna O'Bryan-Schutz and husband Todd of Frederick; and six grandchildren, Megan, Paige, Kara, Colleen, Kaylie and Jessica.

Mr. Homberg will also be remembered by his friends Richard Hill and Barbara Miller, and Hospice nurse, Jim Dent.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, June 10, at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick.

Services and entombment will be private and at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, Md. 21702.

Mrs. Margaret Funk
Dated: Monday, June 10, 2002.
Mrs. Margaret "Jenice" Funk, 69, of Walkersville, died Saturday, June 8, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

She was the wife of Alvin R. Funk.

Born Sept. 9, 1932, in Hancock County, Tenn., she was a daughter of the late Roy and Martha Bowen Sexton.

Mrs. Funk was an avid bowler and loved to garden.

Surviving in addition to her husband are one daughter, Bonnie De Prenda and husband Steven of Clarksburg; three grandsons, Christopher Daryn, Daryl Salvatore and Jonathan Paul De Prenda; and four sisters, Juanita Weiger, Jimmie Bussard, Norma Jean Trammel and Mickey Edge.

Mrs. Funk was preceded in death by a brother, Glen Sexton; and a sister, Edith Lewis.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, June 10, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. Funeral services will be held there at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 11. The Rev. Donald Hammond will officiate.

Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.

Mrs. M. Pauline Thomas
Dated: Monday, June 10, 2002.
Mrs. M. Pauline Valentine Thomas, 88, a resident of Fahrney-Keedy Nursing Home, Boonsboro, formerly of Ringgold, died Saturday, June 8, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.

She was the wife of Walter R. Thomas. They were married April 12, 1933, in Frederick County.

Born June 13, 1913, near Ringgold, she was a daughter of the late John J. and Cora Mae Mentzer Valentine.

Mrs. Thomas lived most of her life on the family farm in the Ringgold area. She was a high school graduate.

Following her marriage, she and her husband lived in Walkersville for a short time before returning to the family farm in Ringgold. They moved to Fahrney-Keedy Village, in Boonsboro, in 1994. She entered the nursing home in October 2001.

Mrs. Thomas and her husband owned and operated the fam-ily farm until retiring in 1994.

She was a member of Waynesboro Church of the Brethren, Waynesboro, Pa.

Surviving in addition to her husband are one son, Harold E. Thomas of Hagerstown; one granddaughter; one great-granddaughter; two stepgreat-granddaughters; one brother, John K. Valentine of Waynesboro; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine L. Valentine and Edna Stockslager.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, in the chapel of Fahrney-Keedy Nursing Home, 8507 Mapleville Road, Boonsboro, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the services. The Revs. Louis Emerick, Prudence B. Yelinek and James E. Lucas will officiate.

Interment will be in Green Hill cemetery, Waynesboro.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fahrney-Keedy Home, 8507 Mapleville Road, Boonsboro, Md. 21723.

Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Richard Hamrick
Dated: Tuesday, June 11, 2002.
Mr. Richard D. Hamrick, 66, of Frederick, died Sunday, June 9, at his home.

He was the husband of Barbara Fogle Hamrick.

Born March 14, 1936, in Frederick, he was the son of the late Theodore D. and Frances L. Stotman Hamrick.

Mr. Hamrick was a member of Frederick Church of the Brethren and a retired life member of United Steam Fire Engine Co.

He was employed as a truck driver for Richard F. Kline for over seven years, and was a driver for Ewing Oil, Kelley Pie Co. for four years, and had worked at Mount Olivet cemetery for four years. He was also in National Guard Co. B. for 11 years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Johnia L. Hamrick of Frederick, Tina D. Hewett and husband Allen of Keedysville, Dawn L. King and husband Curtis Franklin of Myersville, Charles A. Easterday Jr. and wife Bonnie of Frederick, and Vicki L. Lydard and husband Ronald Sr. of Frederick; eight grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Frances Brunner of Frederick.

He will also be remembered by Gary Butts.

He was preceded in death by one brother Jerry W. Hamrick.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, where a memorial service will be held by United Steam Fire Engine Co. at 8 p.m. with the Rev. John Bromhal officiating.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 12, at the funeral home with the Rev. James Flora officiating.

Interment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Frederick County, 516 Trail Ave., Frederick, Md. 21701; or to United Steam Fire Engine Co., 79 South Market St., Frederick, Md. 21701.

Mr. Agop Kaiktsian
Dated: Tuesday, June 11, 2002.
Mr. Agop "Jack" Kaiktsian, 79, of Middletown, died Sunday, June 9, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

He was the husband of Ursula Regina Kaiktsian.

Born May 8, 1923, in Thessaloniki, Greece, he was the son of the late Ohanes and Araxi Kaiktsian.

He immigrated to the United States in 1951.

Prior to retirement he worked for 23 years as manager of the Woodmont Country Club in Rockville. After he retired, he became a full-time artist and participated in numerous exhibits in the Frederick, Hagerstown and Washington areas.

He was a member of the Artist's Gallery, Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center and Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown, where he currently has a sculpture on display as well as an additional sculpture placed in the museums permanent collection.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, David Kaiktsian and wife Heidi of Virginia Beach, Va., James Kaiktsian and wife Kimberly of Carroll Valley, Pa., Michele Fritz and husband Robert of Walkersville, and Leanne McKenzie and husband Joseph of Frederick; nine grandchildren; one brother, Kaloust Kaiktsian of Yerevan, Armenia; and one niece and nephew.

Funeral services will be held at noon Tuesday, June 11, in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 636 W. Lexington St., Baltimore, Md. 21201.

Mrs. Margaret Layton
Dated: Tuesday, June 11, 2002.
Mrs. Margaret L. Layton, 83, of Westminster, died Thursday, June 6, at the home of her nephew, Weldon W. Will, after an illness of several months.

She was the wife of the late Herbert W. Layton. They were married in 1938.

Born in Winfield, she was a daughter of the late Frederick L. and Lottie Mae Knauff Will. After early deaths of both parents, she was raised by her grandmother, Katie Linton Knauff Gist.

Mrs. Layton graduated from Sykesville High School in 1936 and went to work at Springfield Hospital, where she became a licensed practical nurse in 1938.

Around 1945, the family moved to Damascus. In 1947, she went to work for the federal government at the National Institutes of Health at the National Cancer Institute Information Office. She worked in that office for the next 37 years and was responsible for a number of programs.

In 1968, they moved from Damascus to Bethesda. Her husband died the next year. She remained in Bethesda and continued working, retiring in 1984.

She enjoyed traveling and other activities in Bethesda before becoming a resident of Carroll Lutheran Village, Westminster, in 1992.

She is survived by one brother, Frederick W. Will of Eldersburg; one sister, Virginia Brown of Westminster; three great-nieces and one great-nephew.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 10, at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home, 1212 West Old Liberty Road, Winfield, with the Rev. Jimmie Schwartz, chaplain of Carroll Lutheran Village, officiating.

Interment was in Lake View Memorial Park, Sykesville.

Mrs. Bernice Mills
Dated: Tuesday, June 11, 2002.
Mrs. Bernice King Mills, 82, of Rockville, died Sunday, June 9, at her home.

She was the wife of Raymond R. Mills.

She was born on Aug. 17, 1919, in Clarksburg.

She attended Richard Montgomery High School.

She was a housewife.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, Gordon R. Mills and wife Joan, Harold L. Mills, and Kenneth R. Mills and wife Freida; two sisters, Mildred Burdette and Doris Jane Mills; two brothers, Kenneth King and Robert King; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, at DeVol Funeral Home, 10 E. Deer Park Drive, Gaithersburg.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 13, at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Parklawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Montgomery Hospice or Travilah Baptist Church.
