Mr. David Board

Mr. David Blackley Board, 42, of Frederick, died Thursday, May 23, at George Washington University Hospital, Washington.

He was the husband of Natalie Lynn Board.

Born March 3, 1960, in Union City, Tenn., he was a son of Betty Blackley Board and the late James Board.

Mr. Board attended the University of Tennessee where he received his bachelor of science degree in anthropology.

He was employed as a museum specialist at the Museum of American History, Smithsonian Institution.

He was in the Naval Masonic Lodge F.A. and A.M. 4 of Washington. He was in both the Scottish and York Rite. He had received his Allied Masonic Degrees. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Research Society, the Grand College of Rights, and the Philalethes Society. He was in the Chapter of the Royal Arch Masons and the Royal and Select Masters. Mr. Board was also a member of the Knights Templar, other bodies of the York Rite, the Odd Fellows and the Knights of Pythias.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by one son, Nathan Louis Board; a brother, James Louis Board and wife Linda of Great Falls, Va.; a niece, Elizabeth Board; and a nephew, Stephen Board.

Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. A service by the Knights Templar will be offered at 7 p.m. A service will then be offered by the Masonic Lodge.

Graveside services and interment will be held in Tennessee at a later date.

Mr. Raymond Gregoire
Dated: Tuesday, May 28, 2002.
Mr. Raymond George Gregoire, 83, of Frederick, died Friday, May 3, at Bayfront Medical Center, St. Petersburg, Fla.

He was the husband of Joyce M. Gregoire, his wife of 57 years.

Born March 9, 1919, in Washburn, Wis., he was the son of the late John B. and Olga Soli Gregoire.

Mr. Gregoire was a World War II Army veteran and worked at Fort Detrick for 32 years.

He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Frederick.

He was a member of National Association of Retired Federal Employees Chapter 409, and American Association of Retired Persons Chapter 636.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Gary Gregoire and wife Sharon of Middletown; a daughter, Sherriann Bowman and husband David of New Market; three grandchildren; siblings, Dorothy Gurnoe and husband Michael, Lawrence Gregoire and wife BeDee, William Gregoire, Clarence Gregoire and wife Mary Lou, and John Gregoire, all of Ashland, Wis.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd Gregoire and wife Mary; and a sister, Shirley Kallauf and husband Daniel.

Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 2, at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, June 3, at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, East Second Street, Frederick. The Rev. Keith W. Boisvert will be the celebrant.

Inurnment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, Md. 21702.

Mrs.Rose Hammerbacher
Dated: Tuesday, May 28, 2002.
Mrs. Rose Ellen Hammerbacher, 99, a resident of the Citizens Nursing Home, Frederick, died Sunday, May 26, at the nursing home.

She was the wife of Michael Hilliard, who died in 1947.

Born July 27, 1902, in Baltimore, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Mary Reagan Hammerbacher.

She was a Catholic.

She is survived by her sister, Agnes Timms of Baltimore; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, including Mary Martin of New Market, and Catherine Ritterpusch of Baltimore.

Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, Frederick, is handling the arrangements.

There will be no calling at the funeral home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 1, at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, East Second Street, Frederick. The Rev. Wayne G. Funk will be the celebrant.

Inurnment will be at a later date and at the convenience of the family.

Mrs. Anna Schroeder
Dated: Tuesday, May 28, 2002.
Mrs. Anna Margaret Schroeder, 88, died Thursday, May 23, at Homewood at Crumland Farms, Frederick.

She was the wife of George T. Schroeder, who died in October 1998.

Born March 29, 1914, in Frederick, she was a daughter of the late Albert Franklin and Kathryn Rebecca Null Culler.

She was a 1932 graduate of Frederick High School.

Mrs. Schroeder was a lifelong member of Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ, Trinity Circle, the Altar Guild, and the church choir.

She also served as wedding coordinator for many years.

She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star of Frederick, and the Frederick Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She is survived by three daughters, Margaret JoAnne Schnauffer and husband Patrick of Medina, Wash., Kathryn Madora Shue and husband David of Vienna, Va., and Victoria Georgene Beasley and husband Anthony of Chesapeake, Va.; seven grandchildren, Patrick Schnauffer and wife Edith, Margaret Dinwidde and husband David, Elizabeth Schnauffer, Deanna Shue West, Ethan Shue and wife Christie, Kathleen Beasley Iverson and husband Jason, and Matthew Beasley; and five great-grandchildren, Patrick John Schnauffer, Caroline West, Seth and Dale Dinwidde, and Lauren Ivansen.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Harold Culler; and her sister, Helen Rebecca Pease.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until funeral services begin at noon Friday, May 31, at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. The Rev. Frederick A. Wenner, pastor of the Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ, will officiate.

Interment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Unit of Homewood at Crumland Farms, 7407 Willow Road, Frederick, Md. 21702.

Mrs. Geraldine Wiegand
Dated: Tuesday, May 28, 2002.
Mrs. Geraldine Wiegand, 84, of 11339 Liberty Road, Frederick, died Monday, May 27, at Heartfield Assisted Living of Frederick after an extended illness.

She was the wife of Clifford Hewett Wiegand, who died in 1998. She and her husband came to Frederick County in 1988.

Born April 15, 1918, in Middlesex County, N.J., she was a daughter of the late August and Louisa Gertrude Unkel Faulner.

Mrs. Wiegand was a member of Libertytown United Methodist Church.

She was a member of the Homemakers Club of Libertytown.

She was owner/operator of Quanite Consignment Shoppe in Whitehouse Station, N.J.

She enjoyed housekeeping, shopping and her roses.

She is survived by a daughter, Thelma W. Mills and husband Ronald, of the Libertytown area; a son, Wayne C. Wiegand and wife Leanna of Lovettsville, Va.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Edwin and August Anderson.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Mr. Benjamin Smith Jr.
Dated: Tuesday, May 28, 2002.
Mr. Benjamin H. Smith Jr., 77, of 8791 Inspiration Court, Walkersville, died Friday, May 24, at his home.

He was the husband of Jeanne U. Smith.

Mr. Smith was a civil cost estimator for Bechtel Corpn.

He was a World War II Army veteran of the European Theater.

He was a lifelong member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of several Masonic groups in Easton, Pa.

Mr. Smith was a former member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Easton, and a current member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Walkersville, where he served on the church council for many years and was an active committee member.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Craig A. Smith of Etters, Pa., and Brian Smith of Walkersville; one daughter, Karen M. Bradfield of West Chester, Pa.; one brother, James D. Smith of Raleigh, N.C.; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Walkersville, with the Rev. Mark Foucart officiating.

Inurnment will be at Northampton Memorial Shrine, Easton.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, Md. 21702.

Cremation arrangements are by Cremation Society of Pennsylvania.

Mrs. Mary Haines
Dated: Tuesday, May 28, 2002.
Mrs. Mary Louise Haines, 75, of 14550 Black Ankle Road, near Mount Airy, died Sunday, May 26, at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Mount Airy, after an extended illness.

She was the wife of Raymond James Haines, who died in 1983.

Born Jan. 24, 1927, in Frederick County, she was a daughter of the late Roger L. and Emma V. Stitely Boone.

Mrs. Haines was formerly employed by the canning factory in Frederick and then as a seamstress for 40 years with various sewing factories.

She loved gardening and raising all types of animals, including pigs, which were her main love.

She is survived by a daughter, Gloria Wagner and husband Paul, of the Mount Airy area; three grandchildren, Heather Wassell and husband Daryl and Paul Wagner Jr. and wife Melissa, all of Brunswick, and Dianna Smith and husband Kenny of Sharpsburg; five great-grandchildren, Shane and Seth Wagner, Andrew and Travis Darlington and Gabreyeil Wassell; 22 nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

She will also be remembered by caregivers, Janet Fitzwater and family; and good friends, Mark and Debbie Redmond.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Charles Boone; one sister, Frances Eyler; and friend, William Disney.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 11802 Liberty Road, Libertytown.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 30, at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick, with the Rev. Lynn Glassbrook, pastor of Clarksburg United Methodist Church, officiating.

Mr. Walter Brown
Dated: Tuesday, May 28, 2002.
Mr. Walter E. Brown, 69, of Foxville Road, Foxville, died Sunday, May 26, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.

Born July 15, 1932, in Lantz, he was the son of the late Clyde A. and Susie D. Willard Brown.

He graduated from Catoctin High School in 1950 and from Asbury College in Wilmore, Ky., in 1955.

He was employed by Fort Ritchie, and retired Aug. 31, 1988. He was the first data processor to be employed at Fort Ritchie and received a commander's award for civilian service.

He was an active member of Mount Bethel United Methodist Church, Foxville.

His hobby was making quilts.

He is survived by five sisters, Clara Ruth Hardman of Emmitsburg, Betty Wetzel of West Virginia, Dorothy Smith of Cascade, Imogene Smith of Sabillasville, and Miriam Brown of Foxville; four brothers, Frank Brown and Edwin Brown, both of Foxville, Cyrus Brown of Carroll Valley, Pa., and Daniel Brown of Smithsburg; five nieces; and eight nephews.

He will also be remembered by his friends, Terry Horst of Hagerstown, and Pauline Atwood and Levy Munoc, both of New Orleans, La.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, at Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, at Mount Bethel United Methodist Church, with the Rev. William C. Kercheval and the Rev. David H. Andrews officiating.

Interment will be in Mount Bethel cemetery.
