Mrs. Eleanor Wetzel
Dated: Wednesday, May 29, 2002.
Mrs. Eleanor Ruth Wetzel, 74, of Frederick, died Sunday, May 26, at Western Maryland Hospital Center, Hagerstown.

She was the wife of Carroll R. Wetzel, her husband of 39 years.

Born Sept. 30, 1927, in Hyattstown, she was a daughter of the late Eugene Sr. and Helen Colbert Carlisle.

Mrs. Wetzel worked her entire life as a seamstress, first with Sagner Clothing Factory and then with Claire Frock, from where she retired in 1985 after more than 30 years service.

She was a member of Frederick Presbyterian Church, the Frederick Patriotic Club and the American Association of Retired Persons.

Mrs. Wetzel was also a member of the Frederick AMVETS Auxiliary as well as a life member of the Independent Hose Co. Ladies Auxiliary.

She loved to bake and was known for her cookies and banana nut bread.

Surviving in addition to her husband are one daughter, Diane Keeney of Brunswick; one stepdaughter, Janet Collins and husband Robert Sr. of Virginia Beach, Va.; three stepsons, Richard Wetzel and wife Sandy of Point of Rocks, Allen Wetzel and wife Carolyn of Frederick, and Bruce Wetzel of Virginia Beach; three grandchildren, William Kenney III of Frederick, Travis Kenney and Danielle Shupe, both of Brunswick; eight stepgrandchildren, Robert Collins Jr. and wife Christine, Timothy Collins and wife Andrea, Anita Miller and husband Mark, Jason Wetzel, Kristian Wetzel, Jessica Wetzel, Shiela Wetzel and Ronny Lowe; five stepgreat-grandchildren; one brother, Eugene Carlisle Jr. and wife Marie of Frederick; one niece, Pamela Carlisle; and one nephew, Lee Carlisle and wife Victora.

Mrs. Wetzel will also be remembered by her daughter Diane's fiance, Jeff Quesenberry of Brunswick.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 30. Mrs. Wetzel's pastor, the Rev. Ginger Memmott, of Frederick Presbyterian Church, will officiate.

Interment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

Mr. Gerald Harne
Dated: Wednesday, May 29, 2002.
Mr. Gerald L. Harne, 73, of East Baltimore Street, Hagerstown, died Monday, May 27, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.

He was the husband of Garnetta L. Lewis Harne.

Born March 3, 1929, in Garfield, he was a son of the late Charles O. and Carrie Kuhn Harne.

Mr. Harne was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War.

He was employed with the Frederick County Board of Education for 10 years.

Mr. Harne was a member of Garfield United Methodist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are one son, Ricky G. Harne of Hagerstown; one sister, Olive Liniger of Shippensburg, Pa.; two brothers, Milton W. Harne of Wolfsville, and Basil E. Harne of Cavetown; and one grandson, Ryan Harne.

Mr. Harne was preceded in death by two sisters, Goldie Koontz and Mabel Grossnickle; and eight brothers, Austin Harne, Richard Harne, Jesse Harne, Leon Harne, Harold Harne, Ernest Harne, Floyd Harne and Homer Harne.

There will be no viewing. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, at Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 30, at Garfield United Methodist Church, with Pastors Randy Reid and Ron Ellis officiating.

Interment will be in Garfield United Methodist cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Garfield United Methodist Church, c/o John W. King, 12044 Pleasant Walk Road, Myersville, Md. 21773.

Mrs. Janice Johnson
Dated: Wednesday, May 29, 2002.
Mrs. Janice Renee Wolfe Johnson, 42, of Sharpsburg, died Saturday, May 25, after a battle with cancer.

She was the wife of Michael Johnson for 17 years.

Born July 25, 1959, in Frederick, the daughter of Arthur R. Wolfe Sr. of Jefferson, and Janet Anderson Rice of New Market.

She attended Brunswick High School, Class of 1977, and was raised in the Brunswick/Burkittsville area.

She was employed as secretary for Dan's Auto Body for many years. She worked at Bridge End Center in Lovettsville, Va., and Data Imaging in Hagerstown. The past four years she partnered with her husband to run their business, Michael's Carpet and Flooring.

Surviving in addition to her husband and parents are one brother, Arthur R. Wolfe Jr. and wife Tami of Tampa, Fla.; two sisters, Julie Wolfe Curtis and husband Bill of Mechanicsburg, Pa., and Lori Stromberg and husband Joseph of Fairfield, Pa.; three half sisters, Shin Wilson and husband Richard of Sharpsburg, Amanda Wolfe of Brunswick, and Rachel Wolfe of Brunswick; her grandfather, George W. Wolfe of Jefferson; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her grandmothers, Ruth V. Wolfe and Bessie Kidwell Anderson; and grandfather, Robert Lee Anderson Sr.

She will be remembered by Michelle, Cindy and Bobby.

There will be no viewing or funeral services.

The family will receive friends at a memorial service at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 1, at Burkittsville Ruritan Club, 500 E. Main St., Burkittsville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to her husband, Michael Johnson, 18443 Horseshoe Bend, Sharpsburg, Md. 21782.

Mr. Harold Beane
Dated: Wednesday, May 29, 2002.
Mr. Harold E. "Bamie" Beane, 91, of Rockville, died Tuesday, May 28, at Lorine Nursing Home, Mount Airy.

He was the husband of the late Martha K. Beane.

He was born in Rockville.

Mr. Beane had worked as an automobile salesman for Rockmont Chevrolet in Rockville.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Pacific theater during World War II.

Surviving are three children, Anne B. Slater of Frederick, Robert W. Beane of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., and Rebecca M. Beane of Manassas, Va.; and four grandchildren, Stephen, Stacy and Mark Slater, and Michael Beane.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 30, at Pumphrey's Colonial Funeral Home, 300 W. Montgomery Ave., Rockville, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 31.

Interment will be in Parklawn Memorial Park.

Mrs. Mary Boyce
Dated: Wednesday, May 29, 2002.
Mrs. Mary Lea Crogan Boyce, 78, of the 1400 block of Peartree Arch, Virginia Beach, Va., died Sunday, May 26, at Virginia Beach General Hospital.

Twice married , she was the wife of the late Howard G. Crogan and Ralph F. Boyce.

Mrs. Boyce was a native of West Virginia.

She had worked as an assembler-inspector at Watkins-Johnson in Gaithersburg from where she retired after 18 years of service.

Mrs. Boyce was a member of the ladies auxiliary of the Knights of Pythias and the Ladies of the Moose.

Surviving are three sons, Walter Crogan and wife Georgia of Virginia Beach, Howard Crogan and wife Janice of Adamstown, and Thomas Crogan and wife Karen of Frederick.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Sandra K. Morgan Frintz; one brother, Ronald Patterson of West Virginia; 13 grandchildren; and several stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 31, at Germantown Baptist Church, 17640 Riffle Ford Road, Germantown, with the Rev. Curry Mitchell officiating.

Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home Lynnhaven Chapel, Virginia Beach, is handling arrangements.

Mr. Louis Smith
Dated: Thursday, May 30, 2002.
Mr. Louis Edward Smith, 78, of 4631 Araby Church Road, Frederick, died Wednesday, May 29, at Washington Adventist Hospital, Takoma Park.

He was the husband of Julia J. Mackley Smith. They had been married 57 years.

Born July 19, 1923, in Mount Pleasant, he was a son of the late Grover C. Smith and Nellie Rippeon Smith Wachter.

Mr. Smith attended elementary school locally and Elm Street High School.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the 78th Lightning Division and the infantry, and participated in the European Theater. He received the Combat Infantry Badge, Purple Heart, Bronze Star and other World War II service medals.

Mr. Smith was associated with the Maryland National Guard, where he served as first sergeant, with a total of 30 years.

He was employed with Fort Detrick for many years in security and then on the Federal Protection Force of GSA until his retirement.

Mr. Smith was also District Court bailiff at the Frederick County Court House.

He was a member of Francis Scott Key American Legion Post 11, the 29th Infantry Association, AARP, and a life member of AMVETS Post 2, Frederick.

Mr. Smith was an avid Dale Earnhardt fan.

Surviving in addition to his wife are six children, Pamela S.S. Peacemaker and husband John of Middletown, Va., Frosty K. Smith and wife Sandra J., Mindy S. Frye and husband Raymond, Laurie A. Remsburg, Martha R. Hagerman and husband Bob, and Tim E. Smith, all of Frederick; eight grandchildren, Michael D. Bunn Jr., Melissa S. Baugher, Jennifer F. Shank, Jason K. Smith, Christina A. Littleton, Tammy S. Kefauver, Gary E. Remsburg Jr. and Mandy Kay Anderson; nine great-grandchildren, Alexis C., Michael R. and Blake E. Bunn, Tiffany A., Brooke B. and Taylor J. Shank, Colan K. and Michael Smith, and Ryan W. Cook; several nieces and nephews; and a granddaughter-in-law, Kathy J. Bunn.

Mr. Smith will also be remembered by his son Tim's friend, Deb Hildebrand of Frederick.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by one son, Dwight D. Smith; and one brother, Albert G. Smith.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, June 1, and Sunday, June 2, at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 3, at the funeral home, with Chaplain Tim May officiating.

Interment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Mrs. Iona Grossnickle
Dated: Thursday, May 30, 2002.
Mrs. Iona M. Grossnickle, 82, of Myersville, died Wednesday, May 29, at Fahrney-Keedy Home, Boonsboro.

She was the wife of Eldin G. Grossnickle.

Born April 2, 1920, in Middletown, she was a daughter of the late Leslie H. Sr., and Nellie Routzahn Long.

Mrs. Grossnickle was a member of Grossnickle Church of the Brethren. She was a homemaker and an avid gardener.

Surviving in addition to her husband are one son, Kenneth G. Grossnickle and wife Virginia L. of Middletown; three brothers, Jack Long of Keedysville, Leslie J. Long Jr. of Middletown, and James Long of Knoxville; two sisters, Viola Bussard of Frederick, and June Marsh of Middletown; three grandchildren, John K. Grossnickle and Le Ann M. Grossnickle, both of Middletown, and Christopher G. Grossnickle of Myersville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 31, at Ricketts Funeral Home, 504 Main St., Myersville.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 1, at Grossnickle Church of the Brethren, Wolfsville Road, Myersville. The Revs. Tim and Donna Ritchey Martin will officiate.

Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grossnickle Church of the Brethren cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 575, Myersville, Md. 21773; or to Alzheimer's Association, Western Maryland Chapter, 108 Byte Drive, Suite 103, Frederick, Md. 21702.

Mrs. Jane Kinsey
Dated: Thursday, May 30, 2002.
Mrs. Jane Elizabeth Kinsey, 94, of Gaithersburg, died Monday, May 27, at Wilson Health Care Center, Gaithersburg.

She was the wife of Edwin R. Kinsey Sr., who died in 1963.

Born Sept. 1, 1907, in Boyds, she was a daughter of the late Clarence Lee and Eva Dutrow Ayton.

Mrs. Kinsey was a lifelong resident of Gaithersburg. She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Pentalpha Chapter 38, Order of the Eastern Star, for almost 75 years.

Mrs. Kinsey was a lifelong member of Epworth United Methodist Church, Gaithersburg, where she was a former Sunday school teacher and was active in church activities.

She was an avid gardener.

Surviving is one son, Edwin Reese Kinsey Jr. and wife Marilyn Linhart Kinsey of Monrovia.

Mrs. Kinsey was preceded in death by one brother, Hershey Dutrow Ayton.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 8, at Guild Chapel Building 211, Asbury, 201 Russell Ave., Gaithersburg, where members of Order of the Eastern Star will hold services at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Benevolent Fund of Wilson Health Care Center, Asbury Methodist Village, 201 Russell Ave., Gaithersburg, Md. 20877.

Arrangements are by Muriel H. Barber Funeral Home, Laytonsville.
