Mrs. Lucy Callaway

Mrs. Lucy Elizabeth Callaway, 82, of Silver Spring, died Saturday, May 25, at College View Center, Frederick.

She was the wife of the late R. Max Callaway.

Born June 3, 1919, in Frederick, she was a daughter of the late William David and Margaret Ellen Miller.

Surviving are three sisters, Mary C. Skumurski of Schnectady, N.Y., Helen M. Argo of Rockville, and Rose M. Smith of Sugarland, Texas; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, and great-great-nieces and -nephews.

Mrs. Callaway was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters, Frank Thomas Miller, Margaret Ellen Miller, George W. Miller, William D. Miller Jr., Lewis C. Miller and Nettie L. Higdon.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 31, at Pumphrey's Funeral Home, 300 W. Montgomery Ave., Rockville.

Inurnment at Gate of Heaven cemetery, Silver Spring, will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, Va. 23058; or Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind, 6200 Baltimore Ave., Suite 100, Riverdale, Md. 20737.

Mr. Roy Peters
Dated: Friday, May 31, 2002.
Mr. Roy Otha Peters, 92, of 11350 Liberty Road, near Libertytown, died Thursday, May 30, at Glade Valley Nursing and Rehabilitative Center, Walkersville, after a long illness.

He was the husband of Katy H. Peters, his wife of 56 years.

Born Oct. 25, 1909, in Franklin County, Va., he was a son of the late E.D. and Georgienne James Peters.

Mr. Peters was a member of Union Bridge Church of the Brethren.

He was a retired dairy farmer, farming in the Johnsville area for over 50 years. He retired in 1973 when he moved to the Libertytown area.

Mr. Peters was an avid horse racing fan. He enjoyed playing cards, and spending time with his granddaughter and great-grandsons.

Surviving in addition to his wife are one foster daughter, Virginia May Garber of the Libertytown area; one foster son, Frank E. Garber and wife Barbara of Woodsboro; one granddaughter, Rebecca Garber and husband Mark Jones of the Libertytown area; two great-grandsons, Evan and Luke Jones; and numerous cousins in Virginia and Ohio.

Mr. Peters will also be remembered by his friends, Linda and Ed Shifflett and Carl Garver.

Mr. Peters was preceded in death by one sister, Helen McDaniel; and one granddaughter, Julie Garber Wemple.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 2, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 11802 Liberty Road, Libertytown, where funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 3. The Rev. Dorothy Lundgren, pastor of Chapel Lutheran Church, near Libertytown, and the Rev. James Benedict, pastor of Union Bridge Church of the Brethren, will officiate.

Interment will be in Chapel cemetery, near Libertytown.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to Trinity School of Frederick, P.O. Box 549, Frederick Md. 21701.

Ms. Nancy Heinberg
Dated: Friday, May 31, 2002.
Ms. Nancy Heinberg, 59, of Libertytown, died Saturday, May 25, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Born May 26, 1942, in Columbia, Mo., she was a daughter of the late John Gilbert and Pauline E. Dorsey Heinberg.

At the time of her death, Ms. Heinberg was employed as a social worker with Springfield Hospital Center, Sykesville, where she had worked since 1989.

She was a member of the National Association of Social Workers, and All Saints Episcopal Church, Frederick.

Surviving are one son, Jason Bruce Heinberg of Fairfax; one brother, John D. Heinberg and wife Beverly Brockas of McLean, Va.; one niece, Susan Heinberg Oleinik and husband Andrei of Paris, France; and one nephew, Jason Bruce Heinberg of Fairfax.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 6, at All Saints Episcopal Church, West Church Street, Frederick.

Inurnment will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to J.G. Heinberg Award Fund, University of Missouri-Columbia, 306 Reynolds Alumni Center, Columbia, Mo. 65211.

Infant Gabriela Navarro
Dated: Friday, May 31, 2002.
Infant Gabriela Marcela Navarro, of 7 Spruce St., Mont Alto, Pa., died Wednesday, May 29, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.

Born May 29, 2002, in Hagerstown, she was a daughter of Jose A. Navarro and Margaret A. Prichard of Mont Alto.

Surviving in addition to her parents are one brother, Allan S. Prichard at home; maternal grandfather, Donald Prichard of Mont Alto; maternal grandmother, Shirley Prichard of Mont Alto; maternal great-grandmother, Ruth Hansberger of Frederick; maternal stepgreat-grandmother, Margaret Slick of Monrovia; maternal great-great-grandmother, Birdie Slick of Hagerstown; paternal grandfather, Jose Navarro of El Salvador; paternal grandmother, Maria Navarro of El Salvador; and paternal great-grandmother, Frances Megilla of California.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 1, at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, with the Rev. Cherie Baker officiating.

Interment will be in True Gospel cemetery, Lisbon.

Mr. Edward Stull

Mr. Edward William Stull, 84, of Towson, died Thursday, May 30, at St. Joseph Medical Center, Towson.

He was husband of the late Marion T. Parks Stull.

He was born Jan. 4, 1918, and raised in Frederick. He was a son of the late Parker D. and Mattie E. Stull, who owned a general store in Charlesville.

Surviving are one son, Edward D. Stull Sr. of Orlando, Fla.; one daughter, Nora L. Hoffert of Parkville; six grandchildren, Edward D. Stull Jr., John F. Hoffert Jr., Tamara A. Marino, Cynthia L. Hoffert, Carrie A. Rey and Melinda L. Hoffert; and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Stull will also be remembered by his friend, Leah A. Davis.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 31, at Evans Funeral Home, 8800 Harford Road, Parkville, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 1.

Interment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

Mrs. Margie Patterson

Mrs. Margie Grace Patterson, 95, formerly of 3939 Roland Ave., Baltimore, died Thursday, May 30, at Esther's Place, Baltimore.

She was the wife of Ernest Raymond Patterson, who died Oct. 14, 1960.

Born Oct. 10, 1906, in Lantz, she was a daughter of the late William Albert and Delta Grace Fox Smith.

Mrs. Patterson had been employed at the Hecht Company in Baltimore.

Surviving are six sisters, Cora Kuhn of Smithsburg, Edna Pittinger of Thurmont, Hazel Smith of Ashville, N.C., Beaulah Rice of Braddock Heights, Nancy Stottlemyer of Lantz, and Betty Burrier of Rocky Ridge; two brothers, Calvin Smith of Lantz, and John Smith of Louisiana; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 2, at Robert E. Dailey & Son Funeral Home, 615 E. Main St., Thurmont.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 24, at the funeral home, with the Rev. James Coblentz, of Pioneer Baptist Church, officiating.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 3, at Robert E. Dailey & Son Funeral Home, 615 E. Main St., Thurmont.

Interment will be in Bethel cemetery, Cascade.

Ms. Anna Green
Dated: Friday, May 31, 2002.
Ms. Anna Mae Viola Green, 74, of Phoenix, Ariz., died Friday, May 10, in Arizona.

She was born Jan. 29, 1928, in Frederick.

Ms. Green was a retired psychiatric nurse for Arizona State Hospital.

Surviving are one daughter, Jennifer Green of Phoenix; one son, Peter Parker of Phoenix; two sisters, Hilda A. Diggs and Freda B. Parker; two grandchildren, Amani Green and Garae Parker; and one great-grandchild, Karel Parker.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8, at Asbury United Methodist Church, Frederick.

Memorial contributions may be made to Susan B. Koman Breast Cancer Foundation, c/o American Cancer Society, 2929, E. Thomas Road, Phoenix, Ariz. 85016.

Arrangements are by Maryvale Mortuary, Phoenix.

Mrs. June Shafer
Dated: Saturday, June 1, 2002.
Mrs. June Thomas Shafer, 73, of 204 W. Main St., Middletown, died Thursday, May 30, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

She was the wife of Charles J. Shafer who died Jan. 18, 2000.

Born June 6, 1928, in Middletown, she was a daughter of the late Dale Edgar and Velma Opal Crone Thomas.

Mrs. Shafer was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Middletown, and was employed by the Frederick County Board of Education in the cafeteria at Middletown Elementary School until her retirement.

Surviving are one son, Joe Shafer and wife Dianne of Middletown; one daughter, Dixie Lee Eichelberger of Middletown; two grandchildren, Timothy Shafer and Stephanie Grossman; and two half-brothers, James Thomas of Walkersville, and Michael Thomas of Middletown.

Mrs. Shafer was preceded in death by son-in-law, Donald Lee Eichelberger.

Friends may call anytime Monday, June 3, at Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, at Zion Lutheran Church, Middletown, where a viewing will be held one hour prior to the services. Mrs. Shafer's pastor, the Rev. Donald L. Turley, will officiate.

Interment will be in the Lutheran cemetery, Middletown.

Memorial contributions may be made to the building fund of Zion Lutheran Church, 107 W. Main St., Middletown, Md. 21769.

Mr. John Hawes Sr.
Dated: Saturday, June 1, 2002.
Mr. John Lester Hawes Sr., 77, of Brunswick, died Thursday, May 30, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Born March 13, 1925, near Brunswick, he was a son of the late Jesse Grant Hawes and Virginia Lenora Nuse.

Mr. Hawes was raised at the Buckeystown Boys' School until age 17.

He joined the Merchant Marines, and served as an oilman aboard Liberty ships carrying supplies vital to the Allied war effort during World War II.

After his service in the Merchant Marines, he returned to Brunswick to begin his long career at Alpha Cement Co. and raise a family.

Surviving are three children, Kenneth Martin Hawes and wife Cynthia, and Patricia Mumaw and husband Donald, all of Charles Town, W.Va., and Deborah L. Free and husband Charles of Brunswick; three grandchildren, Michael Hawes of Charles Town, and (twins) Joanne Howe of Gettysburg, Pa., and Jeanette Caniford of Hagerstown; and one great-grandchild.

Mr. Hawes will also be remembered by his former wife, Patsy Dellinger of Brunswick.

Mr. Hawes was preceded in death by his second wife, Dorothy Hawes; and one son, John L. Hawes Jr.

Services will be private.

Arrangements are by Resthaven Funeral Services, Frederick.

Mrs. Marian Little
Dated: Saturday, June 1, 2002.
Mrs. Marian Maxine Little, 69, of Feeser Road, Taneytown, died Thursday, May 30, at her home.

She was the wife of Edward R. Little, her husband of 49 years.

Born Oct. 28, 1932, in Keyser, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late William and Violet Baker Miller.

Mrs. Little was a 1952 graduate of Taneytown High School.

She was a switchboard operator and network administrations clerk with C&P Telephone Co., retiring June 5, 1983, with 30 years of service. She was a member of C&P Telephone Pioneers.

Mrs. Little was a member of Messiah United Methodist Church, Taneytown, where she taught Sunday school for several years.

Surviving in addition to her husband are one son, Wayne G. Little and wife Brenda of Westminster; three grandchildren, Jenna and Nolan Little, both of Westminster, and Nicole Hill of Gettysburg, Pa.; and two brothers, William Miller and wife Till, and David Miller and wife Louise, all of Taneytown.

Mrs. Little was preceded in death by one sister, Pauline Miller; and two brothers, Donald B. and Robert M. Miller.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 2, at Skiles Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 3, at the funeral home, with Deacon Charles E. Barnhart Jr., of Keysville Lutheran Church, officiating.

Interment will be in Keysville Union cemetery, Keymar.
