Mr. Leon Grant Jr.

Mr. Leon Bernell Grant Jr., 49, of Damascus, died Monday, May 27, at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, Rockville.

He was the husband of Kathleen Flanagan Grant.

Born March 25, 1953, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was a son of the late Leon Sr. and Ruby Smith Grant.

Mr. Grant was a communications engineer and had worked for CDSI, now ACS, in Rockville; Department of Energy, Germantown; and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in Washington.

Surviving in addition to his wife are four sons, Craig, Duane, Leon B. III and Tauren W. Grant; nine grandchildren; six brothers and sisters, Brenda Bell and husband Ronnie, Dell Grant, Dayfan Grand and wife Sherrell, Karen Grant, Darrelle Grant and Syeda Grant; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 2, at Olin L. Molesworth Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 3.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Damascus Volunteer Fire Department, 26334 Ridge Road, Damascus, Md. 20872.

Mrs. Sandra Wivell
Dated: Saturday, June 1, 2002.
Mrs. Sandra "Sandy" Jean Sayler Wivell, 51, of Taneytown, died Thursday, May 30, at her home.

She was the wife of Sam Wivell, her husband of 32 years.

Born Nov. 5, 1950, in Gettysburg, Pa., she was a daughter of Margaret Clem Sayler of Thurmont, and the late Harry C. Sayler.

Mrs. Wivell attended Graceham Moravian Church, Thurmont.

She was a 1968 graduate of Emmitsburg High School, and was raised in Rocky Ridge.

She was previously employed with Fredericktown Bank & Trust Co., and Taneytown Bank & Trust. Later she stayed at home raising her family and was secretary for her husband's business, Samuel K. Wivell Builders.

Mrs. Wivell's hobbies included sewing, craft projects and gardening.

Surviving in addition to her husband and mother are one daughter, Stephanie Harrington and husband Paul of Emmitsburg; one son, Shane Wivell at home; two sisters, Frances Angleberger of Thurmont, and Louis Layman and husband Robert of Rocky Ridge; two nieces, Brenda Layman, and Karen S. McAfee and husband Jeff; one nephew, Bryon Layman; great-niece and great-nephew, Ashley and Justin McAfee; five sisters-in-law; and 11 brothers-in-law.

Mrs. Wivell was preceded in death by brother-in-law, Allen Angleberger.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 2, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main St., Thurmont.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 3, at Graceham Moravian Church, Thurmont, with the Rev. Jeff Gehris officiating.

Inurnment will be in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either Graceham Moravian Church, 8231 Rocky Ridge Road, Thurmont, Md. 21788; or Hospice of Frederick County, 516 Trail Ave., Frederick, Md. 21701.

Mrs. Mary Zbignewich
Dated: Saturday, June 1, 2002.
Mrs. Mary R. Zbignewich, 67, of Mount Airy, died Thursday, May 30, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

She was the wife of Edward W. Zbignewich, her husband of 45 years.

Born Aug. 11, 1934, in Creekside, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Florence Shank Ray.

Mrs. Zbignewich was a grocery clerk for Super Fresh, retiring in 1992 after 25 years service, working most of her career at the Aspen Hill store.

She was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, Libertytown.

Mrs. Zbignewich enjoyed spending time with her family, doing crossword puzzles, and was an avid Orioles fan. She loved to play bingo and to bake, especially cookies, pies and bread.

Surviving in addition to her husband are three children, Bonnie Hanagan and husband John of Mount Airy, Edward A. Zbignewich and wife Suzanne of New Windsor, and Michael D. Zbignewich of Frederick; two grandchildren, Patrick Hanagan and Kathleen Hanagan, both of Mount Airy; and five brothers and sisters, Donald Ray of Latrobe, Pa., Richard Ray, Florence Ray and Leroy Ray, all of Indiana, Pa., and Harold Ray of Greensburg, Pa.

Mrs. Zbignewich was preceded in death by one brother, Edward Ray; and one sister, Alice Hicks.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 2, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mount Airy, where Christian wake services will be held at 8:45 p.m. Sunday.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 3, at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, 9201-A Church St., Libertytown, with the Rev. John Dietzenbach as celebrant.

Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. William Tippet Jr.
Dated: Saturday, June 1, 2002.
Mr. William T. Tippet Jr., 80, of Germantown, died Monday, May 27, at his home.

He was the husband of Eleanor E. Tippet.

Born Nov. 25, 1921, in Concord, N.H., he was a son of the late William T. Sr. and Esther Larson Tippet.

Mr. Tippet served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War.

Surviving in addition to his wife are five children, William T. Tippet III of Baltimore, Allen Tippet of Crownsville, Charlene Rodriguez and husband Carlos of Germantown, Chester A. Tippet and wife Susan of Shelby, Mich., and Carol Rimel and husband Ken of Urbana; 10 grandchildren, William T. Tippet IV, Amy and Marty Tippet, Carlos, Christina and Caroline Rodriguez, Matthew and Nick Tippet, and Stephanie and Jenna Rimel; and one sister, Patricia Riley of Lawton, Okla.

Mr. Tippet will also be remembered by his son William's companion, Julie Wise of Baltimore.

Graveside services and interment will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, in Arlington National cemetery, Arlington, Va. Those attending should assemble at the administration building by 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Montgomery Hospice Society, 1450 Research Blvd., Suite 310, Rockville, Md. 20850.

Mr. Smith Cobb Jr.
Dated: Thursday, February 7, 2002.
Mr. Smith D.A. "Skip" Cobb Jr., 77, of Freeport, Ill., died Monday, Feb. 4, at his home.

He was the husband Jean M. Schneider Cobb, whom he married June 4, 1949, in Freeport.

Born Dec. 11, 1924, in Freeport, he was a son of late Smith D.A. Cobb Sr. and Dorothy Place Cobb.

After graduating from New Trier High School, Wilmette, Ill., in 1940, he attended the University of Illinois until entering the military during World War II. He served in the U.S. Air Corps in Blackpool, England, and returned to Freeport in 1946.

For 35 years, he worked for Crum & Forster Insurance Co., Freeport. As a field man and state agent, he worked in various offices, until working in administration in both Kansas City and Minneapolis.

After retiring, he and his wife returned to Freeport in 1984, and he continued working in real estate, retiring again from Barrett Realty.

He was a member of Embury United Methodist Church, Freeport.

He enjoyed golf, fishing, reading, playing bridge and working in his woodshop.

Surviving in addition to his wife are four sons, Smith D.A. Cobb III and wife Hope C. Hendrickson of New Market, N. Tyndale Cobb II of Arlington, Va., Michael D. Cobb and wife Frances M. of Minneapolis, and David R. Cobb and wife Nancy E. of Orlando, Fla.; and eight grandchildren, Alexandra Place Cobb, Nichola and Jordan Cobb, John, Matt and Erin Barnes, and Tyler and Ryan Cobb.

Mr. Cobb was preceded in death by one sister.

There will be no visitation.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at Embury United Methodist Church, 1515 S. Galena Ave., Freeport, with the Rev. Peter Agnes officiating.

Interment will be in Oakland cemetery and Mausoleum, Freeport.

A memorial fund has been established for Embury United Methodist Church and Freeport Health Network, 1035 W. Stephenson St., Freeport, Ill. 61032.

Arrangements are by Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home, Freeport.

Mr. Forrest Rousculp
Dated: Friday, February 8, 2002.
Mr. Forrest Gene "Russ" Rousculp, 71, of Frederick, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, after a long illness.

He was the husband of Virginia Lee Goldsborough Rousculp, whom he married Jan. 11, 1964.

Born Aug. 14, 1930, in Glenford, Ohio, he was a son of the late Wayne D. and Harriet Gilmore Rousculp.

Mr. Rousculp was employed for many years as a software and hardware engineer, supporting organizations with management and technical services, analysis, testing, logistics, maintenance projects and training programs. He also was an instructor and writer of manuals and proposals.

He was member of Francis Scott Key American Legion Post 11, Frederick, and American Association of Retired Persons. He was a former member of Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, and Naval Fleet Reserve.

Mr. Rousculp sang with various local music groups. He also developed a curriculum for Abbie Business institute for an electronics technician program.

He was a life-long Lutheran and had been a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Walkersville, since 1971.

Mr. Rousculp was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served from 1953-1957, and the U.S. Navy Reserve, having served from 1970-1989.

At the age of 60, he received a bachelor of science degree from the State University of New York.

Surviving in addition to his wife are one daughter, Ellen L. McGuinness and husband John P. II of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; one son, Wayne P. Rousculp of Frederick; one grandson, John P. McGuinness III of Fort Lauderdale; a sister-in-law, Margaret R. Perry and husband Huntley H. of Damascus; a brother-in-law, Martin W. Goldsborough and wife Jennifer F. of Annapolis; and numerous nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Mr. Rousculp was preceded in death by his in-laws, Phillips L. and Anna Lee Goldsborough.

Services and interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Arrangements were by Stauffer Funeral Home, Frederick.

Mr. Paul Ward
Dated: Friday, February 8, 2002.
Mr. Paul Spencer "Tim" Ward, 66, of Buckingham's Choice Retirement Community, Adamstown, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, at Buckingham's Choice.

He was the husband of Barbara Ann Thompson Ward.

Born Jan. 8, 1936, in Baltimore, he was a son of the late William Cephas and Emily Marjorie Williams Ward.

Surviving in addition to his wife are one son, David S. Ward and wife Rebecca of Monrovia; two stepchildren, J. Brooks Ensor Jr. of Brookfield, Conn., and Deborah A. Snyder and husband Claude of Pylesville; two grandchildren, Rebecca S. Mathews and Brooks R. Ward; one great grandson, Andrew J. Mathews; and four brothers, William Ward, Donald Ward, Jack Ward and Robert Ward, all of Baltimore.

Mr. Ward was preceded in death by one grandson, Andrew D. Snyder.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.

Private funeral services and interment will be held Saturday, Feb. 9, in Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens, Timonium. The Rev. Donald Hammond will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tourette Syndrome Association of Greater Washington, 33 University Blvd. East, Silver Spring, Md. 21901.

Mrs. Irmamae Guth
Dated: Friday, February 8, 2002.
Mrs. Irmamae Guth, 75, of Copper Ridge Age Institute, Sykesville, died Thursday, Feb. 7, at Homewood at Crumland Farms, Frederick, where she had been a recent resident.

She was the wife of Milton Alvin Guth, who died in 1984.

Born March 13, 1926, in Yonkers, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Abram and Betty Mueller Friedman.

Mrs. Guth and her husband were longtime employees of Amoco Oil Co., and had been located in Chicago for many years.

She was a member of St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Manor Parish, Delaplaine Visual Arts and Education Center, Historical Society of Frederick County Inc., and Frederick County Humane Society.

Prior to moving to Copper Ridge, Mrs. Guth was active in the Crestwood Village Association, and served on the Architectural Review Committee and the Hospitality Services Program.

She had many interests including travel, painting, photography and especially sewing. She also enjoyed animals, and was a dog lover.

Surviving are a sister-in-law, Peggy Guth of Frederick; one niece, Carol Guth of Adamstown; and one cousin, Judy DeLaney of Florida.

Mrs. Guth will also be remembered by her friend, James Moloney, and her caregiver and friend, Betty I. Wolf of Frederick.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, until funeral services begin at 11 a.m. at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Mrs. Guth's pastor, the Rev. Marina Flores, of Manor Lutheran Parish, will officiate.

Interment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, 4004 Ballenger Creek Pike, Adamstown, Md. 21710.
