Mr. Paul Smith
Dated: Friday, February 8, 2002.
Mr. Paul Albert "Smitty" Smith, 81, of Fairfield, Pa., died Tuesday, Feb. 5, at Shepherd's Choice of Gettysburg, Pa.

Born Aug. 5, 1920, in Frederick County, he was a son of the late John A. and Grace Baugher Smith.

Mr. Smith was employed at Mount St. Mary's College for many years, retiring in 1985.

He had served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Surviving are three sisters, Dorothy Steeven of Harrisburg, Pa., and Alice Virginia Etzler and Anna Kay Davis, both of Walkersville.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by one brother, John W. Smith.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, at Skiles Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, with the Rev. Carl J. Fives officiating.

Interment will be in Emmitsburg Memorial cemetery, Emmitsburg.

Mrs. Thelma Kemp
Dated: Friday, February 8, 2002.
Mrs. Thelma Marcella Kemp, 75, of Inwood, W.Va., formerly of Frederick, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.

She was the wife of Harvey T. Kemp. They were married nearly 50 years.

Born Oct. 20, 1926, in Venturia, N.D., she was a daughter of the late Fred and Katie Herr Hoff.

Mrs. Kemp was a member of First Baptist Church of Ranson, W.Va.

She was a bookkeeper for Jefferson Security Bank in Shepherdstown, W.Va. until her retirement in 1988. She had also been a teacher at various Christian schools.

In her spare time, Mrs. Kemp enjoyed gardening. She had a strong interest in health and nutrition.

Surviving in addition to her husband are four children, Rebecca Richardson and husband Bill of Middleway, W.Va., Steven Kemp and wife Edy of Woodbridge, Va., Charles Kemp and wife Cindy of Knoxville, and Brenda Sherwood and husband Matt of Front Royal, Va.; 13 grandchildren, Daniel Kemp, Esther Nordheim, Crystal Richardson, Rachel Richardson, Matthew, Janet, Josh, Cody, Kevin, Caleb, Jennifer, Tom and Kirk Kemp; one great-grandchild, Brian Kemp; and five sisters, Frances Hoffman, Marjorie Gegelman, Vivian Swierenga, Delores Hoeldtke and Loretta Blank.

Mrs. Kemp was preceded in death by two sisters.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11, at the funeral home. The Revs. Al Cameron and Mike Withem will officiate.

Interment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

Those desiring may send memorial contributions to a charity of one's choice.

Mrs. Marietta Rollins
Dated: Saturday, February 9, 2002.
Mrs. Marietta Marie Rollins, 46, of Frederick, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, at her home.

She was the wife of Robert E. Rollins Sr.

Born May 21, 1955, in Frederick, she was a daughter of the late Sylvester J. and Betty R. Whims Morris.

Mrs. Rollins was a member of Quinn Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church of Frederick for over 20 years. She sang on the Quinn Chapel Gospel Choir, the Quinn Chapel Senior Choir and the former Quinntones Gospel Choir.

She was a member of the Ruth S. Brooks Scholarship Committee and she was a van driver for the church.

She was a member of the Faith Gospel Singers of Frederick. She enjoyed singing, helping others, and taking care of her grandchildren.

Surviving in addition to her husband are one daughter, Paris Rodriguez and husband Shawn of Frederick; two sons, Robert E. Rollins Jr. and wife Stephanie of Frederick, and Nathan C. Rollins of Frederick; six grandchildren, Rakim Hamilton, Qadira Weilner, Shawn-Luke Rodriguez and Kierra Rodriguez, Tyrell Weedon and Cheyanne Rollins; one brother, Elmer L Morris of Wilmington, Del.; two sisters, Patricia A. Morrison of Frederick, and Felicia Diane Cartnail of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Rollins was preceded in death by one brother, Sylvester J. Morris Jr.; and one son, Maurice A. Holland.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, at Gary L. Rollins Funeral Home, 110 W. South St., Frederick.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, at Quinn Chapel AME Church, 106 E. Third St., Frederick, with Pastor Luke J. Robinson officiating.

Interment will be in Fairview cemetery, Frederick.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Gary L. Rollins Funeral Home.

Mrs. Betty Smith

Mrs. Betty Lou Smith, 66, of 5812 Shookstown Road, Frederick, died Thursday, Feb. 7, at her home.

She was the wife of the late Edwin M. Smith, who died in 1994.

Born June 15, 1935, in Blackwater, Va., she was a daughter of Eulah Jenkins Collins of Frederick, and the late Shirley Collins.

Mrs. Smith had been employed as a route carrier for The Frederick News-Post for over 20 years, where she retired in 1993.

She enjoyed gardening, bluegrass music and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving in addition to her mother are two sons, Daniel Smith and wife and Donna of Emmitsburg, and Robert Clingerman and wife Tammy of Blackwater, Va.; two daughters, Dorothy Zentz and husband Robert of Myersville, and Linda Zinn of Frederick; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ellen Reed of Mount Airy, and Wanda Collins of Ranson, W.Va.; four brothers, Merhle Collins of Littlestown, Pa., Tommy Collins of Hedgesville, W.Va., Larry Collins of Killeen, Texas, and Junior Collins of Chincoteague, Va.; and one aunt, Ruth Muhlbauer of Marriottsville.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Debra A. Smith; and two sisters, Mary Collins and Dorothy Fox Biddinger.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, and from 11 a.m. until services start at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 10, at Robert E. Dailey & Son Funeral Home, 1201 N. Market St., Frederick, with Donald Moser, Jehovah's Witness, officiating.

Interment will be in Glade cemetery, Walkersville.

Mrs. Josephine Brice
Dated: Saturday, February 9, 2002.
Mrs. Josephine Brice, 71, of 13358 South Avenue, Blue Ridge Summit, Pa., died Thursday, Feb. 7, at Waynesboro Hospital, Waynesboro, Pa.

She was the wife of Herbert A.E. Brice, whom she married in 1947.

Born Sept. 24, 1930, in Thurmont, she was a daughter of the late Omar and Ethel Josephine Hahn Duble.

Mrs. Brice had been employed as a secretary and accountant at Lowes and Routzahn's.

She was a member and past treasurer of the Blue Ridge Ambulance Relief Association. She enjoyed gardening.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, Douglas E. Brice and wife Lynette of Bainbridge, Ohio, and John C. Brice and wife Laura of Sabillasville; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Marilyn Brown of Arlington, Texas, Janice Zabkie of Roseville, Calif., and Roberta Demario of Frederick; and several nieces and nephews.

She will also be remembered by friends Lois and Robert Lynn Jr. of Blue Ridge Summit.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, at Robert E. Dailey & Son Funeral Home, 615 E. Main St., Thurmont.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11, at the funeral home with the Rev. Eugene M. Cline, of Greenstone Apostolic Church, Greenstone, Pa., officiating.

Interment will be in Blue Ridge cemetery, Thurmont.

The family requests that memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association, 3120 Timanus Lane, Suite 106, Baltimore, Md. 21244.

Mr. Glenn Lowe
Dated: Saturday, February 9, 2002.
Mr. Glenn M. Lowe, 46, of Princess Anne, formerly of Cedar Grove, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, at Salisbury Regional Hospital, Salisbury.

Born Sept. 15, 1955, in Olney, he was a son of Madge Butry Lowe of Princess Anne, and the late Glen L. Lowe.

Surviving in addition to his mother are one son, Glenn L. Lowe and wife Crystal of Frederick; two daughters, Hope and Cassy Lowe, both of Salisbury; two grandchildren, Katelynn Day and Samantha Lowe; one sister, Lauralee Lowe of Fairmount; and one brother, Timmy Lowe of Princess Anne.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, at Olin L. Molesworth Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11.

Interment will be up Upper Seneca Baptist Church cemetery, Cedar Grove.

Mrs. Dorothy Redmond
Dated: Monday, February 4, 2002.
Mrs. Dorothy L. Ennis Redmond, 71, of South Walnut Street, Hagerstown, died Thursday, Jan. 31, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, Noah Ennis and Raymond Redmond.

Born Jan. 25, 1931, in Rockville, she was a daughter of the late Claude O. and Lillian Melvin Carlisle.

Surviving are three daughters, Peggy Willard and husband Dennis of Foxville, Margaret Justice and husband Gary of Manassas, Va., and Diana Biser and husband Donald of Falling Waters, W.Va.; two sons, Alexander Ennis and Melvin Ennis, both of Hagerstown; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Redmond was preceded in death by a daughter, Patsy L. Ennis.

There will be no viewing.

Private graveside services will be held in Brown cemetery, Foxville, with Pastor Gregory Reynolds officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mount Pleasant Church of God Land Fund, 24107 Foxville Road, Smithsburg, Md. 21783.

Arrangements are by Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg.

Mrs. Judith Burns
Dated: Monday, February 4, 2002.
Mrs. Judith A. McNish Burns, 54, of Gaithersburg, died Friday, Feb. 1, at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, Rockville.

She was the wife of Donald F. Burns Jr. of Point of Rocks.

Born March 16, 1947, in Washington, she was a daughter of Dona D. McNish of Chevy Chase.

Mrs. Burns was a homemaker.

She was a graduate of Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School, Bethesda.

Mrs. Burns had received the Maryland Trophy Bass award.

Surviving in addition to her husband are one son, Joseph D. Burns and wife Janice of Lexington, S.C.; two daughters, Bonnie A. Melby and husband Michael, and Kelly I. Roth and husband Tom, all of New Market; one sister, Elisa M. Braddock of Bloomingdale, Ohio; one brother, Russell D. McNish and wife Sharon of Potomac; and six grandchildren, Ashley Burns, and Samantha, Jacqueline, Heather, Michael and Robert Melby.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, at DeVol Funeral Home, 10 E. Deer Park Drive, Gaithersburg.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Lung Association.

Mr. George Rippeon Jr.
Dated: Monday, February 4, 2002.
Mr. George Wilbur Rippeon Jr., 52, of Woodbine, died Friday, Feb. 1, at Carroll County General Hospital, Westminster.

Born Oct. 5, 1949, in Woodbine, he was the son of Naomi King Rippeon and the late George Wilbur Rippeon Sr.

He was a grounds worker for Montgomery County Country Golf Club.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing and activities with his family.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by a sister, Charlotte Collins of Woodbine; a brother, Jeff Rippeon of Woodbine; and nieces and nephews, Julie Collins Pennington of Westminster, and Timothy, Amy and Zachary Rippeon, all of Woodbine.

Family and friends may call Tuesday, Feb. 5, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Burrier-Queen Funeral Directors, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield. Memorial services will begin at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Jerry Kline officiating.

Interment will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
