Mr. Phil Perkins
Dated: Friday, September 28, 2001.
Mr. Phil Elbert Perkins, 71, of 425 Terry Court, Frederick, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, at College View Center.

He was the husband of the late Nicie Perkins.

Born Feb. 6, 1930, in Ronceverte, W.Va., he was a son of the late Ralph Erwin and Eliza Renick Perkins.

Mr. Perkins was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served with Company B, 86th Heavy Tank Battalion, 3rd Armored Division.

He worked at the Everedy Plant on East Street as a machine operator and at General Tire. He later was employed by Eastalco Aluminum as a maintenance mechanic, and retired from the central shop where he worked on the repair of all plant equipment.

Mr. Perkins was a volunteer with the Frederick Memorial Hospital "Wings" program. He had recently been honored as a distinguished member of the International Society of Poets.

Surviving are four siblings, John Perkins and wife Eleanore of Arlington, Va., Paul Perkins of Silver Spring, Ralph Perkins and wife Donna of Frederick, and Dorcas Borchardt of Fairfax, Va.

Relatives and friends may call at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel.

Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, Md. 21702-1799.

Mrs. Patsy Rice
Dated: Friday, September 28, 2001.
Mrs. Patsy Ann Rice, 68, of Mountaindale, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

She was the wife of Maurice C. Rice, whom she married Jan. 8, 1956.

Born Oct. 31, 1932, in Mountaindale, she was a daughter of the late Jesse R. Sr. and Jenny Welty Marshall.

Mrs. Rice was a member of Monocacy Church of the Brethren, Rocky Ridge, and had been employed at Muse Tailoring Co. in Frederick.

Surviving in addition to her husband are one daughter, Dorothy Demory and husband Ron of Frederick; one son, Maurice Michael Rice and wife Martha of Frederick; four grandsons, Christopher Demory of Arlington, Va., and Wesley Demory, Jim Rice and David Rice, all of Frederick; two sisters, Nancy Renner and husband Maurice of Cookville, Tenn., and Sally Abiba and husband Jim of Glenwood; a sister-in-law, Janice Marshall of Thurmont; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Rice was preceded in death by one brother, Jesse R. Marshall; and one sister, Dorothy Marshall.

Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, at Robert E. Dailey & Son Funeral Home, 615 E. Main St., Thurmont. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Donald Stine officiating.

Interment will be in Mount Prospect cemetery Church cemetery (Little Church on the Hill), Lewistown.

Memorial contributions may be made to Monocacy Church of the Brethren, 13517 Motter Station Road, Rocky Ridge, Md. 21778, or to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, Md. 21702.

Mrs. Virginia Fraley
Dated: Thursday, June 21, 2001.
Mrs. Virginia T. Fraley, 84, of Adamstown, formerly of Rockville, died Tuesday, June 19, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

She was the wife of the late Albert Grover Fraley, whom she married in 1938.

Born April 7, 1917, in Adamstown, she was a daughter of the late Paul Sylvester and Alice Lee Thomas.

Mrs. Fraley was a 1933 graduate of Gaithersburg High School, Gaithersburg. She attended Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Va. and had worked as a substitute teacher in Montgomery County for approximately 15 years. She was also the retired president of Fraley Supply Co. of Frederick and Rockville.

She was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Adamstown, and the Carroll Manor Homemakers, Adamstown. She was organizing regent of Goshen Mills Chapter of NSDAR (National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution), Gaithersburg, and a member of Potomack River Chapter, CDXVIIC (Colonial Dames of the 17th Century). She was also an avid supporter of Hungerford Resolves Society of the NSCAR (National Society of the Children of the American Revolution).

Surviving are three daughters, Eleanor F. Duvall and husband George of Damascus, Rebecca F. McMenimen and husband Michael of Minnesota, and Paula F. Smith of Adamstown; five grandchildren, Lee Duvall of Damascus, Kerry Andreae of Missouri, Robert McMenimen of Minnesota, Peter Duvall of Damascus, and Sarah Smith of Adamstown; three stepgrandsons, Kevin McMenimen of Minnesota, Andrew McMenimen of New York, and Matthew McMenimen of Washington; one sister, Ellen Lowery of Middletown; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Fraley will also be remembered by former son-in-law, John Anthony Smith of Silver Spring.

Mrs. Fraley was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Louise Fraley; one sister, Alice Pauline Hildebrandt; and one brother, Sylvester Lee Thomas.

Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 22, at Muriel H. Barber Funeral Home, 21525 Laytonsville Road, Laytonsville.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 23, at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, 4004 Ballenger Creek Pike, Frederick, where friends may visit one hour prior to the services. The Rev. Marina Flores will officiate.

Interment will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, in St. Luke's Lutheran cemetery, Redland.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthew's Lutheran Church.

Mr. Lauren Wolfe
Dated: Thursday, June 21, 2001.
Mr. Lauren Wade "Jake" Wolfe, 74, of Wolfsville, died Tuesday, June 19, at Johns Hopkins University Hospital, Baltimore, after a long illness.

He was the husband of G. Patricia Swope Wolfe, his wife of 51 years.

Born Jan. 21, 1927, in Wolfsville, he was a son of Victor Monroe and Bertha Gaynell Metzer Wolfe.

Mr. Wolfe attended Middletown High School.

He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Wolfsville; Dixon-Troxell American Legion, Funkstown; Elks Lodge 378, Hagerstown; and Conococheague Tribe 84, I.O. Red Men, Williamsport. He was a co-founder of the Wolfsville Ruritan Club.

Mr. Wolfe served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was the founder and president of Wolfe Brothers Inc. He later served as president of L.W. Wolfe Enterprises until his retirement in 1993.

Surviving in addition to his wife are four daughters, Lauren Masser and husband Gary, Tonia Wolfe-Mueller and husband Klauss, and Kim Tolland and husband Dennis, all of Wolfsville, and April Wolfe of Charlottesville, Va.; two sisters, Audrey McNaney of Hagerstown, and Virginia Stains of Frederick; two brothers, Victor and Willis Wolfe, both of Wolfsville; 11 grandchildren, Wade, Clint, Cabel and Jacob Masser, Matthew, Leah, Christian and Audrey Tolland, Ava and Lauren Considine, and Lily Mueller; and two great-grandchildren, Kristin and Layne Masser.

Mr. Wolfe will also be remembered by his daughter April's friend, Mitchell Kambis of Charlottesville.

Mr. Wolfe was preceded in death by one brother, Gail Wolfe.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 22, at Ricketts Funeral Home, 504 Main St., Myersville.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 23, at Salem United Methodist Church, Wolfsville, with Pastors Randall Reid and Hayden Sparks officiating.

Interment will be in German Reformed cemetery, Wolfsville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either Salem United Methodist Church, 12477 Wolfsville Road, Myersville, or St. Mark's Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 13, Myersville, Md. 21773.

Mrs. Norma Day
Dated: Friday, June 22, 2001.
Mrs. Norma Virginia Sigafoose Day, 80, of Frederick, died Wednesday, June 20, at Northampton Manor Nursing Home, Frederick.

She was the wife of Robert John Day Sr. who died April 4, 2000.

Born May 30, 1921, in Baltimore, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Anna Kent Sigafoose.

Mrs. Day was a member of Brook Hill United Methodist Church, Frederick.

She had previously been employed by Control Data in Rockville.

Surviving are one son, Robert John Day Jr. and wife Nancy of Baltimore; one daughter, Arlene A. Carr of Frederick; six grandchildren, Robert John Day III, Michael Day, Kelly Long, Lauren Carr, Amy Darnell and Susan Burgee; and six great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 22, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 23, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dr. Conrad O. Link, pastor of Brook Hill United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association, Western Maryland Chapter, 1730 N. Market St., Frederick, Md. 21701-4307.

Mr. Drew Deford
Dated: Friday, June 22, 2001.
Mr. Drew Anthony Deford, 32, of Catonsville, formerly of Westminster, died suddenly Tuesday, June 19, at his home.

Born July 10, 1968, he was the son of Bonnie K. Fair of Frederick.

He is survived by one son, Darek; one daughter, Abby; stepfather Melvin J. Fair Jr.; his aunt and uncle Ruby and Dwight Phillips; and cousins, Amy Eilola, Mike and Dan Phillips.

He will also be remembered by Crystal Fonte and Pastor Wildner.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 24, at Brooke Hill United Methodist Church at 3 p.m.; friends and family are welcome.

Mr. Carl Thompson
Dated: Friday, June 22, 2001.
Mr. Carl Albert Thompson, 67, of 3 N. Carroll St., Thurmont, died suddenly Wednesday, June 20, in Emmitsburg.

He was the husband of Carmen F. Shriner Thompson, whom he married Nov. 26, 1965.

Born Dec. 1, 1933, in Gettysburg, Pa., he was a son of the late Charles A. Thompson and Lula Woodring Thompson Sill.

Mr. Thompson was employed with W.F. Wilson & Son Construction Co. in Columbia for 25 years. Later he was employed with the Frederick County Board of Education as a custodian from April 1, 1976, until his retirement in 1999. He had been substituting as a custodian with the Board of Education at the time of his death.

He enjoyed woodworking, birds, motorcycles, and was an avid Baltimore Orioles fan.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Carolyn A. Sexton of Frederick, and Debbie Thompson of Thurmont; one son, J. Ronald Pearcey and wife Melanie of Frederick; 12 grandchildren, James Woodby and wife Brenda, Lamesha Hurley and husband Tyrone, Patricia Woodby, Daniel Woodby, Jamie Cloutier and husband Eric, Troy Sexton, Jeremy Pearcey, David Pearcey, April Barnes, Lisa Burker, Rick Reeder and Bob Reeder; many great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one sister, Mary Gamber and husband Harry of Glydon; and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by one daughter, Joan L. Pearcey.

Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 24, at Robert E. Dailey & Son Funeral Home, 615 E. Main St., Thurmont. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 25, at the funeral home, with Dr. James L. Fisher officiating.

Interment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

Mr. Joseph Fox
Dated: Friday, June 22, 2001.
Mr. Joseph Jackson Fox, 80, of 1 Sandy Spring Court, Thurmont, died Wednesday, June 20, at his home.

He was the husband of Gene Pryor Fox, whom he married Sept. 10, 1945.

Born April 14, 1921, in Mount Zion, Washington County, he was a son of the late Charles R. and Flora Brown Fox.

Mr. Fox was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Sabillasville.

He was a life member of Blue Ridge Summit Fire Co., Blue Ridge Summit, Pa.; a life member of the Disabled American Veterans of Frederick; and a member of Edwin Creeger Post 168 American Legion of Thurmont, National American Association of Retired People, and Thurmont Senior Citizens.

Mr. Fox had been employed with Pangborn Corp. in Hagerstown as a sheet metal layout worker until 1969.

He was a veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Army, Coast Artillery.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, Michael Fox and wife Carol of Sewaren, N.J., and Charles Fox and wife Joyce, and Gregory Fox and wife Sheila, all of Sabillasville; five grandchildren, Shawn Fox, Amy Fox, Kerry Hacen, Chris Fox and Ryan Fox; two stepgrandchildren, Chris Brown and Kim Brown; one great-grandson, Jonathan Hacen; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Tyler Silverman and Ramon Montaniz; one sister, Hilda Sanders of Chambersburg, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Fox was preceded in death by one son, Joseph J. Fox Jr.; three brothers, Wilbur Fox, Samuel Fox and Clifford Fox; and two sisters, Nellie Manahan and Agnes Kuhn.

Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 22, at Robert E. Dailey & Son Funeral Home, 615 E. Main St., Thurmont. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 23, at the funeral home, with Mr. Fox's pastor, the Rev. Janet Comings, of St. John's United Church of Christ, Sabillasville, and Pastor Joanne Gaver, Church of the Brethren of Thurmont, officiating.

Interment will be in Bethel cemetery, Cascade.
