Mr. James Mitchell

Mr. James Alfred Mitchell, of Germantown, died Wednesday, July 25.

He was the husband of Ruby V. Mitchell.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters, Joyce Stevens, Sandy Mills and Tina Healand; one brother, John Mitchell; one sister, Pauline Cosner; and eight grandchildren.

Mr. Mitchell was preceded in death by one son, John A. Mitchell.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, July 27, at DeVol Funeral Home, 10 E. Deer Park Drive, Gaithersburg.

Interment will be in St. Luke's Lutheran Church cemetery, Derwood.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Boyds Presbyterian Church, American Diabetes Association, or American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Lucille Gilbert
Dated: Friday, July 27, 2001.
Mrs. Lucille Gilbert, 78, of Frederick, died Tuesday, July 24, at Citizens Nursing Home, Frederick.

She was the wife of Richard Gilbert Sr., who died in 1971.

Born April 20, 1923, in Marham, Va., she was a daughter of the late Frank and Ruby Brooks Sr.

Mrs. Gilbert was retired from Citizens Nursing Home where she had been employed for many years as an activities aide.

She was a member of Mount Olivet Baptist Church of Brunswick, where she served on the deaconess board.

She was a 1940 graduate of Lincoln High School.

Mrs. Gilbert served as treasurer of the Shenandoah Baptist Women Missionary Auxiliary for many years and was past daughter ruler of Madame C.J. Walker Mountain City Elks Lodge 382, Frederick.

Surviving are three daughters, Janet Young, Patricia Jackson and husband Charles, and Shirley Gilbert, all of Frederick; five sons, Richard Gilbert Jr. and wife Phyllis, and Lewis Gilbert, all of York, Pa., Karl Eugene Gilbert and wife Angela of Baltimore, Garret Gilbert and wife Kathy of Gettysburg, Pa., and Kenneth Gilbert and wife Saufong of Brooklyn, N.Y.; four sisters, evangelist Rosie Campbell and husband Gerald, and Peggy Brooks, all of Brunswick, evangelist Margaret Lee and husband Bishop Harry Lee, and evangelist Frances Grimsley and husband Bishop Harry Grimsley, all of Aberdeen; two brothers, Minister James Brooks and wife Priscilla of Hunterstown, Pa., and Robert Brooks of Walkersville; 22 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Margaret Butler of Knoxville; brother-in-law, Donald Holland of Brunswick; one aunt, Emma Hosby of Martinsburg, W.Va.; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Gilbert will also be remembered by her daughter Shirley's friend, Tyrone of Frederick; her son Lewis' friend, Connie of York; her brother Robert's friend, Thelma of Walkersville; and her friends, Dorothy Hoy, Grace Cartnail and Rosetta Terry and families, all of Frederick.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 27, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.

Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, July 28, at Mount Olivet Baptist Church, 26 W. J St., Brunswick, with the Rev. Aaron Moye Jr. officiating.

Entombment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Frederick.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mount Olivet Baptist Church, 26 W. J St., Brunswick, Md. 21716.

Mr. Martin Bandler
Dated: Friday, July 27, 2001.
Mr. Martin Leonard Bandler, 77, of Walkersville, died Saturday, July 21, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

He was the husband of Marlene Bandler.

Born May 7, 1924, in Washington, he was the son of the late Samuel and Ellen Hayden Bandler.

Mr. Bandler worked as a telemetry engineer for the U.S. government and served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1968.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by seven children, Jerry Bandler, Carey Bandler, Victoria Phillipson, Julia Bandler, Cheryl Kneip, Lisa Bandler and Leslie McCallum; one brother, William Bandler; and grandchildren.

Interment services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 7 at 3 p.m. at Arlington National cemetery, Arlington, Va., with Rabbi Saul Koss officiating, procession to form at the Administration Building. Full Navy honors will be granted to Mr. Bandler.

The family will receive friends immediately following the services at the residence of Jerry and Jennifer Bandler.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to PETA or Greenpeace.

Arrangements are by Danzansky-Goldberg Memorial Chapels Inc., Rockville.

Mrs. Myrtle Hitselberger
Dated: Saturday, July 28, 2001.
Mrs. Myrtle Marie Hitselberger, who owned and operated The Green Inn in Libertytown, died Friday, July 27, at her home in Libertytown after a long illness. She was 100.

She and her husband John J. Hitselberger, who died in 1951, ran The Green Inn for many years and she continued after his death.

She was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Libertytown Volunteer Fire Co., and was an avid reader and crocheter who gave away many of her crocheted items as gifts and donations.

Born July 2, 1901, in Rockwood, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Elmer J. and Annie Knopsnyder Ringer.

Mrs. Hitselberger was a member of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Libertytown, where she had attended Mass regularly until age 92.

Surviving are one daughter, Ann R. Stevens of Libertytown; one son, James W. Hitselberger and wife Jeanette of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; eight grandchildren, John J. Hitselberger IV and wife Mimi of Port Orange, Fla., Barbara Carter and husband Vinson of Gouldsboro, Maine, Mykel Hitselberger and wife Claudia Harrington of Frederick, Brenda Cregger of Surfside Beach, S.C., Cindy Cook and husband Timothy of Conway, S.C., Robert Stevens and wife Rhonda of Mount Airy, Edward Stevens and wife Connie of Union Bridge, and Douglas Stevens and wife Teresa of Libertytown; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Hitselberger will also be remembered by caregivers, Linda Hurley and Eileen Krema.

Mrs. Hitselberger was preceded in death by one son, John J. Hitselberger III in 1988; daughter-in-law, Catherine D. Hitselberger, in 1999; son-in-law, Robert Stevens, in 1991; and three brothers, Floyd Ringer in 1992, Wilbur Ringer in 1997, and Robert W. Ringer in 1998.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, July 29, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 11802 Liberty Road, Libertytown, where Christian Wake services will be held at 8:45 p.m. Sunday, with Deacon Michael Misulia officiating.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, July 30, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Gene Nickol as celebrant.

Interment will be in St. Peter's cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to either St. Peter's Catholic Church, P.O. Box 278, Libertytown, or Libertytown Volunteer Fire Co., P.O. Box 33, Libertytown, Md. 21762.

Mrs. Marie Eyler
Dated: Saturday, July 28, 2001.
Mrs. Marie May Eyler, 84, of Frederick, died Thursday, July 26, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.

She was the wife of Albert Lewis Eyler Sr. who died April 26, 1983.

Born Sept. 12, 1916, in Hagerstown, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Edna Phlunger Samuels.

Mrs. Eyler was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church, Frederick.

Surviving are one son, one daughter, one brother, one sister, five grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Eyler was preceded in death by one son.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, July 30, in Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick. Those wishing to attend should assemble inside the main gate by 2:45 p.m. The Rev. Thomas W. Claggett III, deacon of All Saints Episcopal Church, will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Frederick County Humane Society, 1832 Rosemont Ave., Frederick, Md. 21702.

Arrangements are by Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, Frederick.

Mrs. Margaret Wilhide
Dated: Saturday, July 28, 2001.
Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth Watkins Wilhide, 90, of West Main Street, Emmitsburg, died Thursday, July 26, at Gettysburg Hospital, Gettysburg, Pa.

She was the wife of George L. Wilhide, whom she married in 1937. He died in 1965.

Born July 5, 1911, near Browningsville, she was a daughter of the late William Ernest and Myrtie Estella King Watkins.

Mrs. Wilhide later lived in Kemptown, and then moved to Emmitsburg where she was a teacher.

Surviving are four children, George Thomas Wilhide of Emmitsburg, Steven Douglas Wilhide of Cincinnati, Dr. Elizabeth Kay Wilhide Tanner of Huntsville, Ala., and David Alan Wilhide of Ellicott City; and five grandchildren, Brian Douglas Wilhide of Lawrence, Kan., Michael Edward Wilhide of Cincinnati, and Edward James Tanner III, Heather Elizabeth Tanner and Melissa Anne Tanner, all of Huntsville.

Mrs. Wilhide was preceded in death by two brothers, William E. Watkins and Robert W. Watkins.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday, July 29, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 313 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday. Mrs. Wilhide's former pastor, Dr. James L. Fisher, will officiate.

Interment will be in Weller's cemetery, Thurmont.

Memorial contributions may be made to either Trinity United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 481, Emmitsburg, or Emmitsburg Ambulance Co., 300 S. Seton Ave., Emmitsburg, Md. 21727.

Mrs. Dorothy Marshall
Dated: Saturday, July 28, 2001.
Mrs. Dorothy A. Rensel Marshall, 90, of Taylorsville, formerly of Holiday, Fla., died Friday, July 27, at her home, after a short illness.

She was the wife of the late Robert E. Marshall.

Born May 27, 1911, in Du Bois, Pa., she was a daughter of the late John B. and Verna Ella Shoke Rensel.

Mrs. Marshall was a beautician for 27 years.

Surviving are two sons, Arthur E. Marshall of Virginia, and R. Jay Marshall of Taylorsville; two daughters-in-law; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Marshall was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Kim Cole.

Interment will be private.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Carroll Hospice, 95 Carroll St., Westminster, Md. 21157.

Arrangements are by Burrier-Queen Funeral Home, Winfield.

Dr. Byron Inman
Dated: Saturday, July 28, 2001.
Dr. Byron W. Inman, 87, of Baltimore, died Friday, July 27, at Homewood at Crumland Farms, Frederick.

He was the husband of Dorothea I. Wellschlager Inman, who died in 1980.

Born May 11, 1914, in Mount Airy, N.C., he was a son of the late Byron H. and Stella Mae Worrell Inman.

Mr. Inman was a dentist who practiced in the Baltimore area and was a member of the Maryland State Dental Association.

He enjoyed playing golf, collecting Civil War items, and was an avid antique tool collector, belonging to Patina Tool Collectors Club.

Dr. Inman served as a captain in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Surviving are four children, Lois Inman Engle of Berkeley, Calif., Kathy Inman Maxwell and husband James of Clarksburg, Byron Wallace Inman Jr. of Butler, and Bonnie Inman Collins of Parkton; five grandchildren, Diana Elise Engle, Alison Leigh Maxwell, Melissa Gray Maxwell, Stella Margaret Collins and Rex Henry Collins; one brother, Grayson Inman; and one sister, Elaine Inman Bradner.

Graveside services and interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 839 Quince Orchard Blvd., Suite E, Gaithersburg, Md. 20878.

Arrangements are by Stauffer Funeral Home, Frederick.

Mrs. Kathryn Bowling
Dated: Saturday, July 28, 2001.
Mrs. Kathryn Doris Stitely Bowling, 89, of Grand Island, Neb., died Thursday, July 19, at Tiffany Square Care Center, Grand Island.

She was the wife of the late Rev. L. Paul Bowling. They were married on May 12, 1931, in Hagerstown.

Born Jan. 9, 1912, in Bark Hill, she was the daughter of Harry Winfield and Nora Harriet Smith Stitley.

The couple lived in Beckley, W.Va. Later, Mrs. Bowling and her husband lived in various other states, including Delaware, Indiana, New Jersey, South Dakota and Nebraska, where he was in pastoral services for the American Baptist Churches. They moved to Grand Island, where he was pastor at the First Baptist Church.

She was the church secretary from March 1960 to November 1971. After her husband died Oct. 2, 1992, she continued to live in Grand Island.

She grew up and attended school in Hagerstown, and graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1930.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, United Commercial Travelers, AARP, NARFE, and was active with the Esther Circle at First Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Jim Bowling and wife Jean of Doniphan, Neb., and Lewis Bowling and wife Vivian of Lexington, Ky.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Paula Kay; her grandparents, Samuel A. and Missouri Victoria Hahn Stitely, and John Nelson and Martha Georgeann Myers Smith.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 28, at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home Chapel, Grand Island, Neb. The Rev. Dwayne Bennett will officiate.

Interment will be in Grand Island City cemetery.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 811 W. 10th St., Grand Island, Neb. 68801.
