Mr. Ernest Kranz
Dated: Wednesday, June 13, 2001.
Mr. Ernest S. Kranz, 83, of Monrovia, died Monday, June 11, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

He was the husband of the late Alvina S. Kranz.

Born Oct. 12, 1917, in Chicago, he was a son of the late Joseph and Rose Szpajer Kranz.

Mr. Kranz served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

He was a retired educator.

Surviving are four children, W. Thomas Kranz and wife Karen of Monrovia, Kenneth E. Kranz and wife Linda of Fishkill, N.Y., Mary E. Barker and husband Andrew of Toronto, Canada, and Michelle Jennings and husband Jeffrey of Mount Airy; nine grandchildren, Terri Kranz, Kristin, Kimberly and Kelly Kranz, Jillian and Andrew Barker, and Justin, Jordan and Arick Jennings; and one sister, Dolores Domzalski of Chicago.

Mr. Kranz will also be remembered by his friends John Ziolkowski and Harry Nustad.

Mr. Kranz was preceded in death by one brother, Edward Kranz.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 4 p.m. Friday, June 15, at St. Ignatius of Loyola Roman Catholic Church, 4301 Prices Distillery Road, Ijamsville.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Alzheimer's Association of Frederick County, 1730 N. Market St., Frederick, Md. 21701.

Arrangements are by Olin L. Molesworth Funeral Home, Damascus.

Mr. Gary Hammer
Dated: Wednesday, June 13, 2001.
Mr. Gary S. "Pete" Hammer, 59, of Boyds, died May 21, at his home, of multiple myeloma.

He was the husband of Nancy Eye Myers Hammer.

Born Feb. 19, 1942, in Franklin, W.Va., he was the son of Sylvia Hartman Hammer and the late Raymond B. Hammer.

He relocated to Washington in 1960. He was appointed to the D.C. Fire Department on April 7, 1963, from where he retired as Battalion Fire Chief on Feb. 28, 1985. On March 4, 1985, he was appointed to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.

Mr. Hammer was a member of the D.C. Firefighters Association Local 36, Retired Firefighters Association of Washington, Knights of Pythias of Gaithersburg, and Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp 1706.

He enjoyed pitching horseshoes, listening to bluegrass music, and discussing politics and history.

Funeral services were held May 24 at Germantown Baptist Church.

Mr. James Grillbortzer
Dated: Thursday, June 14, 2001.
Mr. James Earl Grillbortzer, 53, of Frederick, died Monday, June 11, at his home.

Born Jan. 15, 1948, in Washington, he was a son of Mary Carmella Bello Grillbortzer of Silver Spring, and the late William Earl Grillbortzer.

Mr. Grillbortzer was a computer programer. After retiring from Bell Atlantic, he went to work for Windstar in Herndon, Va. where, for the past 2-1/2 years, he had worked as a translation specialist.

Surviving in addition to his mother are two daughters, Theresa Richey and husband Robert of Hagerstown, and Tina Oden and husband Richard Jr. of Myersville; two granddaughters, Samantha Oden of Myersville, and Amanda Richey of Hagerstown; one brother, John P. Grillbortzer and wife Jenny of Martinsburg, W.Va.; and one sister, Janet Grillbortzer of Silver Spring.

Mr. Grillbortzer will also be remembered by his former wife, Gail Grantham Schuler of Silver Spring.

Services and interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a fund for Mr. Grillbortzer's two granddaughters, c/o Terri Richey, 21819 White Oak Road, Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Arrangements are by Stauffer Funeral Home, Frederick.

Mr. Mark Masser
Dated: Thursday, June 14, 2001.
Mr. Mark Alan Masser, 42, a resident of Potomac Center, Hagerstown, since 1979, died Tuesday, June 12, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.

Born March 25, 1959, in Findlay, Ohio, he was a son of the Rev. Glenn Earl and Mary Virginia Grams Masser of Venedocia, Ohio, formerly of Frederick.

Surviving in addition to his parents are two brothers, Robert Eugene Masser and wife Peggy of Montrose, Mich., and Dr. Philip Ray Masser and wife Kelly of Celina, Ohio; two nephews, Jeremy R. Masser and Brian R. Masser; and five nieces, Heather Jo Masser, Rachel Lynn Masser, Sarah Beth Masser, Emily Jane Masser and Laura Ann Masser.

Mr. Masser was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Leslie and Lillian Whipp Masser; and maternal grandparents, Thomas and Madeline Springer Grams.

The family will receive friends from noon Saturday, June 16, until time of funeral services at 1 p.m., at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. The Rev. Ray A. Benner, pastor of Edgewood Church of God, Frederick, will officiate.

Interment will be in Rocky Springs cemetery, Frederick.

The family suggests memorial donations may be made to either Potomac Center, Marshall Street, Hagerstown, Md. 21740, or Edgewood Church of God, 8204 Edgewood Church Road, Frederick, Md. 21702.

Mr. Briscoe Reeser
Dated: Thursday, June 21, 2001.
Mr. Briscoe George "Brick" Reeser, 85, of 11615 Pinesburg Road, Williamsport, died Monday, June 18, at his home.

He was the husband of Dorothy Elizabeth Ambrose Reeser, his wife of 61 years.

Born Feb. 22, 1916, in Weaverton, he was the son of the late Thomas Wesley and Annie Elizabeth Nield Reeser.

He retired from Western Maryland Railroad in 1978 after 37 years. He owned and operated the Pinesburg Grocery in Pinesburg from 1962-1971.

He was a member of Gateway Church of God, Williamsport.

He was also a member of American Association of Retired Persons, and Western Maryland RR Old Timers Association.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Donald L. Reeser of Hagerstown, Ronald R. Reeser of Shepherdstown, W.Va., and George T. Reeser of Williamsport; one sister, Ruby Tritapoe of Brunswick; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Dennis Eugene Reeser and several half-brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 21, at Gateway Church of God, Md. 68 and Kemps Mill Road, Williamsport, with the Revs. Alan Greijack, Wayne Gaines, Robert Timmons and Mark Brandau officiating.

Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.

Arrangements were handled by Osborne Funeral Home, Williamsport.

Mrs. Doris Johnson
Dated: Thursday, June 21, 2001.
Mrs. Doris L. Johnson, 88, of 6129 Md. 32, Clarksville, died Wednesday, June 20, at Shepherd's Choice, Gettysburg, Pa.

She was the wife of W.J. Bryan Johnson, who died in 1972.

Born April 20, 1913, in Dayton, she was a daughter of the late William and E. Pearl Howard Wettern.

Mrs. Johnson was a member of Linden Linthicum Methodist Church, Clarksville; the Clarksville Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary, and the Dayton Homemakers.

Surviving are two sons, Bud Selby of Scaggsville, and William B. Johnson of Clarksville; one daughter, E. Gail Crum of Fairfield, Pa.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 22, at Monahan Funeral Home, 27 E. Main St., Fairfield.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 23, at Linden Linthicum Methodist Church, Md. 108, Clarksville, with the Rev. Carter-Rimbach officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:30 a.m. until time of services.

Interment will be in Providence cemetery, Glenelg.

Memorial contributions may be made to Linden Linthicum Methodist Church, P.O. Box 165, Clarksville, Md. 21029.

Mrs. Doris Seebold
Dated: Thursday, June 21, 2001.
Mrs. Doris Virginia Lindner Seebold, 92, of Crestwood Village, Frederick, formerly of Silver Spring and Onancock, Va., died Tuesday, June 19, at Northampton Manor Nursing Home, Frederick.

She was the wife of Ralph MacDonald Seebold who died Feb. 22, 1999.

Born Nov. 13, 1908, in Washington, she was the youngest child of William A. and Sophia Mary Voigt Lindner.

Mrs. Seebold worked for a short time at National Geographic and at the Rockville Courthouse. Then, for 31 years, she worked for and retired as head bookkeeper and office manager for Mid-Atlantic Distributors in Washington.

She was active within the Episcopal Church. She first attended St. Columbus Episcopal Church in Washington, of which her family were founding members. In addition, she was a member of the Church of the Ascension in Silver Spring, the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Onancock, and most recently at All Saints Episcopal Church, Frederick. She had recently joined the Daughters of the King, an affiliation with All Saints.

Mrs. Seebold, with her husband and friends, enjoyed traveling.

Surviving are two daughters, Doris Quincy Bowyer and husband G. Randolph of Carefee, Ariz., and Joy MacDonald Peet and husband George S. of Frederick; five grandchildren, G. Solon Peet III and wife Andrea of Cave Creek, Ariz., Sophia Yancey and husband James of Frederick, Sonia J. Peet of New Market, Steele Bowyer of Long Beach, Calif., and TyRell Gallian and husband Richard of Cave Creek; and three great-grandchildren, Nicholas J. and Nathan P. Yancey, and Braxtan R. Gallian.

There will be no visitation or calling at the funeral home.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, June 25, at All Saints Episcopal Church, 106 W. Church St., Frederick. The Rev. Scott Philip Bellows, assisted by Deacon Thomas Claggett, will officiate.

Inurnment will be in the church's columbarium at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to All Saints Episcopal Church Building Fund, 108 W. Church St., Frederick, Md. 21701.

Arrangements are by Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, Frederick.

Mrs. Lillie Keyser
Dated: Thursday, June 21, 2001.
Mrs. Lillie May Keyser, 97, of Hessong Bridge Road, Frederick, died Tuesday, June 19, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

She was the wife of Walter R. Keyser, who died November 1977.

Born Feb. 11, 1904, in Frederick County, she was a daughter of the late Grayson H. and Cora Stull Ramsburg.

Mrs. Keyser was an active member of Faith United Church of Christ, Charlesville.

Prior to her retirement in December 1969, she was employed as a seamstress for 48 years with local manufacturing firms, including Muse Tailoring Co. and Sagner's Inc. She started working in October 1921 for Schloss Bros.

Mrs. Keyser enjoyed quilting, gardening, and working in her rose garden during her retirement.

Surviving are one son, William G. Keyser and wife Barbara A. of Frederick; four grandchildren, Tamara Keyser, Kevin Keyser and wife Patty, Lori Keller and husband Jon, and Steven Keyser; five great-grandchildren, Logan, Josh and Olivia Keller, and Garrett and Eryn Keyser; one stepgrandchild, Lisa Hamilton and husband Michael; two step-great-grandchildren, Lindsey and Annie Hamilton; one brother, Spencer L. Ramsburg; and one sister, Charlotte S. Young.

Mrs. Keyser will also be remembered by her granddaughter Tamara's companion, Robert Armstrong.

Mrs. Keyser was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters, Grace Cramer, Nora Ramsburg, Ethel Ramsburg, Edith Ramsburg, Mildred Soper, Emory Ramsburg, Glenn Ramsburg and Harold Ramsburg; and a daughter-in-law, Patricia Keyser.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 21, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 22, in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Marilyn Washburn, of Faith United Church of Christ, officiating.

Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith United Church of Christ, 9333 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, Md. 21702.

Mrs. Iva Roberson
Dated: Thursday, June 21, 2001.
Mrs. Iva Jane Ruffner Roberson, 97, of Dickerson, died Tuesday, June 19, at Shady Grove Nursing Center, Rockville.

She was the wife of Frank Roberson, who died in 1951.

Born Feb. 20, 1904, in Luray, Va., she was a daughter of the late Joshua and Eva Collins Ruffner.

She was a member of Dickerson United Methodist Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Eva Brooks of Gaithersburg; one son, Donald Roberson of Florida; one sister, Ruth Viers of West Virginia; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Winona Roberson; two sons, Frank and Roland Roberson; six brothers, Kay, Fred, Banks, Roland, Bernard and Jack Ruffner; and two sisters, Maxine White and Geraldine Dorsey.

Family will receive friends Thursday, June 21, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Road, Barnesville.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, June 22, at the funeral home. The Rev. Stan Zimmerman, of Dickerson United Methodist Church, will officiate.

Interment will be in Monocacy cemetery, Beallsville.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dickerson United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 66, Dickerson, Md. 20842.
