Mr. Joseph Barishek
Dated: Thursday, April 12, 2001.
Mr. Joseph John Barishek, 79, of 815 Stratford Drive, Frederick, formerly of College Park and more recently of Lewes, Del., died Tuesday evening, April 10, at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore.

He was the husband of Rosemary O'Hagan Barishek, his wife of 55 years.

Born March 10, 1922, in Philadelphia, Pa., he was a son of the late Jules and Anelia Barishek.

Mr. Barishek was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Marine Corps.

He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Frederick, and a former member of St. Jude's Roman Catholic Church, Lewes, where he served as an usher.

Mr. Barishek was also a member of AMVETS Post 2, Frederick; Marine League; Francis Scott Key American Legion Post 11, Frederick; and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Lewes.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Carol Rollison and husband Del of Middletown, and Linda McNabb and husband Jerry of Flint, Mich.; five grandchildren, Michelle Gamba and husband John of Frederick, Micheal Rollison of Baltimore, Jennifer McNabb of Boulder, Colo., Jane McNabb of Belleville, Mich., and Justin Rollison and wife Kimberly of College Park; two great-grandchildren, Owen and Cole Gamba; and four brothers and sisters, Olga Zaiko, Elsie Oliver, John Barishek and wife Mary, and Michael Barishek, all of Philadelphia.

Mr. Barishek will also be remembered by his grandson Micheal's fiancee, Dana Maher of Baltimore.

Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, April 16, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 116 E. Second St., Frederick, with the Rev. Keith Boisvert as celebrant.

Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Brain Tumor Association, 2720 River Road, Suite 146, Des Plaines, Ill. 60018-4117.

Mr. J. Preston Myers
Dated: Thursday, April 12, 2001.
Mr. J. Preston Myers, 85, of Westminster, formerly of Mayberry, died Wednesday, April 11, at his home.

He was the husband of Mary Formwalt Myers, his wife of 62 years.

Born March 22, 1916, in Mount Pleasant, he was a son of the late William H. and Effie Warehime Myers.

Mr. Myers was employed by Glen L. Martin Co., then Cambridge Rubber Co., and later retired from the State Highway Administration after 20 years of service.

He was a member of Emmanuel Baust United Church of Christ, the Gettysburg Moose Lodge, and American Association of Retired Persons. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, camper and outdoorsman.

Mr. Myers was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1945-46.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, John P. Myers Jr. and wife Margaret of Westminster, and James P. Myers and wife Amy of Mount Airy; two sisters, Helen Selby of Harney, and Lillie Baker of Wigglestown, Pa.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Mr. Myers was preceded in death by one sister, Mary King; and three brothers, Thurmond, Sterling and Melvin Myers.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 13, at Pritts Funeral Home, 412 Washington Road, Westminster.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at the funeral home, with Mr. Myers' pastor, the Rev. Gerald D. Fuss, officiating.

Interment will be in Meadow Branch cemetery, Westminster.

Memorial donations may be made to Emmanuel Baust United Church of Christ, 2950 Old Taneytown Road, Westminster, Md. 21158.

Mrs. Judy Harbaugh
Dated: Friday, June 8, 2001.
Mrs. Judy Ann Harbaugh, 38, of Waynesboro Pike, Fairfield, Pa., died Wednesday, June 6, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

She was the wife of Raymond Charles Harbaugh II, whom she married Nov. 4, 1988.

Born Feb. 21, 1963, in Gettysburg, Pa., she was the daughter of Walter Henry Biser of Thurmont and the late Doris Jean Sponseller Biser.

She was a self-employed graphic designer working as Judy A. Harbaugh and Associates.

She was a 1981 graduate of Catoctin High School and a 1986 graduate of the Maryland Institute of Arts.

Surviving in addition to her husband and father are one son, Nathan Charles Harbaugh, at home; one daughter, Toni Marie Harbaugh, at home; one brother, Gus Biser and wife Sally of Thurmont; one nephew, Chris M. Emert of Thurmont, and one niece, Meagan R. Cowden of Mercersburg, Pa.

She was preceded in death by one brother, James D. Biser in 1994.

The family will receive friends at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main St., Thurmont from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, June 9.

Funeral services and interment will be private.

Mrs. Pamela Langan
Dated: Saturday, June 9, 2001.
Mrs. Pamela Sue Langan, 41, of Walkersville, died Thursday, June 7, at her home.

She was the wife of Ian Grant McGregor Langan. They were married nearly 18 years.

Born June 26, 1959, in Olney, she was a daughter of John Bart and Betty McMillion Marschik and husband Herman, all of Rockville.

Mrs. Langan was employed as a proof operator for FCNB Bank.

She attended Walkersville United Methodist Church.

In addition to her husband, mother and father, she is survived by one son, Bradley Allen Swift of Olney; one brother, Michael Bart of Poolesville; and one niece, Christina Bart.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, George and Marie McMillion.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 40 Fulton Ave., Walkersville, where the family will receive friends two hours prior to services. Her pastors, Albert K. Lane III and Jennifer K. Weddle, will officiate.

Interment will be in Pine Grove cemetery, Mount Airy.

Mrs. Barbara Laney
Dated: Saturday, June 9, 2001.
Mrs. Barbara L. Laney, 48, of Germantown, died Thursday, June 4, at her home.

She was the wife of Rodney W. Laney.

Born July 7, 1952, in Olney, she was a daughter of Paul and Bernice Boxall Allen of Gaithersburg.

Mrs. Laney was a graduate of Gaithersburg High School. She had worked as an accountant for the Management Group Association in Gaithersburg until she retired because of ill health.

She was a member of the Flower Hill Church of the Brethren in Redland. She enjoyed gardening and reading.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is survived by one daughter, Lisa Runyon of Gaithersburg; one stepson, Brian Laney of Ohio; two stepgrandchildren, Ryan and Samarra Laney of Ohio; and one sister, Paula Hoke of Gaithersburg.

Funeral services will be held at noon, Tuesday, June 12, at Flower Hill Church of the Brethren, 7412 Muncaster Mill Road, Gaithersburg, where friends may visit with the family from 10 a.m. until time of the services.

Interment was in church cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or the American Cancer Foundation.

Arrangements are by Muriel H. Barber Funeral Home, Laytonsville.

Mr. Lawrence Gallagher Jr.
Dated: Saturday, June 9, 2001.
Mr. Lawrence Kirby Gallagher Jr., 70, of Frederick, formerly a longtime resident of Wheaton, died Sunday, May 27, at a hospital in Savannah, Ga., after a stroke. He was stricken aboard an airplane as he returned to Washington from a vacation in Florida.

He was the husband of Mary Beth Engert Gallagher, his wife of 48 years.

Mr. Gallagher was born in Washington and attended Coolidge High School. He joined the Navy after high school and served aboard a submarine during the Korean War. Later, he served in the Navy Reserves.

He attended the University of Maryland, where he played on the football team. He was a District police officer from 1955 to 1967, then went into insurance work and eventually worked as a contract investigator for the Federal Emergency Management Agency's flood program for about 20 years before retiring in 1998.

He was a member of St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church in Wheaton, and was a sports coach for teams in its Catholic Youth Organization program.

Surviving in addition to his wife are eight children, Kirby Gallagher of Newburyport, Mass., Jerry Gallagher of Severna Park, Kathleen Bowers and Maureen Reges, both of Gaithersburg, Brian Gallagher of Olney, Sean and Kevin Gallagher, both of Frederick, and Brigid Stokes of Germantown; and 25 grandchildren.

Interment was in Arlington National cemetery on Thursday, June 7.

Mrs. Mary Cooley
Dated: Monday, June 11, 2001.
Mrs. Mary Lizzie Cooley, 87, of Dickerson, died on Thursday, June 7, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

She was the wife of the late Herbert Cooley.

Born Dec. 6, 1913, in Montezuma, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Willie Howard and Ethel Short Jordan.

She is survived by three nephews, Willie Jordan and James Jordan, both of Andersonville, Ga., and Gary Jordan of Smithville, Ga.; and two nieces, Mary Rigby Martin of Atlanta, and Grace Rigby of Chattanooga, Tenn.

She will also be remembered by the Bo Carlisle family of Dickerson; and a close friend, Susie Bodmer.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Henry Jordan; and one sister, Merle Rigby.

The family will receive friends Monday, June 11, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Road, Barnesville.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Monocacy cemetery, Beallsville.

Ms. Tracy Paul
Dated: Monday, June 11, 2001.
Ms. Tracy Dawn Paul, 38, of Penn Shop Road, Mount Airy, died Thursday, June 7, at R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

Born April 6, 1963, in Virginia, she was a daughter of Shirley J. Snyder Austin of Warwick, R.I.

She was employed as an administrative assistant for SFA Frederick Manufacturing.

She had two associate of arts degrees from the Community College of Rhode Island, in science and business science.

She enjoyed riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles and country western dancing.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by one son, Justin Paul of Mount Airy; five siblings, Deborah Leech, Wendy Fortin, Charles Austin and Donna Shaw, all of Rhode Island, and her twin sister, Theresa Bader of Maine; five nieces; two nephews; and an aunt and uncle, Buddy and Lucy Sprouse of Virginia Beach, Va., and their extended family.

She will also be remembered her friends, David Verdone and Wallace F. Banach.

The family will receive friends Monday, June 11, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1612 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.

Memorial services will be held at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, at Salem United Methodist Church, 2057 Salem Road, Virginia Beach.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. in Good Shepherd Mausoleum of Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, East Virginia Beach Boulevard, Virginia Beach.

Mrs. Mary Selby
Dated: Monday, June 11, 2001.
Mrs. Mary Clementine "Tine" or "Clemmie" Selby, 102, died Saturday, June 9, at Carroll Lutheran Village, Westminster.

She was born Dec. 24, 1898, in Lisbon, the daughter of the late Howard C. and Mary C. Hobbs Selby.

She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Poplar Springs.

She loved to crochet and play cards.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews in Carroll and Frederick counties, Delaware, Tennessee, Texas and Michigan. Her closest surviving niece, Belle Holt, also is of Carroll Lutheran Village.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 11, at 11 a.m. at Krug Chapel at Carroll Lutheran Village. Viewing will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. Pastor Jimmie Schwartz of Carroll Lutheran Village and Pastor John Wilber of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Poplar Springs, will officiate.

Interment will be in McKendre cemetery, Cooksville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 16457 Old Frederick Road, or to Carroll Lutheran Village, 205 St. Mark Way, Westminster, Md. 21158.

Arrangements are by Burrier-Queen Funeral Home, Winfield.
