Ms. Joyce James

Ms. Joyce Diane Tenly James, 48, of Gaithersburg, died Sunday, April 8, at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, Rockville.

Born March 14, 1953, in Frederick, she was a daughter of Mary Jane Briggs, and the late Lenwood Tenly.

Surviving in addition to her mother are two daughters, Carey L. James Couto and husband Claudio, and Jennifer A. Mason of husband Charles; her stepfather, Arthur Briggs; one sister, Connie Liller and husband Lee; four brothers, Wayne Tenly and wife DeDe, Butch Tenly, Doug Tenly, and Mike Tenly and wife Sandy; one stepbrother, Robert Briggs and wife Maria; and two grandchildren, Karina and Charles.

Ms. James will also be remembered by her companion, Bobby Johnson.

Friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 12, at Pumphrey's Funeral Home, 300 W. Montgomery Ave., Rockville, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 13.

Interment will be in Rockville cemetery, Rockville.

Mr. James Pantazis
Dated: Wednesday, April 11, 2001.
Mr. James Peter Pantazis, 89, of Rehoboth Beach, Del., died Tuesday, April 10, at his home.

He was the husband of Mary Pantazis.

Mr. Pantazis was a long-time resident of the Washington area. He retired to Rehoboth Beach in 1993.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters, Joy Troop of Lewes, Del., Donna Moore and husband Timothy of Ijamsville, and Florence Anderson of Fairfax, Va.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, at Parsell Funeral Home, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 1449 Kings Highway, Lewes, Del.

Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday, April 12, at St. George's Greek Orthodox Church, Ocean Highway and Pacific Avenue, Ocean City.

Interment will be in Delaware Veterans cemetery, Georgetown, Del.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. George's Greek Orthodox Church or to St. Sophia Cathedral, Washington, D.C.

Mrs. Peggy Hardy
Dated: Thursday, April 12, 2001.
Mrs. Peggy Christina Hardy, 69, of Hopeland Road, Frederick, died Monday, April 9, at her home.

Born May 12, 1931, in Frederick, she was a daughter of the late Lloyd and Marie Brown.

Mrs. Hardy was a 1948 graduate of Lincoln High School, Frederick.

She was employed as a doctor's assistant for more than 30 years for several black doctors in the Frederick area.

She was a lifetime member of Hopehill United Methodist Church, where she served as church historian, president of the United Methodist Women, and a member of the administrative board, and nomination and finance committees.

Mrs. Hardy enjoyed hosting friends and family in her home. She also enjoyed baking, making ceramic figures, gardening and crossword puzzles. She will be remembered as "Noot" by her friends.

Surviving are three daughters, Debra Campbell-Addison and husband Alphonse Addison Jr., Anna M. Hardy, all of Frederick, and Brenda C. Hardy of Baltimore; three sons, James C. Hardy III and Gary W. Brown and wife Kimberly, all of Frederick, and Jerome L. Brown and wife Tammy of Edmond, Okla.; one brother-in-law, Thomas Ambush Sr. of Frederick; two sisters-in-law, Mildred Brown and Delores Brown, both Frederick; eight grandchildren, Namar Luby, Thomas Campbell IV, Jaime Cromwell, Justin Brown, Travis Hebron, Wade Brown, Daniel Brown and Alphonse Addison III; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.

Mrs. Hardy will also be remembered by her godchild, Stephanie Brown; and her friends Delores Naylor, Leona Siscoe, Rachel Mason and Patricia Hill Gaither.

Mrs. Hardy was preceded in death by four brothers, Daniel Brown, Norman Brown, Harold Brown Sr. and Jerome Brown; and two sisters, Marie Proctor and Jean Ambush.

Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Friday, April 13, at Gary L. Rollins Funeral Home, 110 W. South St., Frederick. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14, at Hopehill United Methodist Church, Fingerboard Road, with Mrs. Hardy's pastor, the Rev. Erma A. Ambush, officiating.

Interment will be in Hopehill cemetery, Park Mills Road.

Mrs. Kathleen Lehker
Dated: Thursday, April 12, 2001.
Mrs. Kathleen June Lehker, 60, of Walkersville, died Monday, April 9, at her home after a long battle with cancer.

She was the wife of John Norman Lehker, who died Sept. 28, 1989. They were married Aug. 11, 1962, in South Bend, Ind.

Born June 1, 1940, in Hartford City, Ind., she was a daughter of Robert Francis and Dorothy Madeline Landon Knecht of North Liberty, Ind.

Mrs. Lehker was a 1962 graduate of Ball State University, Muncie, Ind., with a bachelor's degree in medical technology. She worked at Shady Grove Hospital for over 20 years.

She had lived with her family in Walkersville since 1979, and was an active member of St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church. She was a volunteer in her church and community for many years and was a conservationist, environmentalist and an advocate for human rights.

She enjoyed traveling, reading, art and crossword puzzles.

Surviving in addition to her parents are three children, Michael John Lehker of Washington, Thomas Andrew Lehker of Frederick, and Kathryn Elizabeth Lehker of Walkersville; three sisters; and two brothers.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, April 15, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 40 Fulton Ave., Walkersville. A prayer service will begin at 8:30 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, April 16, at St. Timothy Catholic Church, 8651 Biggs Ford Road, Walkersville, with the Rev. Richard J. Murphy as the celebrant.

Interment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Frederick County, 516 Trail Ave., Frederick, Md. 21701; St. Timothy Catholic Church, 200 Glade Blvd., Walkersville, Md. 21793; or to American Cancer Society, 1393 Progress Way, Suite 908, Eldersburg, Md. 21784.

Mr. John Dinterman Jr.
Dated: Thursday, April 12, 2001.
Mr. John Albert Dinterman Jr., 59, of Frederick, died Wednesday, April 11, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Born April 1, 1942, in Frederick, he was a son of the late John Albert and Ella May Wetzel Dinterman.

Mr. Dinterman was employed as a construction worker with Frederick Contractors.

He was graduated from Walkersville High School in 1961.

He enjoyed duck pin bowling, reading and video games.

Surviving are one brother Laurance W. Dinterman of Frederick; one sister, Darlene R. Dinterman of Frederick; one niece, Renee D. Dinterman of Frederick; an aunt, Lola Wetzel of Glen Burnie; and two cousins, Patty Freed of Glen Burnie and Joseph Wetzel of Maryland.

Following cremation, graveside funeral services will be held at a later date in Union Chapel cemetery, Libertytown.

Arrangements are by Stauffer Funeral Home, Frederick.

Mrs. Hazel Dade
Dated: Friday, April 13, 2001.
Mrs. Hazel Louise Cawood Dade, 94, a longtime resident of Jefferson, died Thursday, April 12, at Vindobona Nursing Home, Braddock Heights.

She was the wife of Maurice Lee Dade, who died Monday, April 9, 2001. The couple had been married 73 years.

Born in Spring City, Tenn., she was a daughter of the late William Edgar and Florence Ingle Cawood.

In addition to keeping house and raising the family, Mrs. Dade worked on the dairy farm with her husband.

She was a member of Jefferson United Methodist Church, and had taught in the Sunday school. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women.

Surviving are two children, Joyce Remsburg and husband Merhl, and Stanley Dade and wife Alma, all of Jefferson; five grandchildren, Marilyn Young, Jody Rood, Leasa Mercer, Joe Dade and Vickie Dade; four great-grandchildren, Sarah Readon, Dusty Rood, Dallas Rood and Katie Renner; a great-great-grandson, Henry Readon; three stepgrandchildren, Ann Beauchamp, Julie Rice and Jamelyn Snoots; and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Matthew and Dawna Beauchamp.

Mrs. Dade will also be remembered by her caregivers, Polly Matthews and Margie Hedges.

Mrs. Dade was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl W. and Kenneth G. Cawood; and one sister, Elena C. Boyd.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 13, at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 14, at the funeral home with Mrs. Dade's pastor, the Rev. Lori M. Hoffman of Jefferson United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Jefferson United Methodist Church 3882 Jefferson Pike, Jefferson, or Jefferson Ambulance Co., P.O. Box 578, Jefferson Md. 21755.

Miss Nicole Brown
Dated: Friday, April 13, 2001.
Miss Nicole Danielle Brown, 31, of Brunswick, died Tuesday, April 10, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Born Sept. 25, 1969, she was a daughter of Jessie Brown Almond of Brunswick, and Martin Lewis of Philadelphia.

Miss Brown was employed as a massage therapist at the Alpine Spa.

She was a new member of Sanctuary Progressive Community Church.

Surviving in addition to her parents are one daughter, Marquisha Watts of Brunswick; one son, Jamal Watts of Brunswick; two brothers, Russell Almond Jr. and Nathaniel Ray, both of Frederick; four sisters, Mikea and Ikea Bowie, both of Frederick, and Melissa Hurley and Maria Hurley, both of Philadelphia; two stepfathers, Tobias Ray of Frederick, and Russell Almond Sr. of Mount Olive, N.C.; a number of uncles, including Jerri Hatten and wife Jackie, and Hiawatha J. Brown and wife Tawanda, all of Philadelphia, and Clayton Brown and wife Gwynn of Fayetteville, N.C.; a number of aunts, including Bobbie Hinton and Sandra Brown, both of Philadelphia; a number of cousins, including Louise and Denita, both of Philadelphia, and Marilyn, Malika and Sylvia, all Springfield, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

Miss Brown will also be remembered by her friends, Toriea Boyce, Rhonda Ballard, Donna Poole and Elizabeth Gonzales, all of Frederick; and Michon Battle of Virginia.

Miss Brown was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Hiawatha James Sr. and Artie Mae Brown; paternal grandmother, Ruby Lewis; and an uncle, Nathaniel Brown.

Public viewing will be held from 11 a.m. until noon, and the family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Monday, April 16, at Sanctuary Progressive Community Church, 206 E. Fourth St., Frederick.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Constance C. Wheeler officiating.

Interment will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, in Fernwood cemetery, Philadelphia.

Arrangements are by Gary L. Rollins Funeral Home, Frederick.

Mr. Richard Stouffer Sr.
Dated: Friday, April 13, 2001.
Mr. Richard George Stouffer Sr., 72, of 3888 Wilderness Drive, Union Bridge, died Wednesday, April 11, at his home, after an extended illness.

He was the husband of Edith Nickoles Stouffer, his wife of 48 years.

Born Aug. 9, 1928, in Frizzellburg, he was the son of the late George and Mary Gonder Stouffer.

He served in the Merchant Marines and then in the U.S. Army for two tours of duty during the Korean War.

He was formerly employed for 23 years with the Carroll County Board of Education as a custodian at the former Westminster High School, then East Middle School and retired from Sandymount Elementary School in 1990 as head custodian.

He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8806, Union Bridge, and a member of Hesson-Snider American Legion Post 120, Taneytown.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Patsy Bauerlien and husband Roy, and Karen Bauerlein and husband Jack, all of Westminster, Barbara Black and husband Charles, and Debbie Hill and husband Wayne, all of New Windsor; three sons, Richard Stouffer Jr. and wife Patty Short of New Windsor, James Stouffer and wife Sharon of Keymar, and Michael Stouffer and wife Kris of Gamber; one sister, Eleanor Crawmer of Westminster; one brother, Robert Stouffer of Keymar; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Scattergood; and one brother Gerald Stouffer Sr.

The family will receive friends at Hartzler Funeral Home, 6 E. Broadway, Union Bridge, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, April 14. Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. by Hesson-Snider American Legion Post 120.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, April 16, at the funeral home.

The family requests contributions be made in his memory to Carroll Hospice, 95 Carroll St., Westminster, Md. 21157.
