Mrs. Virginia Dashiell

Virginia Trout Dashiell, 82, of Frederick, beloved wife of Thomas R. Dashiell, died at her Newport News residence Monday, Aug. 20, 2007.

She graduated from Drexel University with a Bachelor of Science in home economics, and was a Baltimore County teacher and a substitute teacher for the Frederick County school systems.-- She was an active member of the Frederick County Homemakers Club, a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, Parkton Chapter and Calvary United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband and is survived by her sister, Margaret McClain; her children, Thomas M. Dashiell and Tina Dashiell Roth; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.--

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25 at Mount Olivet cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, Brain Injury Association of America or MS Society.

Amory Funeral Home, Grafton, Va., is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Mildred Easterday

Mildred G. "Woody" Jones Easterday, 83, of North Main Street, Boonsboro, passed away peacefully and went home to be with her Lord Saturday, August 18 at Washington County Hospital.

Born June 27, 1924 in Fairplay, she was the daughter of the late John H. and Irene Mae Mongan Jones.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Robert S. Easterday, March 23, 1994.

She was a homemaker and a volunteer at Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro.

She was a lifetime member of Mt. Briar Church of God in Keedysville.

She is survived by her son, Robert E. Easterday and wife Patricia of Boonsboro; granddaughter, Kristine E. McGee and husband, Jeffrey of Keedysville; great-granddaughter, Leah J. Easterday of Boonsbor and great-grandson, Zachary A. McGee at home; sisters, Evelyn Byers and Freda Dayton both of Fairplay; and sister-in-law, Rachel Leggett of Hagerstown.

She was preceded in death by grandson, Darin R. Easterday; sister, Betty "Jane" Garrish; and brothers, Edgar "Bob" Jones, John Jones, Maynard "Tom" Jones, Richard "Mike" Jones, Eugene "Ol Man" Jones and William "Sneak" Jones.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 21 at Bast Funeral Home in Boonsboro. The Rev. Joseph C. Burdette, Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, MD Office, 800 Wyman Park Drive, Suite 110, Baltimore, MD 21211.

Mr. Dewey Meadow

Dewey Francine "Ciney" Meadows, 70, of Shepherdstown, W.Va., passed away on Wednesday, August 15, at his residence.

He was born September 13, 1936, at Harpers Ferry, and was the son of the late Solomon Dewey Meadows and Vontella Marie Foster Meadows.

He was of the Methodist faith.

He was a retired Computer Operations Coordinator for the federal government.

He was a member of Logan Lodge # 25 A.F. & A.M. Harpers Ferry, Ali Ghan Shrine Cumberland, Loyal Order of the Moose 948 Charles Town, SAL member Funkstown Post 211, Kentucky Colonels, Cherry River Navy of W.Va., and was a passionate Redskins fan and perpetual season ticket holder.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Beverly Axline Meadows at home; one daughter, Kimberly Rae Grossman, and husband, Mark of Carmel, Ind.; one son, Kirk Dewey Meadows, and wife, Lori Ann, of Shepherdstown; one brother, Lewis E. Meadows of Shenandoah Junction; one sister, Doris Meadows Johnson of Laurel; four grandchildren, Matthew Clark Grossman, Kate Elizabeth Grossman, Mason Dewey Meadows and Alaina Elizabeth Meadows.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Elizabeth Meadows Kowalski.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 20, at the Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, US 340 at Halltown Road, Charles Town/Harpers Ferry, W.Va., with the Rev. Dr. Parker Hinzman officiating.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shepherdstown Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box F, Shepherdstown, WV 25443, or to the Bethesda United Methodist Church, c/o Dr. Parker Hinzman, 3415 Kearneysville Pike, Shepherdstown, WV 25443.

Mrs. Patricia Chambers

Patricia Chambers, nee Murray, died July 15 at Somerford Place in Frederick, from brain cancer (glioblastoma multiforme). She had lived in Frederick County for the past 35 years.

Born in the Mother Lode's capital, Placerville, Calif., Pat came from a Californio family descended from Eulalia PŽrez de GuillŽn MarinŽ (1766-1878) of San Gabriel Mission. She received a Bachelor of Arts in history from the University of California at Berkeley in 1959. She married the son of Whittaker Chambers in Washington in 1961.

Pat moved in 1972 to Tuckahoe Farm in Middletown, where she raised three children. Divorced in 1987, she moved to Frederick. She worked at The Frederick News-Post in Advertising, then managed Sound Source. As part of Sound Source, she published The Frederick County Weather Almanac. Her work won awards for both advertising and the almanac. After retirement, she became a tour guide at Rose Hill Manor until May 2007.

During her 35 years in Frederick County, Pat gave of herself to the community in her work and on numerous boards, including the Frederick Arts Council, the Maryland Regional Ballet, St. John's Catholic Prep ("Prospect Hall"), the St. John's Graveyard Committee, and the Frederick Art Club (first vice president 2005-2006, second vice president 2006-2007). She was an avid member of Frederick's League of Women Voters and Torch Club.

Compassionate, open and upright, Pat Chambers was a mother and friend to any and all.

Survivors include her sister, Moira Murray DeWilde; children, David Chambers, Joseph Chambers and Moira Chambers Aveline; grandchildren, Michael Alexander Chambers, Raphael Pascal Rossant Chambers, Sophia Adela Chambers and Alexander Aveline; and nieces and nephew, John R. DeWilde III, Jennifer DeWilde Eubanks and Christina DeWilde Prescott.

Pat's family is holding a memorial, open to the public, at 5 p.m. Sunday, July 29, at Rose Hill Manor. Dress for summer. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the "Rose Hill Manor Fund" online or by check at the memorial. See details online at www.patmchambers.org. Mr. Robert Dix

Robert D. Dix, 79, of Frederick, formerly of Boynton Beach, Fla., passed away on Saturday, October 13, 2007, at his residence at Edenton Retirement Community in Frederick.

He was born on March 22, 1928, in Tunkhannock, Pa., and was the son of the late Frank A. Dix and Gertrude V. Barney.

He is survived by his brother, Frank A. Dix and wife Audre; niece, Diane D. Chandler and husband Carol, all of Simpsonville, S.C.; nephew, F. Allan Dix and wife Kathy, of State College, Pa., and nephew, Ronald R. Robinson and wife, Carol, of Millsboro, Del., formerly of Mount Airy. He is also survived by numerous great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Gertrude M. Robinson.

Bob enlisted in the Navy at age 16 in March 1944 and retired as a Lieutenant Commander in January 1970. He served in Korea, China, Japan, the Dominican Republic and Vietnam.

After retiring from the Navy, Bob resided in Arlington, Va., where he obtained a BS degree from George Washington University in 1971. He then moved to Boynton Beach, where he lived for over 20 years. He traveled extensively and worked for a while as a travel agent in Florida. He was a history buff, loved to read, and collected maps from all over the world.

He moved to Frederick in 2005 to avoid the Florida hurricanes and be closer to family. He was a member of VFW Post 3285, BPOE. Lodge 684, AMVETS Post 2, American Legion Post 11, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles AERIE No. 1067.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at Wyoming cemetery in Wyoming, Pa.

Miss Claudia Law

Miss Claudia M. Law, 23, of Frederick, died Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at the Johns Hopkins University Hospital, Baltimore.

Born December 18, 1983 in St. Louis, Mo., she was the daughter of Clyde and Bonita Richmond Law.

Claudia was a student at Frederick Community College. She previously worked at Homewood at Crumland Farms and Northampton Care Center. She enjoyed being with her friends, shopping and having good times.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by a brother, Don Law of Fulton, Mo., and a sister, Melinda Law of Frederick; a niece, Dawn M. Law and two nephews, Justin Law and Jonathan Nichols, of Columbia, Mo.; her maternal grandmother, Patty Richmond; her uncles and aunts, Arthur Lynn and Trudy Richmond, Robert Richmond, Alonzo and Ann Richmond, all of Fulton, Mo., Dorris and Cheryl Richmond, of Gig Harbor, Wash., Sherrie Richmond-Jackson, Lynn and Linda May, all of Kansas City, Mo., Lance and Ruby Gardiner of Nashville, Tenn., Udell Warren and Shirley Vaughn, all of Fulton, Mo.; and a host of cousins, great aunts and uncles.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 19 at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Road, Frederick. Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 22, at the Debo Funeral Home in Fulton, Mo.

Interment Callaway Memorial Gardens, Fulton, Mo.

Mrs. Rebekah Shafer

Mrs. Rebekah Ramsburg Sunday Shafer, 92, of Frederick, died on Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at the Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center.

She was the wife of the late Lemuel Dutrow Shafer, who died in 2004. She was born on March 11, 1915, near Hansonville, and she was a daughter of the late Clinton Reverdy and Elsie Irene Ramsburg Shafer.

Mrs. Shafer was a homemaker for most of her life and a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she had been a Sunday School teacher. She was also a member of the Charlesville Homemakers Club.

Surviving her is a daughter, Nancy R. Routzahn and husband Rudy, of Frederick; one brother, Lewis D. Shafer and wife Margaret, of Frederick; two grandsons, Heath A. Routzahn and wife Lisa, and Chad S. Routzahn and wife Michele, all of Frederick; five great grandchildren, Samantha R., Rebekah N., Alexis M., Sophia M. and Blake A. Routzahn; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Harold H. Sunday, and one sister, Katherine S. Price.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 19, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20, in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. The Rev. Dr. David G. Oravec, pastor of Evangelical Lutheran Church, will officiate. Interment will be in the Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Heath A. Routzahn and Chad S. Routzahn and nephews, Stephen Sunday, Kenneth Sunday, Douglas Sunday and Paul Sunday.

Mrs. Laura Whittington

Mrs. Laura Lillian Whittington, 90, of Emmitsburg, died on Wednesday October 17, 2007 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the husband of the late Vaun Whittington of California. She was born in 1916 in Topeka, Kansas. She was the daughter of the late Allen Hays and Glen Lillian Chick.

She spent most of her life in Torrance, Calif., where she was a food services manager for the school district.

She is survived by her four children, son, William Whittington and his wife Jill, of Frederick, daughter Glenda Drum and her husband James, of Damariscotta, Maine, daughter Shelley Conrad and her husband James, of Zenia, Calif., and son Richard Whittington of Oroville, Calif. Also survived by 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband Mrs. Whittington was preceded in death by her brother Barnabas Allen Hays, of Kansas, and a granddaughter Teri Whittington, of California.

She will be greatly missed by her friends at Lincoln on the Park in Emmitsburg, including Doris Joy and Jean Parks, also by her good friend Janet Cool of Fairfield, Pa.

Services and interment will be private. The family suggest that those desiring make memorial contributions to the Emmitsburg Osteopathic Primary Care Center, P. O. Box 1219, Emmitsburg, MD 21727.

Mr. Edward Conway

Mr. Edward Michael Conway, 67, of Emmitsburg, died Thursday, October 18 at the Gettysburg Hospital, Gettysburg, Pa. He was the husband of Patricia L. Adams Conway, whom he married October 3, 1959.

Born October 4, 1940 in Rose Valley, Wallingford, Pa., he was a son of the late Joseph P. and Margaret Battle Conway.

Mr. Conway attended St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Emmitsburg. He was an Environmental Manager at Metlfab Inc. in Frederick for 24 years.

Surviving besides his wife is a daughter, Deborah M. McGuigan, of Frederick; three sons, Owen J. Conway and wife Peggy, of Sugar Tree, Tenn., Michael L. Conway of Emmitsburg, and Dennis P. Conway and wife Belinda, of Keymar; twelve grandchildren, Mathew, James, Amanda, Pam, Ellie, Jackie, Karen and twins Shawn and Pat Conway, Andrea McGuigan, Sarah and A.J. Gertenbach; two sisters, Nancy Borneman and husband Jack, of Waynesboro, Pa., and Polly Parchinski of Wallingford, Pa.; and one brother, Dick Conway and wife Linda, of New Castle, Del.

Mr. Conway is at the Robert E. Dailey & Son Funeral Homes, 615 East Main Street, Thurmont, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. The rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. at the funeral home on Friday.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20 at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 100 North Seton Avenue, Emmitsburg, with Reverend Stephen Trzecieski as the celebrant.

Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.

The family requests that memorials be made in memory of Mr. Conway to the American Heart Association-Mid-Atlantic Affiliate, Memorials & Tributes Processing Center, PO Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058-5216.

Mr. Richard Grinder

Mr. E. Richard "Dutch" Grinder, 76, of Union Bridge, died Sunday, November 11, 2007 at Carroll Hospice Dove House after an illness of one year.--

Born September 22, 1931 in Union Bridge, he was the son of the late Maurice Lee and Lula Mae Hooper Grinder.--

He was the husband of Betty Frock Grinder, his wife of 46 years.--Mr. Grinder was a 1948 graduate of Elmer A. Wolfe High School, Union Bridge.--He was of the Lutheran faith.--He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was employed for 42 years with Lehigh Portland Cement Company, Union Bridge.--He was a member and past commander of V.F.W. Post. 8806, Union Bridge; a life member and trustee of Littlestown Eagles Aerie 2226; life member of the Sportsman's Club of Blue Ridge Summit; life member of Glenn W. Eyler American Legion Post, Woodsboro and a life member of the Union Bridge Volunteer Fire Company.--Dutch enjoyed golf and spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters, Carol Ann Tighe of Union Bridge and Kim Crouch and husband, John, of Walkersville; three grandchildren, Rachel Lambert, Edward Crouch and Emma Crouch; two great-grandchildren, Summar and Bailey Quesenberry; a sister, Vivian Haines of Union Bridge and a brother-in-law, Calvin Hoy of Union Bridge; and nieces and nephews.--He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucilla Crawmer and Arlene Hoy and a brother, Cleatus Grinder.--

A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, November 15 at Hartzler Funeral Home, 6 E. Broadway, Union Bridge, with Rev. Richard L. Michael, pastor of St. James Lutheran Church, Union Bridge, and Mr. Virgil Cain, Lutheran seminarian, officiating.--Interment will be in Mountain View cemetery, Union Bridge.--The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14 at the funeral home.--In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. James Lutheran Church, P.O.
