Mr. Meredith Cole

Meredith William Cole Jr., 49, of Frederick, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2007, at the Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Born December 14, 1957 he was the son of Roberta D. Wallace Cole and the late Meredith William Cole Sr.

Mr. Cole was a graduate of the West Frederick High School and a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. He enjoyed time assembling crafts, Motorcycles and Automotive.

In addition to his mother, Roberta, Mr. Cole was survived by his sons, Meredith W. III and Cory D. Cole; his grandson, Bradley W. Cole; brother, Carlton Bruce Cole, of Frederick; sister, Bonnie Frushour and husband, Paul, of Middletown; his caregivers, David Schaffer and Angela Turner; and numerous cousins and friends.

Mr. Cole was preceded in death by one brother, David Michael Cole and grandparents, Louis and Elsie Cole and Robert and Edna Wallace.

Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 27, at the Francis Scott Key Memorial Chapel at the Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick. Rev. David G. Oravec to officiate. Interment to follow services at the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family. Arrangements and services are being held by the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, Frederick.

Mrs. Ellen Wilt Rust

Ellen Estelle "Tellie" Wilt Rust, 86, of Homosassa Springs, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007 at Life Care Center in Lecanto, Fla.

She was born on May 26, 1921 in Loudoun County, Va. to the late Harry and Mary Wilt and moved to the Florida area in 1959, from Lovettsville, Va. Mrs. Rust owned and operated a dairy farm from the early 1940's until 1959 when she moved to Florida and purchased a Hotel Restaurant business that she operated for two years.

Ellen then worked at the Homosassa Springs Nature Attraction Restaurant for over 25 years. She was also a homemaker. Mrs. Rust was a member of New Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Lovettsville, Va. Her sister, Alma C. Wilt and two brothers, Thorton Wilt and Lloyd Wilt predeceased her.

Survivors include four children, one son, Perry Mason Rust and wife, Wendy, of New Mexico, Shirley E. Masters and husband, Everett, of Homosassa, Sandra K. Dean and husband, Morris, Bronson, Fla. and Kristi D. Reed, of Homosassa Springs, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m., on Tuesday, Nov. 27, at the Brown/Loudoun Funeral Chapel 34 East Broad Way, Lovettsville, Va. with Rev. G. Andreas Armstrong officiating the funeral service at 11 a.m.

Mr. William Brown

William "Bill" Lee Brown, 75, died Nov. 20, 2007 from complications with diabetes. He was born in Lovettsville, Va. on Oct. 25, 1932 to John Otley Brown and Lucille Wright. He was married to Esther Marie Athey, who predeceased him in 1991. Bill retired in December 2006 from Ravensworth properties, Ravensworth Shopping Center in Springfield, Va., with 5S years of service.

He is survived by his children, Bill Brown and wife, Libby, of Harpers Ferry, W.V., Joanne Tharp and husband, Lynn, of Lucketts, Va., and Terrie Mabe, of Lucketts, Va., whose husband, Jackie, died in 2004. He is also survived by his sister, Janet Dawson, of Del., and brother, Robert Brown, of Leesburg; four grandchildren, William "Will" Brown, Nicole Tharp, Daniel Tharp, and Ashley Mabe; and three members of Esther's family, Lena Frye and Nancy Quesenberry, of Lucketts, and Mary Carnes of Hagerstown. Other family members include Lisa, Richard, Corey and Seth Smith; Timmy, Kelly and Dylan Mabe; Matt Wilt; Caity Goyne; Brad Draisey; Robin and Mark Kalreiss; Nikki, Carlos and Bianca Flores; Crystal and Chris Roeder; and his best friends, Lawrence and Lizzy Hough.

Friends and family may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, Nov. 26, 2007 at Colonial Funeral Home, 201 Edwards Ferry Road NE., Leesburg, Va., where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2007, with Jay Merchant officiating. Interment Union cemetery, Leesburg.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Lucketts Bluegrass Foundation, Lucketts Community Center, 42361 Lucketts Road, Leesburg, VA 20176 or to the Lucketts Fire and Rescue, Company 10, 43267 Lucketts Road, Leesburg, VA 20176.

Mr. Charles Stanley Hubbard Sr.

Mr. Charles Stanley Hubbard Sr., 81, of Woodsboro, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2007 at Glade Valley Nursing and Rehabilitative Center, Walkersville, after a brief illness.

Born January 4, 1926 in Creagerstown, he was the son of the late George W. and Myrtle I. Putman Hubbard. He was the husband of Doris Lambert Hubbard, with whom he celebrated 60 years of marriage on Nov. 21.

Mr. Hubbard graduated from Columbia Tech in Washington, D.C. as a draftsman.

He was employed for 17 years with Charles F. Bowers, Frederick, also doing detail design work at Bowers Lumber Company's mill shop. While at Bowers he was involved in many projects, including the Frederick, Hagerstown and Westminster armories and the remodeling of the former Frederick courthouse (now City Hall) in the 1950's. He also worked on the Winchester Hall alterations, the dormitories of the Maryland School for the Deaf, many buildings at Hood College and several residential projects. He also worked for Bushee and Chapman Architects, Cavetown, before joining Floyd L. Culler, Inc., later known as Glotren-Culler Construction as designer and draftsman. He worked on the Law Building, millwork detailing for the Hessian Barracks and Fort Frederick renovations, the Historical Society and other fine buildings.

He was a very active member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Utica, where he was one of the draftsmen and designers of the Educational Building, served numerous terms on the church council, was chair of the Church Property Committee, served on the cemetery board and was active with the Sunday school program and the church picnic. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps with the aviation unit, seeing action during World War II in the Southwest Pacific area. He enjoyed woodworking, wood restoration, vegetable gardening, taking walks, fishing and spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Susan Tinney and husband, John, of Walkersville; Kathy Hubbard, of Hagerstown; Charlene Haines and husband, Kennith, of Frederick; three sons, Charles S. Hubbard Jr. and wife, Lorna, of Lewistown; Larry H. Hubbard and wife, Sandra, of Martinsburg, W.V.; David A. Hubbard and wife, Vicki, of Walkersville; a brother, Glen Hubbard, of Calif.; 11 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Helen Whipp, Frances Davis, Kathleen Hubbard and Mary Gross and three brothers, John, Raymond and Ralph Hubbard.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Utica, with Rev. William M. Bucher, his pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Utica cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 404 S. Main St., Woodsboro, and at the church one hour prior to service time on Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Utica cemetery Association, c/o St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 10625 Old Frederick Road, Thurmont, MD 21788.

Mr. James Murray

James Michael Murray, age 66, of Mount Airy, died Friday, Nov. 23, 2007 at his home.

Born August 9, 1941 in Baltimore, he was the son of the late William and Carrie Entikin Murray. He was the husband of Frances Arlene Murray (nee Cooney) of Mount Airy.

He had been a project manager for Harford Refrigeration for 39 years and retired in 2006. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a Corvette enthusiast and member of Free State Corvette Club.

Surviving in addition to his wife are sons and daughters-in-law, Steven P. and Becky Murray, of Mount Airy, David M. and Lisa Murray, of St. Augustine, Fla., and Christopher A. and Carole Murray, of Mount Airy; brothers, Billy Murray, of Catonsville and Teddy Murray, of Toccoa, Ga.; sisters, Pat Bradshaw, of Berlin and Linda Kuykendall, of Fredericksburg, Va.; and grandchildren, Logan, Ashley, Zoe, Sarah, Hannah, Devin, Garrett and Morgan Murray.

He was predeceased by grandson, the late Ryan P. Murray.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, at Calvary Lutheran Church, Mount Airy with Pastor Roger Rinker officiating. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church, 16151 Old Frederick Rd., Mt. Airy, MD 21771.

Mr. Bernard Koontz

Bernard K. "Sonny" Koontz, 69, of Taneytown, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2007, at Washington Hospital Center of Washington.

Born Dec. 10, 1937 in Carroll County, to the late Vernon L. and Grace (Crabbs) Koontz.

He was a 1957 Taneytown High School graduate.

He served in the Army following the Korean Conflict. He was a Payroll clerk for Lehigh Cement of Woodsboro.

Surviving is brother, Richard L. Koontz, of Taneytown; sister, Shirley A. Shaffer, of Hanover, Pa.; and a niece and three nephews.

He was a member of St. Mary's U.C.C., of Silver Run. He also attended St. John's Lutheran Church of Littlestown, Pa. He was a member of Taneytown American Legion Post 120.

His funeral will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 27, at Little's Funeral Home, 34 Maple, Littlestown. Rev. Dr. Richard W. Scott officiating. The viewing will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Monday, Nov. 26, at the funeral home. Interment will be at St. Mary's cemetery, Silver Run.

Mrs. Helen Green

Mrs. Helen Lucille Green, 90, died Saturday, November 24, at the Falling Springs Nursing Home, Chambersburg, Pa. She was the wife of Frederick L. Green, who died December 22, 1966. Borin in Point of Rocks August 22, 1916, she was a daughter of the late Theodore and Lula Smith Forrest.

Mrs. Green was of the Methodist faith. She will be remembered by her family as a great cook, a hard-working woman and a great mom.

Mrs. Green was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are four children, Raymond L. Green and wife, Dorothy, Joann G. Wagaman and husband, Glenn, all of Sabillasville, Janet M. Kinley of Waynesboro, Pa., and Florence Ann Toms and husband, James, of Thurmont. Eleven grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Ruby L. Ditch.

Mrs. Green is at the Robert E. Daily & Son Funeral Homes, 615 East Main St., Thurmont, where the family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26. On Tuesday, Nov. 27, Mrs. Green will be removed to Garfield United Methodist Church, 13628 Stottlemyer Road, Wolfsville, where she will lie in state from 10 to 11 a.m., at which time services will be conducted by the Rev. Randall S. Reid.

Interment will be in Mt. Bethel cemetery, Foxville. The family requests that memorials be made in memory of Mrs. Green to the Garfield United Methodist Church, c/o Rev. Randall S. Reid, 12477 Wolfsville Road, Myersville, MD 21773.

Mr. Barry Elsasser

Barry D. Elsasser, age 55, of Frederick, formerly of New Castle, Del., passed away on Friday, November 23, 2007 at Montgomery General Hospital in Olney.

Mr. Elsasser was born in Philadelphia, Pa., to the late Alfred C. and Ruth H. Elsasser. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in marketing from the University of Delaware and his Master's degree in telecommunications from the George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Mr. Elsasser had been a communications specialist for the Internal Revenue Service in New Carrollton for 28 years. He enjoyed golfing and fishing, and was a devoted father, brother and friend.

He is survived by his daughters, Katherine R., Amy C., and Ann M. Elsasser; and brother, Drew A. Elsasser.

A graveside service will be held at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 28, at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, Minquadale, New Castle.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Heart Association Memorial Fund, 1096 Old Churchman's Road, Newark, DE 19713.

Mr. Richard Mayes

Richard P. "Dick" Mayes, 72, of Beverly, W.Va., died Friday, November 23, 2007 in Elkins, W.Va., after a long illness. Mr. Mayes was the son of the late Kenneth P. Mayes and Mary Louise Wilson Mayes.

Mr. Mayes retired from the Western Maryland/Chessie/CSX railroad after 40 years of service, was a lifelong coin and stamp collector, a noted taxidermist, a member of a winning national duckpin bowling team in the 1960s and served in the U.S. Army Reserve. He was a member of many area civic and charitable organizations.

Mr. Mayes is survived by a son, Jody P. Mayes of Sterling, Va., and three daughters, Cindy L. Neumann of Smithsburg, Shawn M. Jacubec of Silver Spring, and Misti D. Winders of Hagerstown; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas A. "Tom" Mayes in 1994.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, November 29 at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania, Hagerstown with the Rev. Richard H. Jewell officiating. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Rest Haven cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice Care, 111 Randolph Avenue, Elkins, WV 26241 in care of Richard Mayes.

Mrs. Eva Weller

Mrs. Eva Virginia Weller, 88, of Frederick, died on Saturday, November 24, 2007 at the Northampton Manor Nursing Center, Frederick. She was the wife of the late Franklin T. Weller.

Born January 4, 1919, in Ijamsville, she was a daughter of the late Jefferson Frederick and Lottie Noyes Keller. Mrs. Weller was a longtime member of the Ijamsville United Methodist Church and was an avid bingo player for many years. She worked at Barbara Fritchie restaurant, as well as Urbana Elementary School for many years.

She is survived by three sons, Fred T. Weller and wife, Mary K., of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Roy L. Weller and wife, Dee, and Franklin N. Weller, all of Frederick; one daughter, Ruth E. Houck, of Walkersville; one sister, Sophia Myers, of Ijamsville; two sisters-in-law, Frances Weller, of Monrovia, and Irma Weller, of Urbana; seven grandchildren; nine great-gradnchidren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is also remembered by a special, foster child, Betty Nicholson.

She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Gerald Houck and daughter-in-law, Mary K. Weller; and one sister, Ruth Beard.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 26 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 27 from the funeral home with the Rev. Franklin Bishop, officiating. Pallbearers will be Curtis Weller, Frank Weller, Corey Weller, Kevin Houck, Gary Wilson and Paul Beard. Interment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Ijamsville United Methodist Church, 4746 Mussetter Road, Ijamsville, MD 21754.

Mr. Lawrence Mills

Mr. Lawrence Carlton "Larry" Mills Jr., 49, of Frederick, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007 at College View Center, Frederick.

Born Feb. 10, 1958 in Olney, he was a son of Lawrence Carlton Mills Sr. and his wife, Betty, of Frederick and Eleanor Mae Fox Waters, also of Frederick. Larry worked as a chef in a number of area restaurants and was formerly a member of Laytonsville Methodist Church.

Besides his parents, he is survived by a sister, Jill Manahan, of Arnold; two brothers, Kenneth Mills, of Frederick, Richard Mills, of Laytonsville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Sheri Wahl.

There will be no calling at the funeral home. Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 18, at the Providence United Methodist Church, Kemptown. Burial will be in the Kemptown cemetery.

Mr. Nelson Marshall Pittinger

Mr. Nelson Marshall Pittinger, 91, of Frederick, who died on Saturday, September 1, 2007, at the Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center, will be interred at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 19, 2007 in Arlington National cemetery, Fort Myer, Va., with full military honors. Those wishing to attend should assemble at the Administration Center within the cemetery at 10:30 a.m.

Arrangements are by Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, Frederick.
