Mrs. Carol Sapp

Carol Marie Sapp, of Stafford, Va., was called home to be with her Lord unexpectedly on Monday, September 24, 2007.

She was vice president and co-founder of Heritage House of Virginia Inc., serving the needs of adults with mental retardation in the Stafford area; attended Ramoth Baptist Church, and was active in supplying food and shelter for the homeless. Mrs. Sapp is survived by her husband of 46 years, Jason W. Sapp; daughters, Joanne Lee and her husband, Danny, Vicki Sapp, Suzanne France and husband, Tom, Jennifer White and husband, David; sons, Jason Sapp and wife, Vanessa, John Sapp and wife, Karen, Daniel Sapp and wife, Renee; sister, Betty Miskell; brother, Paul Spurlock; as well as 23 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Sapp was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Laura Spurlock. The family received friends at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Services, Stafford Chapel, on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007. Funeral services were held on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007, at Ramoth Baptist Church, Stafford, officiated by the Rev. M. Paige Bowman. Danny Lee, Carol's son-in-law, sang her favorite song, "Mansion Over The Hilltop."

Graveside services and burial were at Woodlawn cemetery in Adel Georgia with the assistance of Purvis Funeral Home in Adel.

Eulogy by Jason W. Sapp:

Carol was a devoted wife and mother who loved her family and friends. Carol gave her heart to Christ in 1972 and was absolutely sure of being a Christian. Carol was a witness to those around her by encouraging others to seek a personal relationship with Christ.
Carol especially enjoyed being a part of the church choir and singing many solos over the years. Over the years, Carol wrote many songs and lyrics, once writing, "I've been touched by Jesus."
Most recently, Carol was excited to embark on a new study The Purpose Driven Life growing her relationship with Christ, strengthening her walk and as she said, "to do better."
Carol knew that there is a world of difference between feeling sorry for someone and actually doing something to help them. Carol was a friend and helper to people with disabilities and worked directly with these individuals for the last 11 years living with and caring for their day-to-day needs. Carol always saw the person first, the disability second and encouraged others to do likewise.
Carol was a friend and a helper to the homeless and less fortunate. She demonstrated this regularly, by providing food, clothing, shoes and shelter. When the "system" deemed someone ineligible, caseworkers would call Carol and she would provide anything that the case manager said they needed right now, because they knew with Carol, they would be eligible.
Carol was a friend and a helper to her family and friends, physically, spiritually and financially whenever able. She warmly gathered those she loved around her dinner table, feeding hungry throngs on Sunday afternoons and holidays. She supported loved ones in many ways, as only a mother and friend can. She provided spiritually by praying for those she loved and offering gentle, and sometimes not so gentle, words of wisdom. She provided financially by making sure that no one that she knew of was deprived of food, shelter or needs that she could meet.
Carol and I talked every day about how good God was to us. Today we remember Carol and pay tribute to her we must remember that this is not the final tribute to Carol.
She lives on in the hearts and lives of those she loved and of those who loved her. Don't cry for Carol. Be happy for her.
