Ms. Gail Pumphrey and David, Megan and Brandon Brockdorff

Ms. Gail L. Pumphrey and her loving children, David P. Brockdorff, Megan L. Brockdorff, Brandon J. Brockdorff, formerly of Ijamsville, died Thursday November 22, 2007.

Gail and her children moved to Howard County in February, 2007. Their home immediately became the hub of the neighborhood. The kids on the street would flock to the house to play with David, Megan and Brandon. She loved having children playing in her home and yard and the kids loved hosting the fun.

Gail and her children would enjoy bike riding, hiking, swimming and just watching movies, and were active with the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Frederick.

Gail's life was her children, and she captured and cherished every moment she had with them. She loved them and they loved her back. Even as a single working mom of three, Gail somehow managed to maintain close relationships with many family members and friends. The people in her life were important to her and she made sure they knew it. Gail worked for USAirways for 19 years. She was a flight attendant and would only fly the weekends when the children were with their father. This gave her the opportunity to be at home with her children during the week. Gail's goal was to eventually be in a position to volunteer to help Domestic Violence victims.

Surviving are her beloved sisters, Debbie Goodman and husband, Lenny, Janet Blackburn and partner, Ken Allred, brothers, David Pumphrey and wife, Leona, and Mark Pumphrey. She was also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

David was a straight-A student and was currently attending 7th grade at Glenwood Middle School and he was formerly a student at Urbana Elementary and Middle Schools. He was in many magnet classes. He enjoyed learning and loved to be challenged. David was a huge sports fan. He loved the New England Patriots. His mom took him and his siblings to the New England Patriots Training Camp this year. David enjoyed playing football in the yard with Megan, Brandon and the neighbor kids. He also loved to play games on his PS2, especially Guitar Hero. His favorite foods included spaghetti and pizza. One thing David did not like was chocolate.

Megan was a popular child with many friends and was in the 5th grade at Lisbon Elementary School, and was formerly a student at Centreville Elementary. She was an outgoing, rugged girl and not afraid to get dirty. She enjoyed playing football with her brothers. There was also a softer side of Megan. She loved to have her nails painted. She recently got her ears pierced and loved wearing earrings and the new necklace her mom gave her for her 10th birthday in October. Megan loved flowers. Her mom often stopped by the floral section while grocery shopping just to surprise Megan with flowers. She also enjoyed playing her electric organ. Megan's favorite food was shrimp.

Brandon was the "cool dude" and was in the 2nd grade at Lisbon Elementary School and was formerly a student at Centreville Elementary. He loved his temporary tattoos, his summer Mohawk hair cut (but mom wasn't crazy about it) and his leather jacket. He would not hesitate to give you the "rock on" hand signal. He enjoyed getting together with his friends to play their Nintendo DS games. Brandon enjoyed riding his bike and playing his electric guitar. He was a kind, caring child. His favorite food included anything dipped in honey mustard.

David, Megan and Brandon were the beloved grandchildren of the late Christian and Gloria Pumphrey and Jack and Donna Brockdorff. Surviving are numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 28, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church 31 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, from the chuch. Rev. Dr. David G. Oravec and Reverend Albert K. Lane III will officiate.
