Mrs. Ethel Haynie

Mrs. Ethel Marie Haynie, 80, passed away in Norfolk, Va., on Wednesday, January 31, 2007.

She was born in Minot, N.D., and trained as a nurse during World War II. She was married for 34 years to the late Dr. Harry Deschamps of Hancock.

A devoted servant of Jesus Christ, she was as a speaker for Christian Women's Clubs, a Bible teacher and served on the boards of Young Life in Hagerstown and WCRH Christian Radio in Williamsport.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Collin Haynie of Norfolk, Va.; a son, Dr. Jeffery Deschamps of Frederick; daughters, Dr. Colette Deschamps-Dardar of Hancock, Connie Walcott of Calgary AB, Canada and Dr. Janine Grayson of Hampton Va.; six grandchildren, Janette Deschamps, Alex Stubbings, Paul Deschamps, Alexa Walcott, Haleigh Hershberger and husband Brian and Andy Walcott; and sisters, Lola Plaisted of Minneapolis, Minn., Dorothy Woods of Chula Vista, Calif., and Helen Tippens, of Nehalem, Ore.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, at Bayside Baptist Church, 1920 Pleasure House Road, Virginia Beach, Va. A celebration of her life is also planned at 2 p.m. April 21 at Tri-State Fellowship, 13153 Cearfoss Pike, Hagerstown.

Mr. Joseph Hobbs Sr.

Mr. Joseph Henry Hobbs Sr., 77, of N. Seton Ave., Emmitsburg, died Thursday, February 1, 2007, at his residence.

Born June 18, 1929, on his parents farm in Fairfield, Pa., Joe was one of 16 children of the late Raymond and Zita Sneering Hobbs.

Joe married the late Racheal Mae Haley Hobbs on February 11, 1950. He was a graduate of St. Joseph's High School, Emmitsburg, class of 1947. He became a draftsman and designed and built houses locally.

Joe was blessed with a talent and passion for his country music. He was a self-taught player of the fiddle, guitar and piano. He could also sing. In the late '40s and early '50s, he and one of his brothers, Mike Hobbs had formed the Cheerful Valley Gang. They played regularly in the surrounding areas of Maryland and Pennsylvania. In the early '50s the band played live every Saturday morning on WTHU radio station.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Emmitsburg.

Joe is survived by four children, Joseph Henry Hobbs Jr. and wife Kathy of Walkersville, Steven Bruce Hobbs and wife Dorothy of Houston, Texas, M. Elaine Norris of Westminster and Joyce Annette Giannini and husband Pete of Hanover, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; four brothers, Larry Hobbs, Paul Hobbs, Karl Hobbs and Michael Hobbs; and 11 sisters, Mary K. Brinkman, Rosetta Bream, Martha Bravo, Carolyn Lydon, Ann Marie McCleaf, Corona Naylor, Lillian Harner, Angela Parrish, Agatha Foscoto, Linda Steinle and Janen Hobbs.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, with a Mass of Christian burial from St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Emmitsburg, with his pastor, the Rev. Vincent J. O'Malley, C.M. as the celebrant.

Interment will be in New St. Joseph's cemetery, Emmitsburg.

Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m., Monday, Feb. 5, at the Skiles Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. and a Christian wake service will be held at 8:15 p.m.

Mrs. Doris Latham

Mrs. Doris L. Latham, 90, of Greensboro, N.C., died Thursday, February 1, 2007, at the home of her daughter in Walkersville, after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Raymond Walter Latham who died September 15, 1991.

Born in Greensboro on December 24, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Lillian Gertrude (Landreth) and Emmit Earl Coffin.

Survivors include her three children, Mrs. Betty Iskow and husband Kenneth of Silver Spring, Mrs. Frances Lynch of Walkersville and Mr. James M. Latham and wife Abbie of Randleman, N.C.; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Kathryn Singleton, Audrey Day, Barbara Ann Ruch, William Coffin, Kenny Coffin and Larry Coffin. She will also be remembered by numerous nieces and nephews.

Doris was also preceded in death by a son, Lewis Latham; and two brothers, Emmit and Jack Coffin.

Doris was a woman of character. She lived her life for her family, friends and community.

An accomplished needle artist, her many artistic talents will live on in her beautiful works she created.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, at in the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, with the Rev. Yolanda Gamble officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in the Mount Lebanon United Methodist Church cemetery in Randleman, N.C. under the direction of Pugh Funeral Home in Randleman.

Doris loved Valentines Day and enjoyed making and sending them; therefore in lieu of flowers, please send a Valentine to someone special in her honor and include "I love you."

Mr. William Miller

Mr. William Allen Miller, 85, passed away at his home on Monday, January 29, 2007.

He was born November 17, 1921, to Addie (Kelly) Miller and William Allen Miller Sr. He was raised by Molly and George Yinger.

He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army and received a purple heart. Mr. Miller was a tool and die maker, photographer, modeler and artist.

Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Mary Miller, on March 27, 2000. He is survived by three daughters, Jean Levy of Arizona, Ann Keen and husband Jim of Thornberry, Texas, and Bonnie Gibson of Henrietta, Texas; close friend, Mrya Rosada; and three grandchildren, Kelly, Joey and Stacy.

Mrs. Mable Ambush

Mrs. Mable E. Ambush, 81, of Frederick, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 28, 2007.

Born on June 28, 1925, Mable was the daughter of the late Mary E. Boyce and the late Lawrence Thomas.

She was a longtime employee of the Montgomery County School Board, where she worked until retirement. Mable was a member of Quinn Chapel AME Church for many years, serving on the usher board. She was also a longtime member of the NAACP, Elks, the March of Dimes, the Ladies Auxiliary of New Market Fire Department and the Frederick County Scholarship Fund for many years.

Mable is survived by four children, Nettie V. Howard and fiance Greg Timpson, Robert J. Howard Jr. and wife Patricia, all of Frederick, Michael Howard and wife Linda and Patricia E. Ray and husband Luke of Walkersville. Mable is also survived by 10 grandchildren and more than 30 great- and great-great-grandchildren.

Public viewing will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Gary L. Rollins Funeral Home, 110 W. South St., Frederick. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. above chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at Quinn Chapel AME Church, 106 E. Third St. Pastor Luke J. Robinson will officiate. Interment will be in Fairview cemetery, Frederick.

Mr. Howard Cooper

Mr. Howard Murray Cooper returned home to be with his Heavenly Father at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 24, 2007.

Born in Brunswick on August 1, 1936, he was the son of Howard Ellsworth Cooper and Minnie Elizabeth Watts Cooper. He was a graduate of Brunswick High School, class of 1954.

Mr. Cooper was a retired U.S. Air Force veteran, as well as a retired locomotive engineer with the CSX Railroad.

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and attended the Roosevelt 7th Ward. He served several callings since joining the church in 2001.

Born and raised on the east coast, he loved the west and lived in Roosevelt, Utah, for almost nine years. He enjoyed camping with his family, hiking, hunting, fishing and being a tour guide for family and friends visiting the area. He also enjoyed riding and caring for his two horses, Gris and Juliet.

His wife of 49 years, Barbara Ann Lerch Cooper, survives him. Howard and Barbara would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on April 27 of this year. Seven children, Melissa of Roosevelt, Utah, Lisa of Colorado Springs, Colo., Shawnee and boyfriend Mark of Linden, Va., Martelle and husband Tom of Hyndman, Pa., Michelle and fiance Tom of Biglerville, Pa., Howard (Matthew) and wife Hope of Sharpsburg and Michael and fiance Christine of Frederick; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren also survive him. Mr. Cooper's brother, Tom, resides in Gaithersburg.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, at Resthaven Memorial Gardens Chapel Mausoleum, 9501 U.S. 15N, Frederick. Interment, with full military honors, will follow in the Veterans Garden of Honor I at Resthaven. Dr. Wayne Allgaier, of Brunswick, will dedicate Mr. Cooper's grave.

A service was held at the Roosevelt 7th Ward in Neola, Utah, on Monday, Jan. 29, at 1 p.m., with Bishop Val Killian officiating. The family received friends at Hullinger Mortuary in Roosevelt on Sunday, Jan. 28, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Mr. Theodore Kreh X

Mr. Theodore Christian Kreh X, 74, of Bealeton, Va., died Wednesday, January 31, 2007, at Fauquier Hospital.

He was born in Frederick on February 9, 1932, a son of Theodore Christian Kreh IX and Helen May Purdy Kreh.

Mr. Kreh served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He worked at NASA in Huntsville, Ala., on the space program and retired from IBM where he was a quality engineer. He was a member of the Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Kreh played and sang in various bluegrass bands in the area and enjoyed woodworking.

He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy Kreh; four children, Theodore Christian Kreh XI of Goldvein, Va., Marie Haley of Memphis, Tenn., Timothy Michael Kreh and wife Amee of Culpeper, Va., and Randy Thomas Morse and wife Amanda of Spotsylvania, Va.; three brothers, Richard Kreh of Frederick, Bernard Kreh of Hunt Valley and Michael Baumgardner of Atlanta, Ga.; six grandchildren, Megan Kreh, Charlie Kreh, Kendall Morse, Theodore Kreh XII, Christopher Poe and Benjamin Poe; and four great-grandchildren.

A sister, Ellen Sheffield, preceded him in death.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Moser Funeral Home, 233 Broadview Ave., Warrenton, Va. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at Moser Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment will be in Grove Baptist Church cemetery.

Mr. Richard Moore

Mr. Richard Meredith Moore, of Parkville, died Tuesday, January 30, 2007.

He was the beloved husband of Dixie Woernle Moore; devoted father of Regina L. of Parkville, Larry E., Richard M. Jr.; and brother of Eleanora Russell and Frances Schwinn, both of Brunswick, Minnie Hogan of Coralville, Iowa, Aileen Williams of Naples, Fla., Maurice Moore of Martinsburg, W.Va., George "Bill" Moore of West Virginia, Thomas Moore of Brunswick and the late Ernestine Murphy, Mary, James and Paul Moore; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will honor Richard's life at the family owned Evans Funeral Chapel and Cremation Services, Parkville, 8800 Harford Rd., on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. where funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Moreland Memorial Park.

Memorial donations can be made in Richard's name to the American Heart Diabetes Association.

Mr. Leonard Murphy

Mr. Leonard Trout "Pat" Murphy passed away peacefully at home Friday, January 26, 2007.

Pat was born to parents Baxter and Norma Murphy on January 22, 1917, in Walkersville. He attended Walkersville High School, Maryland School of Accounting and Mount Vernon School of Law., where he graduated with the class of 1933. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served with the Finance Corp from 1943 to 1945. His military record includes the Europe, Africa and Middle East citations. He was soon employed by the American Cyanamid Company, a major pharmaceuticals corporation employing 35, 000 employees and retired as the treasurer of the company.

After retirement in 1978, he and his wife, Dorothy, moved to Ormond Beach, Fla., where he enjoyed playing golf with friends and volunteering for many community organizations. Pat was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Ormond Beach and served as a past president and treasurer for the club as well as chairman of the finance committee. He was also a former member of the Keystone Club, past vice president of the United Way and a board member of its board of directors and executive committee. He is a former member of the board of directors of the United Way Endowment Fund and served two years as chairman of the board of counselors of Bethune Cookman College.

A member of St. Brendan Catholic Church, he had served as chairman of the parish council and lector. Additionally, he served as a Salvation Army bell ringer. In 1984, he received the Citizen of the Year Award from the Ormond Beach Chamber of Commerce and in the same year he received the Humanitarian of the Year Award from the Keystone Club of Memorial Hospital.

Pat was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, and their son, Michael Robert Murphy. He was also predeceased by two sisters, Stella Stoker of Cambridge and Catherine Snider of Frederick.

He is survived by two brothers, Lloyd Murphy of Jefferson and Bernard Murphy of Frederick; grandchildren, Shelby Cripps and husband Craig of Katy, Texas, and Michael J. Murphy of Marlin, Texas; daughter-in-law, Charlotte Murphy; and great-grandchildren, Cody and Chloe Cripps.

The family would like to offer our deepest appreciation for all the love and care offered to Pat by Alice Parker as his continuous caretaker for the past four years.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Brendan Catholic Church, 136 Banyan Dr., Ormond Beach, FL 32176.

Mr. William Roelkey Sr.

Mr. William Noah Roelkey Sr., 80, of Knoxville, passed away on Monday, January 29, 2007, at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Veleria T. Roelkey. They were married almost 50 years.

Born July 23, 1926, in Knoxville, he was the son of the late David Henry Roelkey II and Helen Hightman Roelkey.

He was a brakeman and a conductor on the B&O; Railroad for 46 years until his retirement.

Mr. Roelkey was a member of the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. He was a farmer and also a member of the Long Pond Rod Gun Club. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed being at home and spending time with his family.

In addition to his loving wife, Veleria, he is survived by three children, William N. Roelkey Jr. of Rosemont, Karen Bartlett-Smith and husband Cole of Walkersville and Mark Alan Roelkey Sr. and wife Mary of Rosemont; five grandchildren, Mark Roelkey Jr., Brittney Bartlett, Matthew Roelkey, Max Roelkey and William Roelkey III; one sister, Mary Simpson of Lovetsville, Va.; and two brothers, Robert Roelkey III of Boonsboro and Albert Roelkey of Brownsville. He will also be remembered by his numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his five sisters, Ellen Roelkey, Martha Roelkey, Nina Filler, Helen Ryan and Lillian Harwood; and four brothers, David Roelkey III, John Roelkey, Oliver Roelkey and Warren Roelkey.

The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100 N. Maple Ave., Brunswick, on Thursday, Feb. 1, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be at the funeral home on Friday, Feb. 2, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Wendell McClellan officiating.

Family members will serve as pallbearers.

Interment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

Mr. Ronald Stevens

Mr. Ronald Lee Stevens, 66, of Monrovia, died Monday, January 29, 2007, at his home.

He was the beloved husband of Dorothy M. Engholm Stevens.

Born July 11, 1940, in Terre Haute, Ind., he was the son of the late Roy Williams Stevens and the late Bessie Mildred Sauls Stevens.

Mr. Stevens served in the U.S. Navy from 1957 to 1961. He loved spending quality time with his family and friends. He enjoyed playing golf and also was an avid reader.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two loving sons, Sean Christopher Stevens and fiancee Jacqueline Marsh and Erin Lee Stevens and wife Ana; two grandchildren, Ian Christian Stevens and Juliana Stevens; and two step-grandchildren, Juan Carols Mata and Gustavo Mata; brother, Roy Stevens; and sister, Shirley Rousch.

He was preceded in death by two children, Courtney Leigh Stevens and Ian Christian Stevens; and a brother, Larry Stephens.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, at Molesworth-Williams P.A., Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2, at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Providence Methodist cemetery, Kemptown.
