Mr. James Bailey

Mr. James C. Bailey, 74, of Frederick, died Sunday, January 28, 2007, at Northampton Manor Nursing Home.

He was the husband of Lavola I. Bailey, his wife of 54 years.

Born February 7, 1932, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late James C. Bailey Sr. and the late Addie Richardson and stepson to Helen Bailey of Florida.

He enjoyed playing golf, football and baseball.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Edward Bailey and wife Tina of Middletown; three grandchildren, Mary Bailey Henderson and husband Mikey, Rebecca Bailey and Melissa Sarber; four great-grandchildren, Sierra Henderson, Tyler Ott, Mckayla Swann and Ella Fox; and one sister, Beverly Walker of Temple Hills.

Arrangements will be made by Gary L. Rollins Funeral Home, 110 W. South St., Frederick. Funeral services and interment will be private.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy be made in the form of memorial contributions in the name of James C. Bailey to the American Heart Association by calling 1-800-242-8721.

Mr. Spencer Geasey

Mr. Spencer O. Geasey, 81, of Myersville, died Sunday, January 28, 2007, at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Nancy Carlile Geasey, his wife of 27 years.

Born October 22, 1925, in Great Neck, Long Island, N.Y., he was the son of Spencer O. and Anna Mary Lewis Geasey.

Mr. Geasey served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 304th Infantry, 76th Division. He was wounded in action in Luxembourg, which resulted in the loss of his leg during a volunteer mission. He received a purple heart, a campaign ribbon with two bronze stars, American Theatre ribbon, Combat Infantry ribbon and a Good Conduct medal. Mr. Geasey retired from Fort Detrick as housing manager, after 30 years of service. Later he worked as an archeological field assistant for the Maryland State Highway Administration. In 1993, he was the first archeologist to receive the Calvert Prize, the highest award for preservation in the state of Maryland, for his extensive work in archeology and for the 41, 000 artifacts from Frederick County, donated to the state. He had spoken to numerous organizations and schools, published many articles about local archeology, and there have been many articles published about him. He was a founding member of the Archeological Society of Maryland, receiving the William
B. Marye Award, the society's highest award, and was also a member of the Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and New York Archeological Societies.

Mr. Geasey was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Community, Middletown; DAV Washington and Lee Chapter 5, where he served as commander, chaplain and treasurer for many years; VFW Post 15021; American Legion Post 11; Amvets Post 2; a former member of the New Market Fire Company; a life member of the Junior Fire Company 2, AARP and NRA. He was an avid sportsman, especially hunting and fishing.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Lynn Harris and husband Ken of Raleigh, N.C., Deborah L. Baumgardner, Gina Leiby and husband Larry and Scott O. Geasey and wife Mary, all of Frederick; four grandchildren, Lindsey Leiby, Corporal Kyle Harris, USMC, Travis Leiby and Seth O. Geasey; and a sister, Grace A. Sheffield of Frederick. Also surviving are three nieces, several great-nieces and nephews and his first wife, Gloria Wickers of Waynesboro, Pa.

The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, on Thursday, Feb. 1, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Holy Family Catholic Community, 7321 Burkittsville Road, Middletown, on Friday, Feb. 2, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. J. Kevin Farmer officiating. Interment will be at Mount Prospect cemetery in Lewistown.

Mr. Robert Green

Mr. Robert Russell "Bunny" Green, age 62, of 14035 Spickler Road, Clear Spring, and formerly of Funkstown, died Tuesday, January 30, 2007, at his home.

Born September 17, 1944, in Hagerstown, he was a son of Harold P. and Julia M. Phillips Green of Somerford House in Hagerstown and formerly of Funkstown.

Robert graduated from South Hagerstown High School in 1962 and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Shepherd College, Shepherdstown, W.Va. He also studied at Berklee School of Music, Boston Conservatory and completed graduate studies at Towson University and Frostburg University.

Bob was employed by Washington County Public Schools as an instrumental music instructor for 39 year, retiring in May 2005. He held positions at many county elementary and middle schools, serving the last 10 years of his career at Springfield Middle School.

Robert was a member of the AFM Local 770 for 46 years. He had performed solo, ensemble and lead positions with various bands and orchestras, including the Phil Young Orchestra, Paul Giltin Big Band, Harvey Gardner Band, the Highlights, Jack Frost, Bill Krantz and Topaz, Spectrum, The Swing Masters, The Music Masters and his own band, Easy Listenin'. Bob has performed with such notables as Cab Calloway, Della Reese, Tex Ritter, Bobby Helms and Dizzie Gillespie.

He was a member of Moose Lodge International, Maryland State Teachers Association, Maryland Retired Teachers Association, and Phi Sigma Epsilon.

Robert was an active member of Benevola United Methodist Church, near Boonsboro, for 36 years, where he has served as organist, pianist/accompanist, member of several choirs, sound and lighting engineer and board member.

Bob has been the recipient of many awards and honors, including appointment to All-State Band and the John Phillip Sousa Award. He was nominated for both the Maryland state Teacher of the Year Award and Disney's American Teacher Award. Robert was recognized by the AFM for his outstanding contributions of time and talent. In 2004, he was named Survivor of the Year by the American Cancer Society.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 42 years, Judy Ellen Isner Green; three daughters, Michelle Green Kalendek of Perry Hall, Tonya Green Oberhaus of Myersville and Nicole Green Ritchey of Maugansville; six grandchildren, Bethany, Luke, Tyson, Logan, Ariel and Faith; one brother, Ronald H. Green and wife Suzanne of Clarksburg; one brother-in-law, the Rev. Gary R. Isner and wife Nellie of Sebastian, Fla.; one niece, Allyson; and five nephews, Randy, Howard, Robert, Scott and Douglas.

He was preceded in death by one son, Robert Russell (B.J.) Green; and one grandson, Gavin Tyler Ritchey.

Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Friday at Benevola United Methodist Church. The Rev. Dr. Helen Smith will officiate. Interment will follow in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bast Funeral Home, Boonsboro.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Benevola United Methodist Church, Stained Glass Window Memorial, 19225 Benevola Church Road, Boonsboro, MD 21713.

Mrs. Rubie Jameson

Mrs. Rubie L. Jameson, 93, of Mount Airy and formerly of New Port Richey, Fla., died December 19, 2006, at Lorien Nursing Home, Mount Airy. She was the wife of the late Gilbert Jameson.

Mrs. Jameson was born on September 11, 1913, in West Bay, Fla.

She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Chapman-Bright and husband Richard of Mount Airy; three grandchildren, Rickey Chapman and wife Lynette of Silver Spring, Michael Chapman and wife Dara of Mount Airy and Jennifer Thornton and husband Matthew of Ellicott City; five great-grandchildren, Alison, Sarah, Melissa, John and Jennifer; one great-great-granddaughter, Lauren; and her niece, Nancy Ryan. She will be also be remembered by her many good friends.

Service and interment are private.

Mr. Charles Mercer

Mr. Charles Edward Mercer, 77, of Frederick, died on Sunday, January 28, 2007, at his home. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary (Parrish) Mercer.

Born on July 2, 1929, in Legore, he was a son of the late Frank John and Emma Elizabeth (Staub) Mercer.

Mr. Mercer attended the Frederick Church of the Brethren. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War. He enjoyed camping with his family at Chincoteague, fishing, boating, bowling and shooting pool. He was a great father and grandfather and was loved by everyone.

Surviving, besides his wife, is a son, Charles L. Mercer and wife Patty of Middletown; daughters, Kathy Staley and husband Garry Staley Sr. of Frederick and Candy Mercer of Frederick; nine grandchildren, Christine Palmer, Tita Maher, Brenda Tregoning, Chantelle Price, Garry Staley Jr., Ashton Mercer, Jaedyn Bugg, Anthony Bugg Jr. and James Tregoning; 11 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Leonard L. Mercer of Frederick, Jack Mercer of Brookville, Fla., John Mercer of Shepherdstown, W.Va., and Paul Mercer of Frederick; and two sisters, Betty Stone of Ijamsville and Shirley Springer of Jefferson.

He was preceded in death by two children, Wanda Tregoning and Wayne Mercer; three brothers, Melvin, Jessie and Lloyd Mercer; and five sisters, Daisey M. Stitley, Joan Snoots, Florence Watson, Geraldine Lowe and Anabel Sherman.

Family will receive friends at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, today, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Michael Watson officiating.

Interment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery.

Mr. William Roelkey Sr.

Mr. William Noah Roelkey Sr., 80, of Knoxville, passed away on Monday, January 29, 2007, at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Veleria T. Roelkey. They were married almost 50 years.

Born July 23, 1926, in Knoxville, he was the son of the late David Henry Roelkey II and Helen Hightman Roelkey.

He was a brakeman and a conductor on the B&O; Railroad for 46 years until his retirement.

Mr. Roelkey was a member of the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. He was a farmer and also a member of the Long Pond Rod Gun Club. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed being at home and spending time with his family.

In addition to his loving wife, Veleria, he is survived by three children, William N. Roelkey Jr. of Rosemont, Karen Bartlett-Smith and husband Cole of Walkersville and Mark Alan Roelkey Sr. and wife Mary of Rosemont; five grandchildren, Mark Roelkey Jr., Brittney Bartlett, Matthew Roelkey, Max Roelkey and William Roelkey III; one sister, Mary Simpson of Lovetsville, Va.; and two brothers, Robert Roelkey III of Boonsboro and Albert Roelkey of Brownsville. He will also be remembered by his numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his five sisters, Ellen Roelkey, Martha Roelkey, Nina Filler, Helen Ryan and Lillian Harwood; and four brothers, David Roelkey III, John Roelkey, Oliver Roelkey and Warren Roelkey.

The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100 N. Maple Ave., Brunswick, on Thursday, Feb. 1, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be at the funeral home on Friday, Feb. 2, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Wendell McClellan officiating.

Family members will serve as pallbearers.

Interment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

Mr. Ronald Stevens

Mr. Ronald Lee Stevens, 66, of Monrovia, died Monday, January 29, 2007, at his home.

He was the beloved husband of Dorothy M. Engholm Stevens.

Born July 11, 1940, in Terre Haute, Ind., he was the son of the late Roy Williams Stevens and the late Bessie Mildred Sauls Stevens.

Mr. Stevens served in the U.S. Navy from 1957 to 1961. He loved spending quality time with his family and friends. He enjoyed playing golf and also was an avid reader.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two loving sons, Sean Christopher Stevens and fiancee Jacqueline Marsh and Erin Lee Stevens and wife Ana; two grandchildren, Ian Christian Stevens and Juliana Stevens; and two step-grandchildren, Juan Carols Mata and Gustavo Mata; brother, Roy Stevens; and sister, Shirley Rousch.

He was preceded in death by two children, Courtney Leigh Stevens and Ian Christian Stevens; and a brother, Larry Stevens.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, at Molesworth-Williams P.A., Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2, at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Providence Methodist cemetery, Kemptown.

Ms. Margaret Vongsavang

Ms. Margaret "Peggy" Ann Vongsavang, 52, of Frederick, died Saturday, January 27, 2007, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Born July 29, 1954, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Eugene Weldon Orndorff and the late Bonnie Marie Anderson Orndorff.

She was a 1972 graduate of Richard Montgomery High School, Rockville. Peggy loved spending quality time with her family and friends. She enjoyed being a full-time mother and grandmother. Peggy thrived on family gatherings, especially cookouts. She also enjoyed working on arts and crafts projects and listening to country music. Peggy was an avid fan of NASCAR, following the late legendary Dale Earnhardt Sr., who drove the #3 car.

Peggy is survived by two loving children, a daughter, Shannan Palazzo and husband Shane; a son, Phillip Vongsavang and wife Hannah; four grandchildren, Kyra and Jordyn Palazzo and Mia and Pailin Vongsavang; eight siblings, Paul Duvall and wife Sandy, Jeannene Stottlemyer and husband Charles, Michael Orndorff and wife Suzan, Dawn Engle and husband Ricky, Mary Daugherty and husband Wayne, April Ojeda and husband Julio and Dianh Shock.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Fare; and her stepmother, Jacqueline Orndorff.

Friends may call 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, at Molesworth-Williams P.A., Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Rd., Damascus, MD 20872.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, at the funeral home.

Interment will be private.

Mr. William Watkins Sr.

Mr. William Frederick Watkins Sr., 83, of Frederick, died on Tuesday, January 30, 2007, at the Kline Hospice House, Mount Airy.

He was the husband of June B. Miller Watkins.

Born May 21, 1923, in New Market, he was a son of the late Clifford and Edna Watkins.

Mr. Watkins graduated from Frederick High School and served in the United States Navy during World War II.

He was employed as a carpenter for many years with Floyd Culler Contracting, Frederick, and later enjoyed working around the local area with home projects for area friends and family. He was a masterful carpenter and loved woodworking. Mr. Watkins was a devoted father and grandfather and loved spending time with his family.

Besides his wife, he is survived by four children, William F. Watkins Jr. and wife Beverly of Myersville, Teresa Palmer and husband John of Middletown, David Watkins and wife Vanessa of New Market and Steven Watkins and wife Sherryl of Myersville; three step-children, Russell Oates and wife Becky of Martinsburg, W.Va., Cindy Barbee and husband Chip of Purcelville, Va., and David Oates and wife Wanda of Yellow Springs, Va.; grandchildren, Nicole Fitzpatrick and husband Dan, William F. Watkins III, Susan Palmer, Jeff Palmer and wife Marlene, Robby Oland, Zach Watkins, Lindsey Kindred and husband Ben, Kyle Watkins, Jacob Watkins, Heather Keyser, Cara Oates and Austin Oates; one great-grandchild, Auric Kindred; and a number of step-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He will also be remembered by cousins, Bill Browning and Tom Browning; and special friends and neighbors, Bill and Barbara Grimes.

He was preceded in death by four siblings, Clifford Watkins Jr., Charles Watkins, Paul Watkins and Charlotte Zimmerman.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, from the Faith Reformed Presbyterian Church, 8158 Yellow Springs Road, Frederick. Pastor John F. Armstrong Jr. will officiate. Private interment will be at the Providence cemetery, Kemptown.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Kline Hospice House, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702-1799.
