Mr. Ricky McKinney

Mr. Ricky Lee McKinney, 45, of Gaithersburg, died Friday, January 26, 2007, at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. He was the husband of Cindy McKinney.
Born November 28, 1961, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of Ann McKinney and the late Howard McKinney.
Ricky was a 1980 graduate from Robert E. Peary High School in Rockville. He was an employee of the Executive Residence White House for 25 years, where he was a foreman of operations.
Ricky was an avid fan of Elvis, NASCAR, the Cincinnati Reds and the New York Jets.
Ricky is survived by his daughter, Emma McKinney; brother, Mike McKinney and wife, Donna; nephews, Jeremy and Sean McKinney, all of Gaithersburg; in-laws, Micky and Mary Ann Pearson of Mount Airy; sister-in-law, Mary Peters and husband Neil of Severna Park; and nephew, Wesley Peters of Santa Cruz, Calif. Ricky will be remembered by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Friends may call 3 to 5 p.m. today, at Molesworth-Williams P.A., Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus. Funeral services and interment will be private.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorial contributions to the Emma McKinney Education Fund, c/o Mary Peters, 45 Truck House Road, Severna Park, MD 21146.

Mr. Russell Alton Miller

Mr. Russell Alton Miller, 81, of Thurmont, died Thursday, January 25, 2007, at the Sinai Hospital in Baltimore. He was the husband of Betty Louise Baker Miller, whom he married June 16, 1997.
Born July 16, 1925, in Thurmont, he was a son of the late Charles Edward and Mary Brown Miller.
Mr. Miller served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Panama. He had been employed at Ideal Buick, Key Chevrolet and Mercers Transportation as a mechanic. He attended the Methodist Church and was a member of the AMVETS Post 7 of Thurmont.
Surviving, besides his wife at home, are three stepchildren, John Wantz of Thurmont, Debbie Trimmer and husband Bob of Union Bridge and Jody Stimmel and husband Wilbur of Citra Fla.; 10 step-grandchildren; numerous step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Nellie Buhrman of Foxville; and a brother, Charles Miller of Thurmont. Many nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Virginia Stottlemyer; a sister, Thelma Price; and a brother, Edgar Miller.
Mr. Miller is at the Robert E. Dailey & Son Funeral Homes, P.A., 615 E. Main St., Thurmont, where friends ma call from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30 at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Blue Ridge cemetery, Thurmont.

Ms. Shirley Ann Davis Pomroy

Ms. Shirley Ann Davis Pomroy, 71, of Frederick, and formerly of Romney, W.Va., died Thursday, January 25, 2007, at the Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, Va.
Born July 3, 1935 in Romney, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Dewey D. and Lula P. (Ganoe) Davis.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Dewey Dailey Davis.
Shirley was a 1953 graduate of Romney High School and was an American Greeting Card employee in the Frederick area for 20 years.
She is survived by two sons, Robert Neal Pomroy of New York City, N.Y., and Thomas Allison Pomroy of Baltimore; two sisters, Harriet "Johnny" Griffith of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Patty Phillips of Bloomfield, Conn.; and three grandchildren, Taylor, Max and Chase Pomroy.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, at the Shaffer-Warnick Funeral Home in Romney, W.Va. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29, at the funeral home, with Pastor Jim Holt officiating.
Interment will follow at the Ebenezer cemetery in Romney.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society, South Atlantic Division Inc., Hampshire Unit, PO Box 873, Charleston, WV 25323-0873.

Mr. Frank Holmes

Mr. Frank Starritt Holmes, 94, of Mount Airy, died on Thursday, January 25, 2007, at Lorien Life Center, Mount Airy. He was the husband of the late Eunice Virginia Hilt Holmes who died on April 7, 2006. They were married on February 25, 1939.
Born on February 18, 1912, in Tannersville, Va., he was one of 12 children of the late George Pemberton and Alice Williams Holmes. He was a 1933 graduate of Mount Airy High School. In 1948, he founded Holmes Tire Service in Poplar Springs. Three years later he moved the business to 204 E. Ridgeville Blvd. in Mount Airy and sold the business to his son in 1977.
Starritt was a member of Howard Chapel-Ridgeville United Methodist Church, where he was a past president of the Methodist Men; the Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Company, Inc., the Mt. Airy 55 Plus Club and a former member of the Mount Airy Lion's Club. Mr. Holmes served two terms on the Mount Airy Town Council and was a 2006 inductee in the Mount Airy Hall of Fame. He had that rare quality of bringing out the best in people and those who knew him always felt better about themselves after being around him.
Surviving are a son, L. Patrick Holmes and wife Sandra of Mount Airy; two grandsons, James Patrick Holmes of Thurmont and Jon Charles Holmes of Vienna, Va.; a sister, Isabelle Windsor of Mount Airy; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He will also be remembered by good family friend, Marjorie Van Sant of Mount Airy
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 28, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mount Airy, where services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 29, with his pastor, the Rev. Donald Howard officiating.
Interment will be in Pine Grove cemetery, Mount Airy.

Mrs. Waunita Hoover

Mrs. Waunita "Shorty" Lagrita Hoover, 79, of Germantown, died Wednesday, January 24, 2007, at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, following a brief illness.
She was born March 8, 1927, in Hagerstown.
Her husband, Layton B. Hoover, predeceased her in 1976.
Mrs. Hoover was a homemaker for most of her adult life. She was a life member of the Women of the Moose, Chapter 347, Frederick. She loved collecting elephants, dancing, going to yard sales and spending time with her entire family.
Surviving are sons Jesse L. Hoover, with whom she resided, Roger D. Hoover of Germantown and Ronald W. Hoover and wife Barb of Gettysburg, Pa.; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a special nephew, James Hoover of Rockville. She was predeceased by daughter-in-law Frankie Hoover.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 11802 Liberty Rd., Libertytown. Interment will be in Resthaven cemetery, Hagerstown. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, Jan. 27, and Sunday, Jan. 28, from 7 to 9 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to Moose Heart, c/o Moose Charities, 155 S. International Drive, Mooseheart, IL 60539-1100.

Mrs. Mary Jane Harrington

Mrs. Mary Jane Harrington, 75, of Emmitsburg, died Wednesday, January 24, 2007, at her home. She was the wife of 57 years to Earl E. Harrington.
Born on October 14, 1931, in Laurel, she was the daughter of the late Maimi Elizabeth (Hume) and Lucian Dallas Minnick. A homemaker, Mary was a volunteer for many years at the Emmitsburg Elementary School Library. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Emmitsburg.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Besides her husband, she is survived by 10 children, Earl Harrington III and wife Robin of Gaithersburg, Michael Harrington and wife Allison of Frederick, Ken Harrington and wife Joyce of Emmitsburg, Richard Harrington and wife Christine of Fairfield, Pa., Bernie Harrington and fiancee Debbie Wallace of Walkersville, Andrew Harrington and wife Lynn of New Market, Robert Harrington and wife Tammy of Emmitsburg, Neal Harrington and wife Theresa of Fairfield, Mary Ann Tyler and husband Norman of Fairfield and Paul Harrington and wife Stephanie of Emmitsburg; 24 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; six siblings; and many nieces and nephews. She will also be remembered by her close friend, Ann Valentine of Emmitsburg. Mary was also preceded in death by seven other siblings.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main St., Thurmont, where the family will be in attendance from 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 100 N. Seton Ave., Emmitsburg, with Father Vincent O'Malley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, where eight of her sons will serve as pallbearers.

Mrs. Lucy Kelley

Mrs. Lucy Mary McElfresh Kelley, 94, of Stephens City, Va., died Tuesday, January 23, 2007, at her residence. She was born January 16, 1913, in Thurston, the daughter of Annie Belle House McElfresh and Thomas Still McElfresh.
Mrs. Kelley was executive secretary to the vice president of the Association of American Railroads, and later executive assistant to the president of the St. Lawrence Seaway Association, both in Washington, D.C. She was also the secretary/treasurer of the Association of American Railway Business Women. She has been a member of Mount Olivet United Methodist Church in Arlington, Va., since 1954.
When she retired, she moved to her mountain home abutting the Appalachian Trail in the Blue Ridge Mountains of far western Loudoun County, west of Hillsboro, where she spent much of her time gardening and enjoying the woods. She was active in the senior luncheon group of the Between-The-Hills Community Association, and the AARP, and also attended the Methodist Church on Chestnut Hill Road in Jefferson County, W.Va., until she stopped driving. She moved to the Amerisist Senior Living Residence in Stephens City three years ago.
She is survived by a son, John E. Kelley of Washington, D.C.; a daughter, Linda Lee Kelley of Winchester, Va.; a brother, William T. McElfresh of Pensacola, Fla.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Private services will be held at a later date. Jones Funeral Home, Winchester, is handling arrangements.

Mrs. Margaret Leatherman

Mrs. Margaret E. Stewart Leatherman, 87, of Frederick, passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2007, at the Frederick Memorial Hospital.
She was the wife of William Woodrow Leatherman. They were married for 68 years.
Born September 20, 1919, in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late John and Lucy Stewart.
She was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Frederick. Margaret was a life member of the Lewistown Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary, the Junior Fire Company Auxiliary and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She loved crocheting, traveling and playing Trash. Margaret was also a member of the McDonald's Breakfast Club on 7th Street.
In addition to her loving husband, William, she is survived by a sister, Olive S. Rudderow and husband Samuel of Frederick, and a special niece, Gail Hoover-Smith and husband Robert of Middletown. She will also be remembered by her numerous nieces, nephews and her special friends.
She is preceded in death by sister Edna S. Wright, sister Helen M. Stewart; a brother, John H. Stewart Jr.; a sister, Norma S. Killingsworth; a brother, Hasson O. Stewart; and a sister, Peggy L. Ligocki.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at the funeral home, with the Rev. David G. Oravec officiating.
Interment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lewistown Volunteer Fire Company, 11101 Hessong Bridge Road, Thurmont, MD 21788; or to the American Diabetes Association, 800 Wyman Park Drive, Suite 110, Baltimore, MD 21211.

Dr. Gunnar B. Lund

Dr. Gunnar B. Lund, MD, former associate professor of radiology and longtime faculty at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, passed away on January 11, 2007, after a long struggle with esophageal cancer.
Dr. Lund was born in Norway on October 16, 1949. He received his medical degree at Royal College of Surgeons, Dublin, Ireland, in 1974. After the completion of his residency in Diagnostic Radiology in Norway, Dr. Lund came to the United States in 1982 for a fellowship in Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology at the University of Minnesota. While in Minnesota, he met his future wife, Dr. Mary E. (Betsy) Smith. After a brief passage at the University of Nebraska, Dr. Lund joined the faculty at Johns Hopkins University. It was at Johns Hopkins that Dr. Lund became nationally and internationally renowned in the field of vascular and interventional radiology, especially for his contributions to the management of patients with chronic renal failure. He had published over 160 articles, had lectured internationally on a variety of subjects and was a Fellow of the Society of Interventional Radiology. Dr. Lund was a remarkably gifted and talented interventional radiologist, respected educator and esteemed clinician, who has trained many of the country's finest interventional radiologists. Those who knew him well say that he was an uncompromising physician who defined excellence.
In 1990, Dr. Lund and Dr. Smith moved to the New Market farm that they called home. His devotion and hard work can be seen in the lovingly restored historic home and barns they had built to establish a quality breeding, training and show facility which offers German and American Hanoverian dressage horses, many of which have won national breed and show recognition.
In addition to his wife, Dr. Lund leaves behind his sister, Anine G. Ronning, and brother, Carl Fredrik Lund, both of whom reside in Norway with their families.
A memorial service with reception to celebrate his life and accomplishments will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, at the family farm Hall's Choice Farm, 11258 Crickenberger Road, New Market, MD. Directions: I-70 to Exit 62 North on Md. 75 for 1 1/2 miles. Turn left on Old New London Road, then immediately straight onto Crickenberger Road. Go 1 mile on Crickenberger to 11258. Farm entrance is through the iron gates on the right.

Mrs. Bettie Bohn

Mrs. Bettie Stultz Bohn, 82, a native resident of Frederick County, who dedicated nearly four decades of service to Frederick Memorial Hospital, passed on Tuesday evening, January 23, 2007, at Homewood at Crumland Farms, where she had been a resident since 2000.
She was the wife of the late Nelson Ranson Bohn, whom she married September 1943 in Sioux City, Iowa. Mr. Bohn died in March 1985.
Born in Frederick, September 30, 1924, Mrs. Bohn was a daughter of the late George William Sr. and Florence Mabel Kreh Stultz.
Mrs. Bohn attended local schools and graduated from Frederick High School in 1941.
She served on the Frederick Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Board of Directors from 1970 to 1979, acting as treasurer from 1970 to 1977, and as president from 1978 to 1979. From 1963 to 1979, Mrs. Bohn contributed to the efforts of nearly 20 different areas of Auxiliary service. She ultimately contributed 10, 311 hours of service over the course of 39 years.
She is survived by three sons, Phil Bohn and fiancee Patricia Titus of Frederick, William Bohn and wife Brenda of Braddock Heights and Robert Bohn of Sarasota, Fla.; as well as three grandchildren, Charnel Bohn, Chad Bohn and wife Kristin and Craig Bohn. Also surviving is her brother, Travers Stultz and wife Sallie of Atlanta, Ga.; sister, Miriam Elizabeth Parrott and husband Frank Parrott, M.D., of Salisburg, N.C.; sister-in-law, Hazel D. Stultz of Frederick.
Of her many valued friends, she held special regard for Jean Rutledge, Charlotte Clem-Langbehn, Amy Klimas and Nan Principe-Crockett.
Mrs. Bohn was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald W. Stultz and wife Anita and G. William Stultz Jr.
The family will receive friends at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick, from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. The Rev. Burnis D. Barrett, a pastor of the Baptist Church, will officiate. Interment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to either the Frederick Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, 400 W. Seventh St., Frederick, MD 21701; or Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702-1799.

Mr. John Cooper

Mr. John Paul Cooper, 76, of Thurmont, died Wednesday, January 24, 2007, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
Born November 14, 1930, in Beckley, W.Va., he was a son of the late John Clayton Cooper and Pina Mae Williams Cooper.
He was a retired brick mason and owned J.P. Cooper & Son, Thurmont.
He was of the Lutheran faith.
He was a veteran of the Korea War, serving in the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 54 years, Elaine Stover Cooper, at home; one daughter, Diane O'Brien of Thurmont; one son, David P. Cooper and friend Vicki Kemp of Thurmont; three grandchildren, Benjamin S. Cooper and wife Kelli of Charles Town, W.Va., Christina Moore and husband Tyler of Fort Bragg, N.C., and Dallas Ricketts II of Las Vegas, Nev.; one sister, Christine Coffman of Thurmont; a sister-in-law, Bernice Cooper of Walkersville; devoted nephew, Ken Williams; several other nieces and nephews; and two close friends, Jim and Linda Wastler.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Christine E. Cooper; one sister, Mary C. Lehrl; and four brothers, J. Andrew Cooper, S. Buford Cooper, Lewis Cooper and Joe Cooper.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, at Robert E. Dailey and Son Funeral Home, 615 E. Main St., Thurmont. The Rev. Larry Eby will officiate.
Burial will be in St. John's cemetery, Creagerstown.
The family will receive friends at the Dailey Funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Arrangements are by John T. Williams Funeral Home, 100 Petersville Rd., Brunswick.

Mr. Richard Hibble

Mr. Richard Wayne Hibble, 49, of Mount Airy, died Sunday, January 21, 2007, at his home.
He was born September 6, 1957, in Bethesda, the son of Jeannette B. Hibble (nee Belfield) of Salisbury and the late Clarence U. Hibble Jr.
He graduated from Wheaton High School, class of 1975. He was a master plumber/project manager for Mallick Plumbing and Heating, Gaithersburg, for 10 years. He was a graduate of Associated Building and Contractor and of Piedmont Community College of Taxidermy. He was a member of the National Taxidermist Association, Maryland Taxidermist Association and the National Rifle Association. He was an avid sportsman and outdoorsman, an extremely proud grandpa and a great friend to all.
He was the father of Rikki Cruz of Fort Hood, Texas, and Shawn T. Hibble of Mount Airy. He was the grandfather of Jaden M. Cruz of Fort Hood, Texas. He was the brother of Gregory L. Hibble of Chester, Deborah J. Blake of Ocean Pines and Thomas D. Hibble of Ocean City. He was the beloved boyfriend of Carrie Stewart of Mount Airy.
Friends may call at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield (beside South Carroll High School), Friday, Jan. 26, from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m., with a service at 7 p.m.
Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Jaden M. Cruz Trust Fund c/o Mallick Plumbing Co., 8010 Cessna Ave. Gaithersburg, MD 20879.
Arrangements were made by Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, P.A., Winfield.
