Mr. Harry Durant Jr.

Mr. Harry Greenwood Durant Jr., 80, of Frederick, and formerly of New Carrollton, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008, at the Vindobona Nursing Home. He was the husband of Jean Geanopoulos Durant.

He was born in Bromley, Ala., Nov. 13, 1927, he was a son of the late Harry Greenwood, Sr., and Lillian Charlton Durant.

Mr. Durant proudly served his country in the United States Navy, and was retired as a technician for Motorola.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his two sons, Dr. Michael S. Durant and wife, Jane, of Middletown, and Andrew G. Durant and wife, Diane, of Alexandria, Va.; four grandchildren, M. Scott Durant and wife, Andrea, and Megan Durant, all of Frederick, Jordan Durant Guttierrez and husband, Geovanny, and Hannah Durant, all of Alexandria, Va.; and his great-grandson, Grayson.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Aug. 8, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 9, from the funeral home. The Rev. Dr. Susan R. Halse, pastor of the Middletown United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will be at 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 11, in the Ivy Hill cemetery, Alexandria, Va.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Georgetown Hospital, Lombardy Cancer Center, 3800 Reservoir Road, N.W., Washington, DC 20007.

Mr. Edward Wooden

Mr. Edward J. "Woody" Wooden, 88, of Mount Airy died on Tuesday, August 5, 2008, at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Mount Airy. He was the husband of Eloise Elizabeth Frizzell Wooden.

Born Aug. 5, 1920, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Thomas Leo and Mary G. Brown Wooden. He was a truck driver. Mr. Wooden was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army. Woody enjoyed going to flea markets and was a Baltimore Colts fan.

Surviving in addition to his wife are brother and sister-in-law, Ed and Patsy Smith of Mount Airy; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Wooden was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.

Private services will take place at Stauffer Funeral Home in Mount Airy with interment in Lake View Memorial Park, Sykesville.

Mr. Philip Alder

Philip Wayne Alder, 67, of Mount Airy, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008, at home.

He was the spouse of Mitzie Amanda (Wright) Alder of Mount Airy.

He was born Oct. 14, 1940, in Lee County, Va., the son of the late Calvin James Alder and Stella Mae Parks Alder. He was a machine operator for Henkles and McCoy.

Surviving in addition to his wife are son, Keith Wayne Alder of Hanover, Pa.; daughter, Holly Ann Luckabaugh of Hanover, Pa.; grandchildren, Crystal Renee Luckabaugh, Dwayne Edward Luckabaugh and Brittney E. Luckabaugh; great-grandson, Jacob Wilson Luckabaugh. Preceded in death by brother John C. Alder.

Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday Aug. 9, Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, P.A., 1212 W.Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784 with Bishop Charles Schman of Mount Airy Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home 1 hour prior to the funeral service . Interment will be in Pleasant Ridge cemetery, Woodbine.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society Eldersburg Office, 1393 Progress Way Ste 908 Eldersburg, MD 21784, or The Alder family to help defer funeral expenses.

Mr. Charles Fultz

Mr. Charles E. Fultz, 74, of Thurmont, passed away peacefully at home Aug. 4, 2008. He was the husband of Frances I. Fultz, his wife of 44 years.

Born Sept. 1, 1933, in Frederick, he was the son of the late William and Sophia Fultz. He graduated from Frederick High School and served in the U.S. Army in Korea. After his service overseas, he returned to the Frederick area and began his apprenticeship as a plumber. He mastered the trade, and worked for many years until disability forced his retirement.

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his brother, Morris Fultz and wife, Wanda; two sons, Charles W. Fultz and wife, Wanda, and David E. Fultz and wife, Deborah; three grandchildren, Denise Hanton and husband, Andy, David Fultz and wife, Julie, and Shaun Fultz; a great-grandchild, Haylie; stepchildren, Sylvia Matz and John Harley Jr., He is also survived by his good friend and cousin, Butch Keeney, and his beloved dog, Spike.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at the Chapel Mausoleum of Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 U.S. Route 15 N in Frederick. Inurnment with military honors will follow in the Veterans Garden of Honor II at Resthaven. Floral tributes are welcome, and may be delivered to the Chapel Mausoleum.

Mrs. Lina Danner

Lina Mae Danner, 88, Lovettsville, Va., died at her home Aug. 6, 2008.

She was born Feb. 18, 1920, to the late Jess and Daniel W. Beamer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Danner Sr.; daughter, Patricia Danner; and her four brothers, Willard, Michael, Luther (Tom Pete), and Robert (Bill).

She is survived by her son and wife, Harry Jr. (Tommy) and Kathy, of Charles Town, W.Va.; daughter and husband, Thelma and Ron Scell of the home; and daughter, Evelyn Cunningham of Winchester, Va.; a half-sister, Edna Shumaker of Ashburn, Va.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was a lifelong resident of the Lovettsville area. She was a member of the Rosemont Alliance Church in Rosemont. She loved to work in her flowers and her garden and loved to watch birds. She loved to talk about her family and how she grew up.

The funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8, at the Rosemont Alliance Church, Rosemont, with the burial at the Union cemetery in Lovettsville. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Aug. 7. Funeral arrangements will be handled by Brown's Funeral Home, in Lovettsville, Va.

Mr. Frankie E. Lydard Sr.

Frankie Eugene "Greek" Lydard Sr., 71, of Jefferson Pike Jefferson, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008, at the Frederick Memorial Hospital in Frederick.

Born Nov. 24, 1936, in Montgomery County, he was the son of the late Thomas and Annie (Nicholes) Lydard. He attended the Poolsville area schools.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was employed by Rockingham Electric Company & C.W. Wright. He was a member of the Gaithersburg Eagles Club.

He is survived by a son, Frankie E. Lydard Jr. of Boonsboro; daughters, Deborah S. Griffith of Boonsboro and Vickie L. Zawoysky of Middletown; brother-in-law and friend, Harry Carbaugh of Jefferson; sister, Janet Fitz of West Virginia; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.

There will be no viewing.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date and time.

Memorial donations may be made to the Frankie E. "Greek" Lydard Sr. burial fund in care of J.L. Davis Funeral Home, 12525 Bradbury Ave., Smithsburg, MD 21783.

Mrs. Hildur Pauley

Mrs. Hildur Victoria Pauley (nee Johnson), 83, of Frederick, and formerly of Reading, Pa., passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008, at her home. She was the wife of the late Robert Edward Pauley.

She was born in Maspeth, Long Island, N.Y., June 15, 1925, as the daughter of the late Victor and Sigrid Johnson. She was a graduate of Bay Ridge High School of Brooklyn, N.Y.

Mrs. Pauley had worked for many years as an administrative assistant. She was a member of Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, Reading, Pa. She loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed needle point, knitting and many other activities.

Surviving are her are two daughters, Cathy Elaine Kutz and husband, Thomas, of Frederick, and Carol Ann Filippini and husband, Benito, of Fleetwood, Pa.; two grandchildren, Christianna H. Kutz and Melissa A. Martz; and two great-grandchildren, Athena V. Brenneman and Connor R. Martz. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Irene Meredith.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Gloria Caputo and Florence Olson and by her brother, Edgar Johnson.

Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, from Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, North Fourth and Windsor streets, Reading; the Rev. Robert G. Kaltenbaugh will officiate. Interment in Charles Evans cemetery. Friends received from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, at the church.

Arrangements are by Bean Funeral Home and Crematory, Sinking Spring.

Dr. David E. Lazerow

Dr. David E. Lazerow died Aug. 7, 2008.

He was the beloved husband of the late Hessie Lazerow (nee Light); beloved father of Arthur S. (Tina) Lazerow of Bethesda, Carl (Naomi) Lazerow of Frederick and Bruce (Michelle) Lazerow of Potomac; devoted brother of the late Blanche Kammen, Sol, Julius and Samuel Lazerow; survived by 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, at Sol Levinson & Bros., Inc., 8900 Reisterstown Road, Mount Wilson Lane. Interment will be held in Baltimore Hebrew cemetery, Berrymans Lane.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Baltimore Hebrew Congregation, 7401 Park Heights Ave., Baltimore, MD 21208.

Ms. Cynthia Murphy

Ms. Cynthia Irene "Cindy" Murphy, 40, of Germantown, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008, at Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C., as a result of injuries sustained in an accident.

Born April 13, 1968 in Frederick, she was the daughter of Rockne E. and Lillian A. Murphy of Ijamsville.

Cindy was a 1986 graduate of Linganore High School and a 1988 graduate of Frederick Community College.

She was employed as a senior project coordinator in the McLean, Va. office of JPI (a construction company based in Texas).

She was a member of Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Gaithersburg and faithfully participated in a Small Faith Community group.

Cindy was a sports enthusiast and was a dedicated member of her local fitness club. She played volleyball in high school and on various community teams, and she participated in Cycle Across Maryland. She was a 10-year member of the Frederick County 4-H program and won numerous awards, mainly in baking and sewing.

Cindy baked all the time and she loved to decorate cakes for family birthdays and special events, especially cartoon and action characters for her nephew, Brandon.

She was an avid country music fan and loved going to Nashville for the annual CMA festival. Cindy loved to read and always had at least one library book checked out at any given time.

Cindy loved animals, especially her kitten Pumpkin, and she enjoyed collecting panda bears. She had a love for gardening, and especially loved planting flowers in the springtime.

She enjoyed traveling and especially loved her trips to Hawaii, San Francisco, the Grand Canyon area, and Idaho. Cindy loved vacationing in Ocean City with her family every summer. One of her traveling highlights was last year's Disney World trip with her nephew, Brandon.

Cindy's travels also led her to helping the community. The summer after Hurricane Katrina, she and a friend went to New Orleans for a week to volunteer with the rebuilding effort.

Cindy was always kind, giving and loving, and helping everyone with whatever they needed, especially her Aunt Jane. Cindy's generous spirit lives on through organ and tissue donation.

In addition to her mother and father, she is survived by two sisters, Barbara M. Kromer and husband, Rick of Rockville and Anita M. Evans and husband, Zachary of Ijamsville; one brother, John E. Murphy of Ijamsville; a nephew, Brandon A. Evans of Ijamsville; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Cindy was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Charles E. and Mamie W. Murphy; maternal grandparents, Roy A. and F. Irene Arnold; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick.

A mass of Christian burial will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, at Saint Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church, 4103 Prices Distillery Road, Ijamsville. Officiating will be Father Michael J. Jendrek.

Interment will be in Mt. Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

Mr. Thomas Casey

Thomas Francis Casey, 67, died Aug. 6, 2008, at College View Center. Tom was born Jan. 13, 1941, originally from Mt. Carmel, Pa.

Tom lived in Martinsburg, W.Va., until coming to College View Center in 2006. Tom had a variety of occupations but his passion was music, especially as a band member in several rock bands. He was especially proud of the album he made as a member of the band "Heavy Feather." Recently, Tom enjoyed a fishing trip and Keys game with other residents and staff at College View.

Tom will be missed by all of his friends at College View Center.

Mrs. Evelyn Leister

Evelyn K. Leister, 92, of Pleasant Valley, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008, at Homewood Crumland Farms of Frederick.

Born March 18, 1916 in Union Mills, she was the daughter of the late Oliver M. and Jottie (Houck) Koontz. Evelyn was the widow of Guy W. Leister who died June 10, 2006. She was retired from food services of the Carroll County Hospital.

Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Dixie L. Schaefer of New Oxford, Pa.; four grandchildren, Vicki Zepp, Michael and Daniel Schaefer and Caryl Hollinger; four great-grandchildren, Laura and Julia Schaefer and Rebecca and Benjamin Hollinger; one brother, Charles M. Koontz of New Windsor; and one sister, Pauline Rosensteel of Frederick. She was predeceased by two sisters, Grace Wine and Elizabeth Hammond and a brother, Earl Koontz.

Evelyn was a member of St. Matthews U.C.C. of Pleasant Valley; a Willing Workers Sunday school member and Pleasant Valley Ladies Auxiliary member.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 18, at St. Matthews U.C.C. in Pleasant Valley; the Rev. Beverly Stang, Chaplain at Homewood, will officiate. Burial is private in Pleasant Valley cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be donated to Homewood Foundation Benevolent Fund, P.O. Box 250, Williamsport, PA 21795 or Pleasant Valley Community Fire Dept. Ambulance Fund, 2030 S. Pleasant Valley Road, Westminster, MD 21158.
