Mr. Tex Harvey

Mr. Tex Lowell Harvey, 84, of Jefferson, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving wife, Leota; son, Jerry; and granddaughter, Sandi and her husband, Dwayne, Aug. 20, at his residence, as result of a massive stroke.

Born Dec. 14, 1923, in Philippi, W.Va., he was a son of the late Cody and Hallie Crickard Harvey.

Mr. Harvey was a graduate of Philippi High School and then attended Alderson-Broaddus College. He proudly served his country as paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne in World War II. He then taught business administration at Frederick High School for 41 years. He also successfully operated Famiglia Pizza, All-Call Answering Service, and 48 Hour Tax Service before retiring to Jefferson in 2005 at the age of 81, where he lived with his wife, Leota and granddaughter, Sandi and husband, Dwayne.

He is survived by his wife, of 60 years Leota Caroline Benson Harvey; three children, Phillip Harvey and wife, Patricia, of Charlestown, W.Va., Jerry Harvey of Ocean City, and Jennifer Hankey of Frederick; four grandchildren, Ashleigh Parker and husband, Andrew, and Amanda Harvey, all of W.Va.; Anissa Burrell and husband, Tom, of Colonial Beach, Va.; and Sandi Harvey-Hollar and husband, Dwayne, of Jefferson; five great-grandchildren, Ernie Wilhide, Mia Wilhide and Gaeg Hollar all of Jefferson; Trey Burrell and Brittney Burrell both of Colonial Beach, Va. Tex is also survived by a brother, Marshall Harvey of Hagerstown.

We will truly miss our beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather and Pappy (great-grandfather).

Mr. Harvey is at the Robert E. Dailey & Son Funeral Homes, P.A., 1201 N. Market St., Frederick, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at the funeral home with the Rev. Tim May, Pleasant View Church of the Brethren, officiating.

Interment will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, at the Benson Family cemetery, Rt. 57, Philippi, W.Va.

Mr. John Ohler

John Wayne Ohler, 37, of Cascade, died early Thursday morning, Aug. 21, 2008, at his home, following an extended illness.

Born Nov. 23, 1970, in Gettysburg, Pa., he was the son of Guy W. Jr., and Connie L. (Miller) Ohler of Emmitsburg. He was the husband of Lisa D. (Seipler) Ohler, whom he married July 1, 2008.

John attended Catoctin High School and earned his GED in 1994. Until his illness he drove a truck for Coyle Trucking in Thurmont. He enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing and bowling. He was also an avid Yankee and Eagles fan.

Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are daughter, Tiffany Ohler; and stepson, John Spahr Jr., both of Cascade; brother and sister-in-law, Matthew R. Sr., and Shannon Ohler of Emmitsburg; maternal grandmother, A. Patricia Miller of Emmitsburg; and paternal grandfather, Donald V. Cool of Taneytown. Also surviving are many uncles, aunts and cousins. He will be especially remembered by his mother-in-law, Lora Seipler, of Sabillasville.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, with the Rev. Father Jack Lombardi and Pastor Mark A. Hosler co-officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel cemetery at Germantown Church of God in Cascade. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where a prayer service will be held at 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742 or to the American Cancer Society, 8219 Town Center Drive, P.O. Box 43025, Baltimore, MD 21236.

Mrs. Dorothy Elizabeth Chaney

Mrs. Dorothy Elizabeth Chaney, 94, of Westminster, died Tuesday, Aug.19, 2008, at Carroll Lutheran Village, Westminster. She was the wife of the late Prentice Earl Chaney.

Born Sept. 21, 1913, in Maryland, she is the daughter of the late John Charles and Beulah E. (Peregoy) Osborn.

She was a bookkeeper at Montgomery Wards and Hess Country Stores, and also a life member of the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, Reistertown.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Charles P. and Debi S. Chaney of Finsburg; a daughter, Cheryl (Chaney) Wright of Frederick; a granddaughter and husband, Jennifer E. and Jacob Bush of Hapstead, N.C.; grandsons, Harold B. Wright III (Rusty) of Arlington, Va., Andrew P.C. Wright of Arlington, Va., Jeffrey R. Chaney and wife, Elizabeth, of Westminster, Timothy J. Wright of Alexandria, Va., and Scott W. Chaney of Finksburg; great-granddaughter, Emma E. Chaney of Westminster.

Friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, at Eline Funeral Home, 934 S. Main St., Hampstead. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, 15331 Dover Road, Reisterstown. The Pastor Mary Ka Kanahan and Chaplain Jimmie Schwartz and Chaplain Dahl Drenning will officiate. Interment will be in Pleasant Grove cemetery, Reistertown.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 1850 York Road Suite D, Timonium, MD 21093, or Dorothy E. Chaney Endowment fund, Carroll Lutheran Village, 300 St. Luke Circle, Westminster, MD 21158.

Mr. John Kawecki

Mr. John Edward Kawecki, 85, of Frederick, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008, at Homewood at Crumland Farms. He was the husband of the late Annastasia Dans Kawecki.

Born April 26, 1923, in New Britain, Conn., he was the son of the late John and Alexandra Kawecki.

Mr. Kawecki was a member of St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Community and the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Kawecki graduated from Massachussetts Institute of Technology in 1948, with a degree in mechanical engineering. He later obtained a masters in business administration from Case Western Reserve. John was an engineer at Stromberg-Carlson/General Dynamics in Rochester, N.Y., and at North American Philips in Manlius, N.Y. John served his country in the U.S. Army, as an MP in the European Campaign. He enjoyed financial planning, gardening and reading.

He is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Kawecki and husband, Thomas Wright, of Monrovia; and Maryann Waxtel and husband, David, of Westfield, N. J.; grandchildren, Elizabeth Kawecki-Wright, Andrew Waxtel, Samuel Waxtel and Katherine Waxtel; a brother, Bernard Kawecki of Conn.; an aunt, Ann Sienko of Conn.; and a brother-in-law, Anthony Dans of Ohio, and their families. He will also be remembered by his friends and caregivers, Brian Ross, Gibriel and Sainabou Jagne, Karla Bason, Felica Olatunji and Angie Tetteh.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, from St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Community, 4103 Prices Distillery Road, Ijamsville, with Father Michael Jendrek Officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Catholic cemetery, Frederick.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Ignatius of Loyola or to the Homewood Foundation, P. O. Box 250, Williamsport, MD 21795.

Mr. Arthur Brett

Arthur J. Brett 76 of Mount Airy, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008, at his home in Mount Airy.

He was born Sept. 28, 1931, in Milwaukee, Wis. He was the son of the late John and Genevieve Clark Brett. He was the husband of Mary Jane Schuster Brett, his wife of 55 years.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and afterward served in the active reserves where he was a first lieutenant of the artillery. He graduated from Marquette University, Milwaukee, and did graduate work at George Washington University. After college he was a funeral director for his father's funeral home in Milwaukee, Wis. He began working for the Social Security Administration in 1958 which eventually took him in 1964 to its foreign operations at Woodlawn. In 1972, through an agreement between the two agencies, he was transferred to the State Department's Foreign Service as a consular officer with the diplomatic rank of Consul and sent on a five-year assignment to the American Consulate General, Frankfurt, Germany. There he set up the first extensive training on SSA, Veterans Administration and other federal benefit-paying programs at U.S. embassies and consulates in central Europe.

He was an American Legion member for 55 years and held many positions up to the state level. He was twice commander of and was awarded an Honorary Life Membership in American Legion Gold Star Post 191, Mount Airy. Art was a member of Locale 155 La Societe des 40 Hommes et 8 Chevaux (the 40 & 8), an honor society of American Legionnaires, and a member of Mount Airy's VFW Post 10076 Men's Auxiliary. He was also a life member of AMVETS Post 2; Korean War Veterans Chapter 142, and a charter member of the Antietam Camp 3 of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War -- all of Frederick. Also he was the charter vice president and honorary life member of the Piedmont Pacers Volksmarch Club and charter member of Chapter 2306 National Active Retired Federal Employees Association, both of Westminster, and belonged to the Mount Airy Historical Society. He held a third degree in the Knights of Columbus Council 10525 and was a parishioner of St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, both of Poplars Springs. In 2008, Art was inducted into the Mount Airy Hall of Fame in recognition for his volunteer activities with veterans and the community's youth.

Surviving in addition to his wife are daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Roger Bare of Westminster, daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne and Joseph Vaccarino of Sykesville, daughter and son-in-law, Michele and James DiGesare of Franklinville, N.Y; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, PA., 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield. A 3rd degree Knights of Columbus Rosary service and an American Legion Memorial Service will take place during viewing hours. A funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 25, at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church in Poplar Springs, 1125 St. Michael's Road, Mount Airy. Interment to follow in Pine Grove cemetery, S. Main St., Mount Airy.

Mr. Richard Allen Caudill

Mr. Richard Allen Caudill, 43, of Thurmont, died Thursday, Aug. 21, as the result of injuries sustained in an auto accident. He was the husband of Diana J. Shomo Caudill whom he married Feb. 19, 1987.

Born March 9, 1965, in Frederick, he is the son of Nancy May Caudill, of Mount Pleasant, and the late Lawrence Caudill.

He was graduated from Catoctin High School, Class of 1983, and served in the U.S. Army for 10 years. He enjoyed fishing and camping.

Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are two children, Shannon N. Caudill and Dalton M. Caudill, both at home; two sisters, Brenda L. Muller and husband Steven, of Fairfield, Pa., and Rebecca N. Cowley and husband, J.R, . of Hillsboro, Ore.; one brother, Lawrence T. "Tom" Caudill and wife, Gwen, of Frederick; nieces and nephews, Carrie, Joe, Jeffrey, Ryan Muller, Samantha, Brandon, Timmy Caudill, Bradley and Kristen Shafer.

Mr. Caudill is at the Robert E. Dailey & Son Funeral Homes, P.A. 615 E. Main St., Thurmont, where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 25, at the funeral home. The Rev. Richard C. Broome, pastor of Weller United Methodist Church, will officiated.

Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, near Frederick.

Mr. Victor T. Reynolds

Victor T. Reynolds, 92, of Frederick, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, at Glade Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Walkersville.

Born July 14, 1916, in Aurora, Ill., he was the son of the late Benjamin Y. Reynolds and Fern Lewis Reynolds. He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Olive Strickland Reynolds.

For much of his life, Mr. Reynolds was in the residential construction business. He was in sales and management for several builders and developers, including Nationwide Homes, Brosius Homes and Presidential Homes. He later joined the banking industry and was instrumental in opening the first branches of Baltimore Federal Savings and Loan (later First National Bank) in Frederick. He retired as vice president and regional manager for Baltimore Federal's Central and Western Maryland branches.

Mr. Reynolds was a member of the Kiwanis and Sertoma Clubs of Frederick, and served on the vestry at All Saints Episcopal Church for many years. He also enjoyed time with his friends and co-workers in the Chesapeake Investment Club. He relaxed in his vegetable garden or reading one of his several daily newspapers.

Victor was the father of Dale Reynolds and wife, Deborah, of Frederick; Dwight C. Reynolds and Barbara Pilgram of New Market; and Valerie Uhlrich of Dahlonaga, Ga. He is also survived by grandchildren, David Reynolds of Arlington, Va., Matthew Reynolds of Ijamsville, Mary Van Sant of Bradenton, Fla., and Victoria and Mitchell Reynolds of Frederick. Mr. Reynolds was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Cornelia Follman Reynolds.

A memorial service will be held at at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, at Keeney & Basford P.A. Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Western Maryland Alzheimer's Association, 108 Byte Drive, Suite 103, Frederick, MD 21702.

Mrs. Virginia Lee Dinterman

Mrs. Virginia Lee Dinterman, 71, of Frederick, died suddenly Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of John William Dinterman Sr.; they were married for 52 years.

Born in Frederick, July 26, 1937, she was a daughter of the late John and Agnes Heater Wisner.

In her earlier years Mrs. Dinterman, had worked at Sagner's and the Ox-Fiber Brush Co., and for 30 years she and her husband owned and operated Dinterman's Janitorial Services. She had attended the Trinity United Methodist Church, Frederick.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two children, John W. Dinterman Jr., and wife, Jeanne, of Smithsburg; and Tammy L. Dinterman of Frederick; one sister, Joyce Rowe, of Frederick; five grandchildren, Chasity L. Danner and Ashley D. Danner, both of Frederick; Andrew, Aaron and Kyle Dinterman, all of Smithsburg; and one great-grandchild, Kaden Danner, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, James William Wisner, who died March 14, 1995.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 24, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 25, in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. Pastor Lynn Wilson, assistant pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will be in the Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to a charity of one's choice.

Mr. Ernest Arthur Han

Ernest Arthur Hand, 78, of Bella Vista, Ark., formerly of Frederick, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008, at Highland Healthcare & Rehab Center in Bella Vista, Ark.

He was born March, 18, 1930, in Kansas City, Mo., to Clarence Arthur Hand and Goldie Irene Sherman Hand.

He retired in 1986, from the Montgomery County Sheriffs Department with 25 years of service. He served 35 years as a volunteer with the Gaithersburg Fire Department. He was a member of the Frederick Moose Lodge # 371. He was of the Methodist Faith. He married Nancy Lula Pickett Gosnell on June 8, 1976. After retiring he moved to Bella Vista, Ark., in 1996, where he loved the green rolling grassy mountains. He enjoyed woodworking, bluegrass festivals, friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

Mr. Hand is survived by his wife, Nancy Lula Hand of Bella Vista, Ark.; one son, Gregory Ernest Hand and wife, Kay, of Damascus; one daughter, Margaret Marie Reese and husband, Roger, of Jefferson; step-daughter, Debra A. Gosnell-Sabroso; four grandchildren, Patty, Brian, Molly and Ryan; four step-grandchildren, Jason, Tiffany, Angelina, Lukas; and two great-grandchildren.

No services are planned. Arrangements are by the Bella Vista Funeral Home & Crematory, 2258 Forest Hills Blvd., Bella Vista, Ark.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Ernest Hand's name to the Circle of Life Hospice, 901 Jones Road, Springdale, AR 72764.

Mrs. Goldie Pearl Smith Delauter

Goldie Pearl Smith Delauter, 89, of Cavetown, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, at Fahrney Keedy Home & Village of Boonsboro.

Born Jan. 7, 1919, near Smithsburg, she was the daughter of the late George B. & Nora M. (Miller) Smith. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Ora Franklin Delauter whom she married Nov. 20, 1942.

She retired from the Hagerstown Junior College where she worked as a cashier in the dining room. Earlier she & her husband owned & operated a grocery store in Cavetown, for many years. While Ora served in World War II she worked at Montgomery Wards Fashion Department in Hagerstown. She was a member of the Grossnickle Church of the Brethren of Myersville, Ladies Auxiliary of the Smithsburg Volunteer Fire Company, The disabled Americans Veterans Auxiliary & the fifth Armored Division Association.

In addidtion to her husband she is survived by foster son, Harry G. Morningstar Sr. and wife, Louise Ray, of Waynesboro, Pa.; grandchildren, Harry Morningstar Jr. and wife, Jill, Ora Ray Morningstar and wife, Teresa, both of Waynesboro, Pa., and Misti Ray Morningstar Lucente and husband, Richard, of Ijamsville; great-grandchildren Dr. Valera Ray Morningstar, Emily Victoria Morningstar, Elizabeth Clair Morningstar, Victor Ray Morningstar, Christian Ray Lucente and Rebecca Ray Lucente; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sister, s Carrie Victoria Semler, Nora A. Smith Hartle Barnes, Orpha M. Smith; brothers, Gerald M. Smith, George Norman Smith, Stanley S. Smith, Gilbert B. Smith, Morris E. Smith, Lester L. Smith and Ernest J. Smith.

Services will be held at 2: p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, from the J.L. Davis Funeral Home in Smithsburg, with the Rev. H. Ronald Ellis officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown, at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hospice of Washington Co. at 747 Northern Ave. Hagerstown, MD 21742 or the Grossnickle Church of the Brethren at 11318 Meeting House Road, Myersville, MD 21773.
