Mr. Alan Clark

Alan Dwight Clark, 56, of Hagerstown, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008, at his residence.

He was born July 25, 1952, in Brunswick, and was the son of the late Joseph D. Clark and Daisy Bollinger Clark.

He was retired from the National Park Service with the C&O; Canal.

He is survived by one daughter, Brandy Hoffman and husband, Edward; one son, Alan D. Clark Jr., and wife, Yvonne of Hagerstown; two sisters, Geneva Payton of North Beach and Martha Keyes of Leesburg, Va., one brother, Earl Clark of Brunswick; three grandchildren, Christopher Clark, Alan D. Clark III and Cody Clark all of Hagerstown and a very special friend, Debbie Ridenour of Hagerstown.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, at Park Heights cemetery, Brunswick, with Pastor Pete Verphy officiating. Pallbearers will be Edward Hoffman Jr., Edward Hoffman Sr., David Haupt, William Tucker, Christopher Clark and Alan Clark III. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, at the John T. Williams Funeral Home, 100 Petersville Road, Brunswick.

Mr. Leslie Forrest Sr.

Leslie Franklin "Moonie" "AJ" Forrest Sr., 79, of Myersville, died Saturday, Aug. 23, at Golden Livingcenter, Frederick. He was the husband of Thelma Hildebrand Forrest.

Born Oct. 27, 1928, in Brunswick, he was the son of the late Earl Leslie and Willa Frances Steiner Forrest.

Mr. Forrest began his career as an auto mechanic with Litton Chevrolet in Brunswick until 1964, and upon completion of the new Brunswick High School took a position teaching auto mechanics until his retirement in 1988. He than became a school bus mechanic until his final retirement in 1993.

His hobbies included automobiles, fishing and dogs.

He was also a member of the Maryland National Guard.

Surviving, besides his wife, are a son, Leslie Franklin Forrest Jr. and wife, Martha, of Myersville; two grandchildren, Stephanie Forrest Lyons and husband, Scott, of Alphratta, Ga., and Lance Jacob Forrest of Frederick; two sisters-in-law, Linda Fogle and husband, Jerry, of Braddock Heights, and Delores Hovermale of Frederick.

Friends may call anytime Tuesday, Aug. 26, at the Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown. The family will receive friends at the funeral from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, from the funeral home. The Rev. Tracey L. Wiser, pastor of the Harmony Church of the Brethren, Myersville, will officiate. Interment will be made in the Harmony Chuirch of the Brethren cemetery, Myersville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Harmony Church of the Brethren, 3924 Brethren Church Road, Myersville, MD 21773.

Mr. James Carl

James L. Carl, 65, of Taneytown, died unexpectedly Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008, at Carroll Hospital Center.

Born May 7, 1943 in Taneytown, he was the son of the late Lloyd Roosevelt and Blanche Catherine Crum Carl. He was the husband of the late Judith Toms Carl who died in 1993.

James was employed with Black and Decker for 24 years. He also worked in sales with Crouse Ford and Home Beneficial Life Insurance.

He was a member of Taneytown Baptist Church; member, chaplain and past president of the Taneytown Lions Club; member and chaplain of the Taneytown Volunteer Fire Company; and member of the Carroll County and Adams County fire police. He served many years as secretary of the Central Maryland Football Officials Association and secretary/treasurer of the Free State Umpires organization.

He was a member of the University of Maryland Terrapins Club and the Hanover Lancers Drum and Bugle Corps. He was a former member of the Baltimore Ravens Marching Band and a past president of the Francis Scott Key High School Athletic Boosters. He frequently attended worship services at Evangelical Wesleyan Church in Keymar. He enjoyed visiting residents of Lorien Nursing and Rehab Center and the former Angelic Arms Care Center.

He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Patty Carl of Fredericksburg, Va.; son, Jeff Carl of Taneytown; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Mary Carl of Mayberry; granddaughters, Brittany and Stephanie Carl; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 29, at Evangelical Wesleyan Church, 1011 Francis Scott Key Highway, Keymar, with Pastor Fred Horner, Pastor James N. Hosey, and Pastor Gary F. Buchman officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill cemetery, LeGore.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 too 9 p.m. Thursday, at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Mr. Joseph Davis Jr.

Joseph John "Jack" Davis Jr., 67, died at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Aug. 22, 2008. Born on April 23, 1941, in Cumberland, he was the son of Joseph John Davis Sr., and the late Viola Rice.

Mr. Davis graduated from Roanoke High School and attended VPI for one year. He joined the Peace Corps in Columbia, South America, where he spent two years; the last six months of which he surveyed the country for future Peace Corps sites. While attending a bull fight in Bogata, Columbia, he met his future wife, Marilyn Cory.

Jack Davis worked for IBM for 15 years and for the YMCA Conference Center in Estes Park for five years. He maintained a home in Allenspark, Colo., where he was an active member of the community as a volunteer fire fighter. He was a master craftsman of custom furniture, kitchen renovations and decks.

Jack left Allenspark five years ago and came to Frederick to care for his father, who has vision problems. He is survived by this two sons, Sean Andrew Davis and Keith Cory Davis; as well as his former wife, Marilyn Cory Leddy; and his father, Joseph John Davis Sr. Jack is survived locally by his cousins, Linda Sundergill, Allen Wachter, Johnalee Kennedy, Buddy May and Jerry Ann Houck.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, 35 E. Church St., Frederick. Interment will be in Colorado, at a later time. Rev. Dr. David G. Oravec will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Allenspark Volunteer Fire Department, care of Keith Davis, 1507 Elm St., El Cerrito, CA 94530.

Mrs. Dorothy McGivern

Mrs. Dorothy May Morgan McGivern, 88, of Mount Airy, died early Monday morning, Aug. 25, 2008, at Lorien of Mount Airy. She was the wife of the late Eugene G. McGivern.

Born on July 20, 1920, in New Castle, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Tillie Morgan.

Mrs. McGivern worked from 1938-1976 for Shenango China, New Castle, Pa.

Surviving are her daughter, Diane Flood and husband, Joseph, of Mount Airy; grandchildren, Aimee Mann and husband, Bobby, of Mount Airy, Thomas Flood of Ijamsville and Jayme Jaramillo and husband, Fernando, of Damascus; and remembered by great-grandchildren, Logan and Rylie Flood, Tanner, Morgan and Presley Mann and Olivia, Cruz and Owen Jaramillo.

Mrs. McGivern is also survived by brother, Dan Morgan and wife, Frances; and nieces and nephews, Tracie Montanari, Danna Morgan and Donald and David Morgan.

Arrangements are by Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, Damascus. There will not be calling at the funeral home. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, at Mountain View United Methodist Church, 11501 Mountain View Road, Damascus.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, at Oak Park cemetery, New Castle, Pa.

Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the charity of one's choice.

Mrs. Katherine Potter

Mrs. Katherine Marie Potter, 40, of New Market, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Derek L. Potter.

Born in Fairfax County, Va., on Feb. 13, 1968, she was the daughter of Hariton and Patricia Cheris Moschonas of Middletown.

Kathy worked as an administrative assistant at Giai Healing Center in Mount Airy. She held an associate's degree from the Maryland College of Art and Design in Silver Spring and was a member of the Sts. Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband and parents are her daughter, Marina L. Potter, at home; a brother, Louis P. Moschonas of Middletown; one sister, Annamaria D. Legg and husband, Brett, of Moorefield Store, Va.; brother-in-law, Wendell G. Potter and friend, Layla Maldonalnado, of Columbia; three nephews, and her father- and mother-in-law, James L. and Jean Potter, of New Market.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, at the Sts. Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 920 W. Seventh St., Frederick. Father Anastasios Kousoulas, will officiate. Interment will be in the St. Paul's Episcopal cemetery, Point of Rocks.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sts. Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church in memory of Kathy Potter.

Mrs. Catherine Voiles

Catherine "Kay" Brown Davis Voiles, 90, a medical technologist and great-grandmother, died Aug. 23, 2008, of congestive heart failure at Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park.

Mrs. Voiles was born Catherine Brown Davis on Sept. 9, 1917, the eldest of three daughters of Aubrey G. and Ursula B. Davis. She spent her childhood on the family dairy farm near Monrovia in southern Frederick County. With her sisters Cora Lee and Audrey, and many relatives on nearby farms, Kay raised calves for show and attended a local one-room schoolhouse before graduating from Frederick High School in 1934.

After graduation, Kay moved to Washington, D.C., and began a career as a medical technologist. She married Pvt. Wilfred D. Warner (USA) in 1936. One child, Joseph Patrick Warner, was born to them in 1937. The marriage ended in divorce in 1949.

Kay married Horace Voiles of Indiana in Washington, D.C., in 1955. They lived for many years in Washington, where Kay held memberships in American Society for Medical Technology and the District of Columbia Society of Medical Technologists. They attended nearby St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Washington.

After retiring from her work as a supervisor and teacher at Washington Hospital Center in 1979, she and Horace traveled extensively, often aboard the liner SS Queen Elizabeth II. Mr. Voiles died in 1983.

Kay lived in Washington until 2006, visiting friends and taking frequent trips in the United States as well as Greece, France, Ireland, and Morocco with the travel club. She spent her last two years with living with family in Maryland.

Catherine Voiles is survived by her sister, Cora Lee Winchester of Rockville; her son, Joseph P. Warner; two grandsons, Michael (Dorothy) and Steven; and four great-grandchildren, Thomas, Charles, Anne, and Christopher; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Audrey Watkins, in 1982.

Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, at the old chapel of St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church on Urbana Church Road in Urbana. Interment to follow at Mount Olivet cemetery in Frederick. Flowers may be sent to Funeral Home, 621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702. Donations in memory may be sent to St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church, 11801 Claridge Road, Wheaton, MD 20902.

Lance Corporal Travis Stottlemyer

Lance Cpl. Travis M. Stottlemyer, 20, of Hatfield, Pa., died Sunday, Aug. 17, in Manama, Bahrain.

The U.S. Marine died while serving in support of operations in Iraq. He was assigned to the 3rd Fleet Antiterrorism Security Team Company. He died as a result of a non-hostile incident. The incident still remains under investigation.

Besides his parents, Robert E. Stottlemyer and Cheryl Stottlemyer of Hatfield, Pa., he leaves behind three sisters, Tracy Stottlemyer, Andrea Stottlemyer, and Jessica Cramp; one brother-in-law, Jeff Cramp; and Andrea's fianc?, Albert Campbell; four beautiful nieces, Alexis Cramp, Isabel Campbell, Carileigh Cramp, Jocelyn Stottlemyer; four handsome nephews, Avery Campbell, Bradley Cramp, Eli Campbell, Albert Campbell Jr.; grandparents, John and Louise Main of New Market; aunt and uncle, Steven and Christine Clark of Frederick; cousins, Jennifer Clark and fianc?, Ryan Curtis, Morgan Curtis, RyLee Curtis of Thurmont, Gary Clark of Frederick, Uncle Sam (Keith) Stottlemyer of Fayetteville, Pa.; cousins, Michelle Riggs of Frederick, Katilyn Riggs of Frederick, Michael Stottlemyer of Waynesboro, Pa.; and special aunt, Aunt Hope Stottlemyer of Walkersville.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Harry (Sam) Stottlemyer Jr.; great-grandfather, Harry J. Stottlemyer; great-grandmother, Mildred V. Stottlemyer of Dickerson; and by his brother, Jeremy Stottlemyer.

He also leaves behind numerous great-aunts and great-uncles and many of cousins.

His father, Robert (Mel) Stottlemyer was a 1974 graduate of Gov. Thomas Johnson High School, Bob joined the Marine Corps after high school and Travis followed in his father's footsteps and joined the Marine Corps after high school as well. Lance Cpl. Travis Stottlemyer's decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Two Sea Service Deployment Ribbons.

Arrangements are by Williams-Bergey-Koffel Funeral Home, Harleysville, PA 19438.

Mrs. Eva Weedon

Mrs. Eva L. Weedon, 96, of Point of Rocks, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008, at the Golden Living Center in Frederick. She was the wife of the late Reginald Weedon.

Born Oct. 23, 1911, in Point of Rocks, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Ella Whalen Bowins.

Mrs. Weedon was a member of Buckeystown United Methodist Church where was a member of the Woman's Society, a communion steward and sang in the choir. She attended Howard University, in Washington, D. C. for two years. Mrs. Weedon enjoyed going to garage sales and working crossword puzzles.

She is survived by three children James H. Jones Jr. and wife, Vera, of Lake Wales, Fla., Aleta Sims and husband, Julius, of Powder Springs, Ga., and Sylvia Goldman of Jefferson; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers and sisters, Elsie Bowins, Jessie Bowins, George Bowins and Edith Proctor.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Rev. Roger Rollins will officiate. Burial will follow in Fairview cemetery.

Mrs. Nancy E. Noell

Nancy E. Noell died July 29, 2008. She was the beloved wife of Timothy Noell and the loving daughter of Henry M. and Nancy B. Ficken. Mrs. Noell was the devoted sister of Chris Geil and husband, Gary, and Jackie Long and husband, Gary. Six nieces and nephews also survive her.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Aug. 15, at the Calvary United Methodist Church, 131 W. Second St., Frederick, MD 21701.

Mr. Michael L. Smith

Michael L. Smith, of Southbridge, Mass., died Aug. 7, 2008.

He was the devoted son of Patricia Coja and Melvin Smith, stepson of Maurice Coja and Sue Smith, beloved brother of Brenda Akstulewicz, brother-in-law of Frank Akstulewicz, delighted uncle of Ashley Page and Brian Akstulewicz and great uncle to Brett Page. In addition he leaves cherished aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Born in Silver Spring, he was a 1981 graduate of Robert E. Peary High School and managed the family owned Spee-Dee-Que Duplicating Service, Washington, D.C., for many years.

A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday, Aug. 17, at Faith United Methodist Church, 6810 Montrose Road, Rockville.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Boxer Rescue Association, P.O. Box 184, Carmel, IN 46082 or the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, www.cbf.org/site/PageServer?pagename=give_sub_giveagift_honor.

Mrs. Patricia Johnson

Mrs. Patricia Ann Johnson, 58, of Mount Airy, died Monday, Aug. 11, 2008, at her residence. She was the wife of David L. Johnson, they had been together since 1985.

Born July 16, 1950, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of Ann Caruso Catena of Silver Spring and the late Anthony Catena. She was a project manager for Alcaltel-Lucent.

Surviving in addition to her husband and mother are a daughter, Shannon Perry-Harmon and husband, Willy, of Martinsburg, W.Va.; a grandson, William Harmon; a sister, Linda Rebolo and husband, Duarte, of Glendale; and three brothers, Tony Catena and wife, Nancy, of Waldorf, Danny Catena of Chattanooga, Tenn. and Paul Catena and wife, Cheryl, of Shadyside. Patricia was preceded in death by a grandson, Stephen Perry.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd, Mount Airy, and from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, where a memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. with the Rev. George Loar of Bethel Pentecostal Holiness Church, Lonaconing officiating.

Interment will be private.
