Mrs. Judy Brooks

Mrs. Judy Elaine Brooks, 57, of Union Bridge, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2008, at the University of Maryland Hospital, Baltimore, after an extended illness.

Born July 11, 1951, in Frederick, she was the daughter of Helen Albaugh Fritz of New Windsor and the late O. Preston Fritz. She was the wife of Richard A. Brooks, her husband of 34 years.

Mrs. Fritz was a 1969 graduate of Francis Scott Key High School. She was a member of the Union Bridge Church of the Brethren. She was formerly employed at Carroll Community College, Westminster. She enjoyed family activities, being outdoors, sporting events especially University of Maryland basketball and the Orioles.

In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by two daughters, Karen S. Brooks of Arlington, Va., and Amy Brooks Roux and husband, Michael of Birmingham, Ala.; two grandchildren, Abigail Roux and Austin Michael Roux, due in October; three brothers, John P. Fritz and wife, Deborah of New Windsor; Gene A. Fritz and wife, Sue, of Damascus; Jay D. Fritz and wife, Lore, of Taneytown; four nieces, Kimberly Ferris, Kathleen Dodson, Kristina Nixon and Dawn Fritz and two nephews, Jason and David Fritz; and great nieces and great nephews.

A funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 6 E. Broadway, Union Bridge, with the Rev. James Benedict, her pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Pipe Creek cemetery, near Linwood. Pall bearers will be Jason and David Fritz, Michael Roux, Jimmy Dodson, James Nixon and Brian Ferris. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mid-Atlantic District Disaster Relief Auction (MADDRA), P.O. Box 480, New Windsor, MD 21776.

Mr. Robert Booth

Robert E. (Bob) Booth, 69, of Mount Airy, who formerly lived in Laurel for 20 years, died peacefully at his home Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008.

Bob was born Feb. 25, 1939, in Baltimore. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Erma L. (Boone) Booth; brother, David E. Booth Sr.; daughters, Linda McDaniel and Barbara Henney; son, Timothy Booth; and nine grandchildren.

He served in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves from 1957 until 1963 and worked as an Industrial Specialist for the Naval Air Systems Command first at the Washington Navy Yard, then at their offices in Crystal City, Va. He served as Master of Laurel Wreath Lodge 149 in 1970. He also served as secretary for four years, treasurer for 20 years and president of the Laurel Temple Holding Corporation for 10 years. He was currently conducting instruction and holds an honorary membership at Prudence Lodge 190 of Mount Airy.

A Masonic memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, at Poplar Springs United Methodist Church, 915 E. Watersville Road, Mount Airy. A time of visitation with follow the service.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Frederick County, P. O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702.

Miss Frances Darner

Miss Frances Rebecca Darner, 84, Middletown, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008, at Homewood at Crumland Farms, Frerderick.

Born in Middletown, June 18, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Francis H. "Frank" and Ruth Rebecca Holter Darner.

She was a 1941 graduate of Middletown High School and attended Visitation Academy in Frederick.

She was employed with the Potomac Edison Co. in Frederick for 46 years until her retirement.

Frances was a devoted and lifelong member of Christ Reformed United Church of Christ in Middletown; was a member of the church choir for more than 65 years; served as superintendent of the Sunday school for a number of years; was a member of the Torchbearers Sunday school class and also on the altar guild for many years.

She was a lifelong member of the Middletown Valley Grange #331 where she was the secretary; was a member the Frederick County Pomona Grange where she served as secretary; was a lecturer and on the executive committee and was a seventh degree member of the National Grange and attended sessions from the East Coast to the West Coast.

She was member of the Middletown Historical Society, the Frederick County Farm Museum, Middletown Food and Friends and Middletown Senior Citizens and the the Potomac Edison forerunners. She was very active in the Homewood Retirement Center auxillary and was presently the the president, a position she has held for seven consecutive years and was a 16-year member of Homewood executive committee.

She was devoted to helping others in her church and community.

She is survived by several cousins.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, at the chapel of Christ Reformed Church in Middletown. The Grange will hold a memorial service at 8 p.m. at the chapel. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, from the church. The Rev. Mark A. Wakefield, her pastor, will officiate. Intement will be made in the church cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the memorial fund of Christ Reformed Church, P.O. Box 333, Middletown, MD 21769 or to the Homewood at Crumland Farms, 7407 Willow Road, Frederick, MD 21702.

Arrangements are by Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown.

Mr. Anthony Yedinak

Anthony J. Yedinak, "Tony", 72, of Monrovia, passed away Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008, at Washington County Hospital after a long and courageous battle against diabetes and heart disease. He was surrounded by his wife of 42 years, Georgette Yedinak; daughter, Debbie Ridgely; and son, Anthony M. Yedinak.

Born Feb. 9, 1936, in Swoyersville, Pa., he was the son of the late Andrew and Margaret Remetz Yedinak. He was a technical writer for the Department of the Navy, receiving many outstanding awards of service and merit, retiring in 1994 from the Naval Surface Warfare Center, White Oak, after 30 years of service. Tony was a member of St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church in Urbana where he served as an usher, Eucharistic Minister and on several church committees.

He had a love for people and a passion for conversation. He enjoyed helping people with advice and listening to others. He had a multitude of friends who loved him dearly. His hobbies included attending flea markets, restoring antique furniture, woodworking, landscaping, and keeping up on current events. Most of all, he treasured spending time with his family.

Surviving in addition to his wife and children are: son-in-law, Dean Ridgely of Mount Airy; daughter-in-law, Melba Yedinak of Owings Mills; grandchildren, Delanie and Ashley Ridgely of Mount Airy, and Shane Alexander Yedinak of Owings Mills; sister, Mildred Mokris of South Hill, Va., and brothers, Joseph Yedinak and wife, Marlene, of Fishkill, N.Y., and Andrew Yedinak and wife, Lynn, of Olney.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mount Airy. A mass of Christian burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church, 4103 Prices Distillery Road, Ijamsville, with Rev. Michael J. Jendrek as celebrant.

Interment will be in Mount Saint Mary's cemetery, Emmitsburg.

Mrs. Rebecca Harman

Mrs. Rebecca H. Harman, 90, of New Windsor, died Monday, Sept. 1, 2008, at Carroll Hospital Center.

Born Dec. 1, 1917, in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late Harry Milton and Fannie Irene Oland Howard. She was the wife of C. Kenneth Harman, who died in 1976.

Mrs. Harman attended Feageville Elementary School and graduated from Frederick High School. She received her bachelor of science degree from Towson State Teachers College, a master's of education degree from the University of Maryland and took numerous courses from Western Maryland College and Carroll Community College. She taught school for 37 years in Frederick and Carroll counties.

She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, New Windsor, where she formerly taught the Faithful Band Sunday school class for 29 years, sang in the choir and was choir director for 16 years. She was a charter and life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the New Windsor Volunteer Fire Company, a member of the Auxiliary Drill Team for 20 years and was its captain for nine years.

Her other memberships included Carroll County Retired Teachers, Omicron Chapter of International Delta Kappa Gamma Teacher Honor Society, Women of the Moose of Westminster, Auxiliary to V.F.W. Post 8806 of Union Bridge, and the Advisory Board of Carroll Community College from 1979-1993. She was the first woman elected to the New Windsor Town Council and served three terms from 1989 to 2001 and was chairperson of the New Windsor Planning and Zoning Commission from 1977 to 1983.

She was a charter member and the first president of the New Windsor Community Theater and she organized and directed a group of singing youth known as the "Smiling Americans" from 1970-1975. She enjoyed fishing, hunting, world traveling, reading, church music and writing messages, skits and plays for many community organizations and she hosted a television show at the Community Media Center, "The Magic of Poetry."

Mrs. Harman was the last of her immediate family, being predeceased by six sisters and two brothers. She is survived by her devoted friend of 21 years, Charles D. Haines of New Windsor and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews in the Howard and Lockard families.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 200 Main St., New Windsor, with Rev. Helen Armiger, her pastor, officiating. Private interment will be in Pipe Creek cemetery.

There will be no public visitation.

Mrs. Patricia Norris

Patricia Ann Norris, 64, of Brunswick, passed away on Monday, Sept. 1, 2008, at her residence.

She was born May 13, 1944, in Fairfield, Calif., and was the daughter of the late William Arthur Maidens Jr. and Betty Ann Brenner Maidens.

She was a retired computer tech with the Brunswick Elementary School.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Petersville.

She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Mike Norris, at home; one son, Noel Stoner and wife, Shawn, of Charles Town, W.Va.; one daughter, Angie Norris of Brunswick; one brother, William A. Maidens III and wife, Xihua, of Germantown; seven grandchildren, Tommy, Dereck, Cody, Chrissie, Michael, Nicholas and Thailer; one great-grandson, Julius; and one sister-in-law, Mary Reynolds and husband, Dick, of Knoxville.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, at the Eackles-Spencer and Norton Funeral Home, I-340 at Halltown Road, Charles Town/Harpers Ferry, W.Va., with Rev. L.P. Teixeira officiating. Interment will be in Brownsville Heights cemetery at Brownsville.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be John Lewis, Jimmy Lewis, Gene Himes, Brent Garrott, Scott Rinker and Clay Baldwin.

Mrs. Rebecca Hayes

Rebecca Howell Hayes, 38, of Fort Collins, Colo., formerly of Morgantown, W.Va., died suddenly at her home on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008.

Becky was born Oct. 16, 1969, in Morgantown, as a daughter of JoAnn Howell, Alvin Howell and Judith Dinsmore.

She graduated from University High School in 1987 and Concord College in 1992. Becky devoted her life to her children, who were the source of all of her joy. She also enjoyed scrapbooking, sightseeing and photographing the Rocky Mountains and all WVU sports, especially football.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her two adorable sons, Ian and Ayden Hayes, and her husband, Mark Hayes.

Also surviving are two sisters, Kelly and husband, Russell Headley, and Cori and husband, David Cheairs, and brother, David Howell and wife, Megan. She is also survived by nephews, John and Luke Headley, Tristan Wenger, and Clarke Cheairs and nieces, Lauren Headley and Morgan Cheairs.

Mr. John Langley

Mr. John Paul Langley, 79, of Frederick, went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008, at Lorien Healthcare Center, Mount Airy, following a seven-year illness of Lou Gehrig's disease. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Hilda Marston Langley.

Born April 18, 1929, in Rocky Mount, N.C., he was the son of the late J. Paul and Julia Zimmerman Langley.

He graduated from Rocky Mount High School then attended North Carolina State University for two years. He then joined the Air Force and was a member of the Strategic Air Command, 90th Wing during the Korean War. After his discharge, he went back to N.C. State and graduated with a dairy manufacturing degree.

He worked for Coble Dairy in Lexington, N.C. for 11 years. The family moved to Frederick and he worked for Capital Milk Producers (High's) from August of 1969 until he retired in April 1991.

Mr. Langley was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Lexington, where he served as a deacon, was on the library committee and a choir member. At First Baptist Church of Frederick, he was a deacon, Sunday School teacher and choir member. At South End Baptist Church, he was on the Trustee Committee and sang in the choir.

Paul was an Eagle Scout and had two other Eagle Scouts in the family, his eldest son, Jeff, and his eldest grandson, Andy.

In Frederick, he was active with the National Capital Area Council, Francis Scott Key District of the Boy Scouts and served as district chairman for several years. He also was a member of the Frederick Rotary Club and served as chairman of the United Way of Frederick for two years. In Lexington, N.C., he was a member of the Jaycees.

Surviving beside his wife are three children, Jeffrey Keith Langley and wife, Nancy, of Gettysburg, Pa., David Scott Langley of Bealeton, Va., and Julia Leigh Beard of Braddock Heights; five grandsons, Andrew Charles Langley, Joshua Kyle Langley, Samuel Luke Langley, Travis Michael Beard and Tanner James Beard, and one sister, Winifred Griffin of Jacksonville, Fla.

The family will receive friends and family from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, at South End Baptist Church, 506 Carrollton Dr., Frederick, MD 21701. Rev. Kenneth Stalls will officiate. Interment in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to South End Baptist Church.

Mrs. Sandra Kindred

Mrs. Sandra Kindred, 73, died Monday, Aug. 18, 2008, of ovarian cancer.

Sandra was born in Lansing, Mich., and spent most of her childhood in Orlando, Fla. She spent many years in Pensacola, Fla., and Alexandria, Va., before moving to Frederick in 1992.

Sandra loved the community and was deeply committed to her work as a nurse-therapist. She was a loving and devoted mother, a caring aunt, a friendly neighbor, and a fun-loving and faithful friend. Sandra's smile lit up the room, and her kindness, warmth and generosity were apparent to all who met her. She will be profoundly missed.

A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, in the chapel of Stauffer Funeral Home, Frederick.
