February 16, 2001

Charlotte G. Irmler of Chestertown, Md. died at Heron Point Nursing Facility on February 16, 2001. She was 86.

Born in York, Pa. she was the daughter of the late Ira and Mae Gordon. Mrs. Irmler was a 1932 high school graduate in White Plains, New York. On November 15, 1941 she married George W. Irmler, they made their home in White Plains where she raised her family. They later moved to Annapolis, Maryland where they resided for 23 years

. In 1993 Mrs. Irmler and her husband moved to Heron Point in Chestertown, Md. where they have resided since. Mrs. Irmler enjoyed sewing. In addition to her husband she is survived by two sons: Kenneth M. Irmler of Stanford, Conn. and Peter H. Irmler of White Plains, NY. Along with 4 grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held on March 3, 2001 at 3:00 p.m. at Wesley Hall in Heron Point Chestertown, Md. Interment will be held privately.

February 15, 2001

Bessie L. Camper, of Trappe formerly of Easton, died on Wednesday, February 15, 2001. She was 90.

Born in Millington, September 1, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Watson and Bertha Taylor Nickerson. As a child, she moved with her family to Dorchester County where she graduated from Hurlock High School. In June of 1936, she married George R. Camper and they made their home in Baltimore until moving to Easton in 1946.

She worked as a secretary for her husband, who was a credit investigator for a retail credit company, until 1960 when she became the clerk for the local Selective Service Board, a position she held until retiring in the 1970's. A resident of the Trappe area for the last two years, she was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church, the Ladies of the Elks, Easton Lodge #1622 and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mr. Camper died August 3, 1991.

Mrs. Camper is survived by a daughter, JoAnn C. Vorwald of Easton; a son, Victor W. Camper of Kissimmee, FL; two brothers, Lee Nickerson of Hurlock and Joe Nickerson of Secretary; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held on Monday, February 19th, at 11 A. M. at the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., Easton where friends may call one hour prior. Burial will be at Spring Hill cemetery, Easton.

Memorial donations may be made to Advanced Life Support, P. O. Box 514, Easton, MD 21601.

February 13, 2001

Michael Scott Nickerson, Police officer for the town of Centreville died on February 13, 2001 from injuries sustained in the line of duty. He was 25.

Born in Chestertown, Md. on December 11, 1975, he was the son of Alwyn LeRoy "Joe" Jr. and Sue Ellen Baxter Nickerson. Mr. Nickerson was a graduate of Kent County High School class of 1993. Mr. Nickerson worked for the Chestertown Police Department from 1997 to 1998 when he transferred to the Kent County Sheriff Department where he served until 1999. Mr. Nickerson worked for D & D Construction. He also worked alongside his brother, Albert with his contracting business. Mr. Nickerson has worked as a law enforcement officer for the Centreville Police Department since January.

His interests include decoy carving, hunting, jet skiing, and trap shooting. As a trap shooter he was past National Champion in 1990 and 1991, Maryland State Champion, Zone Champion, and Delaware State Champion. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, National Wild Turkey Federation, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and a Life Member of the National Trap Shooting Association.

In addition to his parents he is survived by his brothers: Albert Nickerson of Worton, Md. and Phillip Nickerson of Still Pond, Md. along with his maternal grandparents Albert and Hazel Baxter of Worton, Md. Along with 3 nephews. He was also survived by his companion Stephanie Anthony of Queenstown, MD.

Funeral services will be held on February 19, 2001 at 12:00 (noon) at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home 130 Speer Rd. Chestertown, Md., where relatives and friends may call on Sunday February 18, 2001 from 2:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Interment will be in St. James United Methodist cemetery, Worton, MD.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Michael S. Nickerson Memorial Fund c/o F.O.P. Lodge #110 P.O. Box 933 Chestertown, Md. 21620.

Those serving as pallbearers are Pat McAllister, Sean Kille, Daniel Baxter, Jason Yiannakis, Sheriff John Price, and Col. Ben Cohey.

February 12, 2001

G. Kenneth Baker, Sr. , of Preston, died at the University Hospital, Baltimore, on Monday, February 12, 2001. He was 59.

Born in Preston, December 12, 1941, he was the son of the late Garrit and Ruth A. Schall Baker. After graduating from Preston high School in 1959, he worked on the family farm until joining the U.S. Army in 1964. Following his release from active duty in 1966, he returned to Caroline county and was employed by Elliott Wilson Trucks in Easton. At the time of his death he was the assistant parts manager for the company.

A lifelong resident of Preston, he attended St. Luke's Church in Secretary where he served as an usher. A foster parent, he was past president of the Caroline County Foster Parents Association. Mr. Baker is survived by his wife, the former Laura Lee Meritt, whom he married in Preston January 22, 1967; a daughter, Kimberly Ann Carson, of Easton; a son, Garrit K. Baker, Jr. of Preston; two sisters, Rebecca Collins and Eunice Diefenderfer, both of Preston; a much-loved granddaughter, Rhiannon Lee Carson and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 16, 2001 at 2:00 PM at the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, Easton. Burial will be at Junior Order cemetery, Preston, MD. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, February 15 from 7 to 9 PM and one hour prior to the service.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Blvd., Suite 1010, Rockville, MD 20852.

February 11, 2001

Margaret Delores "Mitzie" Lee died February 11, 2001 at Memorial Hospital, Easton. She was 71.

Born February 15, 1929 in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late George, Sr. and Bertha Grill Elliott. Her youth was spent in Baltimore and Tilghman Island. On November 20, 1948, she married H. Bruce Lee and they resided in Talbot County for all of their married life. They celebrated their fifty-second anniversary in November.

Mrs. Lee devoted her life to her husband, her two children and her grandchildren. She was a homemaker and a bookkeeper for her husband's carpentry business. She enjoyed traveling, and with her husband, visited forty-seven states of the United States, including Hawaii. In addition, she was a member of the memorial Hospital Auxiliary, The Women of the Moose, The Arthritis Foundation and the AARP. She also enjoyed assisting the Women of Christ Church with their semi-annual sales.

In addition to her devoted husband, Mrs. Lee is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, David B. and Sharon V. Lee of Preston; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia L. and Reggie Phillips of Easton, five grandchildren, Joey and Julie Phillips of Easton, Dawn Lee Andrews of Easton, Sergeant David B. Lee, Jr. USMC of Camp LeJeune, NC and Kasey Lee of Preston; four great-grandchildren, Alex, Berkley and Matthew Andrews of Easton, and Brady Lee of North Carolina. She was predeceased by a sister, Anna Larrimore and a brother, George "Buddy" Elliott, Jr.

A funeral service will be held at 1 PM on Wednesday, February 14, 2001 at Christ Episcopal Church, St. Peter's Parish, Easton. Burial will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, February 13 from 7 to 9 PM at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, Easton.

Mrs. Lee requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Christ Church, 111 S. Harrison St., Easton, MD 21601 or The Regional Cancer Center, c/o Memorial Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 1306, Easton, MD 21601.

February 10, 2001

Charlotte L. Black of Baltimore died of heart failure on Saturday, February 10, 2001 at the home of her daughter near Worton, Md. She was 77.

Born in Catonsville, she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Caroline Myers Brashears. She had worked for the Goodwill Industries as an Administrative Assistant for 20 years, retiring in 1988. Mrs. Black enjoyed many forms of needlework and loved to read and play cards. She also enjoyed gardening and flowers.

Mrs. Black was preceded in death by her first husband, Donald Stewart Greenstreet in 1967 after 25 years of marriage and her second husband, Howard McClure Black whom she married in 1974 and he died in 1998.

Mrs. Black is survived by a daughter, Christina G. Wessel of Worton; a son Donald S. Greenstreet of Westminster, MD; a step-daughter, Marilyn F. Black and a step-son, Jeffrey A. Black, Jr., both of Baltimore, MD; a granddaughter, Donna C. Wessel of Greenbelt; two grandsons, Richard Wessel of Worton and Jeffrey A. Black, Jr. of Baltimore; and two great-grandchildren, Christy Wessel of Worton and Austin Black of Baltimore, MD.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 14, 2001 at 11:00 AM at the Hubbard Funeral Home, Inc., 4107 Wilkins Avenue, Baltimore, MD were friends and family may call on Tuesday from 4- 8 PM and again one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Meadowridge Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest contributions in her memory to the Historic Old Salem Lutheran, Inc., P.O. Box 9347, Baltimore, MD 21228.

February 9, 2001

Charles R. Davidson of Centreville died on Friday, February 9, 2001 at Corsica Hills Nursing Home, Centreville. He was 92.

Born in Baltimore City on July 21, 1908, he was the son of the late Richard B.C. and Ruth Anna Thomas Davidson. After attending public school he began a lifelong career as a mechanic. He and his wife owned and operated a service station in Centreville until 1949. He retired on October 1, 1973 from Queen Anne’s County Roads Dept.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Centreville and a former member of the Goodwill Fire Co. His wife, the former Alice Carter died August 31, 1997. Mr. Davidson is survived by a son; C. Richard Davidson of Centreville, a sister, Gertrude D. Malinowski of Baltimore, MD; two grandchildren, Linda Davidson Barton of Queen Anne and Perry Richard Davidson of Cordova; four great-grandchildren, E. Paige Barton, Julia D. Barton, Ty Richard Davidson and Samantha Elsa Davidson.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, February 12, 2001 at 1:00 PM at Chesterfield cemetery, Centreville, MD. Friends may call at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, Centreville from 11:30 to 12:30.

Memorial donations may be made to your favorite charity.
