Mr. Earnest Stitely Sr.

Earnest "Bunks" Leroy Stitely Sr., 58, of Mount Airy, died Sept. 10, 2008, at Carroll Hospital Center, Westminster. He was the spouse of late Linda Jean (Shaffer) Stitely.

He was born Sept. 20, 1949, in Frederick, the son of the late Ernest A. Stitely and late Daisey (Mercer) Stitely.

He was a Welder with Marada Industries. He graduated from the Maryland School for the Deaf. He enjoyed going to Chincoteague where he went fishing, crabbing and clamming. He also enjoyed carpentry and playing mini golf with his children.

Surviving him are sons, Ernest Stitely Jr. of Hagerstown and Randy Stitely of Mount Airy; brothers, David, Dale, Richard and Tony Stitely; sisters, Sandra, Susan and Mary Stitely; nieces and nephews, Brittney, Eric and Brandon Kline and David Stitely Jr. Also remembered by good friends Bill and Malone Gouge and family. Preceded in death by sisters, Terry and Brenda Stitely.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday Sept. 15, at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home, 1212 W. Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, where the family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until time of service. Interment will be in Locust Grove cemetery, Mount Airy.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Stitely's at 4504 Buffalo Road, Mount Airy, MD 21771.

Mr. Robert Davis

Robert Wayne Davis, 44, of Frederick, and formerly of Williamsport, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008, at his home.

Born Dec. 25, 1963, in Hagerstown, to Jean Stewart Davis of Hagerstown, and the late Ronald Lee Davis.

He was a 1982 graduate of Williamsport High School and he also attended Hagerstown Junior College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and he served on the USS Henry M. Jackson submarine. He was employed by Fort Detrick of Frederick. He was of the Methodist Faith.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are sister, Susie D. Butts of Williamsport; brother, Stewart L. Davis of Cleveland, Ohio; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunt, uncles and cousins.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Mr. William Hungerford Jr.

Mr. William Roger "Billy" Hungerford Jr., of Mount Airy, died suddenly Friday, Sept. 5, 2008, at his residence.

Born May 26, 1956, in Olney, he was a son of Ruby Coleman Hungerford Adams, of Piedmont, S.C., and of the late William Roger Hungerford Sr.

Billy attended Damascus High School. He enjoyed fishing with his brothers and was well versed with his job as a heavy equipment operator. Currently Billy was employed with R.A. Kelley of Gaithersburg and was previously employed by Hungerford Brothers, Boyds.

Surviving besides his mother are two sons, Jesse and Joshua (Hungerford) Keith both of Frederick County; six siblings, Teresa F. Walker of New Market, Deborah G. Melton and husband, Ben, of Damascus, Robert L. Hungerford of Brunswick, David W. Hungerford of Mount Airy, John Joseph Hungerford and wife, Aubrey, of Frederick, and Barbara Jean Hungerford of Beallsville; and step-mother, Jeannye Hungerford, also of Beallsville.

Besides his father, Billy was preceded in death by brother, Michael Wayne Hungerford.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, at Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus. Billy's uncle, the Rev. Allen B. Hungerford will officiate. Inurnment will be private and at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Liver Foundation, 7410 Georgia Avenue, NW, Suite 4, Washington, DC 20012.

Mrs. Mary Jane Stewart

Mary Jane Stewart, 83, of Knoxville, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008, at her residence.

She was born Aug. 20, 1925, in Brunswick, and was the daughter of the late Guy and Iva Strowbridge Barker.

She was a 1942 graduate of Brunswick High School. She retired from the Department of the Army in 1980 as a civilian secretary for the Department of Defense.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 10421, and the Auxiliary of the American Legion Post No. 96.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Wendell M. Stewart of Brunswick; one daughter, Shirley Ann Dunbar of Scottsdale, Ariz.; two granddaughters, Wendy Cannon of Phoenix, Ariz., and Rebecca Vejar Cannon of Guaymas, Mexico; one brother, Charles W. Barker and wife, Doris, of Port Orange, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Lee Grossman.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, at the John T. Williams Funeral Home, 100 Petersville Road, Brunswick, with the Rev. Vicky Starnes officiating. Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Brewington, Robert Brewington, Paul Brewington, Adam Brewington, John Butler and Chris Butler.

The family request memorial donations be made to the Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702 or New Hope United Methodist Church, 7 S. Maryland Ave., Brunswick, MD 21716.

Mr. Robert Garrett

Robert B. Garrett, 69, Middletown, died Thursday Sept. 11 at his home. He was the husband of Judy Monroe Garrett.

Born in Atlanta, Ga., May 25, 1939, he was a son of the late Linwood C. and Grace James Garrett.

He was employed as computer systems analyst with Blue Cross/Blue Shield in Washington, D.C., until his retirement. He was a US Army veteran from 1959 until 1963. He was an avid golfer.

Surviving, besides his wife, are two children, Mitchell L. Garrett of Frederick and Jennifer M. Garrett of Baltimore; one sister, Gloria Pushard of Atlanta, Ga.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday Sept. 12 at the Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday Sept. 13, from the Middletown United Methodist Church, Middletown. The Rev. Dr. Susan Halse will officiate. Interment will be made in Rosedale cemetery, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Middletown United Methodist Church 7107 Fern Lane, Middletown, MD 21769.

Mrs. Pearl Misner

Mrs. Pearl Ludine Brice Misner, 87, of Thurmont died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, at the Golden Living of Frederick. She was the wife of the late Albert Misner.

Born in Thurmont on Jan. 1, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Minnie Belle (Portner) and James Brice. A homemaker, Pearl was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Survivors include her three children, Rachel Wilson of Rocky Ridge, Floyd Misner of Westminster and David Misner of Thurmont; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Pearl was also preceded in death by a son, Arthur Misner; two daughters, Patricia Ann Fritz and Linda Misner; two brothers and six sisters.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main St., Thurmont, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge cemetery where serving as pallbearers will be: Billy Misner, Jason Misner, Danny Crusey, Mark Flanigan, Scott Koontz and Herman Johnston.

Memorials may be made to Daybreak Adult Day Services, 7819 Rocky Springs Road, Frederick, MD 21702.

Mr. Bernard Burkett III

Mr. Bernard E. Burkett III, 57, of Martinsburg, W.Va., died Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, at his home.

Born Dec. 22, 1950 in Frederick, he was the son of the late Bernard E. Jr. and Gladys Morgan Burkett.

He enjoyed antiquing and spending time with his friends.

He is survived by a brother, Earl Burkett and wife, Cheryl, of Thurmont; a nephew, Jonathan Burkett, of Tyron, Pa., and niece, Kayla Burkett, of Thurmont. Numerous aunts, uncles and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by a sister, Joan Burkett, and brothers, Michael, Gary, Jerry and Charles Burkett. His paternal grandparents Bernard Sr. and Nanny Burkett and maternal grandparents, Lee and Ethel Morgan.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14.

Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.

Contributions may be expressed to the charity of your choice.

Mrs. Katherine Garrett

Mrs. Katherine V. (Filby) Garrett, 93, of Frederick, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, at the Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard N. Garrett, on July 30, 1980.

Mrs. Garrett was a longtime and active member of The Evangelical Reformed Church United Church of Christ. She was employed in the dry cleaning industry and for many of those years with Harry Lawson, proprietor of Gem Laundry. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and enjoyed cooking for large family dinners.

For relaxation she played bingo, cards and shared her time with family and friends.

Surviving are a daughter, Patricia A. Heffner and husband, Edward, of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; a son, Edward T. Garrett and wife, C. Lee, of Frederick; seven grandchildren; Pamela L. Cline (who visited and cared for Katherine daily), Jeffrey A. Heffner and wife, Betty, Gregory W. Heffner and wife, Terry, Kelley A. Dyson and husband, Allen, Hunter G. Heffner and wife, Jessie, Lisa D. Landaverde and husband, William, and Dawn L. Vargas and husband, William; 22 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

She will also be missed by her brother-in-law, Frank Garrett and his wife, Joan, and numerous other family members.

Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. From the Evangelical Reformed Church United Church of Christ, 15 W. Church St., Frederick, MD 21701, Rev. Dr. Barbara Kershner Daniel will officiate.

Mrs. Delores Pfeiffer

Delores Lorraine Pfeiffer, 80, of Myersville, passed away Sunday, Aug. 10, 2008, at Washington Hospital Center. She was the wife of the late Charles F. Pfeiffer.

Born March 22, 1928, in Feagaville, she was the daughter of the late James Roger and Bertha May Blank Winpigler. She was the sister of the late John Edward Winpigler, Charles Flook, Alden Flook, Patricia Clem, Eva Grimes and Roger Leon Winpigler. She is survived by her sisters, Elsie Barger, Mary Lou Thomas, Shirley Ann Rice and Edith May Troupe.

She is also survived by her children, Patricia Wentzel, Rose Cooper, Lindy Gordon, Alden Rice and Laurie Pfeiffer; three stepsons, Ray Pfeiffer, Rex Pfeiffer and Roy Pfeiffer; and two stepdaughters, Rae Anne Pfeiffer Crowley and Rea Pfeiffer. In addition, are her grandchildren, Chad Weddle, Dawn Kelly, R. Jason Weller, Heather Rice, Jeremy Gordon, Brandon Rice, Kodi Pfeiffer and Dakota Pfeiffer; step-grandchildren, Amber Smith, Ian Pedersen, Steven Pfeiffer and Mattie Pfeiffer; great-grandchildren, Alexa Weller, Jadyn Kelly and Adyson Weller; step-great-grandchildren, Devin and Jordan Katt.

She was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Chapter 660, Brunswick, the Fleet Reserve Assn. and Auxilary Antietam Branch Unit 142 and the Shangri-La Detachment — Marine Corps League Auxilary.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, at the Chapel Mausoleum of Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 US Route 15 North, in Frederick, where funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 14. Entombment will be private. Floral tributes are welcome, and may be delivered to the Chapel Mausoelum.

Arrangements are by Resthaven Funeral Services, Skkot Cody P.A., Frederick.

Ms. Cynthia Murphy

Ms. Cynthia Irene "Cindy" Murphy, 40, of Germantown, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008, at Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C., as a result of injuries sustained in an accident.

Born April 13, 1968 in Frederick, she was the daughter of Rockne E. and Lillian A. Murphy of Ijamsville.

Cindy was a 1986 graduate of Linganore High School and a 1988 graduate of Frederick Community College.

She was employed as a senior project coordinator in the McLean, Va. office of JPI (a construction company based in Texas).

She was a member of Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Gaithersburg and faithfully participated in a Small Faith Community group.

Cindy was a sports enthusiast and was a dedicated member of her local fitness club. She played volleyball in high school and on various community teams, and she participated in Cycle Across Maryland. She was a 10-year member of the Frederick County 4-H program and won numerous awards, mainly in baking and sewing.

Cindy baked all the time and she loved to decorate cakes for family birthdays and special events, especially cartoon and action characters for her nephew, Brandon.

She was an avid country music fan and loved going to Nashville for the annual CMA festival. Cindy loved to read and always had at least one library book checked out at any given time.

Cindy loved animals, especially her kitten Pumpkin, and she enjoyed collecting panda bears. She had a love for gardening, and especially loved planting flowers in the springtime.

She enjoyed traveling and especially loved her trips to Hawaii, San Francisco, the Grand Canyon area, and Idaho. Cindy loved vacationing in Ocean City with her family every summer. One of her traveling highlights was last year's Disney World trip with her nephew, Brandon.

Cindy's travels also led her to helping the community. The summer after Hurricane Katrina, she and a friend went to New Orleans for a week to volunteer with the rebuilding effort.

Cindy was always kind, giving and loving, and helping everyone with whatever they needed, especially her Aunt Jane. Cindy's generous spirit lives on through organ and tissue donation.

In addition to her mother and father, she is survived by two sisters, Barbara M. Kromer and husband, Rick of Rockville and Anita M. Evans and husband, Zachary of Ijamsville; one brother, John E. Murphy of Ijamsville; a nephew, Brandon A. Evans of Ijamsville; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Cindy was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Charles E. and Mamie W. Murphy; maternal grandparents, Roy A. and F. Irene Arnold; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick.

A mass of Christian burial will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, at Saint Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church, 4103 Prices Distillery Road, Ijamsville. Officiating will be Father Michael J. Jendrek.

Interment will be in Mt. Olivet cemetery, Frederick.
