Mr. James Goodman

James Leonard Goodman, 71, of Oakland, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital.

Born Sept. 21, 1936, in Frederick, he was a son of the late James H. and Elizabeth (Leonard) Goodman.

A Physicist, Mr. Goodman graduated from VPI, and was a retired store owner.

Surviving is his wife, Karol Ann (Kallaway) Goodman of Oakland; two sons, John Erik Goodman and wife, Kimberly, of New Market, James Michael Goodman and wife, Rose, of Gettysburg, Pa.; one brother, John M. Goodman of Alexandria, Va.; one sister, Betsy Devilbiss of Frederick; six grandchildren, Spencer, Erika, Jordan, Nicholas, Mike and Stephen; and special caregiver, Jean Cheshire of Oakland.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N. Second St., Oakland. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 22, at the funeral home chapel with Dr. Herbert Lambert officiating.

Mr. Leonard Kidwell

Mr. Leonard "Dickie" Augustus Kidwell, 66, of Fairfield, Pa. died Friday, Sept. 19, 2008.

He was born March, 19, 1941. He was the son of the late Ernest Augustus and Dolly Rosalie Costello-Kidwell.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Kidwell; five children; three brothers, James J. Kidwell, Ernest A. Kidwell and Vernon L. Kidwell; three sisters, Helen A. Owens, Thelma Hungerford and Flora C. Testerman; a very special nephew, Elmer "Bubba" O Kidwell Jr. and wife, Debbie; and many nieces, nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers, Elmer O Kidwell Sr., and Virgil V. Kidwell; and a sister, Margaret Clem.

The viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday Sept. 22, at Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Rd, Barnesville. Funeral services will be held immediately following the viewing, at the funeral home. Interment will take at Boyd Presbyterian Church 19901 White Ground Rd, Boyds.

Mr. Bernard Gosnell

Mr. Bernard Thomas "Bernie" "Dick" Gosnell, 81, of Frederick, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008, at Homewood of Crumland Farms Health Care. He was the loving husband of the late Betty Jane Thompson Gosnell.

Born in Frederick, Sept. 26, 1926, he was a son of the late Ralph and Lucille Haller Gosnell.

Mr. Gosnell proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Army. He was retired as a brick mason after 45 years, having spent much time with George Miller Company of Redland. He will also be remembered as a greeter at the Safeway Store and Wal-Mart.

He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Frederick, life member of the Francis Scott Key American Legion, Post # 11, the V.F.W. Post 3285, the Amvets Post 2 and was also a life member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge # 371, and held many offices, including past governor, and the highest office in the Moose Lodge the pilgrim degree.

Mr. Gosnell enjoyed dancing and watching golf, and was an avid Terps fan, Redskin fan and Orioles fan.

Surviving are his four daughters, Linda A. Tucker and husband Tom of East Liverpool, Ohio, Diane Musselman and husband Dick of Frederick, Jackie Burdette and husband Joe of Middletown, and Margaret Ann "Peggy" Godsey and husband Ed of Frederick; step-son, N. Wayne Getzandanner and wife Carol of Graceham; one sister, Helen Gray of New Windsor; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He will also be remembered by a special friend, Helen Moulder, of Frederick.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, George Gosnell and James Gosnell, and three grandsons.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. Pastor Barbara J. Bornemann, pastor of Evangelical Lutheran Church, will officiate. Interment will be in the Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick. A memorial service will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Moose Lodge.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Shawn Shankle, Randy Burdette, Rusty Burdette, Gary Getzandanner, Michael Getzendanner and Kenneth Keeney.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association Western Maryland Chapter, 108 Byte Drive, Suite 103, Frederick, MD 21702 and in his memory to Homewood at Crumland Farms, 7407 Willow Road, Frederick, MD 21702.

Mrs. Mary Paulhamus

Mrs. Mary D. Paulhamus, 87, died Sept. 18, 2008 at St. Elizabeth Nursing Center in Baltimore, after a lengthy illness.

She was the daughter of the late James C. Davis and Marie Gherrity of Tyrone, Pa.

She was an honor's graduate of Hood College (master's in elementary education) and held an artist's diploma of music from The Juilliard School in New York. She served on the faculties of Hood College and of St. John's elementary and high schools.

She was pre-deceased by her husband, Major Edward B. Paulhamus; her daughter, Catherine W. Paulhamus; and one granddaughter, Natalie E. Paulhamus. She is survived by her daughter, Marie S. Paulhamus; son, Thaddeus Paulhamus; and one granddaughter, Namara Mary Elkattan.

Relatives and friends may visit the family from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Ambrose Funeral Home, Inc., 1328 Sulphur Spring Road, Arbutus, MD 21227.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Alphonsas Roman Catholic Church in Baltimore.

Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, at Oak Grove cemetery in Tyrone, Pa.

Ms. Deborah Trout

Deborah A. Trout, 47, of Hagerstown, died Saturday Sept. 20, 2008, at the Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown.

Born Aug. 29, 1961, in Frederick, she was the daughter of Mary Kathryn Remsberg Trout and the late George W. Trout Jr.

In addition to her mother, Ms. Trout is survived by her brother, James W. Trout and wife, Cindy, of Salix, Pa.; her sister, Charlotte Trout of Hagerstown; and her nephews, Eric, Adam, Philip and Danny Trout.

Visitation with family will be from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, at the Christ's Reformed Church UCC, 130 W. Franklin St., Hagerstown.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, from the church. Pastor Gregg Meserole will officiate. Interment will be at the Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 1107 Kenilworth Drive, Suite 202, Baltimore, MD 21204, or the Christ's Reformed Church UCC or the Aspiring to Serve fund at the Christ Reformed Church UCC.

Mrs. Ellen Lowery

Ellen Thomas Lowery, 90, died at her home in Jefferson, Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008. Born Aug. 31, 1918, in Adamstown, Ellen was the daughter of the late Paul Sylvester and Alice E. Lee Thomas.

She graduated from Gaithersburg High School and attended Capital City Commercial College. She was employed by the U.S. government for 27 years, the last 17 of which she worked at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda. She retired in 1979.

Mrs. Lowery was a member of the Jefferson United Methodist Church. She was a member of NAFRE and AARP; Jefferson Food and Friends; a charter member of Goshen Mills Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution; and a member of the E. V. White Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy. Mrs. Lowery enjoyed reading, traveling and being with her family and friends.

She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Colvin and husband, Gady, of Bookings, Ore.; four sons, James A. Lowery and wife, Cherra, of Silver Spring, Thomas L. Lowery and wife, Kathleen, of Yellow Springs, Robert L. Lowery and wife, Roxanna, of Mount Airy and John C. Lowery and wife, Julie, of Jefferson. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and four much loved nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by two sisters, Pauline Hilderbrand and Virginia Fraley; one brother, Sylvester Thomas; and one grandson, Brian Tivis.

Friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, at the Keeney & Basford, P.A., Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, in the Etchison Memorial Chapel at the funeral home. The interment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Jefferson United Methodist Church, 3882 Jefferson Pike, Jefferson, MD 21755.

Mr. Dennis Eader

Mr. Dennis Eugene Eader, 52, of Mount Pleasant, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

He was born March 2, 1956, in Frederick, the son of the late Clifford and Shirley (Bowers) Eader.

Mr. Eader was a graduate of Linganore High School, Class of 1974, and was a member of the football and track teams.

He spent 36 years in the plumbing trade, earning his journeyman's license. He started his employment with John T. Croghan Inc., Hyattstown. He then moved on to James A. Federline, Inc., Masters, Inc. Page Mechanical, Robert A. Tull, Inc. Apex Plumbing and ended his career with Phillips Way Plumbing.

His biggest loves were his children, followed by family, friends and his animals. He enjoyed being part of the farming community and helping his children exhibit dairy cattle at various local fairs over the years. He also enjoyed hunting; Harley Davidson cycles and was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan.

He is survived by his children, Adriane Shell and her husband, Nick, of Frederick, Lewis (Blaine) Eader, Amanda Eader and Allison Eader, all at home; sister, Debi Ensor and husband, Bill, and their daughter, Laken, of Mount Pleasant; sister, Sherrie Doody and her husband, Robert Sr., and their son, Robert Jr., of new Midway. Also surviving are many aunts, uncles, cousins and his former wives, Dawn Topper and Debbie Musselman.

Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment in Mount Olivet cemetery. Pallbearers for Mr. Eader are Bill Ensor, Robert Doody Jr., Michael Bowers, Butch Eader, Chuck Smith, Bob Aldridge, Russ Myers and Jeff Musselman.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Eader children, C/O Debi Ensor, 8039 Chestnut Grove Rd., Frederick, MD 21701.

Mrs. Dorothy Staley

Mrs. Dorothy Virginia "Dottie" J. Staley, 87, formerly of Frederick, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008, at the Maryland Masonic Home "Bonnie Blink, " Hunt Valley. She was the wife of John C. Staley, who died April 18, 1985.

Born Nov. 8, 1920, in Charles Town, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Norman E. and Mabel Buddenhagen Johnston.

Mrs. Staley was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Frederick, the ARC of Frederick County and the AMVETS Auxiliary and was a former member of the Frederick Chapter #79 of OES and the Frederick Cedarettes. She enjoyed crocheting, writing poetry, painting with watercolors, making cards and jewelry for her friends.

Surviving are a son, John E. Staley and wife, Stephanie, of Frederick; a daughter, Nancy T. Miles and husband, Jerry, of Urbana; two grandchildren, Eric B. Staley and wife, Tina, of Hagerstown and Kerry T. Miles of Frederick; four great-grandchildren, Joshua Dietz, Jennica Jones, Zachary Staley and Jordon Miles-Weedon; and a brother, Norman Johnston and wife, Joy, of Buena Vista, Colo. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lori Rhae Staley, and a sister, Catherine Johnston.

Funeral services and interment at Mount Olivet cemetery will be private and at the convenience of the family.

The family requests that memorials be made in memory of Mrs. Staley to the ARC of Frederick County Inc., 620 Research Drive, Frederick, MD 21701, Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702 or the Evangelical Lutheran Building Miracle Fund, 31 E. Church St., Frederick, MD 21701.

Arrangements are by Robert E. Dailey & Son Funeral Homes, P.A., Frederick.

Mr. Kenneth Airing

Kenneth E. Airing, 82, of Taneytown, died Saturday, Sept. 20, at Dove House Hospice of Westminster. Born Sept. 11, 1926, near Taneytown, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Ethel (Davidson) Airing. Ken was the husband of Erma Jane (Warner) Airing and they celebrated their 61st anniversary on the day he died.

He served with the Marines during the Korean Conflict stationed in Quantico, Va., from 1952 to 1954. Ken was a bulk feed truck driver for Southern States of Taneytown for 35 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of Grace United Church of Christ of Taneytown.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a sister, Mildred Hess of Shepherds Glenn Nursing Home of Union Bridge. He was predeceased by four brothers, Robert, William, Elwood and Richard Airing.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Little's Funeral Home, 34 Maple Ave., Littlestown, Pa. with his pastor, the Rev. Steven Ostendorf-Snell officiating. A viewing will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Grace UCC cemetery, Taneytown.

Pallbearers will be Ken's nephews: Dave Airing; Roger Airing; Gary Airing; Larry Airing; Mark Warner; and brother-in-law, Raymond Warner.

Memorial contributions have been asked to go to: Grace UCC, c/o Capital Repairs Fund, 47 W. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD 21787.

Dr. George Thompson

Dr. George A. Thompson died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008, at his Bethesda home after a long illness; his family was at his bedside.

The Paraguayan-born physician trained in radiology at Emory University Medical School in Atlanta, Ga., from 1953 to 1958.

He was in the radiology staff at Suburban Hospital from January 1960 to March 1973 and then at Frederick Memorial Hospital until his retirement in 1990. Dr. Thompson was a diplomate of the American Board of Radiology and a member of the AMA, the Radiological Society of NA, Maryland Radiological Society, and Frederick Medical Society.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Anne Thompson; by three children, Jorge, Sandra and Laurent; and by three stepchildren, Carole, Sandra and Gregory. He will be missed by his family and his friends.

The family will be receiving friends from noon to 2 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25 at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Road (Rt. 109), Barnesville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his honor to BestFriends.org.

Dr. Gary Collins

Dr. Gary Joseph Collins, M.D., 42, of Middletown, passed away the evening of Sept. 21, 2008, at home surrounded by family after a brief battle with cancer. He was born in Salem, Ohio, Dec. 9, 1965, as the son of Bernard and Barbara Collins.

He graduated from Salem High School, Class of 1984, Salem, Ohio. He received a bachelor's in physical therapy from Bowling Green State University in 1988 and his medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio in 1994. He completed his internship and residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. In 2004, he completed a fellowship in pain medicine at UC Davis.

He served as a physician in the U.S. Army for 12 years, separating as a lieutenant colonel in 2007. During this time, he was stationed with his family in such locations as Hawaii, South Korea, California, and Washington, D.C. He was a partner at Parkway Neuroscience & Spine Institute in Hagerstown, practicing as an interventional pain specialist.

Survivors include his loving wife, Anne, whom he married July 1, 1989; two sons, Matthew and Eric; two daughters, Ellyn and Olivia, of Middletown; his parents, Bernard and Barbara Collins; a sister, Lisa (Donnie) Johnson of Salem, Ohio; and brother, Patrick (Amelia) Collins of Dayton, Ohio; father- and mother-in-law, Richard and Sharon McGreevey of Greenville, Ohio; sister-in-law, Molly (Steve) Smith of Laurel; brothers-in-law, Jon (Andrea) of Greenville, Ohio, and Michael (Karen) McGreevey of Ithaca, N.Y.; four nephews and five nieces, and many other treasured family and friends. He is preceded in death by his sister, Mary, who died at birth in 1960.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25 at the Donald Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown. A memorial Mass will be held in Salem, Ohio at St. Paul's Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society at Cancer.org -- designate "cancer research."
