Mrs. Mary Brandenburg

Mrs. Mary Linthicum Brandenburg, 78, of Mount Airy, died Saturday morning, Sept. 20, 2008, at Montgomery General Hospital, Olney. She was the wife of Mr. Jerrie Brandenburg, whom she married on May 19, 1948.

Born in Browningsville, on May 9, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Purdum Burdette and Edna Hyatt Linthicum. She graduated Damascus High School in 1948; and worked for many years as a secretary for the Montgomery County Roads Department.

She was a member of Damascus United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Brandenburg loved crocheting, enjoyed remembering family and friends by sending cards, and spending the winters in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas.

Besides her husband, she is survived by two sisters, Shirley Johnson Winegardner of St. Thomas, Pa. and Debbie Linthicum of Chambersburg, Pa.; a sister-in-law, Marge Campbell of Los Fresnos, Texas; an aunt, Geraldine Hyatt of Severna Park; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will not be calling at Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, Damascus. Inurnment will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Those desiring may make memorial contributions in Mrs. Brandenburg's memory to the charity of one's choice.

Mrs. Dorothy Zedler

Mrs. Dorothy Palmira Carlino Zedler, 86, of Damascus, died early Monday morning, Sept. 22, 2008, at Ridge Overlook Assisted Living, Westminster. She was the wife of the late Vincent Peter Zedler, who she met while studying at the Art Movement Institute of Pittsburgh, and who preceded her in death Jan. 22, 1979.

Born April 7, 1922 in Pittsburgh, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John Anthony and Mary Ann Leja Carlino. She enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1944 and was acting secretary for Col. William Kelly and dispatcher for motor vehicles. She was honorably discharged in 1946.

Mrs. Zedler retired from Montgomery County Public Schools June 12, 1984.

Surviving are four children, Vincent Zedler and wife Mary Clare of Florida, John Zedler and wife Maki of Washington, D.C. and Fred Zedler and wife Kris and Maureen Appleby and husband Charlie, all of Damascus; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sisters, Thelma Simon and Joanne Magister, both of Pittsburgh; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband and parents, Mrs. Zedler was preceded in death by daughter, Karen Zedler on March 18, 2005.

Arrangements are by Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, Damascus. There will not be calling at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, at the Frank R. Perman Funeral Home, 923 Saxonburg Boulevard, Shaler, Pa. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 330 Dorseyville Road, Pittsburgh. The Rev. Thomas R. Miller will offer Mass. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Catholic cemetery, Pittsburgh.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD 21157.

Mr. R. E. Patrick

R.E. 'Pat' Patrick, 67, passed away Sept. 21, 2008, at the Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville.

Services will be held graveside at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, in Evansville cemetery near Arkabutla, Miss. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Pate-Jones Funeral Home, Senatobia, Miss. For details, call 662-562-4481.

Mr. Patrick was the former owner of Frederick Aviation and was a pilot of President Eisenhower's helicopter. He also served in the U.S. Army, being deployed in Germany. He was a member of the Evansville Baptist Church near Arkabutla, Miss.

He leaves his wife, Barbara Anne Patrick, of North Potomac, and sisters, Peggy Watson of Tunica, Miss., and Sandra Savage of Arkabutla, Miss. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be sent to the Commemorative Air Force, P.O. Box 62000, Midland, TX 79711 -- where he served as a colonel -- or the charity of one's choice.

Dr. Joseph Skellchock

Dr. Joseph Paul Skellchock, of Gainesville, Ga. and formerly of Frederick, died Sept. 20, 2008. He was preceded in death by his son, Timothy William Skellchock; brother, Eugene H. Skellchock; and brother-in-law, Donald R. Spangler.

He was born Nov. 5, 1920 in Douglas, Ariz. and was the son of the late Joseph and Concepcion (Silvas) Skellchock. He grew up in Lansford, Pa.

Dr. Skellchock served eight years in the military during and after World War II. As a lieutenant Skellchock served as a Navy pilot and naval aviator instructor in multi-engine aircraft. Lt. Skellchock was patrol commander and flew air-to-sea rescue in the South Pacific.

He graduated from Lansford High School, East Stroudsburg State Teachers College and Temple University School of Dentistry. He served his dental internships with the U.S. Navy Dental Corps in Philadelphia, Pa. and the U.S. Naval Hospital in Bethesda.

He held professional memberships in the American Dental Association, D.C., Maryland, and Pennsylvania Dental Associations and Societies, The Academy of Oral Dynamics, Dental Clinic Club of Philadelphia and International Academy of Oral Orthopedics. He was a member of the Chambersburg, Pa. and Frederick Lions Club.

Dr. Skellchock was an active practicing dentist for 37 years. He served as a Navy military dentist in Quantico, Va. and private practice dentistry in Hyattsville and Silver Spring and Chambersburg, Pa.

Throughout his career in dentistry, Dr. Skellchock promoted dental education. He was the author of many professional publications and was the illustrator of the textbook "The Principles and Practice of Oral Dynamics, " written by Dr. Thomas Forde. He was a lifetime member of the Academy of Oral Dynamics where he served as president and secretary for numerous years. He also was an instructor in the Oral Dynamic Principles for the Academy teaching dentists in the U.S. and Japan.

Dr. Skellchock was active in promoting education for dental assistants in Maryland and Pennsylvania. He taught dental assisting programs in several community colleges. Retiring from dentistry in 1988 he continued to pursue his enjoyment of hunting and fishing. He will be remembered by special hunting friends James Houston and Fred Kreger.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Jane Spangler Skellchock; children, Joseph Paul Skellchock Jr. of Gainesville, Va., Jean Maggio of Gainesville, Ga., Christine Thompson of Finksburg, William Fox of Frederick and Peter Skellchock of Germantown; brother and sister-in-law, Leo and Jean Skellchock of New Hampshire; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Irene and Henry Duncan of Odenton, Julia and Dr. Charles Lobel of Hillsborough, Calif., Laura and Dr. William Stevens of Berwyn, Pa.; sisters-in-law, Jessie Fisher, Edith Wiles, Peggy Bender, Linda Virts, Lynn Anderson of Frederick and Erna Spangler, Aberdeen; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation with family will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25 at the Keeney and Basford, P.A., Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Pastor Kenneth E. Gill Jr. will officiate.

Interment will be at the Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Associations, 108 Byte Drive, Suite 103, Frederick, MD 21702.

Ms. June Behr

June V. Behr, 87, of Roscoe, Ill. and formerly of Thurmont, the angels -- guided by the Blessed Virgin Mary -- carried our loving wife, mother and grandmother to heaven to be with the Lord on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008. June was born Dec. 29, 1920 in York, Pa., as the daughter of the late Mabel I. (Gladfelter) Yost and Bernard Smith. June was raised in York, Pa. as a Mennonite by her grandmother, Mary Ellen Gladfelter.

She married Harry C. Behr on Sept. 11, 1937 in Elkton. They were re-married in the Catholic faith at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in York, Pa. on April 18, 1942 and renewed their vows in Cana, Israel in 1990. During her life she lived in York, Pa.; New York City, N.Y.; Dell, N.Y.; Pen Mar; Waynesboro, Pa.; and Thurmont.

June was a homemaker most of her life and enjoyed sewing, crocheting, ceramics and golf. She had a great love for her husband, daughters and grandchildren. She especially loved to hold and care for babies and so enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a beautiful voice and enjoyed singing and listening to music. She was a member of her church choir and a daily communicant for many years. She devoted many hours working and helping in her church. June embraced her faith and had a special devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. She attended the Sacred Heart retreat for women at Columbia, Pa. for 15 consecutive years.

June belonged to the Legion of Mary, the Sodality of the Blessed Virgin Mary, St. Vincent DePaul Society and is a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Emmitsburg. She also belonged to the American Legion, Elk Ladies, a member and past president of the Blue Ridge Summit Fire Co., Women's Auxiliary and the Waynesboro Country Club.

Survivors include her husband, Harry C. Behr of Roscoe, Ill.; four daughters, Joyce (Eugene) Rosensteel of Emmitsburg, Loretta (Edward) Wolfe of Ortanna, Pa., Patricia (Ronald) Blum of Beloit, Wis., Marian (Jeffrey) Walter of Carroll Valley, Pa.; one brother, Gordon (Betty) Smith of York, Pa.; also 14 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased in death by her grandmother, Mary Ellen (Strickler) Gladfelter and her grandfather, Jacob Gladfelter.

June will be greatly missed by her husband, daughters and grandchildren. But now she will be able to walk and laugh again in the company of the angels and her Lord in heaven.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Emmitsburg, with Rev. Stephen P. Trzecieski, C.M. as celebrant.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg with a Rosary at 8 p.m.

Interment will be in New St. Joseph's Catholic cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 47 DePaul Street, Emmitsburg, MD 21727.

Mr. Arnold Leith

Arnold "Buttons" E. Leith, age 55, of Frederick, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Brenda K. Leith, of Frederick.

Born on Sept. 15, 1953, he was the son of the late Samuel and Ruby (Lyrid) Leith.

Arnold worked for Montgomery County D.O.T. for 15 years. He loved wrestling and country music. Most of all, he enjoyed his family and friends.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Leith is survived by his children, his son, Jason Leith and companion, Chrissie; and stepdaughters, Tanya Brown and Misty Gilmore. He was the brother of Samuel Leith, and wife Yvette, Sandra Turner, Vicky Leith, and friend, Rodney, Judy Fellers, and husband, Butch, and Linda Foster. He was the grandfather of nine and also survived by many neices, nephews and cousins. Additionally, he is survived by his brother-in-law, Dwayne, and wife, Robin; mother-in-law, Clara Dick and companion, Jerry Powell; and father-in-law, Thomas Doody and wife, Rita. In addition to his parents, Arnold is preceded in death by his grandparents, Eppie, Etta and Annie, and his brother, Michael Leith.

Friends will be received from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, at the Keeney & Basford P.A. Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, in the Etchison Memorial Chapel. The interment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick. The Rev. Charles G. Beekley will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made directly to Arnold's family.

Mrs. Alma Bristow

Alma A. (Eder) Bristow, 96, of Mount Airy, died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008, at Our Family Assisted Living.

Beloved wife of 34 years to the late Raymond H. Bristow.

She was born Dec. 10, 1911, in Baltimore, as the daughter of the late Andrew J. Elder and the late Frances Desh Elder.

She was co-owner of Bristow's Delicatessen. She was a member of St. Michael's R.C. Poplar Springs, an active member at Parkville Rec. Council, an award-winning bowler and enjoyed ceramics.

She was a beautiful and devoted mother of Dolores G. Miller, Audrey H. and husband Raul H. Yzaguirre Sr.; loving grandmother of Michael, Linda, Deborah, Regina, Raul Jr., Elisa, Roberto, Rebecca and Benjamin; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield, MD 21784 with a Christian wake at 7:30 p.m.

A funeral liturgy will be said 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael's R.C. Church Poplar Springs, 1125 St. Michael Road, Mount Airy, MD 21771. Interment will be in Parkwood cemetery, Baltimore.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Assoc., 800 Wyman Park Dr., 1st Floor Baltimore, MD 21211, or Autism Society of America, 7910 Woodmont Ave., Bethesda, MD 20814.

Mrs. Linda Crabtree

Linda Jane Crabtree, 58, of Boonsboro, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, at her home surrounded by family and friends.

Born Oct. 13, 1949, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of Jane D. Cosens Stine Faulder of Boonsboro and the late H. Brayden Stine. She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Roy E. "Jim" Faulder.

She graduated in 1967 from Boonsboro High School.

She was employed by GAF Corporation of Hagerstown, The Central Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Hagerstown, Richard B. Stine, Inc. in Woodsboro, and most recent Pleasant Construction Incorporated in Clarksburg for 14 years as an accounts payable manager.

She is survived by one daughter, Serena Jane Johnkin and husband Peter "Buddy" of Keedysville; one son, R. T. Crabtree Jr. and wife Kerri of Boonsboro; one sister, Barbara Ann Rhodes and husband Bill of Boonsboro; one brother, Richard Brayden Stine "Rick" and wife Ann of Woodsboro; four grandchildren, Paul Michael Krot IV, Steven Clint Owens Jr., Brayden Thomas Crabtree, and Brynley Catherine Crabtree; and nephews.

Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery, Hagerstown.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Avenue, Hagerstown, MD 21742.

Mrs. Ruth Proctor

Ruth Rebecca Proctor, 76, of Frederick, departed this life Sept. 21, 2008, at home. She was the wife of the late William Randolph Proctor Sr. for 44 years.

Ruth was born in Frederick County, to the late James Henry Edwards Sr. and the late Ruth Diggs Edwards. She was a long-time employee of Frederick Memorial Hospital, Homewood Retirement Home and North Hampton Nursing Facility, from which she retired in 2004.

She was a former member of Jackson Chapel U.M. Church and a member of New Dimensions Church. She also visited and left loving memories with several other churches in the Frederick area. During her Christian journey she served as an usher, sang in the choir, and helped with the hospitality ministries. She was a woman after God's own heart.

She is survived by six children, Joan Williams of Boardman, Ohio, Janice Simms and husband Charles, Sharon Naylor and fianc? Alphonso Lee, Julie Ridgely and husband William, all of Frederick, James Proctor and wife Taconya of Laurel, William Proctor Jr. of Brooklyn, N.Y.; four sisters, Charlotte Edwards, Martha Davis, Lena Jackson and Arianne Edwards and one brother, James H. Edwards Jr., all of Frederick. She was preceded in death by her first son, Larry L. Proctor; two brothers, Ralph L. Edwards and Richard E. Edwards; and two grandchildren. She leaves behind 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends. She will be remembered by three devoted and special friends, Martha Todd, Yvette Jackson and Alphonso Lee and a devoted granddaughter, Erica Naylor and family.

She was an amazing woman who lived an amazing life; she taught us to live everyday of our lives with purpose.

A public viewing will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday at Gary L. Rollins Funeral Home, 110 W. South St. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday with funeral services immediately following. Pastor Alexandra Hardy, eulogist, and co-pastor Debra Hardy will officiate.

Interment will be at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Brian Ireland

Brian Joseph Ireland, 20, of Frederick, passed away Monday, Sept. 22, 2008.

Born Aug. 16, 1988, in Cheyenne, Wyo., he was the son of Michael and Jackie Ireland of Frederick.

Brian was scheduled to deploy with the U.S. Navy in March.

Brian enjoyed writing and he was very good with computers.

Brian was loved more than he knew and he will be missed by many.

In addition to his parents he is survived by his two brothers, Sean and Geoffrey Ireland; a sister, Bethany Ireland; his maternal grandmother, Jean Gauthier; and his paternal grandparents, Donna and Pat Ireland and Kathy Ireland. He will also be remembered by his aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Joseph Gauthier.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, at the funeral home.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Multiple Sclerosis Society, 119 E. Baltimore Street, Hagerstown, MD 21740.
