Mr. Albert Woodby
Albert Lee Woodby, 73, of Benton, Tenn., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008, at home.
Born May 8, 1935, in Sweetwater, Tenn., he was the son of the late Fred and Maybelle Woodby.
He was previously married
to Barbara Woodby Haynes. Mr. Woodby was employed by the Frederick County Board of Education at Catoctin High School for 19 years. He retired in 1995 and returned to Tennessee. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed country and gospel music, long country drives and family cookouts.
Surviving in addition to his former wife are daughter, Sharon Woodby; sisters Marie, Betty and Mary; brothers, John and Charlie; great-uncle, Arthur Underwood; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in the death by sisters, Brenda, Ruby, Irene and brother, James. Memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Mrs. Ruth Foreman
Mrs. Ruth Elizabeth Foreman, 95, of Frederick, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008, at Glade Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Walkersville.
Born Aug. 3, 1913, in Frederick County, she was the daughter of the late John E. and Mary E. Lare Beard. She was the wife of Garland Leroy Foreman, who died in 1976.
She had formerly been employed at the Walkersville Sewing Factory, Frederick Cloak and Suit Store, Price Electric, Husky Services and the Barbara Fritchie Restaurant. She was a member of Chapel Lutheran Church, near Libertytown. She enjoyed traveling with her sister, gardening and flowers. Mrs. Foreman became a resident at Heartfield Assisted Living of Frederick in 2002 and then Glade Valley.
Surviving are a son, Garland L. Foreman and wife, Martha, of Ellicott City; three grandchildren, Douglas L. Foreman of Kenosha, Wis.; Daine F. Wilson of Eldersburg and David G. Foreman of Quakertown, Pa.; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Alma Rippeon of Frederick.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Ellen Knill and Lucille M. Flook, and three brothers, John E., Paul E. and Donald D. Beard.
A funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6, at Chapel Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Dorothy Lundgren officiating. Interment will be in Chapel cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 11802 Liberty Road, Libertytown,

Mr. Charles Sherald Jr.
Charles "Chuck" A. Sherald Jr., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008, at the Kline Hospice House in Mount Airy after his eight year battle with cancer. Chuck was born in Frederick, Oct. 15, 1949. He was the son of the late Charles A. Sherald Sr. and Betty and Eugene Lawson Sr. of Hagerstown.
Chuck grew up in Frederick and graduated from St. John's Literary Institute in 1967. He continued his education with an AA from Frederick Community College in 1970 and a BA from Hood College in 1987. Chuck began his work career at Weis Market and then went on to sell insurance for People's Life. Then he worked in accounting positions for Rudy Transportation and Bank of America. He also sold real estate for Long and Foster in Pikesville. Most recently Chuck was an accountant for Frederick County Government, Division of Utilities and Solid Waste Management. He enjoyed working with people and made friends everywhere he went.
Chuck enjoyed family vacations to Dewey Beach, Del. He was an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings and made many trips to Minnesota. He also volunteered at the Frederick County Humane Society.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his two daughters, Jennifer Wilkins and husband, Michael, of Frederick, and Jessica Robinson and husband, Shane, of Baltimore; his brother, Bob Sherald and wife, Terry, of Waynesboro, Pa.; his step- brother, Eugene Lawson Jr. of Virgina; stepsisters, Juanita Feaster of N.C., and Debbie Smelser and husband, Mark, of Frederick; his niece, Stefanie Breneman of Waynesboro, Pa., and his nephews, Tim Sherald of Waynesboro, Pa., Matt Rice of Frederick; and stepnephew, Mark Smelser Jr. of Frederick. He will also be remembered by Marge Sherald of Frederick and Mary Rice of Frederick.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6, officiated by Pastor Mark A. Hosler. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet cemetery where serving as pallbearers will be Bob Sherald, Tim Sherald, Michael Wilkins, Shane Robinson, Mary Rice and Matt Rice.

Mr. Thomas Pitts
Mr. Thomas V. Pitts, 86, of Frederick died Monday, Sept. 29, 2008, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was husband of Marian Louise Grove Pitts, his wife of 64 years.
Born on Dec. 6, 1921, in Tulsa, Okla., he was the son of the late John M. and Anna Mae Hoyle Pitts.
Mr. Pitts entered the U.S. Army in 1939 and retired in 1962 as a Chief Warrant Officer after a 23 year career. He was then employed by the National Security Agency at Ft. Meade, retiring in 1977. During his military career Tom, received many overseas assignments including England and Korea. In World War II he served in the European Theater of Operations, participating in the Rhineland and Central European campaigns where he earned two battle stars. He was awarded the U.S. Army Commendation Metal along with numerous campaign and service ribbons.
After his retirement from the Army, and being a licensed pilot, he was associated for many years with the Frederick Squadron of the Maryland Civil Air Patrol where he served as a mission pilot and Squadron Operations Officer, attaining the rank of Captain. He was a member of the F.S.K. American Legion, Post #11, Elks Lodge #684 and the Catoctin Club all of Frederick. Mr. Pitts was also a member of NARFE and served on the Board of Directors of AARP. He enjoyed being a amateur radio operator and was a member of the American Radio Relay League.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two children, John T. Pitts of Shannondale, W.Va., and Donna L. Goggin and husband, Bil, l of Merced, Calif.; two granddaughters, Regina and Katy of Sacremento, Calif., three brothers, Paul J. Pitts and Kenneth Pitts of Muskogee, Okla., and Jack M. Pitts of Rogers, Ark. Mr. Pitts was preceded in death by a brother, James Pitts and sisters, Doris Fletcher and Virginia Lee.
Graveside services and interment will held at 11a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at Mount Olivet cemetery, 515 S. Market St., Frederick, with the Rev. Lloyd Fuss officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Mr. William Gentel
Mr. William David Gentel, 73, of Ijamsville, finished his long fight with Parkinson's disease Sept. 29, 2008. He was the beloved husband of Tobey Glee Brehm of Ijamsville.
Born March 15, 1935, in Richmond, Ind., he was the son of the late Harold Gentel and Mary Frances Murray. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Bill earned his bachelor's degree in police science from New Mexico State University, and his master's in public administration from the University of Arizona. He went on to earn his Ph.D. in criminal justice from the University of Maryland.
He was a 10-year veteran of the El Paso, Texas, Police Department. He was an assistant professor at the University of Illinois Police Training Institute, and held the same title at the University of Maryland, where he taught criminal justice. Bill also served as a law enforcement consultant with the International Assoc. of Chiefs of Police.
He was the owner and executive director of the International Center for Public Safety Training, and he was president and CEO of Questar Development Corporation until his retirement. Bill also had a passion for aviation, and was multi-engine rated.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Michael L. Gentel and wife Julie of Woodsboro and Stephen D. Gentel of New Market; a daughter, Angela Grossnickle and husband Brian of Myersville; granddaughters, Brittany Lynn and Megan Michelle Gentel of Woodsboro, and Abby and Jenna Grossnickle of Myersville; a grandson, Austin Gentel of New Market; his former wife, Nancy H. Gentel of Frederick; his mother-in-law, Alice T. Sheppard of Ijamsville; sister-in-law, Shayne Dee Portuondo and husband Sandy of Phoenix, Ariz.; former daughter-in-law, Pamela Gentel of Adamstown; former brother-in-law, David Sparks of Virginia Beach, Va.; his niece, Diana Marshall of Virginia Beach; his best friend, Terry Eisenberg of San Diego, Calif.; a special caretaker, Essi Bansah; and many close friends and caretakers.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at the Chapel Mausoleum of Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 I-15 N, Frederick, where funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. The Rev. Dr. David G. Oravec will officiate.
Interment with military honors will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Michael Beaubien
Mr. Michael Lawrence Beaubien, 45, of Mount Airy, died suddenly late Saturday afternoon, Sept. 27, 2008, at Carroll Hospital Center, Westminster. He was the husband of Jacquelyn R. Beaubien, his wife of 19 years.
Born Feb. 12, 1963, at Georgetown Hospital, Washington, he was the son of Laurent and Nancy F. Beaubien of Arlington, Va. He worked for S.S. Papadopoulos and Associates for 18 years.
Michael was an active member of his church, Mount Airy Bible Church. He often assisted with operating the sound system for services. Additionally, he enjoyed listening to music and photography.
Besides his wife and parents, he is survived by four siblings, Jeanine Colorusso of Arlington, Terri Ruggiero of Massachusetts, Robert Beaubien of Fairfax, Va., and Kathryn Solomon of Georgia; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, at the Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at his church, Mount Airy Bible Church, 16700 Old Frederick Road, Mount Airy. His pastor, Rev. Dr. H. Wallace Webster, will officiate. Internment will follow in Pine Grove cemetery, Mount Airy.

Mrs. Marjorie Harding
Majorie Mae Harding, 62, of Bunker Hill, W.Va., passed away Monday, Sept. 29, 2008, in the City Hospital.
Born Aug. 20, 1946, in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Melva Baker Clevenger.
She was of the Lutheran faith. She enjoyed trap shooting and was a member of the Amatuer Trapshooting Assoc.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years Billy Richard Harding; and daughter, Kellie Harding, at home; brother, Charles Clevenger and wife, Myrtle, of Harpers Ferry; sisters, Elizabeth Hanes of Hyattstown, Janet Testa and husband, Carl, Nancy Jones all of Frederick and Lillian Schultz of Ranson; brother-in-law, Lacy Harding and wife, Donna, Arthur Harding and wife, Doris and Marion Harding; sister-in-law, Clara Clevenger; granddaughter, Haylee Harding and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by brothers, Richard, George and Walter Clevenger.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct.4, at the Jefferson Chapel Funeral Home, Ranson, W.Va., with the Rev. Eddie Hartman officiating. Interment will be private.

Mrs. Kathy Jordan
Mrs. Kathy Lynn "Kat" Cecil Moser Jordan, 47, of Thurmont, but a lifelong member of Frederick, passed away peacefully Monday, Sept. 29, 2008, at her residence after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the wife of Rick Charles Jordan.
Born Oct. 12, 1960 in Frederick, she was a daughter of William Emory and Kathleen Virginia Andrews Cecil Sr. of Frederick.
Mrs. Jordan was a Frederick resident all her life and graduated from Thomas Johnson High School, Class of 1978. She worked in many area restaurants including the VFW, before finding a career at the Brown Pelican, where she forged lifelong friendships. She was featured in the Frederick Magazine several times as Best Waitress, Best Bartender and Best Salad Maker of Frederick. She made a lasting impression on all who met her and she was the strongest woman her friends and family have ever known.
Surviving besides her parents and husband are three sons, Christopher Michael Moser and Colter Marsh Jordan both of Frederick, and Case Daniel Jordan of Thurmont; a brother, Bill Cecil Jr. and wife Malinda of Salisbury; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Dottie and Nelson Marsh of Frederick; four sisters-in-law, Susan Kelly, Julie Borum, Cindy Hanna and Kay Green; and two brothers-in-law, Gery Jordan and Gary Marsh. Several nieces and nephews and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many many loving friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Michael Lee Moser and her first mother-in-law, Betty Moser.
There will be no visiting or calling at the Robert E. Dailey & Son Funeral Homes, P.A., 1201 N. Market St., Frederick.
A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at the funeral home.
Inurnment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
