Mr. Charles Hobbs Jr.

Charles Joseph Hobbs Jr., 83, of Emmitsburg, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008, at the VA Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born March 28, 1925 in Emmitsburg, he was the son of the late Charles J. Sr., and Ruth E. (Wivell) Hobbs. He was predeceased by his wife, Alma T. (Lingg) Hobbs.

Charles was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War in the 1st Battalion, 7th Calvary. He was a member of the St. Anthony's Shrine Parish Catholic Church in Emmitsburg. Charles worked through out his life as a carpenter and worked on various construction projects on the Eisenhower Farm, St. Joseph's Provincial House, and Mt. St. Mary's University. Upon retirement from carpentry, he enjoyed attending auctions, collecting junk, tinkering projects, and gardening.

Surviving are children and spouses, Albert and Debra Hobbs of Sabillasville, Richard and Joanne Hobbs of Fairfield, Pa., Bernard and Dawn Hobbs of Rocky Ridge, Leo and Lori Hobbs of Emmitsburg, and Ginny and Fred Bowne of Fairfield, Pa.; siblings, Francis Hobbs of Emmitsburg, Helen Sanders of Taneytown, James Hobbs Sr., of Fairfield, George Hobbs of Taneytown, Donald Hobbs of Gettysburg, Patrick Hobbs, of Harney, Edgar Hobbs of Fairfield, and Margaret McNair of Laurel.

Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was pre-deceased by a daughter, Mary C. Hobbs, and by a brother, Earl J. Hobbs.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 47 DePaul St., Emmitsburg with Rev. Vincent J. O'Malley, C.M. as celebrant. Interment with military honors will follow in the New St. Joseph's cemetery in Emmitsburg.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, where a prayer service will be held at 8 p.m. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Russell, Matt, Greg, Josh, Michael, and Daniel Hobbs, Shawn and Tony Wivell, and Steve Bowne.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the VA Medical Center, c/o: 5-A home care unit, 510 Butler Ave., Martinsburg, WV 25405.

Mr. Stephen Yerka

Stephen Yerka, of Silver Spring, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008.

He was the beloved son of Stephen F. and the late Mary Helen Yerka; loving brother of John A. "Jack" Yerka and Pamela Ward.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at the Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home, 11800 New Hampshire Ave., Silver Spring, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3. The family requests that expressions of sympathy be made to a charity of your choice.

Mrs. Cora Musser

Cora Elizabeth Musser, 78, of Keedysville, passed away Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008, at her home.

Born Friday, June 13, 1930, in Damascus, Va., she was the daughter of the late William Alexander Osborne and the late Eliza Leona Gentry Osborne. Her husband, Ernest Eugene Musser Sr., preceded her in death in 2000.

She was a 1948 graduate of Gaithersburg High School. She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church and past president of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary 1622 Frederick.

She is survived by two daughters, Catherine Ann Smith of Keedysville and Nancy Marie Skeen of Hagerstown; five sons, Ernest Eugene Musser Jr. of Falling Waters, W.Va., Paul Alexander Musser Sr. of Middletown, Edward Allan Musser of Hagerstown, Christopher Lee Musser of Hagerstown and Ronald Herbert Musser of Hagerstown; sister, Shirley Verble of Tampa, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, from the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Gaithersburg.

There will be no viewing or visitation.

Interment will follow at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.

Mr. Floyd Pearson

Floyd Thomas Pearson, 63, a lifelong resident of Lovettsville, Va., died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008, in Leesburg, Va.

Mr. Pearson was born in Lovettsville to the late Floyd and Alma Arnold Pearson. Two sisters, Charlotte Holdrich and Janet Pearson, predeceased Tom.

He has always had a passion for cars and drag racing. Mr. Pearson began wholesaling cars in 1977 with his business Valley Auto Center. He had been working with VDOT since 1992 and was presently the automotive repair manager at the Leesburg shop. Mr. Pearson will be remembered as a strong, caring man with a wonderful sense of humor.

Mr. Pearson is survived by his wife of 40 years Carolyn Sue Pearson of Lovettsville; two daughters, Tracy Pearson of Warrenton, Va., and Cathy and husband, Eric Kellon, of Portland, Ore.; sister, Edna Pond of Stephens City, Va.; great-grandson, Owen Kellon; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Friends may call for a memorial visitation from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at the Brown/Loudoun Funeral Chapels, 34 E. Broad Way, Lovettsville, Va. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church in Lovettsville with Rev. Marty Hager officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Church cemetery.

Mrs. Kathleen Talbert

Mrs. Kathleen D. Talbert, 93, a resident of Sunrise Assisted Living of Frederick, formerly of Washington, D.C., died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008, at the Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 7, 1915, in Jefferson, she was a daughter of the late Joseph William and Alice Elizabeth Himes Darner.

Mrs. Talbert was a graduate of Frederick High School, Class of 1932 and of Hood College, Frederick in 1936 with a bachelor of arts degree. She served on the editorial staff of the high school newspaper. She was an honor student at Hood College on a two-year scholarship. She served as a representative of associate students to the student government. Later studies led to certification as a medical technician and as a histopathology technician.

Mrs. Talbert's employment as a research associate under the direction of Dr. Lloyd W. Hazleton in the School of Pharmacy at George Washington University led to the awarding of the prestigious Ebert Award in Pharmacology Research.

She worked as an employee of the United States Government for 10 years at the Food and Drug Administration and for 10 years at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology from which she received a Meritorious Service Award.

Mrs. Talbert was a member of the Presbyterian Church in several congregations in Washington, Hyattsville, and Frederick. She has served as a teacher, deacon, elder, program chairman and president of the Women's Circle, on the Christian Education Committee, Church and community Action Committee and Coordinator of a Church School Resource Center.

Her local interests were the American Cancer Society of Frederick County, the American Red Cross of Frederick County, the Rescue Mission, the Literacy Council of Frederick County Inc., Church Women United, the building of the Monocacy Valley Church and the refurbishing and continued use of the Weinberg Center.

Surviving is a sister, Goldie Lettau of Hagerstown. A number of nieces and nephews including Noel Werking and wife, Carole, of Middletown also survive. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Marcus Darner, William Alden "Bob" Darner and Leonard Darner; and four sisters, Ruth King, Daisy Darner, Alice Darner and Marguerite Werking.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at the Robert E. Dailey & Son Funeral Homes, P.A., 1201 N. Market St., Frederick, which time services will begin with the Rev. Mark VanderMeer, pastor Monocacy Valley Church officiating.

Interment will be in Jefferson Reformed cemetery.

Mrs. Joan Strawson

Mrs. Joan B. Strawson, 74, of Aberdeen, N.C., formerly of Adamstown, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2008, at the First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pine Hurst, N.C.

She was the loving wife of David G. Strawson. They were married in 1957.

Joan was born March 8, 1934, in Jamestown, N.Y., the daughter of the late Edward and Elizabeth Button.

Surviving in addition to her husband are three daughters, Joan E. Strawson of North Carolina, Anne Strawson Jacob of Virginia, Barbara Lynn Strawson of Poolesville and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at the Darnestown Presbyterian Church, 15120 Turkey Foot Road, Darnestown.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Arrangements are by Hilton Funeral Home, Barnesville.

Mrs. Marta Trimble

Marta Susan Trimble, 59, of Woodsboro, passed away after a lengthy illness Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008, at the Citizen Care and Rehabilitation Center in Frederick.

Born April 8, 1949, she became a licensed practical nurse in Frederick and worked in several hospitals and nursing homes. She married the late Roland Trimble and moved to Florida where she continued her work in nursing for a total of 20 years. Marta later returned to Frederick after the death of her husband in 2000. Prior to her illness, she worked at the Woodsboro Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was an avid reader and loved animals, especially her pet dachshund, "Fred."

Surviving are her parents, Frances N. and Samuel F. Gardner III; two brothers, S. Kevin Gardner and wife, JoAnne, and Gary L. Gardner and wife, Kathy; one niece, Manda J. Mackintosh and husband, Drew; two nephews, Justin Gardner and wife, Margo, and Matthew Gardner; and great-uncle, Gene Gardner. She was preceded in death by her husband of six years, Roland Trimble.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, where a memorial service will begin at 8:30 p.m. officiated by Pastor Dorothy Lundgren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Woodsboro Evangelical Lutheran Church, 101 S. Main St., Woodsboro, MD 21798.

Mrs. Doris Baugher

Doris L. Baugher, 61, of Frederick, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008, at the Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Born July 11, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Thelma Baugher.

Mrs. Baugher was a lifelong resident of Frederick. She worked as a registered nurse at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was a former member of the Grace Community Church of Braddock Heights and presently a member of the Apostolic Lighthouse United Pentecostal Church of Frederick where she was very active in volunteer programs. Mrs. Baugher most enjoyed her time spent with family and her five grandchildren.

Mrs. Baugher is survived by her daughter, Kim Summers and husband, Curtis, of Frederick; her sons, Michael R. Bartholow of Frederick and Donald E. Bartholow of Frederick; her grandchildren, Trish, Curtis, Cordell, Christopher and Monica; her brothers, Leonard, Ray, George and Richard Baugher; and her sisters, Cathy, Loretta, Joyce, Carol and Frances Baugher.

Mrs. Baugher was preceded in death by her brother, Samuel Baugher.

A memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, at the Apostolic Lighthouse United Pentecostal Church, 7857 Gambrills Park Road, Frederick. The Rev. Michael W. Mangold will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Apostolic Lighthouse United Pentecostal Church 7857 Gambrills Park Road, Frederick, MD 21792, in honor of the family.

Arrangements and services are by the Keeney and Basford, P.A., Funeral Home, Frederick.

Mr. Walter Chrobot

Walter Lee Chrobot, 68, of Taylorsville, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, at York Hospital in York, Pa., as a result of an automobile accident in Pennsylvania.

He was a master carpenter, painter and farmer in Taylorsville.

Recently he retired due to health issues and devoted his life to farming, his home and his family.

He was born in Howard County on March 14, 1940, and was the son of the late Comus Chrobot Sr. and the late Elsie V. Chrobot (nee Swartz).

He is survived by his wife, Margie A. Chrobot (nee Arrowood); four children, Karen Lee Matulonis and son-in-law, Wayne, of Sykesville, Walter Lee Chrobot Jr. and daughter-in-law, Susan, of Baltimore, Michael Eugene Chrobot and daughter-in-law, Krisie, of Hanover, Pa. and Mickey Chrobot of Taylorsville.

Also survived by six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are his sister, Shirley J. Bennett of Fairfield, Pa. and a number of nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by brother, Comus (Sonny) Chrobot Jr.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield. Pastor Mindy Coates of Mt. Gilead and Patapsco United Methodist Church will officiate.

Interment will be in Jennings Chapel cemetery, Woodbine, Howard County.

Mr. George Simpson

Mr. George "Joe" Lacy Simpson died Sept. 25, 2008. He was born June, 28, 1943.

He was the husband of the late Saxon Voss Yonetz Simpson and son of the late Lacy and Oudia Simpson.

He was loved by family and respected by friends. His hobbies included fishing, trap shooting and music. He was retired from Golden Mile Liquors where he worked with family until 2007. His absence will be felt by many.

He is survived by his son, Christopher S. Simpson; brother, Curtis Simpson; and sisters, Lillian (Pork) Marlene Thomas and Mary (Peanut) C. Maripani; as well as countless aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and in-laws.

Services will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, at his home, 916 Motter Avenue. Go to the basement back door. Everyone is welcome.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to Hospice of Frederick County, 516 Trail Avenue, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21701.
