Mrs. Theresa Meyer

Theresa Serge Meyer, 75, of Hagerstown, passed away Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008, at the Washington Adventist Hospital, Takoma Park.

Born Saturday, May 20, 1933, in Philadelphia, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Orris Serge and the late Marie Knox Serge.

She was a 1955 graduate of St. Joseph College in Emmitsburg. She taught at St. John Elementary School in Frederick and was later employed with Westat, also in Frederick. Theresa was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Hagerstown, and was a former member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Frederick for 40 years before moving to Hagerstown. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and the Catholic Golden Age. She also was very active in Girl Scouting as a leader and trainer for more than 25 years and she also enjoyed being active in the Summerland Community.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, George Charles Meyer; one daughter, Mary M. Kramer and husband, Kurt, of Williamsport; a son, Chuck Meyer and Vicki Hall of Hagerstown; a sister, Celestina Bethel of Sarasota, Fl.; six grandchildren, Lisa Durgan of Richmond, Va.; Julie Durgan of Frederick; Nathan Meyer of Decatur, Ala.; Ryan Meyer of Decatur, Ala.; Tabatha Thornsberry of Lexington, Ky.; and Sabrina Hall of Hagerstown.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Rita Hodges.

A memorial mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, at St. Ann Catholic Church, 1525 Oak Hill Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. C. Douglas Kenney as celebrant.

Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. A wake service will be held at 8:30 p.m. and led by Father Kenney.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Breast Cancer Awareness of the Cumberland Valley, 324 Antietam St., Hagerstown, MD 21740.

Mrs. Ethel Fuld

Ethel M. Fuld, 75, of Westminster, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2008, at her home.

Born July 6, 1933 in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Frank Rose and the late Mary Rose Duvall (nee Nickey). She was predeceased by stepfather, the late Edwin Duvall. She was the wife of the late Kurt Fuld.

Ethel had worked in administrative work for many years. She had worked for Bishop's Garth, Westminster, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Westminster, the City of Westminster and for Springfield Hospital Center. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is survived by son, Keith E. Fuld of Westminster; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen L. and Jerry Shores of Newcastle, Calif. and Deborah C. and Bruce Dzielinski of Middletown; brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Sally Rose of Edgewood and Janet and William J. Blaney of Sykesville. She is also survived by six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, at the Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, Sykesville. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Marriottsville.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Verna Keys

Verna M. (Aldridge) Keys, 99, of Baltimore and formerly of New Market, died Oct. 11, 2008.

Mrs. Keys was born Sept. 26, 1909, as the daughter of the late Willis Edgar and Carrie Belle (Ecker) Aldridge.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Leroy Keys; son, Lee Keys; brothers, Raymond and Reno; and sisters, Ercie (Esworthy) and Mary (Gittings Shrudes).

Mrs. Keys is survived by her daughter, Eileen Zang and husband Alfred; daughter-in-law, Susan (Corn) Keys; grandchildren, Debra and Christian Zang, Lisa Boles, Leanne Rickert, and Joshua and Joel Brooks; 12 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, at Miller-Dippel Funeral Home, Inc., 6415 Belair Road, Baltimore, MD 21206. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, at Epiphany Lutheran Church.

Interment will be at Gardens of Faith cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to Epiphany Lutheran Church, 4301 Raspe Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21206.

Ms. Nanette Pearson

Ms. Nanette L. Pearson, 46, of Mount Airy, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2008, at Suburban Hospital, Bethesda.

Born Sept. 19, 1962 in Riverdale, she was the daughter of the late Robert L. and Mary J. Moore Pearson, who both died earlier this year. She was a wonderful mother and loved being with her family.

Surviving are two children, Candice Pearson of Mount Airy and Joseph Teegarden and wife Tammy of Dundalk; five grandchildren, Julienne Dunn, Jayden Teegarden, Savanna Atwell, Ava Atwell and Brady Atwell; a sister, Nadine Owens and husband Charlie of Savage; two brothers, Robert Pearson Jr. and wife Laura of Mount Airy and Rory Moore and wife Trish of Missouri; five nieces and nephews, Michael Pearson, Robert Pearson, Alesia Owens, Adam Owens and Christopher Owens.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mount Airy, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, with Rev. Franklin Bishop officiating.

Interment will follow in Columbia Memorial Park, Columbia.

Mr. Perry 'Ham' Gray

Perry Hamilton "Ham" Gray, 94, entered into eternal rest Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008, at his home in Frederick.

He was the husband of the late Hattie Virginia "Gin" Gray. He was born Oct. 5, 1914, as the son of Oliver and Mida Jenkins Gray.

He attended school in Montgomery County. He was employed by the State of Maryland Highway Department and also a railroad worker. He was a trustee board member of John Wesley United Methodist Church. He also served on the cemetery committee. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, making apple butter and his family.

He is survived by a daughter, Ula Gray Scott; five grandchildren, Raynard P. Scott, Eunice V. Barriner, Raymond L. "Chip" Scott Jr., Deena D. Jenerette and Rayel L. Stanton; seven great-grandchildren, Qiana, Brandon, Brentin Barriner, Chloe Scott, Tre'mon, Kaia Jenerette and Whitney Stanton; five great-great-grandchildren, Qieon, Mle', Da'yan, Devon Barriner and Amani Williams; one granddaughter-in-law, Carla Scott; one grandson-in-law, Michael Stanton; three sisters, Blanche Green, Bernice Williams and Ianthia Gray; one brother, Eugene Gray; five sisters-in-law, Mildred Hackey, Delois Gamble, Elizabeth Gray, Doris Hackey and Barbara Hackey; two brothers-in-law, George Hackey and Warnell Gamble; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by 14 siblings.

Arrangements are by Snowden's Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at Community of Faith United Methodist Church, 22420 Frederick Road, Clarksburg, with the Rev. Harry Smith officiating. A viewing will begin at 10 a.m. and funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 17. Internment will follow services.

Mrs. Sandra Griggs

Mrs. Sandra Faye Mullins Griggs, 57, of Damascus, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2008, at her home. She was the wife of Lallie R. "Butch" Griggs, her husband of 26 years.

Born Feb. 19, 1951, in Norton, Va., she was a daughter of the late Russell Oscar and Belva Mae Boggs Mullins.

Mrs. Griggs was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and family.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, Dawn Marce Baker and husband, James Gordon, of Elizabethton, Tenn., Devan Reyna Wallace and husband, Charles David, of Stephen City, Va. and Darrah Leanne McFetridge and husband, Clifford James, of Elizabethton, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Ashley Amber Hamilton, Jordan Skylar Wilson, Dylan Peyton Wallace, Hailey Pearl McFetridge and Madison McKenzie Wallace; and siblings, Gervis Mullins of Rockville, Larry Boswell of Germantown, Barry Boswell and wife, Rosanne, of North Carolina, and Peggy Bentley and husband, Steve, of Germantown; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In additions to her parents, Mrs. Griggs was preceded in death by brothers, Wilburn Mullins and Harry Boswell; sister, Mona Jean Tucker; stepmother, Myrtle Gene Mullins; and grandson, Charles Dennis Hamilton III.

Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at First Baptist Church of Gaithersburg, 200 W. Diamond Avenue, Gaithersburg, MD 20877.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the American Diabetes Association, 1025 Connecticut Ave., N.W., Suite 1005, Washington, D.C. 20036-4104.

Arrangements are by Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, Damascus.

Mrs. Mary Kaufman

Mary E. Kaufman, 82, of Easton, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2008, at Genesis Healthcare, The Pines, Easton.

Born in Pennsylvania Aug. 14, 1926, she was the daughter of the late John E. and Myrtle Wolfe Shaak. After graduating from nursing school, with a registered nursing degree, she worked for Memorial Hospital at Easton and the Talbot County Health Department until retiring in the late 1980s.

Her husband, Joseph Grayson Kaufman Jr., whom she married Aug. 25, 1958, died Nov. 30, 1994.

She was a member of the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, a volunteer for the Talbot County Historical Society and the Chesapeake Center, where she served on the board of directors, and was very active in various capacities in the community.

Mrs. Kaufman is survived by two daughters, Jill Mercer Kaufman of Easton and Leigh A. Kaufman of Gaithersburg; one sister, Jean Noll of Ohio; two brothers, Richard Shaak and Frederick Shaak, both of Myerstown, Pa.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., Easton.

Interment services will be private.

Memorial donations may be made to the Talbot Humane Society, P.O. Box 1143, Easton, MD 21601.

Mr. Ronald DeGrange

Ronald L. DeGrange, 44, of Frederick, died Sunday Oct. 12, 2008 in an ATV accident. He was the husband of Melissa D. McFarland DeGrange.

Born Sept. 20, 1964, in Frederick, he was the son of Paul A. and Ann R. Smith DeGrange.

Mr. DeGrange was a lifelong resident of Frederick. He was a graduate from Gov. Thomas Johnson High School, Class of 1982 and currently was employed with the Luck Stone Corp. in Leesburg, Va.

Ronnie was a very kind person and was forever helping out his family and friends. He could never stay still for too long and was always on the move. He came from a very large family who loved and adored him very much and will dearly miss him.

Mr. DeGrange, in addition to his wife and parents, is survived by his sons, Ronald L. and Daniel E. DeGrange of Brunswick and Tyler and Zachary Brashears of Hagerstown; his daughter, Brooke Crosby of Hagerstown; his brothers, Paul A. DeGrange Jr. and wife, Paula, of Rocky Ridge, Douglas W. DeGrange and wife, Gina, of Ocean City, Mark L. DeGrange and fianc?e, Shelley Long, of New Market, David A. DeGrange and Richard Cline both of Frederick; his sisters, Robin E. Legg and husband, Gene, and Cynthia A. Forder and husband, William, of Frederick. He was also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mr. DeGrange was preceded in death by his two sisters, Karen Lynn and Kimberly Sue DeGrange and his grandparents, Charles and Ethel Smith and Olive and Roscoe DeGrange.

Visitation with family will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, at the Keeney and Basford, P.A., Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, from the funeral home. Major Raymond Pruitt will officiate. Interment will be at the Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

Pallbearers will be Richard Wood, Gene Legg III, Brian DeGrange, Jeff Beachley, Richard Beachley, Douglas DeGrange, Mark DeGrange and Randy Boone.

Mr. George Geisbert Jr.

George "Jackie" Phebus Geisbert Jr., 54, of Lovettsville, Va., passed away Friday, Oct. 10, 2008, at West Loudoun County Memorial Hospital, Leesburg, Va.

He was born March 28, 1954 in Frederick County, and was the son of Phyllis Geisbert Leager of Baltimore and the late George P. Geisbert Sr.

He was an automobile mechanic.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by one son, George P. Geisbert III of Hampton, Va.; one daughter, Amanda Geisbert of Lovettsville, Va.; one brother, Timothy Geisbert of Baltimore; two grandchildren, Kara Geisbert and George P. Geisbert IV; two aunts, Geraldine Best and husband, Tom, of New Market and Dorothy Roderick of Frederick; special friends, Charles and Shirley DeBow; and a number of cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father and his wife, Debera Danner Geisbert.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, at the John T. Williams Funeral Home, 100 Petersville Road, Brunswick, with Rev. Roland England officiating.

Internment will be in Union cemetery in Lovettsville, Va.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home; the funeral home will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. for the convenience of friends.

Pallbearers will be Ron Thompson, Bobby Fleming, Fred L. George, Timmy Geisbert, Alvin Blankenship, Harold Anderson, Charles Everhart and John Bynaker.

Mrs. Katie Gorelick

Mrs. Katie Gorelick, 91, of Frederick, affectionately known by friends and family as Grandma Katie, passed away Monday, Oct. 14, 2008, at her home. She was the wife of Philip Gorelick, who preceded her in death.

Born Dec. 2, 1916, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was orphaned shortly after birth and grew up in a local Brooklyn orphanage. At the age of 16, she went to live with a foster family in Patchogue, N.Y., where she lived until her marriage to Philip. She moved to Frederick in 1985 to be closer to her family.

Grandma Katie was a loving, compassionate person who engaged all she met with friendly conversation and incredible generosity. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with grandchildren and family. Grandma Katie enjoyed the beach, was very much a free spirit, her fashion statements were legendary and her generosity was evident by her actions. If you commented that you liked something she was wearing, she would literally offer you the shirt off her back.

She is survived by her son, Peter Gorelick and wife Margaret of Frederick; three grandchildren, Melanie Walmsley and husband Liam of Wilmington, N.C., Kathleen Gorelick and Kellsie Gorelick of Frederick; and many, many friends.

Interment services will be private. A memorial service is planned.
