Minnie Lee Curran of Centreville, MD. Died February 5, 2001 at the Corsica Hills Nursing Center in Centreville, MD. She was 77.
Born on April 2, 1923 in Rose Hill, VA, she was the daughter of the late Jack & Maude Turner Pauley. She attended school in Rose Hill, VA and in 1945 she moved to Annapolis where she met and married
Robert Daniel Curran on January 19th 1946. Mrs. Curran was a homemaker raising her family in the Annapolis area.
Upon Mr. Curran’s retirement they moved to Florida for 17 years and returned to Maryland in 1998 to reside with their daughter. Mr. Curran predeceased her in June of 1998. She was a member of the Women of the Moose in Sebastian, FL.
She is survived by a daughter, Lavinia Ann Ehle of Centerville, MD, a son, Clinton Curran of Grant, FL; three brothers, Robert Pauley of Ypsilanti, MI, Bill Pauley of Rose Hill, VA. & Boyd Pauley of Ewing, VA; two sisters, Hassey Osborne of Rose Hill, VA. & Alnedita Buchanan of Davidsonville, MD; 6 grandchildren & 5 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sons; Neal Curran in Feb of 1997 and Paul Curran in Oct. of 1980.
Memorial services will be held 7PM Friday February 9th, 2001 at the Centreville Church of God in Centreville, MD. Inurnment will be privately held in MD. Veterans cemetery

Kirby L. Smith of Chestertown, Md. died on Monday February 5, 2001 at Kent and Queen Anne's Hospital. He was 80.
Born in Princess Anne, Maryland on February 26, 1920, he was the son of the late Kirby Lawson Sr. and Mary Ellen Majors Smith. Mr. Smith was a 1940 graduate of Washington High School in Princess Anne. He served in the Merchant Marines during WWII from 1942-1945 in the Pacific and Atlantic Theatres. He was honorably discharged in 1945.
He returned to Chestertown Md. where he studied economics at Washington College. Mr. Smith graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1948. In October of 1949, he married
Peggy Benton, they lived in Fruitland, Md. from 1951 until 1963 when they moved back to Chestertown, Md. Mr. Smith worked as a partner with Jack Kieffer at Kirby Memorials. He retired as owner of Kirby Memorials in 1984. Mr. Smith was a member of the Chestertown Rotary Club where in 1999 he was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow. He was also a member of the Princess Anne Masonic Lodge, Washington College Alumni, Christ United Methodist Church, American Legion Post #36, and CRYCC. Mr. Smith enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, and sailing.
In addition to his wife of 51 years he is survived by a daughter: Bonnie S. Smith of Chestertown, Md., a son: Lawson Smith and his wife Pat Vickers Smith of Chestertown, Md., along with 3 grandchildren: Christopher Jones of Glyndon, Md., Elizabeth Smith and Kirby Virginia Smith both of Chestertown, Md.
Funeral services will be held on Friday February 9, 2001 at 11:00 A.M. at Christ United Methodist Church High Street, Chestertown, Md. Relatives and friends may call on Thursday February 8, 2001 between the hours of 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home 130 Speer Rd. Chestertown, Md. where a Masonic service will be held at 8:00. Interment will be in St. Paul's cemetery
near Chestertown, Md.

Shirley J. DeCaro, of Easton, died at her home near Easton on Sunday, February 4, 2001. She was 54.
Born in Altoona, PA, Feb. 23, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Willis J. and Maxine Wagner Cheek. After graduating from the Upper Merion High School in King of Prussia, PA in 1965, she, in May of 1971, married
Daniel F. DeCaro. They made their home in Pottstown, PA and then Seaford, Delaware before moving to Easton, MD in 1990.
A licensed auctioneer and appraiser, she was the President of DeCaro Auction Sales, Inc. at the time of her death. While living in Seaford, DE, she was a volunteer for the Nanticoke Hospital Auxiliary and the American Heart Association. Since moving to Easton, she had been a member of the Easton Church of God and a volunteer for the Festival of Trees. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a daughter, Amy J. Haddaway of Easton; a brother, Ronald J. Cheek of Seminole, FL and three grandchildren, Korin Taylor, Briana Jean and Brendan Daniel Haddaway.
Funeral services will be held at noon, Wednesday, February 7, 2001 at the Easton Church of God where friends may call one hour prior to service. Burial will be at the Oxford cemetery, Oxford, MD.

Janine Yvonne Fino of Newcomb died at her residence on Sunday, February 4, 2001. She was 51.
Born in Washington, D.C. on July 7, 1949, she was the daughter of Albert Fino of Newcomb and the late Jacqueline Audran Fino. She attended the Parkview School in Washington, D.C from 1956-61, the Takoma Park School from 1961-64 and Stephen Knolls in Wheaton from 1964-70.
Her first job was with J& D Food Service at the Naval Surface Weapons Center in White Oak from 1980-84. Her next job was with the Woodmere Pastry Shop from 1987 until 1994 when she went to work at the Chesapeake Center. In 1999 she began working for Delmarva Community Services where she was employed at the time of her death.
n 1965, Janine participated in the very first Special Olympics at Eunice Shriver's house. Thirty years later, she was still swimming competitively and winning medals. Janine was a member of the YMCA since 1965, the Special Olympics of Maryland since 1965, and she was elected as the 2000 Secretary of People on the Go.
In addition to her father, she is survived by two sisters, Anne Marie Solomon and her husband Jason, and Suzanne Carley and her husband George, all of Newcomb; and two nieces, April and Suzanne Carley, also of Newcomb.
Funeral services will be held at the Fellows, Helfenbein, & Newnam Funeral Home, Easton on Wednesday, February 7, 2001 at 2:00 PM. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Oxford cemetery.

Dawson G. Kenton, of Easton, died at The Union Memorial Hospital Baltimore, on Sunday, February 4, 2001. He was 79.
Born in Greensboro, MD on April 30, 1921, he was the son of the late Gilbert B. and Edith Leverage Kenton. After attending school, he served in the U. S. Navy during World War II as a Gunner's Mate Second Class. Following his release from active duty in December of 1945, he returned to Talbot County where, on January 23, 1946, he married
the former Marjorie V. Messix. They made their home on Old Cordova Road where he farmed for 30 years. He then worked in various mechanic jobs until retiring in 1998. A life member of E. E. Streets Memorial Post #5118, V.F.W. in Easton, he was also a former member of the Talbot Farm Bureau.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Peggy Shortall of Easton, MD and Patricia Ellers Baker of Seaford, DE; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren with another expected in June.
Funeral services will be held at the graveside at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Easton, on Wednesday, February 7th, at 10 A. M.
Memorial donations may be made to Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School, 900 High Street, Easton, Md. 21601.
Ann Marie O'Brien, of Easton, died at The Memorial Hospital at Easton on Sunday, February 4, 2001. She was 71.
Born in Bronxville, N.Y., September 24, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Myron and Dorothy Thomas Schlater. She graduated from Marymount Academy in Terrytown, N. Y. and then attended Marymount College in Terrytown. Prior to moving to Easton in 1988, she had lived in Vero Beach, FL, Orleans, MA and New Canaan, CT. While living in New Canaan, she had owned and operated an antique store-gift shop and in Orleans had managed a similar-type business.
Mrs. O'Brien is survived by her husband, John M. O'Brien whom she married
on Sept. 21, 1974 in New Canaan, CT; a daughter, Amy L. Sherman of Chicago. IL; a son, Roger S. Sherman of Loxhatchee, FL; three step-sons, Howard L. O'Brien of New York City, Jeffrey M. O'Brien of Berwyn, PA and Mark W. O'Brien of Cinnaminson, N.J.; a sister, Muriel S. Ridder of Seal Beach, CA and five grandchildren. Another daughter, Carey M. Sherman, died in 1976.

John "Howard" Krastel, Sr., 77 yrs, of Kennedyville, MD, formally of Baltimore, MD died on February 3rd at Kent and Queen Anne's Hospital in Chestertown, MD.
Mr. Krastel was born in Baltimore, MD, the son of the late Peter J and Gertrude [Coxon] Krastel. He spent all of his formative years in Baltimore. He worked as a Dairy Farmer while in Baltimore and in 1959 moved to Kennedyville, MD where he continued farming as a crop farmer. He and his wife, Jessie raised a family of two.
Mr. Krastel was a member of the Maryland Farm Bureau. In his early years he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He and his wife loved to travel as they traveled extensively throughout the United States and several foreign countries. He enjoyed family activities and particularly enjoyed being with his children and grandchildren.
Mr. Krastel is survived by his wife of 56 yrs, Jessie M. Krastel a son, John H. Krastel, Jr. both of Kennedyville, MD, and another son, Frederick Joseph Krastel of Polk City, Iowa.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, February 8th, at 10 A.M. from St. Dennis Roman Catholic Church in Galena, MD. Rev. Fr. Thomas Peterman will officiate. A viewing will be held on Wednesday evening, February 7th from 7-9 P.M. at the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 370 Cypress Street, Millington, MD. Interment will follow Thursday's service in Galena cemetery. Pallbearers will be Andrew Hill, Andrew Krastel, Joseph Krastel, Matthew Krastel, William Coxon, Link Mullrausen, and Dr. William Grill.
