Mr. Carroll Lescalleet

Carroll William Lescalleet, 66, of Keymar, died from natural causes Monday, Dec. 1, 2008, at his home.

Born April 19, 1942, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Harvey Alton and Lula Idalee Whitmore Lescalleet.

He was preceded in death by his life partner, June Marie Shewbridge.

He had been employed as a heavy equipment operator for Raymond Martin Excavating.

His hobby was playing bluegrass music on many different musical instruments, which were all self-taught. He also enjoyed raising animals, especially rabbits, and working on small engines.

He is survived by one daughter, Jacqueline Harris and husband, Joshua, of State Line, Pa.; four sisters, Frances I. Birks of New Oxford, Pa., Mildred L. Moberly of Jefferson, Nancy L. Ray of Emmitsburg, and Helen L. Johnson of Thurmont; one brother, Dennis W. Lescalleet of Keymar; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, M. Kathryn Southerland, M. Genevieve Besore and Patsy Hess; and two brothers, George F. Lescalleet and Earl A. Lescalleet.

Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Friday at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home. The Rev. R. Thomas Fralin Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in the Brownsville Heights cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations to assist the family may be made to Jacqueline Harris, P.O. Box 165, State Line, PA 17263.

Mr. Myron Silverman

Myron S. Silverman, 93, died Friday, Oct. 17, 2008, at DuBose Health Center, Chapel Hill, N.C.

Myron grew up in Ellenville, N.Y., and graduated in 1937 with a bachelor's degree in bacteriology from Cornell. He earned an master's degree in bacteriology from Cornell in 1938, and a Ph.D. in bacteriology from UC-Berkeley in 1950.

During World War II, Myron was a major in the Army Sanitary Corps, and served as head of the military research hospital in New Caledonia. In the course of his professional career, he held the position of head of the Microbiology and Immunology Branch at the Naval Radiological Defense Laboratory in San Francisco, was a research fellow for the National Cancer Institute, U.S. Public Health Service, at Guy's Hospital in London, and held a fellowship at Brookhaven National Laboratory.

In 1970, he was recruited by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and during his 25-year tenure, he was a professor with the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, a researcher with the UNC Dental Research Center, and assistant dean of the Graduate School.

Myron's research was extensively published. Much of his work concerned immunization against yersinia pestis (bubonic plague), but he also researched and published extensively about transplantation immunity, the effects of irradiation, and periodontal disease.

Survivors include his niece, Susan Miller of Ann Arbor, Mich., and her husband, Allen Batteau; a grand-nephew, Adam Miller-Batteau of Chicago; several cousins; and close friends, Charles Milone of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Peter Knutson of Durham, N.C.

The family welcomes friends at a memorial celebration of Myron's life at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at the Chapel Mausoleum of Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 I-15 N, Frederick.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Myron S. Silverman Endowment Fund, Attn: Mary Anne Larson, The Graduate Student Center,--211A West Cameron Avenue, Room 201, CB 5492, Chapel Hill, NC 27599-5492.

Mr. William Davidson

William P. Davidson, 84, of Westminster and formerly of Ohio and Virginia, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2008, at the Carroll Hospital Center.

Born Sept. 4, 1924, in Columbus, Ohio, he was the son of the late William Bailey and Lucile Hillis Davidson. He was the husband of Hope Hutson Davidson, his wife of 58 years.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a sonar technician on the submarine, USS Whale. He successfully completed four war patrols in the Pacific.

After the war, he received a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Ohio State University. He began his career at the National Security Agency as a cryptologist where he worked for 33 years before retiring in 1980. During that time he attended the Naval War College in Newport, R.I., earning a degree in naval warfare.

Some of Mr. Davidson's many interests were coin, stamp and postcard collecting. He and his wife enjoyed traveling abroad and to all 50 states, and always supported his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes.

Surviving in addition to his wife are daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Gary Sommers of Middletown; sons and daughters-in-law, Warren B. and Terri Davidson of Gastonia, N.C. and Wayne S. and Mary Ann Davidson of Andover, N.J.; son, William A. Davidson of Laurel; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandson.

The family will receive friends at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, at Krug Chapel, until time of service. A celebration of life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Carroll Lutheran Village, Krug Chapel, 300 St. Luke Circle, Westminster. Chaplain Jimmie Schwartz will officiate.

Interment with military honors will be held at noon Friday, Dec. 5, at Columbia Gardens cemetery in Arlington, Va. Mr. Davidson's grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to the William P. Davidson Endowment Fund, 300 St. Luke Circle, Westminster, MD 21158.

Arrangements are by Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster.

Mrs. Anna Keith

Mrs. Anna Louise (Schultz) Keith, 86, of Mount Airy, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, at the Lorien Nursing Home.

Married March 14, 1942, she was the loving wife of Rodney R. Keith, who died Feb. 13, 2003.

The eldest of 10 children, Anna was born Jan. 25, 1922, in Frederick County, as the daughter of the late James L. And Goldie P. (Baugher) Schultz.

Mrs. Keith was a loving, caring foster mother for many children for more than 30 years, raising two as her own.

Mrs. Keith was a devoted and prayerful member of Mount Airy Full Gospel Church. She loved her church family and appreciated the Lowery family for helping her regularly attend church services and other church activities. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Surviving are daughter, Joan L. Yednock and husband, Ken, of Rockville; two granddaughters, Trisha L. Farrell and husband, Joseph, of Dalian, China; and Kimberly A. Yednock and husband, Todd, of Richmond, Va.; four great-grandchildren, Malachi, Faith, Micah and Caleb Farrell; and two foster daughters, Leta Mooney of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Garnet Bond of Iuka, Miss.

Also surviving are four sisters, Edna P. Baer of Frederick, Ruth I. Pochran and husband, Jim, of Frederick, Jean H. Villalva and husband, Ruben, of Roanoke, Va., and Kathy O'Conner of Hagerstown; sister-in-law, Ruby Watkins and husband, Luther, of Frederick; brother-in-law, Edwin "Tommy" C. Keith of Frederick; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by son, Rodney R. Keith Jr., Feb. 17, 1989; two sisters, Mary E. Creager and Faye A. Keyser; three brothers, James L. Schultz Jr., Charles H. Schultz and William L. Schultz.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, at the Mount Airy Full Gospel Church, 13949 Penn Shop Road, Mount Airy. Pastor Thomas Gue will officiate. Family will receive friends one hour prior to services.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, in Parklawn cemetery, Rockville.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Feed The Children, P.O. Box 36, Oklahoma City, OK 73101-0036 or the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 1003, Frederick, MD 21705.

Arrangements are by Stauffer Funeral Home, Mount Airy.

Mr. Sheridan Collins

Mr. Sheridan F. Collins, 97, of Frederick, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, at Northampton Manor. He was the husband of the late Clara Tyler Collins.

Born Feb. 1, 1911, in Walkersville, he was the son of the late Frank W. and Caroline Brown Collins.

Mr. Collins was a former member of Jackson United Methodist Church. In earlier years, he was employed for many years as a private chef for Geraldine Williams and worked at F.S.K. Hotel and Mt. St. Mary's. In later years he did private catering.

He is survived by a son, Sheridan Collins Jr. of Mount Union, Pa.; daughters, Yvonne Stanton of Virginia Beach, Va., Alice Ann Buchanan of Frederick, and Caroline Hanley and husband, James, of Virginia Beach, Va. There are 38 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, John William and Earl Maynard Collins; two daughters, Shirley Loreta Jones and Jane Winfree; a brother, Funston Collins; and a sister, Amelia Harris. Mr. Collins was the last of his immediate family.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at the funeral home. Rev. Sherman Mason will officiate.

Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.

Infant Hailey Truxillo

Hailey Janel Truxillo was born into heaven on Nov. 26, 2008.

She was laid to rest by her loving parents, Erin Gastley Truxillo and Thomas Charles Truxillo Jr. on Saturday, Nov. 29, at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Charlotte, N.C.

With Hailey's passing, we remind others that this life is one to be celebrated. Although we will miss her every day, she will forever remain in our hearts and prayers.

Hailey is survived by her great-grandmother, Helen Truxillo; maternal grandparents, Mike and Betty Gastley; paternal grandparents, Thomas and Debbie Truxillo; aunts, Kelly Gastley, Lauren Gastley, Alexis Truxillo, and Erin Elizabeth Truxillo; uncles, Kerrin Wolf, Patrick Truxillo and John Truxillo; cousin, Reagan Truxillo.

Mr. Robert Watkins

Robert Francis "Bob" Watkins, 55, of Boonsboro, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008, at his home.

Born June 23, 1953, in Washington, Pa., he was the son of Alexander Floyd Watkins and Anna Juanita Dunn.

He worked for many years at the Scott Key Center.

He was loved by many and he will be greatly missed.

He will be remembered and is survived by these family members -- Teresa Henry, Star and James Dodson, Destiny, Jessica and Katelyn Moreland, David Henry, John Kessler, Jamie Shillingburg, Richard Kessler, Wendy Conlon, Karmann Kessler, Angela and Jonathan Holmes, Gavin Holmes, Cailee Hamilton, Angie and Chris Wade, Payton, CJ and Aloura Wade.

Services will be private for family members.

Arrangements are by Stauffer Funeral Home, Frederick.

Mrs. Eleanor Frye

Mrs. Eleanor C. Frye, 83, of Frederick, died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008. She was the wife of the late Richard Allen Frye Sr. who died on Oct. 19, 2006.

Born Aug. 19, 1925, in Boyds, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Georgianna Virts.

Mrs. Frye worked as a nursing assistant in a local nursing home.

She is survived by her daughter, Jeannette Snyder and husband, John of Rockville; two sons, Richard Allen Frye Jr. of Clarksburg, and Michael Arthur Frye of Frederick; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Evelyn Burdette of Frederick and one brother, Arthur Virts of Boyds.

Mrs. Frye was predeceased by one sister, Margaret Stone of Frederick.

Graveside services will begin at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28 at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Rt. 15 North, Frederick. Officiating will be the Rev. Burnis D. Barrett. Those wishing to attend should assemble inside the main entrance of the cemetery by 2:20 p.m.

Arrangements are by Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick.

Mrs. Audrey Horne

Mrs. Audrey Jean Horne, 86, of Harrisonburg, Va., passed away Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008, at Harrisonburg Health and Rehabilitation Center,

Audrey was born Aug. 22, 1922, in Harrisonburg, Va., and was a daughter of the late Irving Thomas and Eva (Jenkins) Riddle.

She was a member of the Bridgewater Church of the Brethren and enjoyed singing in the Heritage Haven Choir.

She was united in marriage Aug. 21, 1941, to Christian Bernard Horne, who preceded her in death.

Audrey is survived by two daughters, Ramona G. Peale, of Mt. Crawford, and Jeanette H. Tuck and husband, Mack, of Frederick, Md.; one son, Charles E. Horne and wife, Barbara, of Woodbridge; four sisters, Violet Vitcavich, of Pennsylvania, Helen Creasy, of Broadway, Beverly Huggins of Dayton, and Carol Fitzwater, of Harrisonburg; five grandchildren, Candace Teter and husband, Kevin, of Luray, Christopher Horne and wife, Natalie, of Richmond, Matthew Peale, of Mt. Crawford, Meredith Tuck, of Arlington, and Kelsey Tuck, of Frederick; and three great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Deanna and Lauren Teter.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Johnson Funeral Service Chapel in Bridgewater, Va.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, at Johnson Funeral Service Chapel in Bridgewater, Va., with the Rev. Dan Longenecker officiating. Interment will follow at Beaver Creek Church cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Harrisonburg-Rockingham SPCA, P.O. Box 413, Harrisonburg, VA 22803. Arrangements are by Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater.
