Mr. Doris Kiser

Doris E. Kiser, 81, of Lewisburg, Pa., died Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 3, 2008, at the Evangelical Community Hospital after being suddenly stricken at her home Sunday night.

Doris was born in Thurmont on Dec. 9, 1926, as a daughter of the late Albert Merhle and Edith Elizabeth (Tressler) Ecker. She married Charles Jack Kiser, Feb. 2, 1946, and her death breaks a marital union of 62 years.

In her early days she worked for the Taneytown Rubber factory making ponchos for the troops; then Thurmont Clair Frock Co.; and later for her mother-in-law, Margaret Seipler, at the Koffee Kup in Frederick. After moving to Lewisburg in 1961, she worked at the JPM Company until her retirement in 1976.

Doris was a loving and caring person, who never hesitated to give to others — though she would go without. She dearly loved her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Doris was a baseball fan, and loved the old Baltimore Colts football team. Doris will be remembered for her warmth and spirit; for her love of life and for her gift in recognizing the special qualities in everyone she met.

She loved watching God's birds and the squirrels that Jack fed, she traveled abroad, but especially enjoyed yearly trips to the beach with nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. She enjoyed a weekly trip to play the punch boards and a yearly trip to Kent Island, to play the slots.

Besides her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Deone Pawling DeLizio of Lewisburg; a grandson Jason Pawling; and great-granddaughter, Sidney of Elizabethtown; granddaughter, Jennifer and husband Paul McConachy; great-granddaughter, Maddison and great-grandson, Kiser of Brisbane Australia.

Also surviving are nieces, Beverly and Barry Mapp of Harrington, Del., Linda and Ed Skewes of Manassas, Va., Audrey and John Stush of Frederick, and Debbie Ecker of Thurmont; nephews, David and Sue Rayfield of Ocean City, Ronald and Rosie Brown of Selbyville, Del., Andy and Sylvia Coe of Orlando, Fla., Gregory and Peggy Ecker of Myrtle Beach, S.C. and Larry and Donna Ecker of Thurmont; sister, Audrie Coe of Silver Spring; and sisters-in-law, Grace Ecker and Janie Ecker of Thurmont.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Merhle "Doc" Ecker and Albert "Abe" Ecker; sisters, Winifred "Wini" Ecker and husband Hiram Brown and Shirley Ecker Baker and husband Donald "Bake" Baker; nephews, Bradley Baker, Steven Ecker and Douglas Ecker; and niece, Barbara Oxenham; and brother-in-law, Andrew Coe.

A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday, Dec. 13, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 103 E. Main St., Thurmont. Rev. Jan Daffern will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Blue Ridge cemetery.

The family will provide flowers and asks that donations in Doris' memory be made to the donor's local S.P.C.A.
