Mr. William E. Keith

Mr. William Edward Keith, 70, of Ijamsville, died Monday morning, Dec. 22, 2008, at his residence. He was the husband of Mrs. Shirley Jean Grove Keith, his wife of 40 years.

Born Sept. 13, 1938, in Lewisdale, he was a son of the late William Howard and Frances Louise Beetz Keith. He attended Damascus High School.

Mr. Keith operated Keith and Sons Lawn Service and more recently drove a school bus for Montgomery County public schools.

He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, 371, Frederick, for many years.

Surviving besides his wife are four children, Bernadette Clark of Frederick, Kenny Keith and wife, Letha of Damascus, Jermaine Crocker of Altoona, Pa., and Melissa Keith of New Market; as well as eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

The Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, Damascus, is handling the arrangements. There will be no calling at the funeral home. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 24, at Bethesda United Methodist Church, 11901 Bethesda Church Road, Damascus, MD 20872. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10 a.m. The Rev. Henry G. Butler will officiate.

Inurnment will be private and at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702; or to Bethesda United Methodist Church.

Miss Mackenzie Papoi

Miss Mackenzie Ann Marguerite Papoi, 15, of Parkville, died suddenly Saturday, Dec. 21, 2008, in Owings Mills.

She was born Jan. 10, 1993 in Aiea, Hawaii as the daughter of Benjamin Frank Papoi of Parkville and Catherine Michelle Brown Papoi of Gaithersburg. She was a 10th grade student at Parkville High School and was a straight "A" student.

Additionally, Mackenzie was a black belt in karate, an avid skier and snowboarder and a swim instructor for the Lakelands and Tiburones Organizations.

Surviving besides her parents is her stepmother, Dana Papoi of Parkville; stepbrothers, Jared and Jordan Pomfrey, both at home in Parkville; paternal grandparents, Dennie and JoAnn Papoi of Saugatuck, Mich.; maternal grandparents, Sue Brown of Reno, Nev. and Keith and Felicia Brown of San Francisco, Calif.; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

There will not be a public calling at the funeral home. Service will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are by Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, Damascus.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mackenzie's memory to Disabled Sports USA, Wounded Warrior Disabled Sports Project, 451 Hungerford Drive, Suite 100, Rockville, MD 20850.

Mrs. Barbara Shimp

Mrs. Barbara Shimp, 71, of Pineville, La., passed away Monday, Dec. 22, 2008, at her residence.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Pineville. Mrs. Shimp was a very special lady. During her own battles with cancer, she went to different hospitals for experimental treatments so that they could learn from her illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Shimp; parents, Roy and Inez Pryor; brother, Donald S. Pryor.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Scott D. Shimp, Craig A. Shimp; sister, Jacquelyn Huffer and husband, Wayne; and companion, Sam Benoit.

Services for Mrs. Barbara Shimp will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008 at Gene H. Corl Inc. Funeral Chapel and Cremation Center of Monroeville, 4335 Northern Pike (1 block east of Mosside Blvd.-Rte. 48) (A Golden Rule Member).

Interment will be in Plum Creek cemetery.

Friends will be received from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, at Gene H. Corl Inc.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's research hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Mr. Robert Harmon

Mr. Robert E. Harmon, 85, of Frederick, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008, at Golden Living, Frederick. He was preceded in death by his wife Lorna Mae (Roman) Harmon in September 2005.

Born on Feb. 1, 1923 in Union Town, Pa., he was a son of the late Lewis and Dorothy (Tishue) Harmon.

Mr. Harmon was employed as a finance officer with the CIA, allowing him to travel around the world. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II. He enjoyed playing pool, cards and faithfully attended Frederick County Senior Center.

He is survived by his daughter, Christine Elizabeth "Chris" Patterson and husband Frank, of Frederick; two sons, Stephen W. Sweet and wife Bibi of Gaithersburg and Robert E. Harmon Jr. and wife Norma of Hawaii; two granddaughters, Jennifer Needle and husband Scott, Laura Dietrich and husband William; five great-grandchildren, Allison, Adam, Caleb, Lydia and Seth Needle. He will also be remembered by a dear friend; Joleen Hart. He was preceded in death by brothers, William and John Harmon.

Friends and family are invited to gather for a celebration of life from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, at Chris and Frank Patterson's home in Frederick. Call 301-788-6074 for the address and directions.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to either the Frederick Senior Center, 1440 Taney Ave., Frederick, MD 21702 or to Teach Autistic Children Today / TACT, P.O. Box 487 , Braddock Heights, MD 21714-0487 in honor of Robert's great-granddaughter.

Mr. Douglas Baker

Douglas Eugene Baker, 43, of Walkersville and formally of Frederick, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2008, at home following a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of loving wife Ellen Baker.

Born Feb. 11, 1965 in Frederick, he was the son of Naomi Flohr and the late Jimmy Baker and stepson of Harry Lee Crutchley. Doug was a lifelong resident of Frederick and he attended Frederick High School. Prior to his illness, he was employed as a mechanic and in the construction trade.

Doug never let his illness keep him down. He made himself available to lend a hand whenever needed. He enjoyed motorcycles, off-roading, fixing things and spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his wife and parents, Doug is survived by his children, Brandy Smith, Dakota Baker; step-sons, Josh and Sonny Russin; grandchildren, Stormy and Johnny; sister, Carol Printz; brother, Darrin Baker; sister, Misty Brannon and husband Rick; in-laws, Judy and Julius Ginsberg; sister and brother-in-law, Sue Ginsberg and Jeff Crider; and grandfather, Harry E. Crutchley. He is also survived by loving aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Doug leaves behind a long list of special friends, far too many to mention, but special mention to include: Dougie Cook, Kim Cook, Paul Wega, Mandi Sentelle, The Brockey Family, Vernon and Kathy Palmer, Jeanette Taylor, Chris and Karen Reinhart, Wynn Zimmerman, Mitch and Karen Nikirk, and the brotherhood of KGB Off-road club members. He is also survived by his former spouse, Jennifer Baker.

In addition to his father, Mr. Baker was preceded in death by grandparents, Mildred and Roland Flohr; grandmother, Helen Crutchley; and brother-in-law, Wayne Printz.

Besides the care of his wife, Doug was helped in his final days by Hospice of Frederick County, and especially his nurse, Stacey Bowers.

A celebration of Doug's life with a time of sharing will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 40 Fulton Ave., Walkersville. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in Doug's memory be made to Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD, 21702, to help defray final expenses.

Mrs. Grisell Erias

Mrs. Grisell Erias, 59, of Frederick, passed away at home Monday, Dec. 22, 2008, after a brief illness. She was the wife of Anthony Erias, of Frederick, her husband of 11 years.

Born Nov. 19, 1949 in Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Otilio and Ana Cortes. Grisell was an endlessly generous person, with a positive outlook on life. She enjoyed dancing, singing, and classic cinema. She loved to just have fun and enjoy life.

In addition to her loving husband, she is survived by her brother, Hector Cortes and wife Norma; her sister, Camelia Torre and husband Ronald; her brother, Otilio Cortes Jr. and wife Susan; sister-in-law, Rosie Erias; brother-in-law, John Erias, sister-in-law, Margaret Rodriguez and husband Mike; brother-in-law, Frankie Erias; sister-in-law, Molly Rodriguez and husband Dominica; sister-in-law, Carmen Erias; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Angelo Erias.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26 at the Chapel Mausoleum of Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 U.S. Route 15 N., Frederick.--A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, at St. Timothy's Roman Catholic Church, 8614 Biggs Ford Road, Walkersville. Rev. Andy Aaron will officiate.

Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mr. Anthony Erias in care of the funeral home. Arrangements by Resthaven Funeral Services, Skkot Cody, P.A., Frederick.

Mrs. Ruth Martin

Mrs. Ruth Malinda Martin, 90, of Hagerstown, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2008, at the Mennonite Fellowship Home. She was the wife of the late Irvin Shank Martin Sr.

Born Oct. 3, 1918 in Hanover, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Maggie Diller.

Mrs. Martin moved to Mount Airy in 1954 to assist with Mount Airy Mennonite Church, of which her husband was the pastor. She was also active in Martin Electric, a family business established by her husband.

She is survived by one son, Irvin S. Martin Jr. and wife Rachel of Mount Airy; one daughter, Esther L. Kline and husband Charles of Mount Airy; one son-in-law, J.R. Campbell and wife Linda of Greenwood, Del.; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother-in-law, Donald Martin of Hagerstown; one foster brother, Harvey Martin and wife Helen of Chambersburg, Pa.; and one foster son, William Boyd and wife Linda of New Holland, Pa.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Ethel M. Campbell and two sisters, Naomi Martin and Esther Martin.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, at Mount Olive Mennonite Church, Maugansville Road, Maugansville.

A viewing will be held from 9 a.m. until the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, at Mount Airy Mennonite Church, 7101 Watersville Road, Mount Airy. Her nephew, Roger Martin and two grandsons will officiate at the service.

Interment will be in Pine Grove cemetery, South Main Street, Mount Airy.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mount Airy Mennonite Church, P.O. Box 1027, Mount Airy, MD 21771. The donations will be used toward a water project in Nairobi, Kenya and will benefit a couple they assisted with education in the U.S. from 1966 to 1970.

Mr. Freddie Mowell

Mr. Freddie Carlton Mowell, 65, of Hagerstown, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.

Born on July 31, 1943, in Olney, he was the son of the late Dedrick William and Leonia Watson Mowell. He was a truck driver and a member of the OWLS Club. Mr. Mowell had a passion for collecting antique automobiles.

Surviving are four children, Freddie C. Mowell, II, Shane C. Welsh Mowell, Sherise Welsh Mowell and Steven Welsh Mowell; four grandchildren, and two sisters; and longtime partner, Diane Martin and her children Michael and Kiera.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick where a memorial service will begin at 3 p.m. with Rev. Lloyd Fuss officiating.

Interment will be private.

Mr. Clarence Washington Crum

Mr. Clarence Washington Crum, 93, of Monrovia, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2008, at Montgomery General Hospital, Olney, with his family at his side. He was the husband of Mrs. Evelyn Maxine Browning Crum, his wife of 68 years.

He was born Nov. 22, 1915 in Monrovia as the son of the late Albert William and Eva May Burke Crum. He attended New Market School and was the oldest living member of the Providence United Methodist Church, Kemptown.

Mr. Crum worked on the family farm in Monrovia as a child. Later, he changed trades from farming to carpentry. He worked for Betson Construction and was a carpenter for Forts Meade and Ritchie.

He began work in 1951 for the Department of the Navy at David Taylor Model Basin. This took him to shipyards across the country including Pearl Harbor. He retired in 1980 with 29 years of civilian service.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two children, Evelyn Diane Moxley and husband John Thomas of Monrovia, Clarence Wayne Crum and wife Sue Ellen of Monrovia; grandchildren, Michael Dwayne Moxley of Manchester, Anita Dawn Moxley of Germantown, Kelly Jolane Haynes of Frederick, Amy Odessa and Jessica Anne Crum, both of Monrovia; and by great-grandchildren, Michael D. Moxley Jr. of Ocean City.

Besides her parents, Mr. Crum was preceded in death by siblings, Fannie Loun, William F. and Joseph R. Crum, and Lilly Jane Ray.

There will not be calling at the funeral home. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to noon Friday, Dec. 26, at his church, Providence United Methodist Church, 3716 Kemptown Church Road, Monrovia. The funeral service will be at noon at the church. Rev. Franklin D. Bishop will officiate.

Interment will be in the churchyard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made the American Cancer Society, 1393, Suite 908, Eldersburg, MD 21784.

Arrangements are by Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, Damascus.

Mr. Clarence Leroy Singer

Clarence Leroy Singer, 104, of Union Bridge, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008 at Carroll Hospice Dove House, Westminster. Born July 17, 1904 in Frederick County, he was the son of the late Guy and May Elizabeth Bohn Singer. He was the husband of Beryl Fleming Singer, who predeceased him in October 1973.

Mr. Singer was formerly employed with Lehigh Portland Cement Company, Union Bridge, as an engineer, retiring in 1969. He was dedicated to his family and always enjoyed being with them. His interests were horses, trains, cars and he found pleasure in eating home-cooked food.

Surviving are granddaughters, Diane Kaufmann and husband, John of Pittsburgh, Suzanne Stultz and husband, Richard of Union Bridge, Roxanne Beaver and husband Mike of Westminster; eight great-grandchildren, Katie Shih and Kathy Kaufmann; David, Jason, Adam and Evan Stultz; Alicia and Allison Beaver; and a very special great-great-granddaughter, Mia Bynion Stultz. He was predeceased by son, David Lavan Singer in 1963; daughter-in-law, Hilda Wetnight Singer in 1968; sisters, Evelyn Houck and Amy Singer; and a brother, Marshall Singer.

A funeral service will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 27, at Hartzler Funeral Home 6 E. Broadway, Union Bridge. Rev. David Bare, hospice chaplain, will officiate.

Interment will be in Lakeview Memorial Park, Eldersburg.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Carroll Hospice Dove House, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD 21157.
