Mr. Ernest Nasher
Mr. Ernest "Erni" Nasher, 101, of Frederick, died Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 28, 2009, at the Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center, Frederick.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, from the Beth Sholom Community Center, 1011 N. Market St., Frederick.
Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.
Mrs. Marie Burke
Mrs. Marie J. Burke, 89, of Silver Spring, passed away Friday, Jan. 23, at the Washington County Hospital Center, Hagerstown. She was the wife of her beloved husband William R. Burke, whom died in 2001.
Born in Lewistown, Mont., she was the daughter of the late Viggo and Ida Sigvardt, who had emigrated from Denmark and settled as homesteaders on the plains of Eastern Montana. The family later moved to Great Falls, Mont., where she was raised with her four brothers, Victor, Charles, Donald and Bruce.
Marie graduated from Great Falls High School in 1937. She came to Washington from Great Falls, Mont., in 1940. She worked as a secretary in the war department during World War II. During this time, Marie met and married
William R. Burke. They remained lifelong residents of the D.C. Metropolitan area.
Marie was active in the Our Savior Episcopal Church in Hillandale. She was a member of the Washington Cathedral Choral Society and sang in their choir at the National Cathedral for many years. In 1975, she earned an Associate of Arts degree from Montgomery College. Marie was an accomplished artist and painter.
Surviving are her children, Michael R. Warner-Burke of Columbia and James L. Burke of Frederick; her grandchildren, Joshua Warner-Burke, Katie M. Burke and Patrick C. Burke; and a brother, Bruce Sigvardt of Salt Lake City, Utah. Many nieces and nephews, all who have been privileged to know and love her, also survive.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial gathering for Marie from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at the Robert E. Dailey and Son Funeral Homes, P.A., 1201 N. Market St., Frederick. A short memorial service will follow at 1 p.m.

Mr. James Potter
Mr. James Lynn Potter, 73, of New Market, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Phyllis "Jean" Scalf Potter, his wife of 47 years.
Born March 23, 1935, in War, W.Va., he was the son of the late Manasseh J. and Anna Sparks Potter. He was a communications analyst at Fort Meade, retiring in 1991 after 38 years service. Mr. Potter served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Jim was a member of the Christ Memorial Presbyterian Church in Columbia where he served in many capacities including maintaining the church grounds, being assistant treasurer and was a church elder. He enjoyed fishing and gardening, but most of all loved spending time with his family and friends.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Derek Lynn Potter of New Market and Wendell G. Potter and friend, Layla Maldonado, of Columbia; two grandchildren, Marina Lynne Potter of New Market and Jesse B. Potter of Columbia; five brothers and sisters, Ida P. Preece of Chapel Hill, N.C., Priscilla S. Donaldson and husband, John, of Sunset Beach, N.C., Jerry L. Potter and wife, Marie, of Lady Lake, Fla., Curtis W. Potter of Wallingford, Conn., and Helen G. Davis and husband, Phil, of Lavalette, W.Va.
Mr. Potter was preceded in death by his step-mother, Bessie H. Potter, and siblings John D. Potter, L.C. Potter, Wendell R. Potter, William G. Potter and Doris J. Cartwright.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mount Airy. A memorial service will begin at 5 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Robert I. Long III will officiate.
A private interment will take place at Crownsville Veterans cemetery at a later date.

Mr. Gary Moore
Mr. Gary L. Moore, Commander, U.S. Navy, Ret., 72, of Frederick, highly decorated naval aviator, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Margaret B. Moore, his wife of 61Ú2 years.
Born March 14, 1936, in Crescent, Calif., he was the son of the late Lorin A. and Rachel Bosch Moore. Gary graduated from the University of California in 1959 with a bachelor of arts in mathematics. In April of 1959, he joined the Navy Aviation Officers Candidate Program, was commissioned as ensign in August 1959, and designated a naval aviator in February 1961, and was deployed with the USS Midway. He later served as an instructor pilot in Attack Squadron 125 and next was assigned to the USAF Aerospace Research Pilot School at Edwards AFB in California, graduating in 1965, having flown most of the USAF century series fighter aircraft. During the Vietnam War, Gary was assigned to the USS Kitty Hawk and later the USS Independence. In 1977 he was named executive officer of Fighter Squadron 41. During his naval career, which spanned from 1959 to 1982, he was awarded five Air Medals and the Navy Commendation Medal; other awards include Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation, Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, and Expert Pistol Shot Medal. Gary enjoyed gardening, woodworking, cooking, reading, classical music and loved solving math problems.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Kimberly Reavis and husband, Randy; four grandchildren, Sara Sparr, Allysa, Dereck and Megan Moore, all of Colorado; two great-grandchildren, Sutton and Ella; three brothers, Ronald, Richard and Kenneth Moore; a sister, Patricia Powell; a stepson, John Parker and wife, Darlene, of Felton, Del.; a stepdaughter, Martha Cossey and husband, Mark, of Merrimack, N.H.; step-grandchildren, Zack, Faith and Cara Parker, and Will and Jordan Cossey. Mr. Moore was preceded in death by a son, Erick Moore.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, where a memorial service will begin at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Barbara Daniel of Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ, Frederick, officiating.
Interment will occur at a later date.

Mr. Ernest "Erni" Nasher
Mr. Ernest "Erni" Nasher, 101, of Frederick, died Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 28, 2009, at the Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center, Frederick.
Twice married
, he was preceded in death by his wife, Belle Linzner Nasher, Aug. 7, 1966, and by his second wife, Eva S. Nasher, Sept. 11, 2005.
Born Nov. 11, 1907, in Karvin, Austria, he was the son of the late Wilhelm and Fannie Weisner Nasher. Mr. Nasher grew up in Tuckahoe, N.Y., and graduated from New Rochelle, N.Y. High School and later from the Columbia University School of Architecture.
Following his graduation from Columbia, he was unable to find work due to the depression and his being Jewish, so he took a job working in the night club business, where he worked on Broadway at the Candle Light Room. He later changed careers for a few years and began working with Winkleman Shoes, Philadelphia, where he met his future wife, Belle.
They moved to Frederick in 1938, where he worked with Earl's Dress Shop, until opening his own shop, the Outlet Store, in 1950.
In 1955, Erni brought pizza to Frederick, when he converted the Outlet Store into the Pizza Shop at 43 E. Patrick St. and later located it for a short time at 120 W. Patrick St. In 1964, he opened Erni's Italian Kitchen on Rosemont Avenue, which he operated until its closing in February 1996, when he was 88 years old.
Mr. Nasher was a lifelong member of Beth Sholom Congregation, Frederick, as well as the oldest living and longest member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, 684, Frederick, and a member of the Frederick Kiwanis Club, since 1965, with perfect attendance. In earlier years, he was associated with the I.O.O.F., Hebron Lodge 229, where he rose to the chair of Noble Grand.
He was a member and past president of the Mid-Maryland Restaurant Association and the Frederick County Beverage Association.
In earlier years, Mr. Nasher was an ardent golfer and member of the Catoctin Country Club, and also enjoyed stamp and coin collecting for many years.
He will also be remembered for his keen wit and ability to always share a new joke with friends, family and his many loyal patrons over the years.
He is survived by two daughters, Jacqueline Lipton, of Dallas, Texas, and Rosalind Nasher, of Frederick; one step-daughter, Arlene Falke and husband, Burt, of Baltimore; three step-grandchildren, Michael Lipton, Elizabeth Cook, and Steven Lipton; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family received friends Thursday, Jan. 29, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. today from the Beth Sholom Community Center, 1011 N. Market St., Frederick. Rabbi Morris A. Kosman will officiate. Interment will be in the Garden of Solomon, Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.

Mrs. Theresa Bohrer
Mrs. Theresa Neel Bohrer, 90, passed away peacefully Thursday, Jan. 28, 2009, at her home of 50 years, on Long Corner Road, Mount Airy, surrounded by her family.
Born in Boyds, Nov. 20, 1918, she was the daughter of Joseph Thomas and Laura Dorsey Neel.
She was married
for 57 years to the late Benjamin F. Bohrer who passed away Jan. 4, 2005.
She worked as a bookkeeper for John Delashmutt in Woodbine, leaving in 1950 to raise her daughters.
She was a devoted member of Howard Chapel-Ridgville United Methodist Church for 46 years. She was a member of the choir, the United Methodist Women and spent many happy hours volunteering for all church activities.
She also spent many years farming and gardening with her husband.
Her biggest joy in life was her family. She served dinner to as many as 16 after church every Sunday well into her 80s.
She is survived by two daughters, Patricia L. Schmidt and husband, Roland, of Mount Airy, and Pamela Bohrer Brown and husband, Bill, of Baltimore. She was the grandmother to Jim Thren and wife, Cathy, Michelle Easterday and husband, David, Stacey Murphy and husband, Mike, all of Mount Airy, and Nicolas Brown and Amanda Brown of Baltimore. She was the great-grandmother to Jimmy, Tyler, Jordan and Jacob Thren, Dustin and Tiffani Easterday, Brittany and Ashley Murphy, all of Mount Airy, and Kaden Brown of Baltimore.
She is also survived by her sister, Catherine Lorraine Neel of Mount Airy, and was predeceased by an infant brother.
She will be lovingly remembered by her faithful caregiver Debbie Ruppert.
She will also be remembered by neighbors, Bud and Betty Lanich; special friends, Kathleen Browning, Janice and Colin Rogers, and Delores Ulmer; neice, Sandra Heydemann; goddaughter, Kay Poole; and part-time caregiver, Megan Durbin.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 5 p.m., Sunday Feb. 1, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mount Airy. Funeral Services will be 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2, at the funeral home. The Rev. Laura Shultz will officiate. Interment will be in the Howard Chapel cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jim Thren, David Easterday, Mike Murphy, Nicolas Brown, Jimmy Thren, Tyler Thren, Dustin Easterday and Bud Lanich.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Howard Chapel-Ridgeville United Methodist Church.
Infant Kaylyn Rose Parks
Kaylyn Rose Parks, our beautiful little angel, was born Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, and went home to Jesus immediately. She touched many lives during the pregnancy and everyone was so excited to be getting a little girl; however we now -- and forever -- have a guardian angel.
Kaylyn Rose was the precious daughter of Keith and Kimberly Parks; and sister of Keith Jr. and Kole Parks. She was the granddaughter of Bob and Marie Parks and Pete and Mary Crown; and the great-granddaughter of Margaret Damiano and the late Thomas Damiano. She is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who will miss the joy we anticipated seeing after her arrival.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mount Airy.
Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Mrs. Wanda Beall
Mrs. Wanda Beall, of Walkersville, died Friday, Jan. 30, 2009.
She was the devoted wife of the late Henry Beall Jr. and beloved mother of six children, Ralph Beall, Robert Beall, Richard Beall, Rhonda Duncan, Robin Johnson and Toni Jerry. She is survived by her sisters, Linda Ball and Janice Smith and preceded in death by her brother, Ethan Lee. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and wonderful friends.
She has gone to be with the Lord for her eternal rest. She was loved deeply and will be missed greatly.
Family and friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, and from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, at Gasch's Funeral Home, P.A., 4739 Baltimore Ave., Hyattsville. The service will begin at 1 p.m., following the visitation.
Interment will be held at Fort Lincoln cemetery, Brentwood, following the service.
Mr. Robert Spates Sr.
Robert L. Spates Sr., 76, of Bonduel, Wis., died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident near his home.
He was a lifelong dairy farmer, an avid coon hunter, and outdoorsman. He was born and raised in Germantown by his parents, the late Alfred W. Spates and Helen Violet Spates.
He was predeceased by a sister, Jane Sieke of Jacksonville, Fla. and infant granddaughter of Wisconsin. He lived in Poolesville and later in Frederick County until 1976, when he moved his family to Bonduel, Wis. He had long dreams of owning a dairy farm in Wisconsin.
He is survived by eight children, Richard Spates of Wis., Barbara Ahalt of Clearspring, Bill Spates and wife Patti of Clearspring, Robert Spates Jr. of Wis., Clearance (Bud) Spates of Wis., Patty and husband Grant Christianson of Wis., Carol Kauffman and special friend Dan of Wis., and David Spates and wife Carrie of Wis. He is also survived by one brother, Eric Spates of Poolesville and one sister, Beatrice Spates de Lannoy of Belgium. He also leaves behind 20 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 2, at the Swedberg-Went Funeral Home, Bonduel, Wis.
Internment will be in the Union cemetery, Bonduel, Wis.
Mrs. Margaret Kemp Dill Noll
Mrs. Margaret V. Kemp Dill Noll, 87, of Martinsburg, W.Va., died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009, at Care Haven.
Born Feb. 3, 1921 in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late William Edward Kemp and Marcella Emma Wetzel Kemp.
She was a member of the Church of the Brethren.
She is survived by her husband, Bernard Vincent Noll; a son, Vincent Scott Dill of Williamsport; two step-sons, Mark S. Noll of Martinsburg, W.Va. and Matthew David Noll of Charles Town, W.Va.; and a step-daughter, Gina R. Noll of Martinsburg, W.Va.; six step-grandchildren and one step-great-great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Sarah L. King and Carrie Emma Young and a brother, Claude William Kemp.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 4, at the Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie Edmonds officiating.
Interment will be held at Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 3, at the funeral home.
