Mrs. Hilda Fox

Mrs. Hilda Irene "Beanie" Fox, 90, of Frederick, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, at Northampton Manor Health Care Center, Frederick, after an extended illness.

Born Feb. 4, 1919, in Frederick County, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Carrie May Long Bell. She was the wife of Charles Franklin Fox, who predeceased her in 2000.

Mrs. Fox was a member of Chapel Lutheran Church. She and her husband were dairy farmers in Frederick County, retiring in 1978. She was then the manager of the restaurant at Woodsboro Auction. She enjoyed baking for others, ceramics and needlework.

Surviving, are one sister, Myra Louise Brengle and husband, Earl A., of Missoula, Mont.; one brother, Webber Bell and wife, Mary, of Westminster; sister-in-law, Barbara A. Bell of Hagerstown; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Joy Musselman.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Teresa Embrey and Marguerite Smith; and one brother, George A. Bell.

A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at Chapel Lutheran Church, Daysville Road, Libertytown. Rev. Dorothy Lundgren, her pastor, will officiate.

Interment will be in Chapel cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 11802 Liberty Road, Libertytown.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of Chapel Lutheran, P.O. Box 131, Libertytown, MD 21762.

Mr. Robert Lillard

Mr. Robert Lynwood "Bob" Lillard, 87, of Thurmont, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, at the College View Center, Frederick. He was the husband of Lela Whillhide Lillard. They married June 4, 1949. Born Feb. 28, 1921, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late William H. and Olive Virginia Campbell Lillard.

As a young man, he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hagerstown. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a sergeant first class in the infantry. He served in the Philippines and the Asiatic Pacific Theater, where he was awarded the Bronze Star.

Mr. Lillard was the general foreman of the machine shop at Fairchild Air Craft Industries in Hagerstown. Following marriage, he moved to Thurmont and joined Trinity United Church of Christ, where he sang in the church choir, taught Sunday school for many years and served as president of the Consistory.

Mr. Lillard was the president of the Thurmont Elementary School PTA. He also was a member of the Thurmont Senior Citizens; Guardian Hose Co. #10; and was a former secretary of the Thurmont Ambulance Company. Part-time, for 50 years, he enjoyed growing apples and cherries.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are two sons, Ross Edward Lillard and his wife, Lynda, of Thurmont, and Richard Byron Lillard and his wife, Betsey, of Clear Spring; four grandchildren, Ben Lillard, Bethany Lillard, Kristina Ullrich and Alex Ullrich; three sisters, Mrs. Marie C. Brinton, Mrs. A. Jeanette Shupp and Mrs. Betty Martin and her husband J.W., all of Hagerstown; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, at Robert E. Dailey and Son Funeral Home, P.A., 615 E. Main St., Thurmont.

A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. His pastor, Rev. Les Sims will officiate.

Inurnment will follow in Blue Ridge cemetery, Thurmont.

The family requests memorials be made in memory of Mr. Lillard to Trinity UCC, 101 E. Main St., Thurmont, MD 21788.

Mrs. Geraldine Waters

Geraldine Emma Waters died peacefully Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009, at Southern Maryland Hospital Center in Clinton.

She was the beloved wife of the late James H. "Barney" Waters, who predeceased her in 2001.

She was also the devoted and loving mother to foster daughter, Rita N. Moore; and daughter of the late Prof. John W. Bruner and Mrs. Jeannette C. Offitt Bruner. Geraldine was one of six children and her 102-year-old sister, Mildred Bowins of Baltimore survives. She was predeceased by Kermit Bruner Sr., Drexall Harris, Marguerite Cain and her twin sister, Gladys Bryan.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at Snowden Funeral Home, P.A., 246 N. Washington St., Rockville and from 10 a.m. until funeral services at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 13.

Interment will follow at Wayman AME Church, 10112 Old Liberty Road, Frederick, MD 21705.

Mrs. H. Irene Fox

Mrs. Lillian Nickens

Lillian Corrine Nickens, 76, was called into eternal rest, Friday, Feb. 6, 2009. She was born May 7, 1932 to the late Roberta and Sterling Holland. She was the wife of the late Clarence Joseph Nickens Sr., and lived in the care of her oldest daughter in Walkersville until God called her home.

Lillian was a great homemaker and friend to many. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and baking for the entire neighborhood, and devoting time to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. After retiring from the healthcare industry, Lillian loved to bowl and travel with her daughter, and talking on the telephone with family and friends. She was a committed and active member of First Missionary Baptist Church.

Lillian is survived by four children, David Nickens and wife Janine of Daltona, Fla., Clarence Nickens Jr., of Frederick, Kathy Ford and husband Thomas of Walkersville, and Wendi Jackson of Frederick. She also leaves eight grandchildren, Tyra Seiver, Thomas Ford, Alexis Ford, Nyatiah Nickens, Clarence Nickens III, Whittley Jackson, Monteya Nickens, and Christen Nickens; 10 great-grandchildren, Jordan Seiver, Jasmine Seiver, Cameron Ford, Tevin Nickens, Joseph Klascik, John Klascik, Jayden Nickens, Xavier Nickens, Brandon Porche, Cordell Jackson; a brother, Clarence Allen of Frederick; brother-in-law, Lord Nickens and wife Thelma; sister-in-law, Iona Hill; a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Lillian is also remembered by her devoted friend, Sarah Fossett of New Market and her niece, Emilie Angelety. She was preceded in death by her son, Donald Nickens.

The family would like to acknowledge Geoff Littrell, a registered nurse of Hospice, and give special thanks to the staff of Hospice of Frederick, as well as members of First Missionary Baptist Church for their support, love and outreach while caring for Lillian.

Final respects of visitation can be given to Lillian from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at First Missionary Baptist Church, 899 Swallowtail Drive, Frederick. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. The home going service will be held starting at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, at First Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Dr. William H. Graham will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions to Hospice of Frederick.

Arrangements are by Gary Rollins Funeral Services, 110 W. South St., Frederick.

Mr. George Daigneault

Mr. George A. Daigneault, 80, of Thurmont, departed to heaven peacefully surrounded by his loving wife and family on Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009, at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Marilyn Eichwurtzle Daigneault for 43 years.

Born in Jackmon Station, Maine, he was the son of the late Rhea (St. Jacques) and Joseph A. Daigneault. After retiring honorably from the United States Marine Corps, George went on to work for Motorola where he served as a FCC liaison for 25 years. A very hardworking individual and great provider for his family, George next started his own business, Daigneault Communications, where he retired after 18 years of leadership.

Completely devoted to his loving wife Marilyn, George will be remembered for his extraordinary gift of laughter, enthusiasm for life and love for his family and friends.

George is survived by his wife Marilyn and together they survived their nine children, Rachelle Daigneault and husband Gary Lockhart of Snow Hill, Michael Daigneault and wife Eileen of Germantown, Beverly Cuhna and husband Ricardo of Silver Spring, Mark Stephenson and wife Terri of Athens, Ga., Douglas Stephenson of Westover, Ruth Lantz of Charles Town, W.Va., Susan Riggs and husband John of Jefferson, Joseph Daigneault and wife Cassandra of Strongsville, Ohio, and David Daigneault and wife Amandia of Manassas, Va.; George was the very proud grandfather of 15 grandchildren, Kelly, Jacqueline, Peter, Jessica, Jennifer, Daniel, Joel, Katie, Luke, Micah, Noah, Brady, Shawn, Carson and Melissa; and one great-grandchild, Sophia.

The family will receive friends for a celebration of his life from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. Funeral services will begin at 3 p.m.

A private burial will take place at the Arlington National cemetery in April where George will be laid to rest with full military honors.

Mrs. Brenda Moxley

Brenda G. Moxley, 63, of Spring Grove, Pa. and formerly of Thurmont, passed away Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, at her home with her family at her side.

Born Aug. 28, 1945, in Montgomery County, she was a daughter of the late Maurice O. and Rosalie (Liller) Johnson.

Surviving is her son, Leon C. Moxley Jr. and his wife, Ann, of Spring Grove, Pa.; two sisters, Ruth Rose of Burkittsville and Billye English of Red Lion, Pa.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Brenda was preceded in death by two brothers, Maurice "Junior" Johnson and Arnold Johnson.

There will be no viewing; services will be private.

Contributions may be made in Brenda's memory to Asera Care Hospice, 44 Bowman Road, York, PA 17408.

Arrangements are by Wetzel Funeral Home, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover.

Mrs. Dorothy Schmitt Mitlehner

Dorothy Anne Schmitt Mitlehner, 69, of Frederick, passed away Friday, Feb. 6, 2009. She was the devoted wife of the late Carl H. Mitlehner. They were married for 49 years.

She was born Oct. 20, 1939, in Hempstead, N.Y., and was the daughter of the late Margaret (Reddoch) and Paul Schmitt.

She attended Harpur College in Binghamton, N.Y., where she met her future husband. The family moved to Farmingdale, N.Y. in 1961, and to Frederick in 1969. After raising four children, she earned her associate's degree from Frederick Community College in 1978.

Following her retirement as business manager from HomeCall, she took up cross-stitch and became a talented and proficient artist. In addition to her needlework she enjoyed logic puzzles, golf at the V.F.W., and genealogy.

Dorothy is survived by her four children, Trudi Capotosto and husband, Tom, of Austin, Texas, Elise Weston-Dawkes and husband, Andrew, of Potomac, Krista Girard and husband, David, of Frederick and Carl A. Mitlehner and wife, Denise, of Ashburn, Va.; 10 grandchildren, Matthew, Jill and Dana Capotosto, Michael, William and Matthew Weston-Dawkes, Cullen and Erika Girard, Nicole and Katherine Mitlehner. She is also survived by two brothers, Richard Schmitt and wife, Renette, and Paul Schmitt and wife, Rene, all of Florida.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Bechtold.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. Visitation will begin one hour prior to service.

Interment will be private.

Ms. Raylene Dotson

Raylene Dotson, 49, of Frederick, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009, at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore. She was the seven-year companion of Joseph Eyler, with whom she resided.

Born July 28, 1959, in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late John Albert Sr. and Anna Mae Myers Dotson. She was a general nursing assistant working for Buckinghams' Choice in Adamstown for the past five years. She enjoyed music which included singing and dancing; as well as playing cards and board games, loved to shop, travel and attend tea parties; but her true calling was tending and helping the sick and the elderly.

Surviving in addition to her companion Joe, are six brothers and sisters, Dorothy Myers of Frederick, Mary DeLauter and husband, Charles Jr., of Frederick, Ella Washington and husband, Worthington, of Eldersburg, Ann Jackson and husband, Linwood Sr., of Silver Spring, Bonnie Moore and husband, John, of Mount Airy and Joseph Dotson and wife, Lynette, of Frederick; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Dotson of Frederick; her special companions, her Chow, Tara and Pembroke Welch Corgi, Teddy Longstockings Bartholmy; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Raylene was preceded in death by a brother, John A. Dotson Jr. and a niece, Mekia Hammond.

The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mount Airy. A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Elza Hurst of Lewistown United Methodist Church will officiate.

Interment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

Mr. Joseph Leatherman

Joseph E. Leatherman, 47, of Carlisle, Pa., died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009, at his home.

He was born March 31, 1961, in Waynesboro, Pa. and was the son of William E. and Anna Mae Willard Leatherman of Myersville.

Joseph was a 1979 graduate of Heritage Academy, Hagerstown and was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Temple, Hagerstown. He was associated with Custom Siding of Frederick for many years prior to his illness.

In addition to his parents he is survived by his son, Anthony of Aiken, S.C.; one sister, Ellen M. Allen of Hagerstown; four brothers, David Leatherman of Hanover, Pa., Nathan Leatherman of Frederick, Evan Leatherman and Kevin Leatherman both of Myersville; three nieces and four nephews.

He was a wonderful son and brother, uncle and cousin and will be sadly missed by all of his family.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 12, at Grossnickle Church of the Brethren, MD-17 N and Meeting House Road, Myersville. Pastor Larry Aiken of Emmanuel Baptist Temple will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 2 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Temple Building fund, 16221 National Pike, Hagerstown, MD 21740.

Arrangements are by Ricketts Funeral Home, Myersville.
