Mr. Franklin Schumacher

Franklin J. "Schuey" Schumacher, 82, of 100 7th St. Youngsville, Pa., died Saturday, March 14, 2009, at Warren Manor. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on May 20, 1926, the son of the late Frank J. and Alma (Kopitkee) Schumacher.

Frank graduated in 1944 from Harvey High School in Painesville, Ohio, and was a 195 graduate of Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. He served in the U.S. Army in WW II. He was employed for 40 years in banking. Frank began his banking career with Youngsville National and retired from Integra Bank in Warren. He served as president of the Warren County Chamber of Commerce and as president of the Board of Directors of Warren General Hospital, was treasurer of Warren County Crimestoppers and a member of the Board of Directors at Superior Tire. He attended St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church in Youngsville where he served as an usher.----

He was the husband of Ann (Fill) Schumacher whom he married April 24, 1971, in Youngsville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons: Gregory (Jill) J. Schumacher of Frederick, Md., Mark (Cindy) A. Schumacher of Middletown, Md., Gary (Tina) D. Schumacher of Petersburg, Va., and Alec (Mary) T. Schumacher of Myersville, Md.; eight grandchildren: Mark, Katie, Matt, Courtney, Adam, Melissa, Allison and Tim, and two great-grandchildren, Brett and Caleb. In addition to his parents, he was preceded: in death by a sister, Mercedes Schumacher.

Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., today at McKinney Funeral Homes and Cremation Services Inc., 54 W. Main St., Youngsville, Pa. A vigil prayer service will be held at 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Lukes Roman Catholic Church, Youngsville, at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, with the Rev. Father John Neff officiating.

Graveside services will be held at Youngsville cemetery following the mass where full military honors will be held. Those wishing to place a memorial may do so to St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church, North Main Street, Youngsville.

Mr. Charles Christian Sr.

Mr. Charles Thomas Leroy Christian Sr., "Bubbles," 65, of Ijamsville, died Sunday, March 15, 2009, at Kline Hospice House in Mount Airy. He was the loving husband of Christie L. Christian.

Born Dec. 7, 1943, in Hagerstown, Md., he was a son of the late John Calvin and Loma Grace Butler Christian.

Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, Charleen and Cheyenne Christian both of Ijamsville; a stepson, Eddie Grove of Maryland; a son, Charles T.L. Christian Jr. of Gambrills; a daughter, Tina Christian of Hagerstown; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a lifelong friend and brother, Deacon James Smith of Chambersburg, Pa.; a sister, D. Lorraine McDaniels of Hagerstown; an aunt, Delores Jenkins of Hagerstown; and four nephews.

Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, March 17, at Molesworth-Williams P.A. Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 18, at the funeral home. The Rev. Franklin D. Bishop of Ijamsville United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will follow in Ijamsville Methodist cemetery.

The family request that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus, MD 20872 to help defray funeral costs.

Commander Jacques LaPerche

Commander Jacques Benonie "Ben" LaPerche, 85, of Thurmont, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 14, 2009, at his residence.

He was born Dec. 7, 1923, in Pawtucket, R.I., and was the son of the late Benonie LaPerche and Marie Brindamoor.

He was retired from the U.S. Navy, a veteran of 22 years naval service. He served overseas in the Solomon's Campaign in 1942-1943 as an enlisted man. During World War II, he was selected in 1944 for naval flight training and completed his training in 1946. He was commissioned as Ensign upon completion of his training and served in aviation organizations until 1950, when he was transferred to general line duties.

He saw action during the Korean Action serving on a heavy cruiser. After the Korean Conflict, and until his retirement in 1963, he served on several destroyers and destroyer escorts. His last sea duty was as command of a radar picket destroyer. At the time of his retirement, he was serving in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations in Washington, D.C. Since his retirement, he was employed by the Vitro Corp. for several years and most recently owned and operated the "Foothills Antique Shoppe" in Urbana.

He was a member of the Silver Eagles Assoc., Washington, D.C. Wing, Retired Officers Assoc., V.F.W. Post in Thurmont and the American Legion Post in Emmitsburg, Pa.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Virginia, formally of San Francisco, Calif.; daughter, Jeanne Reid, of California; daughter, Linda Adams and husband, Harold, of Maryland; daughter, Patricia Reidy and husband, William, of Illinois; granddaughter, Andrea Crabb and husband, Steven, of Florida; grandson, Thomas Adams and wife, Mary, of Maryland; grandson, Douglas Reidy and wife, Anna of Illinois; and six great-grandchildren, Declan, Morgan and Jackson Adams, Grayson Crabb, and Cailin and Connor Reidy. He is survived by two sisters, Irene Demchak of Connecticut and Lucille Bragg of Rhode Island.

Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main St., Thurmont. A funeral mass will be offered at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 103 N. Church St., Thurmont.

Interment will be held at a future date at Arlington National cemetery, Arlington, Va.

Mrs. Mable Moxley

Mable Marie Moxley, 81, of Frederick, died Saturday, March 14, 2009, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late George B. Moxley Sr., who died Aug. 30, 1998.

Born Oct. 24, 1927, in Dickerson. She was the daughter of the late Paul and Catherine Taylor Stream.

Mrs. Moxley was a lifelong resident of Frederick, a long-time member of the Calvary Assembly of God of Walkersville, a loving Christian mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. she additionally was a breast cancer survivor.

Mrs. Moxley was survived by her son, George B. Moxley Jr. and wife, Pat, of Waynesboro, Pa.; daughter, Marie M. Naugle and husband, Larry, of Frederick; daughter, Mary Ann Brooks and husband, Charles, of Frederick; grandson, Donald W. Minnick and wife, Karen, of Frederick; great-grandchildren, Danielle and Zane; and great-great-grandson, Ethan. She was additionally survived by her brothers, Lee, John and George Stream; and her sisters, Elizabeth Baugher and Evelyn Burton.

Mrs. Moxley was preceded in death by a son, David Samuel Moxley.

Visitation with family will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, and Wednesday, March 18, at Keeney and Basford, P.A., Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 19, at Calvary Assembly of God of Walkersville. Rev. John Kenney will officiate. Interment will be at the Monocacy cemetery, Beallsville.

Mrs. Lorraine Lawson

Mrs. Lorraine R. Lawson, 91, of Charles Town, W.Va., passed away Monday, March 16, 2009, at Canterbury Center in Shepherdstown, W.Va. She was the widow of Alfred S. Lawson, who passed away in 2001.

Born March 2, 1918, in Russell County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Robert and Rachel Inscore.

She is survived by four children, Katherine Yvonne Taylor, A. Eugene Lawson, Charles D. Lawson, and Dale W. Lawson; a sister, Katherine Strouth; eight grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Buford Lawson; sisters, Frances Ferguson, Myrtle Lowe, Lucy Bolton, and Nora Meadows; brothers, Bradley and George Inscore; two grandsons, Brian Eugene Lawson and Joey Taylor, and a granddaughter, Patricia E. Taylor.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 19, and from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, March 20, at Chapel Mausoleum of Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 I-15 N., Frederick, where funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. Friday.

Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Flowers are welcome, or donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Arrangements are by Resthaven Funeral Services, Skkot Cody, P.A., Frederick.

Ms. Clara Bricker

Clara L. Bricker, 90, peacefully departed this life on Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at her residence.

Born in Taneytown, July 20, 1918, she was the daughter of the late William F. and Bernice R. Bricker. She was predeceased by her older brother John, who died in 1987.

She was a graduate of Taneytown High School and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Western Maryland College in 1939. Soon thereafter, she began her career as a teacher with the Prince George's County Public Schools. She taught typing, shorthand and office skills at Hyattsville High and then at Northwestern High School in Hyattsville for several decades, after which she moved into administration.

During her working years, she was a member of several professional organizations, including Business and Professional Women. She was an avid duckpin bowler and bowled in a league for many years. She also traveled widely.

Upon her retirement, she returned to Taneytown and the house in which she grew up. She was a member of a local bridge circle and the Republican Women's Club for many years as well as a life member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her nephew, John Samuel Bricker Jr. and his wife, Carol, of Smithsburg; as well as her great-niece, Kelly Ann Bricker of Berlin; and great-nephew, Kevin Andrew Bricker of Smithsburg.

To them, she will always be their beloved "Auntie Ou," the person to whom family meant everything and who was always there for them no matter what. The Bricker family is what it is today due, in large part, to her love and support. Words haven't been created to express their gratitude, or their sorrow at her passing.

Clara is also remembered by her longtime neighbor, Howard Welty; and former co-worker and dear friend, Kathleen Rehanek of Alachua, Fla.

There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 21, in the chapel of Trinity Lutheran Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church at 38 W. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD 21787 or to the charity of one's choice.

Arrangements are by Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, Laytonsville.

Mrs. Hazel Gibson

Mrs. Hazel M. Gibson, 69, of Frederick, died Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

She is survived by her children, Gloria Sullivan and husband, John, of Ashburn, Va., John Gibson, Randy Gibson and wife, Betty, of Frederick, and Dawn Combs and husband, Donald, of Ashburn, Va. She was a beloved sister and grandmother.

Mrs. Gibson was also preceded in death by son, Michael Gibson.

The family will receive friends and family from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 20, at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 U.S. 15 N., Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 21, also at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.

Arrangements are by Resthaven Funeral Services, Skkot Cody, P.A., Frederick.

Mrs. Mary Gibbons

Mrs. Mary Louise Gibbons, 80, of Monrovia, died Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Born March 6, 1929, in Frederick, she was a daughter of the late Harry McCurdy Sr. and Sadie Strubie Bell.

Mary was a retired school bus driver for Montgomery County Public School System.

She is survived by one brother and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Pauline Dasher and Lollite Beckner; and three brothers, Richard Bell, Walter Bell and Thomas Bell.

Funeral services and interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society, Frederick County Region, 1393 Progress Way, Suite 908, Eldersburg, MD 21784.

Arrangements are by Molesworth-Williams, P.A., Funeral Home, Damascus.

Mrs. Catherine Nicoludis Flizanes

Mrs. Catherine Nicoludis Flizanes, 78, of Mount Airy, went to join her heavenly Father and family Tuesday, March 17, 2009. She was born Oct. 15, 1930, in Mc-Keesport, Pa., to the late Michael Nicoludis and Anna Katsarelis Nicoludis. She was married May 16, 1954.

She had been a member of the Annunciation Church in White Oak, Pa., prior to her move to Maryland in 1974. Catherine was the last of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by sisters, Marina, Evangeline (Angie), and Despina (Florence); and brothers, John, Nicodemus and Daedalus (Ted).

Surviving are her beloved and devoted husband of 54 years, James G. Flizanes; daughters, Anna Gue, of Frederick, and Connie Zaruba (William), of Mount Airy; grandsons, James Gue III, of Biglerville, Pa., Lucas Gue (Donna), of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Michael and Nicodemus Zaruba, of Mount Airy; great-granddaughters, Katelyn Gue of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Raelyn Gue of Biglerville, Pa.; godson, Nick Hanzivasilis of Eighty-Four, Pa., sisters-in-law, E. Virginia Nicoludis of Pa., and Nan Nicoludis of Calif.; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and great-nieces and nephews.

Catherine was a member of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation, Baltimore. She was one of the primary advocates for the founding of Saints Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, Frederick, where she was proclaimed "Mother of the Church" June 2, 1991. She lived her faith to the fullest.

Catherine's love of children led her to baby-sit for many years after moving to Maryland. During the 1980s, she and James were avid square dancers. She was a 20-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 191, Mount Airy. Catherine loved Greek cooking, gardening and working with arts and crafts. In later years her favorite pastimes were reading and watching the birds from her kitchen window. Her last few months were enjoyed at the Mount Airy Senior Center where she joined friends for lunch, movies and bingo. She was a devoted daughter who took care of her own mother throughout her early married years. She always showed the utmost concern and empathy for others. Catherine's true happiness was, "When my girls are happy, I am happy."

Catherine was a 35-year cancer survivor and courageously endured the numerous health issues she faced during the past 12 years. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Doctors Hope McIntyre, John Vitarello, James Grissom, Brian O'Connor, William Miller and Camillo Toro and the staff at Washington Hospital Center's Coronary Intensive Care Unit for the loving care she received.

Funeral services will be held at noon Monday, March 23, at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation, 24 W. Preston St., Baltimore. The family will recieve friends from 11 a.m. until time of service at the church. Interment will take place in McKeesport, Pa.

In remembrance of Catherine Flizanes, those who wish may make contributions to the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation, 24 W. Preston St., Baltimore, MD 21201; the Annunciation Church, Summit, Arthur, and Amherst Streets, White Oak, PA 15131; the American Heart Association; or the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are by Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., Mount Airy.

Mr. Bernard Lerner

Mr. Bernard Lerner, 85, of Silver Spring, died Monday, March 16, 2009, at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Anita Greenberg Lerner, his wife of 61 years.

Born Aug. 22, 1923, in Bronx, N.Y., he was the son of the late Abraham and Jennie Progger Lerner.

He was a sales/driver for Ottenberg's Bakery in Washington.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Jeanne Fulk and husband, Ronnie, of Frederick, and Linda Lerner of Silver Spring; two grandchildren, Tracey Cannon and husband, Dave, and Danny Deavers Jr. and wife, Tara; two stepgrandchildren, Ron Fulk and wife, Hydie, and Crystal Jamison and husband, Michael; four great-grandchildren, Maxwell Cannon, Mattingly Cannon, Delilah Deavers and Daisy Deavers; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Dominic Fulk and Jacob Jamison; one niece, two nephews and cousins. He will be remembered by Danny Deavers Sr. He was preceded in death by his brother, David Lerner.

Graveside services were held Thursday, March 19, at King David Memorial Gardens, Falls Church, Va.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to National Alliance on Mental Health, 804 Landmark Drive, Suite 122, Glen Burnie, MD 21061-4486.

Arrangements are by Stauffer Funeral Home, Frederick.
