Ms. Joyce May Lyles

Born in Baltimore in 1933, Joyce May Lyles was the daughter of the late Dr. George Joseph and May Wolfe Snowball of Frederick.

A Morgan State alumna, Joyce first worked as a substitute elementary school teacher in Baltimore before permanently joining Nationwide Insurance Company, where she was employed as an underwriter until her retirement in 1995.

While working at the Nationwide offices in New York State she also enjoyed league bowling and fishing. When transferred to the Nationwide Annapolis, Md., office, she loved her seafood, watching sports and even dabbled in golf.

Upon her retirement to Frederick, she was a member of the South End Coalition, working for the betterment of her hometown neighborhood that she loved.

Joyce was predeceased by her son, Byron Terrance Dixon; and is survived by her daughters, Sonya Lyles of Frederick and Yolanda Lyles of Washington.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, March 30, at Gary L. Rollins Funeral Home, 110 W. South St., Frederick, with funeral services immediately following.

Interment will be in Fairview cemetery.

Mrs. Charlotte M. Weddle

Mrs. Charlotte M. Weddle, 86, of Jefferson, died Thursday, March 26, 2009, at the Kline Hospice House in Mount Airy. She was the wife of the late Charles L. Weddle Sr.

She was born in Ijamsville on Jan. 16, 1923.

Mrs. Weddle worked at the former American Optical Company, retiring after 27 years of service. She enjoyed in her later years her daily rides with her son, Ron, daughter, Jill, and granddaughter, Cheryl. She loved watching "Little House on the Prairie," "Walker Texas Ranger" and "Touched by an Angel."

Survivors are her son, Ronald E. Weddle, whom she lived with, of Jefferson; and a daughter, Jill D. Eyler and her husband, Westley C., of Clifton Heights, Pa.; one grandson; four granddaughters, including a devoted granddaughter, Cheryl; and 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are numerous nephews, nieces and cousins, and her longtime friends, Amanda Sanger and Elsie Flynn of Jefferson.

Mrs. Weddle was preceded in death by a son, Charles L. "Lenny" Weddle Jr.; and seven brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 29, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, in the funeral home chapel. Pastor Joe Ivey will officiate. Interment will follow in Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

Mrs. Martha Heck

Mrs. Martha Hauver Heck, 64, of Smithsburg, died Friday, March 27, 2009, at her residence.

Born May 12, 1944 in Foxville, she was the daughter of the late George and Evellyn N. Ridenour Hauver Sr.

Mrs. Heck was a member of Mt. Moriah Lutheran Church and a former member of the Dorcas Society of the Church. In her early years, she enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and she worked on the Fire Tower.

Surviving is a son, Herman Grayson Heck and his significant other; a daughter, Maria Hauver Heck and her significant, other all of Foxville; and a sister, Roberta Hauver of Washington, D.C. A nephew and many cousins also survive. She was preceded in death by a brother, George Hauver Jr.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 31, at Mt. Moriah Lutheran Church, Foxville Church Road, Foxville; her pastor, Rev. Julie Brigham, and Rev. David Andrews will co-officiate.

Interment will be in Mt. Moriah cemetery, Foxville.

There will be no visiting or calling at Robert E. Dailey and Son Funeral Homes, P.A., 615 E. Main St., Thurmont.

The family requests that memorials be made in memory of Mrs. Heck to the American Cancer Society, 1393 Progress Way, Suite 908, Eldersburg, MD 21784.

Mr. Robert Graziul

Robert Graziul, 52, died Friday, March 27, 2009, at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. He was the son of Marie Ann (Frenak) Graziul and Edward Francis Graziul, both of New Freedom, Pa.

He is survived by a son, Christopher Michael; a wonderful wife, Rebecca Cunard; and a great ex-wife, Martine Uveges; as well as two brothers, Edward and Richard.

Robert played 13 musical instruments and attended Penn State University as a music major before his car was struck from behind at an intersection by a drunken 16-year-old female driver. It took two years for Robert to learn how to walk and talk again.

He lost coordination in both his hands.

But he was eventually able to type well enough to win awards as both a journalist and columnist and then as a front page designer for a major daily newspaper in Connecticut.

He had a good sense of humor, he worked hard, and he was a decent guy.

A funeral liturgy will be held for Robert at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 1, from St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church (new), 315 N. Constitution Ave., New Freedom, Pa. Burial is in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Mrs. Agnes Watkins

Mrs. Agnes Virginia Schaeffer Watkins, 90, formerly of Cedar Grove, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2009, at Montgomery General Hospital, shortly after admittance. She was a resident of Brooke Grove Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, in Sandy Spring, from January 1999 until the time of her death. Agnes was the wife of the late Royce Talmage Watkins who passed away March 1, 1972.

Born March 10, 1919, in Ladiesburg, she was a daughter of the late George Worthington Sr., and Alice Loretta Valentine Schaeffer. Agnes was the last member of her family to survive.

She was a life member of the Upper Seneca Baptist Church of Cedar Grove, and was active in church activities. Agnes and her husband adored children, and in their earlier years were foster parents to many underprivileged children, while living on the family farm on Watkins Road in Cedar Grove. Her dog, "Butch," was her constant companion after the death of her husband.

Agnes enjoyed gardening and word-search puzzles.

Surviving her are two daughters, Mary Jo Huntt and husband, Robert, of Germantown and Jane Watkins Gartner of Damascus; two grandsons, John Talmage Mayer and his wife, Julie, of Taneytown, and David Wayne Gartner and his wife, Lilliana, of Damascus; three great-grandchildren, Ashley Renee Mayer, Sean Talmage Mayer, and Samantha Jane Gartner; and a sister-in-law, Dean Schaeffer of Frederick.

Agnes was preceded in death by sisters, Katherine Irene Main, Frances Loretta Haines; and brother George Worthington Schaeffer Jr.

Friends may call 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, at Molesworth-Williams, P.A., Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, at Upper Seneca Baptist Church, 23401 Davis Mill Road, Germantown, MD 20876. Her pastor, Rev. Gayle Clifton, will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family suggest in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Upper Seneca Baptist Church at the address provided above.

Mrs. Zelma E. Stager

Mrs. Zelma E. Stager, 83, of Monrovia, died Friday, March 27, 2009. She was the wife of the late Allen Stager, who died in 2006 after 30 years of marriage.

Born on May 29, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Edward Bouch and Jessie Bowser Bouch. Zelma worked in payroll for the Department of Navy. She was a member of NARFE.

Surviving are five children, Kay Meyers and husband, Jack, of Owings, Robert Stager and wife, Elizabeth, of Camp Hill, Pa., Ray Stager and wife, Linda, of Frederick, Naomi Oswald and husband, Joseph, of Springfield, Va., and Stephanie Dicken and husband, Ted, of Burke, Va.; her sister, Iverna Bouch of Fairmont, W.Va.; two sister-in-laws, Pauline Bouch and Lavaughn Bouch; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son, James Walsh Jr., and her daughter, Mary Walsh.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick; where services will be held at 11 a.m. with Pastor Michael Mangold officiating.

Interment will be private in Cedar Hill cemetery, Suitland.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 11350 McCormack Road, Suite 100EP3, Hunt Valley, MD 21031.

Mr. Charles Hagan Jr.

Charles "Buddy" E. Hagan Jr., 68, of Frederick, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2009, at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Dorothy Hagan. They were married for 49 years.

Born June 4, 1940, in Frederick, he was the son of the late Charles and Margaret Hagan.

He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church. He retired from Wal-Mart and previously worked in the construction business.

He enjoyed hunting and was an avid Redskins fan.

In addition to his loving wife, Dorothy, he is survived by five children, Timothy Hagan and wife, Veronica, of Frederick, Kenneth Hagan of Frederick, James Hagan and wife, Kimberly, of Thurmont, Gregory Hagan of Frederick and Kathleen Thompson and husband, Bernard, of Frederick, grandchildren Ashton, Michelle, Amanda, Jennifer, James, Matin, Cody, Christopher, Melissa, Brittney, Patrick and Rebecca; one great-grandson; five brothers, Howard Hagan, Franklin Hagan, David Hagan, Henry Hagan and Thomas Hagan.

He will also be remembered by his numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 2, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 3, at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 118 E. Second St., Frederick; Rev. Leo Holleran will officiate.

Interment will be in Glade cemetery, Walkersville.

Ms. Margaret Myers

Margaret Elizabeth Myers, 83, died Friday, March 27, 2009, peacefully in her sleep at home.

Born in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late Edward I. Myers Sr. and Julia S. Roelkey Myers.

Survivors include her brother, Lew L. Myers of Woodsboro; nephews, Wilbur G. Myers of Union Bridge and Roelkey I. Myers of Frederick; and niece, Barbara Myers Flanagan of Phoenix, Ariz.; six great-nieces and great-nephews; nine great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

She was a member of DAR, Frederick Historical Society and a life member of the Great Frederick Fair.

She was a 1942 graduate of Frederick High School. Early in her career she worked at Potomac Edison.

Ms. Myers was well-known in the genealogy field and had several publications to her credit.

There will be a celebration of life from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 19, at Mount Olivet Chapel. A private interment is planned at Mount Olivet cemetery at a later date.

Donations can be made to the Historical Society of Frederick County.

Mr. George Smith Jr.

Mr. George G. Smith Jr., died Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at Misericordia Convalescent Nursing Home of York, Pa., after a long illness.

Born Aug. 28, 1930, in Frederick, he was the son of the late George G. and Janie E. Smith. After graduating from Lincoln High School, he attended Maryland State College, and after completing two years, was drafted into the Army, where he served as a paratrooper and military policeman during the Korean War. After military service, he moved to York, Pa., where he met and wed the late Almarie Smallwood, to whom he was married for 49 years.

He was a York City policeman for many years, and upon retirement worked as an attendance officer for the York City School District and a deputy sheriff. George was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Frederick, and in York, Bethel A.M.E. Church, where he served as a trustee for many years.

He is survived by his daughter, Angela Grayson, of York; sister, Dorothy M. Onley of Frederick; two granddaughters, Erin M. and Shanell R. Grayson of York; two nephews, Patrick Onley (and partner Dennis) of Baltimore and Perry Onley of Frederick; two nieces, Natalie Brown (and husband Terry) of Frederick, and Nannette Hobson (and husband Lee) of Cary, N.C.; two cousins, the Honorable Marie Bell of Burlington, N.J., and Alfoster Johnson (and wife Carol) of York.

A memorial celebration of life service will be held at noon, Tuesday, April 7, at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 350 W. Princess Street, with his Pastor, Katherine Rose officiating. Burial will be at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, with military rites presented by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel A.M.E. Church, 350 W. Princess St., York, PA 17404. Arrangements are by Hoffman Funeral Home and Crematory.

Mr. Earl Disney Jr.

Mr. Earl Morton Disney Jr., 58, of Gaithersburg, passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville.

Mr. Disney was born April 25, 1950, in Frederick. He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many. His love for the Lord was reflected in his interaction with everyone he met. Putting God first and thanking Him for everything, especially for his family.

Mr. Disney worked for many years for the City of Gaithersburg Family Services Department.

Mr. Disney is survived by his mother, Florence Disney; and second dad, Autry Fitzpatrick, of Gaithersburg; son, Nathan Disney; daughter, April Disney; stepson, Karlos Smallwood; and ex-wife, Paula Smallwood-Bowie, of Frederick; six grandchildren; brother, William Diggs of Lawton, Okla.; four sisters, Esther Disney, Mary Jane Disney, Dorothy Disney-Pennywell and husband, Jimmy Pennywell, of Gaithersburg, and Joyce Barnes of Germantown; nieces, Brittney Barnes of Germantown and Aleta Bell of Frederick; nephews, David Jr., Derrick and Eric Diggs of Arlington, Va., Tony Lee Bowie of Hagerstown, and Steven Griffith of Greensboro, N.C.; four uncles, Sherman Diggs and Roland Christian of Gaithersburg, Jerry Eason of Patterson, N.J., and Wilbur Johnson of Camp Springs; four aunts, Betty Christian of Gaithersburg, Marva Jeter and Helen Lane of Marlow Heights, and Mary Lee Johnson of Camp Springs; long time friends, David Diggs of Arlington, Va., Donald Dawson of Baltimore, and Daniel (Pat) Barnes of Gaithersburg; and a devoted friend, William (Bart) Pryor of New London.

His father, Earl Morton Disney Sr., preceded him in death.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 6, at Rollins Funeral Home, 110 W. South St., Frederick.

Viewing will be from 10 to 11 a.m. and funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 7, at the funeral home. The Rev. C. Michelle Langston will officiate.

Interment will be at the Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 U.S. Route 15 N, Frederick.

Arrangements are by Rollins Funeral Home, Frederick.
