Mr. Jack Jackson

Mr. Jack Eugene Jackson, 58, of Mount Airy and formerly of Rowlesburg, W.Va., died Friday, April 3, 2009, at Lorien of Mount Airy, after a long and courageous battle with Huntington's disease. He was the husband for 37 years to Mary Victoria "Vickie" Hershman Jackson.

Born April 3, 1951, in Oakland, Md., he was the son of the late Jean Viola (Wolfe) and Guy Thacker Jackson. Jack was retired from the National Institutes of Health in 1999, where he served as a contracting officer.

Surviving besides his wife are his two children, Rachel Kardos and husband, David, of Sykesville, and Brett Jackson of New Market; three brothers, Bob Jackson and wife, Susie, of Florida, Clyde Reneman and wife, Patty, of Derwood, and Keith Jackson and wife, Dale, of Ellicott City; a sister, Susie Brand and husband, Doug, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; three aunts; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, April 5, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mount Airy; where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 6, with Chaplain Dave Bare officiating.

Interment will be private.

Memorials in Jack's name may be made to the Johns Hopkins University of Baltimore Huntington Disease Center, c/o Jessica Lunken, Dept. Director of Psychiatry, 100 N. Charles St., Suite 410, Baltimore, MD 21201 or to Carroll Hospice Inc., 94 Carroll Street, Westminster, MD 21157.

Mr. Richard Black

Mr. Richard E. "Dick" Black, 77, of Frederick, died Saturday, April 4, 2009, at Golden Living. He was the husband of Lena Wagaman Black, his wife of 25 years.

Born Oct. 17, 1931, in York, Pa., he was the son of the late Benjamin R. and Rhoda Raifsnider Black.

Mr. Black was a member of the Fredericktown Baptist Church and volunteered at the Bible School. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Dick was in real estate sales for many years and also in the auto sales industry in Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania for a number of years. He enjoyed gardening, landscaping and raising race horses.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Kathy Harrigan and husband, Brian, Richard E. Black II, Stephanie E. Hilker and husband, Mike, Crystal Peck and Pamela Silva and husband, Dominic; grandchildren, Robert Harrigan, Meghan Brown and husband, Peter, Hope and Elizabeth Hornbaker, April Renaud and Sara Silva; and two great-grandchildren, Keely and Reese Brown.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 10, from Stauffer Funeral Home Chapel, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, with Rev. Les Sims officiating.

Memorial contributions may be donated to Daybreak Adult Day Care, 7819 Rocky Springs Road, Frederick, MD 21702 or Golden Living Center, 30 North Place, Frederick, MD 21701.

Ms. Donna Russell

Beloved Donna Jean Russell, of Grasonville, passed away at Casey Hospice House on Friday morning, April 3, 2009, after her courageous two-year battle with cancer.

She was born Jan. 28, 1943.

She is survived by her three children, Nichole Reinhold, Denise Scates and Travis Kidwell; her seven grandchildren, Devin, Sydni, Trevor, Wyatt, Sammi, Taylor and Kaitlyn; her mother, Virginia Gore; and her brother, Earl Smith.

Private services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the John Kanzius Cancer Foundation; KanziusCancerResearch.com.

We will miss you immensely, Mom. We love you.

Mr. David Necessary Sr.

David H. Necessary Sr., 62, of Stottlemyer Road, Wolfsville, died Thursday, April 2, 2009, at his home.

Born Jan. 25, 1947, in Bluefield, Va., he was the son of Margaret Irene (Wilson) Heldreth of Bluefield, Va., and the late Howard Bailey Necessary.

He was employed as an A/C, Heating and Refrigeration Journeyman with Local #602 as a licensed HVAC.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sara E. (Worley) Necessary, whom he married Dec. 8, 1965; daughter, Sherri Fleishell and husband, James; sons, David Necessary Jr. and companion, Taffy Clark, and Joseph Necessary and wife, M. Traci Necessary; grandchildren, Meaghan Gallagher, Michael Gallagher, Joseph Necessary, Riley Necessary, Jack Necessary and Jacob Necessary; sister, Dianna Gwinn and husband, JC, of Ghent, W.Va.; and stepfather, Neil Heldreth of Bluefield, Va.

There will be no viewing.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, from J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg; Pastor Randy Reid will officiate. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Miss Stephanie Nicole Pavlichek

Stephanie Nicole Pavlichek, 25, of Frederick, (also known as "Morgan" to some of her friends) died Friday, April 3, 2009, in her sleep.

Stephanie was the beloved daughter of Paul and Doris Pavlichek, of Frederick, and the sister of Sean Pavlichek. Their hearts are broken with the loss of their dearest girl. She is also survived by her grandmother, Diane Pavlichek of Kitty Hawk, N.C.; her uncles, Jim Pavlichek of Stafford, Va., David Pavlicheck of Marietta, Ga., Terry Evans of Wichita, Kan., Larry Evans of Washington, D.C., and Matt Burris of Hempstead, Texas, Pedro Espinoza of Snellville, Ga.; her aunts, Gail Burris of Hempstead, Texas, Penny Powell of Fitzgerald, Ga., Cindy Allison of Rosanky, Texas, Candace Espinoza of Snellville, Ga., and Marilou Evans of Wichita, Kan.; her cousins, Daniel Evans, Heather Elliott, Justin Evans, Bradley Evans, Ryan Powell, Jessica Garcia, Amanda Garcia, Christopher Garcia, Nicole Espinoza and James Pavlichek, all join us in mourning the passing of our beautiful girl.

Stephanie was a friend of Bill W. and touched many lives. Those who knew her will never forget her.

A celebration of her life is being held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 9, at Church of the Redeemer at the Senior High Worship Center, 19425 Woodfield Road, Gaithersburg. Pastor Steve Rivera will officiate.

Everyone who knew her is welcomed and encouraged to attend.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either the Lupus Foundation of America (Lupus.org) or National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI.org).

Mrs. Dora Hurley

Mrs. Dora Virginia Greer Hurley, 92, of Dickerson, died Monday morning, April 6, 2009, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Oscar Hurley.

Born May 11, 1916, in Shady Valley, Tenn., she was a daughter of the late James Isaac and Susan Isabell Johnson Rambo.

Surviving are two sons, James C. Bowers of Boyds and Rex E. Blevins of Frederick; a daughter-in-law, Belva M. Bowers of Dickerson; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Marjorie C. Byrd of Frederick and Williams D. Rambo of La Lug, N.M.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Hurley was preceded in death by sons, John Mack Bowers; grandson, Larry Mack Bowers; daughter-in-law, Evelyn Burdette Bowers; as well as six siblings.

Services and interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are by Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, Damascus.

Mrs. Ann Elder

Ann Schaffer Elder, 50, of Vernal, Utah, died Tuesday, March 31, 2009, following a brief illness. She was the wife of Thomas C. Elder, to whom she was married in 1989.

Born April 7, 1958, in Frederick, Ann was the daughter of Rebekah Derr Schaffer of Frederick and the late R. James Schaffer.

A graduate of Gov. Thomas Johnson High School in 1976, Ann continued her education at Northland College in Northland, Wis., then at the University of Vermont in Burlington, where she earned her bachelor's degree in geology in 1980. She earned her master's degree in geology/paleontology in 1992 from Utah State University in Logan, Utah.

Finding paleontology a good way to combine her love of rocks and her love of biology, she began her career at Fossil Butte National Park. She then became a paleontologist in the National Park Service at Dinosaur National Monument in Dinosaur, Colo.

As a museum specialist, she participated in the digging at Dinosaur Quarry to extract fossils and bones of dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures from the rocks and in identification and recording of the creatures, including some rare fossils.

At the visitor center, she greeted visitors and explained the exhibits. Later, she served as curator of exhibits and was involved in preserving the exhibits when Dinosaur closed recently for repairs to the wall at the visitor center. She also served as a teacher and consultant at other museums.

After Dinosaur closed, she accepted a position as chief of Resource Management at Colorado National Monument, where she was employed at the time of her death. For Ann, the study of paleontology was an important help for us to learn about our earth and to understand the environment we live in today.

Surviving in addition to her husband and mother, is a sister, Susan E. Wade and husband, David, of Boonsboro; a brother, Dr. Gary D. Schaffer and wife, Lisa, of Taylorsville, N.C.; nieces and nephews, Jennie E. Leatherman and husband, Kevin, of Wolfsville, Matthew Wade and wife, Cortney, and Joshua Wade of Frederick, Sarah S. McCurdy and husband, Jason, Hannah, Brooks, and Peter Schaffer, all of North Carolina; and great-nieces and -nephews, Camden and Zackary McCurdy and Andrew Leatherman. She is also survived by a number of aunts and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 18, at Mar-Lu Ridge Camp and Conference Center.

Mr. Charles Stimmel

Mr. Charles Leroy Stimmel, of Pueblo, Colo., died at his home on Thursday night, April 2, 2009. He was born June 21, 1942. Charles was the loving husband of Joyce Habenstein Stimmel. He was the son of Eileen Shank and Charles A. Stimmel and brother of Sandra J. Wetzel.

He was a member of American Legion in Colorado. He worked for the City of Pueblo, Colo., as a fireman and he served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Surviving in addition to his wife is a son, Rodney and wife, Trina; and two grandsons, Roman and Logan Stimmel; as well as aunts, uncles and cousins.

Miss Veronica Buckley

Miss Veronica Patricia "Lonnie" Buckley, 46, of Frederick, died Monday, April 6, 2009, at Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C.

Born Aug. 14, 1962, in Zama, Japan, she was a daughter of the late Denis Patrick and Toshiko Matsuura Buckley.

Miss Buckley had been employed with Amour Flower Shop in Frederick. She was a local artist who enjoyed painting, sculpting and gardening. She was loving to all humans and all animals.

Surviving is a sister, Denise T. Buckley of Frederick, and two cousins in Japan. She will be missed by many friends in Frederick.

There will be no calling or visiting at the funeral home.

Funeral services and inurnment will be private and at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in memory of Miss Buckley to the American Cancer Society, 1393 Progress Way, Suite 908, Eldersburg, MD 21784.

Arrangements are by Robert E. Dailey and Son Funeral Homes, P.A., Frederick.

Mrs. Rolinda Sweitzer

Rolinda "Lennie" Boyer Sweitzer, of Hedgesville, W.Va., died Sunday, April 5, 2009, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va. She was the beloved wife, for 21 years, to Donald Robert Sweitzer Jr.

Born Oct. 27, 1950, she was the daughter of the late Roland and Mary Summers Cline. She was the sister of the late Janice V. Lidie.

After her first husband passed away, Mrs. Sweitzer raised her two children. Mrs. Sweitzer was the loving mother to Dawn Metz of Hedgesville and Douglas Boyer and wife, Rachel, of Brunswick. Lennie was a devoted grandmother to Kayin, Jordyn, Jaiden, Devonte, Javon and Ivory.

Lennie's best buddy in the world was her first grandson, Kayin. They were inseparable. He helped her through many rough times during her illnesses when she was cared for at home. He stayed by her side every minute he could and their bond will never be broken.

Her granddaughter, Jordyn also holds a special bond and place in her heart because she has lived with Lennie and has helped care for her as well during all her ill times.

She loved to spend time with all her grandchildren, loved the outdoors, and enjoyed her vacations and fishing each year when she went to see her nephews and their family, Thomas and Michael Lidie.

She was employed at Wolters Kluwer as a data entry specialist. Lennie was a very loving, caring, independent person who battled disabilities her whole life and served as a huge inspiration to everyone she came in contact with. She was a strong and courageous woman and will be missed by many.

She is also survived by brother, Perry Schell and wife, Joan, of West Virginia; sister, Wanda Boone and husband, Butch, of Frederick; her step-mother, Norma Cline of Williamsport; nephews, Thomas Lidie Jr. and Michael Lidie; and countless other friends and family.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 10, at Keeney and Basford, P.A., Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 11, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 5463 Jefferson Pike, Feagaville; Rev. Stacey Brady and Rev. Kenneth Gill will officiate. Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Lidie, Thomas Lidie Jr., Thomas Lidie Sr., James Lidie, Andreas Hale, Perry Schell, Tommy Watson and Glen Sweitzer. Interment will be in St. Luke's cemetery, Feagaville.

In lieu of flowers, monetary contributions may be made directly to the Sweitzer family.

Mrs. Barbara Huse

Mrs. Barbara Ann Huse, 66, of Thurmont, died Monday, April 6, 2009, at Frederick Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer that lasted for several years. She was the wife of Charles W. Huse.

Born Sept. 26, 1942, in Frederick, she was the daughter of Hilda Gertrude Gue Ramsburg of Thurmont, and the late Worthington W. Ramsburg.

Mrs. Huse was a homemaker. She was very devoted to her family.

In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by her daughter, Debbie Whipp and husband, Lee, of Frederick; one sister, Patricia Huse and husband, Carl, of Frederick; two brothers, Larry Ramsburg and wife, Sherri, of Pennsylvania, and Wayne Ramsburg of Thurmont; one half-brother, Jimmy Ramsburg of Colorado; and two grandsons, Brandon and Derrick Whipp. She also will be remembered by many nieces and nephews, including great-niece Amanda Lamkin; and several friends, including special friends, Roger and Glenn, and her very dear friend, Jane Harrison in New Mexico.

Mrs. Huse also will be remembered by her daughter Debbie's friends, Cindy Hannah and Stacy Doody. She considered Cindy and Stacy her other daughters. She will be missed by her dog, Maggie.

Mrs. Huse was predeceased by her granddaughter, Shannon Marie Boone, in 2005.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, and Thursday, April 9, at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, April 10, from the funeral home chapel. Officiating will be Pastor Jeff Bowersock of Frederick Baptist Church.

Serving as bearers will be Eddie Kanode, nephew; Herbie Ramsburg, cousin; Brandon and Derrick Whipp, grandsons; Carl Huse, brother-in-law; and Tom Legg, friend. Honorary bearers will be Michael Ramsburg, nephew; and Jonathon Stanbaugh, great-nephew. Interment will be in Union Chapel cemetery, Libertytown.

If desired, memorial contributions may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
