Mr. Charles Carroll Parker

Mr. Charles Carroll Parker, 83, of Frederick, formerly of Damascus, died Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Jean Watkins Parker, who preceded him in death in 1991.

Born May 10, 1925, in Dorchester County, he was a son of the late Charles Smith "Smitty" and Norma Wallace Parker.

Charles, also known as "Carroll" in his childhood and "CC" or "Chuck" during his middle years, grew up on Hoopers Island on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Charles attended business school in Baltimore after graduating high school, and served in the Navy during World War II. After the war ended, Charles attended Western Maryland College in Westminster, where he met, fell in love with and courted his future wife, Jean.

After graduating from college, Charles and Jean began teaching in Towson, and shortly thereafter moved to Jean's hometown of Damascus in 1950. They lived and raised their family in Damascus while Charles taught English at Damascus High School for 20 years and then John T. Baker Junior High for another 13 years. After retiring, Charles continued to teach as a professor, first at Montgomery College, and then later at Hood College for another 10 years. For several years in the early 1970s, Charles and Jean also published the Damascus Courier newspaper.

Charles was a lifelong Methodist. He was an active member in Montgomery Methodist Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir for many years. Charles also attended Damascus Meth-odist Church later in life. Charles is remembered for his beautiful tenor voice and was requested to sing at many weddings, and also later in life by his many friends at Somerford House in Frederick.

Surviving are his sons, Peter, Timothy, Barry and Randall; daughters-in-law, Suzanne Parker and Jane Ruth Seymour; nine grandchildren, Grace, James, Philip, Rebekah, Benjamin, Samantha, Charles, Patrick and Thomas; as well as his sister, Dorothy Harbaugh; and nephews and niece, Ray, David, Danny and Diane.

Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Micah; and in-laws, Bates Ewing and Rebecca Reed Watkins.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, at Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 15, at Montgomery Methodist cemetery, Damascus. The Rev. Orlando "Bud" Kibbe, of Montgomery United Methodist Church, will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Frederick Memorial Hospital, 700 W. Seventh St., Frederick, MD 21701.

Mr. Stephen Mason Williams

Mr. Stephen Mason Williams, 27, of Mount Airy, died unexpectedly at home Thursday, April 9, 2009. He was the son of Jay Williams of Mount Airy and the late Sandra Williams.

Born March 19, 1982, in Olney, Stephen graduated from Linganore High School in 2000. He loved reading, music, TV and cinema, and was extremely knowledgeable in all these media.

In addition to his father, Stephen is survived by two brothers, Wade Williams and wife, Cindy, and Jason Williams; a niece, Lili Smith; a nephew, Alex Williams; Cindy's mother, Arlene Katz; and many other close friends.

Services will be private. Donations in Stephen's memory may be made to the Maryland School for the Deaf, P.O. Box 250, Frederick, MD 21705, or to the American Diabetes Association, Diabetes.org; 800-342-2383.

Arrangements are by Resthaven Funeral Services, Skkot Cody, P.A., Frederick.

Mr. Paul Eugene Bogley Sr.

Mr. Paul Eugene Bogley Sr. (Gene), 80, formerly of Darnestown, passed away Thursday, April 9, 2009, at Florida Hospital Fish Memorial, Deltona, Fla. He was the husband of the late Lucille Moneymaker Bogley for 62 years.

Born April 15, 1928, in Washington, he was the son of the late Dorothy Small and Paul W. Bogley. He was preceded in death by his brother, William Clyde Bogley.

He is survived by a son, Paul E. Bogley Jr. (Gene) and wife, Janet, of Monrovia; daughter, Judith Rankin and husband, William, of Frederick and son, David and friend, Debbie, of Germantown; one grandson, Jamie P. Bogley and wife, Barbara, of Middletown; and one great-granddaughter, Abigail Bogley of Middletown.

The family will have a private service at a later date.

Mr. Robert Lee Spicer

Mr. Robert Lee Spicer, 52, of Baltimore, died Friday, April 10, 2009, at Transition Healthcare in Sykesville.

He was born Feb. 3, 1957, as the son of Greta A. Spicer and the late William A. Spicer, who passed away April 27, 1993.

Surviving are two sisters, Linda M. Kozlek and husband, Peter, and Kathleen A. Ecklund and husband, Edward; a brother, William A. Spicer Jr. and wife, Roberta; one niece, Karen L. Barrow and husband, Robert; four nephews, Michael P. Kozlek, Jason W. Spicer and wife, Kathleen, Stephen T. Kozlek, and Alexander D. Vlahov and wife, Christine; and seven grandnieces and grandnephews, Kevin, Kelly, Kaitlyn, Kortney Spicer and Leah, Ethan and Rei Vlahov.

The family will receive family and friends from 10 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, April 14, at Witzke Funeral Home, 4112 Old Columbia Pike, Ellicott City. Funeral services will follow visitation at the funeral home. His cousin, the Rev. James Olson, of Wynnewood, Pa., will officiate.

Burial will be held at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens, 2150 Mont View Road, Marriottsville.

Ms. Dorothy Elizabeth Perry

Dorothy Elizabeth Perry, 81, of Emmitsburg, died peacefully Friday, April 10, 2009, at Gettysburg Hospital in Gettysburg, Pa.

She was born Sept. 21, 1927, in Fairfield, Pa., as the daughter of the late Ray and Ruth (Hare) Wiekert. She was predeceased by her longtime companion, Joseph Yohe.

Dorothy was retired from Freeman Shoe in Emmitsburg, and was an avid Baltimore Orioles fan and enjoyed puzzle books.

Surviving her are daughters, Judy Ann Brown and husband, Maurice, of Fairfield, Pa., and Donna Shriner of Emmitsburg; son, Donald Perry of Gettysburg, Pa.; grandchildren, David Brown, Heather Drumheller, Chris Shriner and Kaitlyn Perry; great-grandchildren, Samantha Brown, Danielle Drum-heller, Brandon Drumheller and Emily Drumheller.

She was predeceased by brothers, Ray and Clair Weikert.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg.

Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Gettysburg, Pa. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and 10 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Ms. Helen Florence Mock

Helen Florence Mock, 91, went to be with her family on Friday, April 10, 2009, surrounded by those who loved her.

She was born Oct. 14, 1917, in Frederick, as the daughter of the late Herman and Edna Anna Mary Riddlemoser Mock. Helen was the last of her immediate family but is survived by extended family -- especially the Fitzpatricks, the Keepers and all of the four-legged friends she made along the way.

Ms. Mock graduated from Frederick High School, Class of 1935. She was a loyal member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Frederick, a member of the Frederick Travel Club, Frederick Medical Fitness and the American Red Cross.

Helen was a very giving person, a devoted sister and a friend to all who knew her.

Helen was the legal secretary for the late John R. Fitzpatrick of Frederick and an adoptive member of the family for more than 60 years. She will be remembered by her extended family and her Godchild, Janice Riley, of Florida. She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles (Bud) Mock, and sister, Barbara Lee Mock.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 16, at Keeney and Basford, P.A., Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. The Rev. David Albertson will officiate. Interment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Frederick County Chapter, American Red Cross, P.O. Box 186, Walkersville, MD 21793; Evangelical Lutheran Church, 35 E. Church St., Frederick, MD 21701; or a charity of one's choice.

Mrs. Mildred B. Smith

Mrs. Mildred B. "Millie" Smith, 91, of Thurmont, passed away quietly at home on Easter Sunday, April 12, 2009, after a courageous fight with cancer. She was the wife of the late Thomas E. Smith, who she married May 23, 1943. After 57 years of marriage, he passed away in December 2000.

Born May 24, 1917, in Cheesequake, N.J., she was a daughter of the late Suzanna Schulmesiter and Clyde E. Bowne.

She and her husband, Tom, and daughter moved to Maryland in 1963 and purchased and named Towne N'Country liquor store in Thurmont, which they owned and operated for 16 years. After her retirement from the retail business, she enjoyed spending time with her family and particularly taking care of her grandsons when they were little boys. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church and Thurmont Senior Citizens. In May 2007, she celebrated her 90th birthday with a surprise party with all of her family and friends attending.

Surviving is a daughter and "girlfriend," Carol Robertson of Thurmont; grandchildren, Jeremy T. Hahn and wife, Angie, of Thurmont, Jason P. Hahn and wife, Nicole, of Land O'Lakes, Fla., W. Mark Robertson and wife, Michele, of Ventura, Calif., and Deborah R. Luksa and husband, Mike, of Keedysville; four great-grandsons, Adam, Chance, Buddy and Cole and her granddog, Jessie. She will be remembered by special friends, Judy Wise, Nancy Dutterar and Ginny Ridenour.

Millie was one of 11 children, all born at home, to the Bownes at their farm in Cheesequake. Of the 11 children, surviving is one sister, Katherine Eifert of Matawan, N.J. and two brothers, Amos Bowne of Old Bridge, N.J. and J. Donald Bowne and wife, Mary, of Emmitsburg; brother-in-law, William E. Smith and wife, Florence, of Walnut Creek, Calif. In addition, she is survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas E. Smith Jr. and a son-in-law, William E. Robertson.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, at Robert E. Dailey and Son Funeral Homes, P.A., 615 E. Main St., Thurmont. A Christian wake service will be held 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday, April 16, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church, North Church Street, Thurmont.

Interment will be in Mount Carmel cemetery, Thurmont. Bearers will be Jeremy T. Hahn, Carroll Glass, Mark Moser, Al Zienda, Rob McAfee and Mike Warner.

Mrs. Louise Jacobs

Mrs. Louise G. (Keyser) Jacobs, 98, of Frederick, died Saturday, April 11, 2009, at Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center, Frederick. She was the wife of the late George Melvin Jacobs, who died Aug. 9, 1961.

Born Nov. 4, 1910, in Bethel, Frederick County, she was a daughter of the late William F. and Adella E. Stull Keyser.

Mrs. Jacobs was formerly a member of Faith United Church of Christ, Charlesville, and for many years has been a member of the First Baptist Church, Frederick, where she was active in the Rebekah Sunday School Class, the Fun Bunch, and for many years was a devoted volunteer and chaired the Kitchen Angels of the church. She was also a former member of the Patriotic Club and F.S.K. Post 11, American Legion Auxiliary, of Frederick.

She is survived by one son, Robert W. Jacobs and wife, Sandy, of Frederick; one daughter-in-law, Ruthellen Jacobs of Frederick; three grandchildren, Ronnie P. Jacobs and fianc?e, Donna Heffner, Stephen W. Jacobs and wife, Janet, and R. Eric Jacobs and wife, Teresa; five great-grandchildren, Cameron, Andrew, Chase, Colin and Lucas; and many nieces and nephews.

She is also remembered by the residents and staff of Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center, where she has spent the last few years and who the family wishes to thank with gratitude for their compassion and care to her and her family.

She was preceded in death by a son, Richard Phillip Jacobs Sr.; grandson, Richard P. Jacobs Jr.; three brothers, Oscar W. Keyser, Braden C. Keyser, Walter R. Keyser; and seven sisters, Ava Irene Kesyer Martz, Mary Rueyann Keyser Clem, Bessie Viola Keyser Stull, Nora Elizabeth Keyser, Grace Celestise Keyser Clem, Blanche Margaret Keyser Klipp, and Ollie May Keyser Burdette.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 16, at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 17, from the funeral home, with the Rev. Burnis D. Barrett officiating. Interment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the First Baptist Church, Building Fund, 7040 Bowers Road, Frederick, MD 21702 or to Faith United Church of Christ, 9333 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702.

Mrs. Ionia Clagett

Mrs. Ionia R. Clagett, 85, of Mount Airy, died Saturday, April 11, 2009, at her residence. She was the wife of George R. Clagett, her husband of 65 years.

Born May 22, 1923, in Brantford, N.D., she was the daughter of the late Harry B. and Vada Row.

She was the combination secretary, assistant, office manager, etc. to the late Dr. Raymond Bradshaw, in his office in Silver Spring. She had a special relationship with many of his patients, which continued to today.

Ionia was a member of the Providence United Methodist Church in Kemptown. She was an avid sports fan, especially basketball and the Washington Wizards. She loved helping others and enjoyed cooking, gardening, bowling; and her weekly Thursday afternoon lunches with friends.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Terry Buckler of Damascus and Vicki Clagett of Mount Airy; a granddaughter, Debbie Comer of Gaithersburg; and a great-grandson, Brandon Comer of Damascus. Mrs. Clagett was preceded in death by siblings, Arnold Row and Pauline Alfstad.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mount Airy. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 16, at Providence United Methodist Church, 3735 Kemptown Church Road, Monrovia.

Interment will be held in Parklawn Memorial Park, Rockville.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 1393 Progress Way, Suite 908, Eldersburg, MD 21784.

Mrs. Mary Hipkins

Mrs. Mary Charlotte Hipkins, 87, of Frederick County, passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2009, at Homewood at Crumland Farms, Frederick. She was the former wife of Mr. Mitchell L. Lam Jr., who passed away in 1978. She later married Mr. Perry L. Hipkins, who passed away in 1979.

Born Aug. 19, 1921, in Barthlows, Frederick County, she was the daughter of Mr. Charles Roy and Pauline Nicholas (Hipkins) Rout.

Mrs. Hipkins worked as a hostess at Venice Restaurant in Hagerstown. She also worked as a secretary at Hesco Engraving, also in Hagerstown.

Mrs. Hipkins is the mother of Peggy A. Ryan, Michael C. Lum, and Gary N. Lum; stepmother of John Hipkins, Perry Lloyd Hipkins, Thomas Hipkins and Charlotte Mullenix; grandmother of Michael C. Lum Jr., Michelle E. Lane, and Nichole L. Lum; great-grandmother of Elizabeth C. Adams, Caitlin M. Adams and Rachel E. Lane; sister of Betty J. Brashear and Margaret Martin. She is preceded in death by her son, the late Mitchell L. Lam III.

All services were private. Arrangements are by Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, Frederick.

Infant Harmony Ecker

Harmony Ecker, of Frederick, passed into God's arms on Friday, March 27, 2009. She was the daughter of Jason and Teia Ecker.

Harmony is survived by her siblings, Devin, Jason Jr., Aliza, Isabelle and Kayden; her grandmothers, Emma Shipley and Dana Lane; her aunts, Karley and April; her uncle, Jeffrey; and many loving cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday April 2, at Keeney and Basford, P.A., Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Interment will be at the Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.
