Ms. Janice Bugbee

Janice A. Bugbee passed away Saturday, April 11, 2009, at Legacy Hospice House in Ocala, Fla. Born Nov. 22, 1950, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., she was the daughter of Joseph P. and the late W. June Fitzmaurice.

Janice was an excellent homemaker, enjoyed crafts, painting, cooking and walking the dogs with her neighborhood friends. She was a foster mom for greyhound rescue and adopted two of the dogs in her care. She lived in Maryland and worked for 27 years at the office of the Surgeon General before moving to the Ocala/Dunnellon area in 1999 with her father to be close to her sister and enjoy the warm weather.

Janice leaves behind her sons, Michael K. Bugbee and his wife, Renee, and their daughter, Avery, of Smithsburg; and Matthew J. Bugbee and his wife, Kristy, and their sons, Ian and Austin of Ranson, W.Va.; a sister, Jody Casson of Williston, Fla.; a brother, J. Paul Fitzmaurice of Hedgesville, W.Va.; and nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, friends, neighbors and pets.

A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 16, at The Legacy House, 9505 SW 110th St., Ocala, FL 34481.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Marion County (HospiceofMarion.com) or National Greyhound Foundation (4Greyhounds.org).

Mr. Joseph Main Jr.

Mr. Joseph Frank Main Jr., 81, of Germantown, died Sunday, April 12, 2009, at his residence. He was the husband of the late Anna Lee Porterfield Main, who died in 1983, and the late Dianne Kaye Olmstead Main, who died in 2006.

He was born in Frederick, on June 2, 1927, and was a son of the late Joseph Frank Main Sr. and Evelyn V. Ridenour Main.

In July of 1944, he entered the Merchant Marine and served as a radio operator on several Liberty Ships in the North Atlantic. He proudly served his country during World War II. He then entered the United States Army in July 1946 and served until December 1947.

In the late '40s and early '50s, he and his father owned and operated a painting and wallpapering business. Then, in 1957, he joined the Frederick City Police Department until 1969 and he became a lieutenant. In 1969 he joined the Sheriff's Department in Montgomery County and worked most of his career there on the fugitive squad, before retiring in 1994.

At one time, Mr. Main was active with the Frederick Seneca Football Club. He was an avid bow hunter and former member of the Tuscarora Archery Club and also was a bicyclist and had received the Presidential Fitness Award. He was a member of the Clan Gunn Society and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie 1067, Frederick.

Surviving are his children, Verena L. Rose of Olney and James F. Main and wife, Debra, of Mount Airy; two stepsons, Robert and Michael Maxwell; two brothers, James E. Main of Lake Gaston, N.C., and Wilbur L. Main of Frederick; four grandchildren, Edward J. Rose and wife, Lisa, Amanda L., Emily J. and Andrew J. Main; two great-grandchildren, Justin L. and Abbey L. Rose; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 16, at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 17, in Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. The Rev. Robert E. Manthey will officiate. Interment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Concerns of Police Survivors Inc., P.O. Box 3199, Camdenton, MO 65020.

Mr. Jack Moberly

Mr. Jack E. Moberly, 71, of Frederick, died Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Shirley Moberly. They were married for 45 years.

Born Nov. 23, 1937, in Walkersville, he was the son of the late Charles Robert Jr. and Grace Viola Wisner Moberly.

Mr. Moberly was a longtime employee and manager of The Gun Center in Frederick. Prior to that, he worked for Frederick Gas Co., and he managed several gas stations in the Frederick area. Mr. Moberly was an avid hunter and fisherman, but most importantly, he was an enthusiastic grandfather.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Moberly is survived by one son, Kevin Moberly and wife, Nicolette, of Woodsboro; one daughter, Brenda Ryan-Ghitelman and husband, Seth, of Rockville; one brother, William L. Moberly and wife, Susie, of Walkersville; one sister, Peggy Plank and husband, Bob, of Chesapeake, Va.; four grandchildren, Allison, Kaitlyn, Erin and Thomas Moberly; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 17, at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 18, from the funeral home chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. James S. Flora.

Interment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

Mr. Wayne Gruner

Wayne R. Gruner died Saturday, April 11, 2009, from complications due to early Alzheimer's disease. He was 87 years old.

He is survived by his second wife, Sarah Gruner of Gaithersburg; his three daughters, Karen Gruner of Ijamsville, Nora Gruner of Fairbanks, Ark., and Wendy Graves of Duluth, Minn.; his stepdaughter, Cheryl Starke of Libertytown; his stepson, Kevin Starke of Bethesda; and a sister, brother and two grandsons.

Mr. Gruner, originally from Minneapolis, Minn., resided in Maryland for 59 years and had a successful career with the federal government.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 30, in the chapel at the Asbury Methodist Village, Odenhal Road, Gaithersburg.

Ms. Shirley Grant

Ms. Shirley M. Grant, 69, of Frederick, died Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at her daughter's home in Millsboro, Pa.

Born March 23, 1940, in Silver Spring, she was the daughter of the late Ashby and Martha Grant.

Surviving are her children, Theresa Campbell and husband, Randy, of Millsboro, Cora Berndt of Falls Church, Va., and William "Ernie" Shaffer of Frederick; one sister, Dorothy Nicholson; two brothers, Raymond and Robert Grant; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 17, at Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Road (Md. 109), Barnesville (HiltonFH.com).

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 18, at Boyds Presbyterian Church, 19901 White Ground Road, Boyds.

Interment will be in Monocacy cemetery, Beallsville.

Ms. Julia Zimmerman

Julia Catherine Zimmerman, 79, of Frederick, died Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center of Frederick.

Born Feb. 20,1930, in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late Lester C. and Nellie Castle Zimmerman.

Ms. Zimmerman attended the Parkway School of Frederick and was a dedicated caregiver for family and friends. Early on she cared for her stepmother and father for as long as they lived. She then moved to Frederick with her sister, Bessie, and helped take care of her for more than 22 years. Julia loved animals, her vegetable garden and flowers. She enjoyed sharing her produce from the garden with others. Ms. Zimmerman was also a longtime member of the Manor Lutheran Parish St. Matthews Church of Frederick.

Ms. Zimmerman is survived by her sister, Bessie Jane Hemp; and her nieces and nephews, Nellie Lee Easterday and husband, Donald, David Shafer and wife, Sandra, James Shafer, John Shafer and wife, Tamya, and Charlotte Bowers and husband, Eddie. She is additionally survived by many loving great-nieces and great-nephews.

Ms. Zimmerman was preceded in death by her sister, Hazel V. Shafer.

Visitation with family will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 17, at Keeney and Basford, P.A., Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 18, from the funeral home. The Rev. Marina C. Flores will officiate. Interment will be at Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

Pallbearers for the service will be Thomas, Kenneth and Ruth Ellen Easterday, Michael Bowers, and Daniel and Joseph Shafer.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Matthews Lutheran Church, 4004 Ballenger Creek Pike, Frederick, MD 21702.

Mrs. June Michael

Mrs. June M. Michael, 69, of Walkersville, passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at Carroll Hospice Dove House in Westminster. She was the wife of Raymond F. "Bobby" Michael, her husband of 50 years.

Born Oct. 7, 1939, in Ruckersville, Va., she was the daughter of the late John I. Sr. and Buford G. Melone. June graduated from Lane High School in Charlottesville, Va., Class of 1958. She served as a pre-school teacher at Glade Valley Church of the Brethren and later as a school crossing guard in Walkersville for 16 years.

In addition to her husband, June is survived by two children, Marty Michael and wife, JoAnn, and Terri Alexander and husband, Randy; three grandchildren, Aaron Alexander, Julia Michael and Jeremy Michael; a brother, John I. Melone Jr., and wife, Wanda; two nieces; and several other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 18, at the Chapel Mausoleum of Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 U.S. 15 N., Frederick, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday. Bishop Merle Lyles will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Carroll Hospice Dove House, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD 21157.

Arrangements are by Resthaven Funeral Services, Skkot Cody, P.A., Frederick.

Mrs. Ethel Dixon

Mrs. Ethel Stine Dixon, 108, formerly of Sherman Avenue, Frederick, and for the past 10 years a resident of Vindobona Nursing Home, Braddock Heights, died Tuesday, April 14, 2009. She was the wife of the late Norman M. Dixon, who died February 28, 1974.

Born April 1, 1901, in Middletown, she was a daughter of the late George H. and Fannie Cramer Stine.

Mrs. Dixon grew up on the family farm which was located between Jefferson and Middletown, where along with her family, they grew vegetables and raised chickens for eggs, and cows and hogs for milk and butchering. They all worked hard and used what they grew. She later worked for several years cleaning houses, sewing and doing laundry with a washboard and hanging it out to dry. She often said hard work, clean living and going to church was her key to a long wonderful life.

She enjoyed many activities at the home and was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Frederick.

Mrs. Dixon is survived by her sister, Ruth G. Wachter, who is 100, and also at Vindobona; several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; and great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Myrtle M. Brown and Virgie E. Moser.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 20, in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Friends may call one hour prior to the services. Pastor Lynn Wilson, assistant pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Activity Fund of the Vindobona Nursing Home, P.O. Box 318, Braddock Heights, MD 21714.

Mr. Harry Stockman

Mr. Harry Edward Stockman, 91, of Frederick, passed into eternal rest Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at Northampton Manor, after a few hours residence.

Born Jan. 4, 1918, in Frederick County, he was the son of the late Harry Isaac and May Perkins Stockman. He was educated in the old Rocky Springs School, Frederick County. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946, in Europe during World War II. He was assigned to the 3280th Ord-nance Depot Co. and received numerous medals for his service.

He was employed 20 years with the B&O; Railroad, Brunswick; 20 years with the Frederick Iron and Steel; and 10 years at Weis Market, Old Camp Road. He was a former parishioner of the Edgewood Church of God. He was a member of the Thurmont American Legion, Post 168, and past member of the Thurmont Senior Citizens. Harry was an avid Orioles fan and an accomplished duckpin bowler, earning many awards. He also enjoyed traveling and gardening. He gave his heart to four wives who predeceased him, Pauline Heffner, Asylee Ridgeway and Virginia Lucas, all of Brunswick, and Mary Rice Smith of Mountaindale. He was predeceased by his sister, Hazel Mazur of Frederick.

He is survived by his daughters, Linda R. Sweeney at home, and Linda L. Stine and husband, Richard, near Libertytown; stepsons, Oscar Smith and his late wife, Barbara, of Frederick, and Leo Smith and wife, Pauline, of Thurmont; his brother, Chester Stockman; and sisters, Charlotte Haines and Jeanette Ramsburg, all of Frederick; grandchildren, Joseph Stine of Woodsboro, Sherry Doody Nolan of Emmitsburg, and Kevin Sweeney and wife, Kathi, of Mountaindale; great-grandchildren, Leann Windsor and Christopher Nolan of Walkersville and Kristina Sweeney of Mountaindale; great-great-grandchildren, Zachary Easterling and Taylor Simpson, both of Walkersville; and his beloved pets, Babe and Buddy BJ.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, and Sunday, April 19, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 20, with the Rev. Joseph P. Sheedy officiating.

Interment will be in Clustered Spires cemetery, Frederick.

Memorial contributions may be made to Animal Welfare League of Frederick County, P.O. Box 690, Frederick, MD 21705-0690.

Mrs. Beverly Kline

Mrs. Beverly Romaine Kline, 67, of Salisbury, formerly of Frederick, died Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. Born in Creagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Franklin Leroy Hann Sr. and Laura Belle Staub Hann.

She was a legal secretary for 14 years for Adkins, Potts and Smethurst LLP, retiring in 2008. She loved sewing and crocheting; flowers; her pet cats, Gizmo and Ladybug; sitting on her front porch and just being with her family.

She is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 51 years, Charles E. Kline Sr.; a daughter, Trevis M. Keefer of Salisbury; a son, Charles E. Kline Jr. and wife, Debbie, of MacCleney, Fla.; two granddaughters, Tabitha T. Hargett and husband, Rick, of Salisbury, and Ashlie N. Kline of MacCleney, Fla.; two great-grandchildren, Chyanne and Ty Hargett; a sister, Cheryl Anders and husband, Andy, of Sharpsburg; a brother, Frank Hann Jr., and wife, Deb, of Coradilis, Ore.; a brother-in-law, Russell D. Long Jr., and wife, Bonnie, of Frederick; two adopted daughters, Susanne Zilberfarb and husband, Greg, of Oak Hill, Va., and Valerie Post and husband, Jason, of Salisbury; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Janice L. Hann Long; two sisters-in-law, Ruth N. Anders and Faye E. Oden; and two nephews, William Anders and Paul W. Anders III.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 18, at the Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Officiating will be the Rev. Pat Marvel.

Arrangements are by Holloway Funeral Home, P.A., 501 Snow Hill Road, Salisbury.

Mrs. Thelma Foss

Mrs. Thelma Foss, 86, of La Plata, died Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at Civista Medical Center, La Plata. She was the wife of the late Fred Foss, who died in 2000.

Born Sept. 6, 1922, in Belsprings, Va., she was a daughter of the late Frank and Maude Thomas.

After retirement from the D.C. government, she spent her time gardening, being a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is survived by two daughters, Nancy and husband, Dr. Gene Camp, of Frederick, and Rosa Knox of La Plata; one son, Jack and wife, Joyce Baker, of La Plata; one brother, Frank Thomas; one sister, Gertrude Simpson; seven grandchildren, Scott, Tina, Kim, Jeff, Frank, Tracy and Samantha; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Phyllis Baker.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. with services at 7 p.m. Friday, April 17, at Arehart Echols Funeral Home, 211 St. Mary's Ave., La Plata.

Interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 18, at Brownsville Heights cemetery at Brownsville Church of the Brethren, Brownsville.
