Mr. Samuel Poole Jr.

Mr. Samuel T. Poole Jr., 62, of Falling Waters, W.Va., died unexpectedly Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Born Feb. 25, 1947, in Frederick, he was the son of Thelma E. Poole of Frederick and the late Samuel T. Poole Sr.

Mr. Poole entered the U.S. Marine Corps immediately after graduating high school and served in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1971 and remained an active former Marine for the rest of his life. Mr. Poole was a member of the Marine Corps League and American Legion Post 14 in Martinsburg, W.Va.

In addition to his mother, Mr. Poole is survived by two sisters, Sandra L. Poole and Carol Elaine Putman and husband, Ronnie; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund, 825 College Blvd., Suite 102, PMB 609, Oceanside, CA 92057 (www.semperfifund.org).

Arrangements are by Resthaven Funeral Services, Skkot Cody, P.A., Frederick.

Mrs. Constance Schooley

Mrs. Constance L. Schooley, 56, of Germantown, died Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville. She was the wife of Allen K. Schooley.

Born April 12, 1953, in Rockingham, Vt., she was a daughter of the late Walter and Anna Francis.

Connie served in the U.S. Army, and was employed as an electronic assembler with Hughes Network in Germantown for 25 years.

She was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1582 in Brunswick and a member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge 123 in Gaithersburg.

Surviving besides her husband are son, Wayne A. Cunningham of Kentucky; stepson, Aaron Schooley of California; grandson, Brandon Cunningham of Kentucky; sister, Helen Ann Rehfuss of Florida; and two brothers, Brian Francis and Craig Francis, both of Florida; a very dear friend, Janet Kendall of Damascus; the Bergetts and P4FF families and numerous other friends and relatives.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 19, at Molesworth-Williams, P.A., Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, April 20, at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will follow in All Souls cemetery, Germantown.

Mrs. Emma Linthicum

Mrs. Emma Musser Linthicum, 82, of Middleburg, died peacefully Thursday, April 16, 2009, at the Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster.

Born Aug. 31, 1926, in Germantown, she was the daughter of the late Henry Marcellus and Mary Elizabeth (Gartner) Musser. She was predeceased by her husband of 33 years, Robert William Linthicum in 1977.

Emma was a communicant of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Taneytown. She was a retired farmer, and enjoyed her family and trips to Charlestown.

Surviving are sons, Dr. William R. Linthicum, and wife, Loretta, of Taneytown, George H. Linthicum and wife, Deborah, of Montana, John C. Linthicum of Taneytown, Joseph A. Linthicum and wife, Karen, of New Windsor, Michael A. Linthicum and wife, Patricia, of Taneytown; daughters, Mary E. Ridenour and husband, Edward, of Taneytown, Margaret L. Olive and husband, John, of Alabama, Rebecca J. Littrell of Taneytown; 27 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; siblings, Leah Collins of Boyds, Janet Musser of Germantown, Charles Musser Sr., of Gaithersburg, and Lawrence Musser Sr., of Gaithersburg.

She was predeceased by siblings, Elizabeth Jacobs, Margaret Kelly, Frances Hiser, Henry, Thomas, Robert, and Ernest Musser.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, April 20, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Taneytown, with Msgr. Martin E. Feild as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Catholic cemetery in Taneytown. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, where Rosary Prayers will be recited at 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in her name to either, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 44 Frederick St., Taneytown, MD 21787, or to the charity of one's choice.

Mr. George Louis Hayhoe

Mr. George Louis Hayhoe, 87, of Gaithersburg, died Thursday evening, April 16, 2009, at Homewood at Crumland Farms, Frederick. He was the husband of the late Faye Mary Katherine Parrish Hayhoe, who preceded him in death on March 23, 2008.

Born Jan. 11, 1922, in Washington, he was a son of the late Walter Louis and Ethel C. Hayhoe. He was a World War II Army veteran.

Mr. Hayhoe was formerly a member of Takoma Park Road Runners, a camping club that he enjoyed with his wife and family. Additionally, he enjoyed tending his vegetable garden, fishing and hunting and his family.

He is survived by four daughters, Brenda L. O'Donnell and husband, Rick, of Frederick, Debra A. Dodd and husband, Mike, of Adamstown, Susan M. Thompson and husband, Dick, of Monrovia, and Ginny D. Deckelbaum and husband, Mike, of Cumberland; eleven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Walter and Paul Hayhoe.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 22, at Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at 1:30 p.m. in Fort Lincoln cemetery, Bladensburg Road, Brentwood. The Rev. John T. Gilbert III will officiate. Those attending should gather inside the main gate to process as a group to the gravesite.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Hayhoe's name to The Willows at Crumland Farms, 7407 Willow Road, Frederick, MD 21702. Contributions will benefit the Alzheimer's residents at the facility.

Mr. Paul Matthew Gaither

Paul Matthew "Matt" Gaither, 31, of Knoxville, Md., died Thursday, April 16, 2009, in Nashville, Tenn. He was the husband of Takako E. Gaither.

He was born July 25, 1977, in Maryland, a son of Paul and Susie Gaither. He graduated from Brunswick High School, Frostburg State University and the University of Maryland, Baltimore School of Law.

He is survived by his wife, Takako E. Gaither; parents, Paul and Susie Gaither, all of Knoxville, Md.; and brother, Michael Gaither of North Carolina. He is also survived by his maternal grandmother, Elsie Lucas; and paternal grandparents, Delphey and Betty Gaither, all of Brunswick. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Bo Lucas.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, at New Hope United Methodist Church, 7 S. Maryland Ave., Brunswick. There will be no viewing.

Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. George E. Earle Jr.

Arrangements are by John T. Williams Funeral Home, Brunswick.

Mr. C. Lee Crabill

C. Lee Crabill, 75, of Frederick, died Thursday, April 16, 2009, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Born Dec. 31, 1933, in Gaithersburg, he was the son of the late Collieta Leon (Skeets) and Mabel Emma Becker Crabill.

Mr. Crabill lived most of his life in Wheaton, until moving to Frederick in the early 1990s. He was a longtime member of the Kensington Volunteer Fire Department and worked for the B&O; Railroad out of Washington. He further worked as a auto mechanic for Montgomery Ward in Wheaton until his retirement. He loved spending time at Culler Lake feeding the ducks and was a avid NASCAR fan. Richard Petty was his favorite driver.

Lee leaves behind his wife, Shirley; his children: daughter, April Early and husband, Tony, of Dallas, Texas, son, David Crabill of Hermann, Mo., daughter, Patricia Crabill of Frederick; grandchildren, Lori Williams, Justin and Elizabeth Lowe, Taylor Crabill, Taylor Wilkinson, Brandon Hubbard; and six great-grandchildren. Mr. Crabill is additionally survived by his sister, Mabel Richardson and husband, Wayne, of Summerville, S.C.; brother, Noah Crabill and wife, Linda, of Hernando, Miss.; sister-in-law, Beverly Harman and husband, Harold, of Rockville; brother-in-law, George Overholtzer Jr. and wife, Darlene, of Frederick; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation with family will be held from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, at Keeney and Basford, P.A., Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 22, from the funeral home. Rev. Charles G. Beekley will officiate. Interment will be at the George Washington cemetery, Adelphi.

If desired, donations may be made to the Frederick County Humane Society, 5712-D Industry Lane, Frederick, MD 21704.

Mr. Leonard Holcomb Jr.

Leonard "Hawk" Holcomb Jr., 83, of Romney, W.Va., died Thursday, April 16, 2009, at his residence.

He was born Oct. 14, 1925, in Mill Creek, Okla., the son of the late Leonard and Mabel (Moss) Holcomb Sr.

Mr. Holcomb retired as senior fuel and ash foreman from Potomac Edison Power Plant in Dickerson after 39 years of service.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a watertender 2C SV6 on the USS Fremont. He was a member of the VFW Wappocomo Post 1101 and the American Legion Hampshire Post 91, Romney. Mr. Holcomb was a lifetime member of the Masons' Columbia Lodge 285 A.F. & A.M., Arlington, Va.

Mr. Holcomb is survived by his wife of 64 years, Helen Esther (Burgess) Holcomb; one son, Michael Lee Holcomb and wife, Pamela, of Frederick; four daughters, Jo Ann Brooks and husband, Raymond, of Shepherdstown, W.Va., Judy Mae Holcomb-Chavez of Arlington, Va., Toby Rae Rhodes and husband, Ralph, of Frederick and Carolyn L. Counsellor and fianc?, John Kevin Bigelow, of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; two brothers, James Holcomb of Reno, Nev., and Edgar Holcomb of Avon, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Joy Foster and husband, Craig, Kenny Brooks, Tracy Moore, Curtis and Chad Fisk, Katie, Kristen, Nikki and Josh Holcomb; four great-grandchildren, Dakota Harrison, Chance Moore, Cierra and Chase Brooks; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Holcomb will be taken to Hilton Funeral Home, Barnesville, where family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 21. A Masonic service will take place at that time.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 22, at Hilton Funeral Home, Barnesville, with preacher Paul Rennick officiating.

Interment will be at Monocacy cemetery, Barnesville, with military graveside rites.

Arrangements are by Shaffer Funeral Home Inc., Romney, W.Va., and Hilton Funeral Home, Barnesville.

Mr. George Wolf

George R. Wolf, of Easton, died Friday, April 10, 2009. He was 73 years old.

Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., on March 20, 1936, he was the son of the late George S. and Ethel Hollihan Wolf.

Mr. Wolf was married March 22, 1958, to Nancy Blush Wolf.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years; his daughter, Cindy Wolf-Garton (Mark) of New Market; his son, Douglas Wolf (Traci) of Glen Burnie; his son, Kevin Wolf (Lisa) of Brookville; his daughter, Stefani Shuster (Mike) of New Market; one brother, Richard Wolf of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and six grandchildren, Erica and Bryan Wolf, Scott and Jillian Johnson and Jenna and Steven Shuster.

Mr. Wolf was preceded in death by two brothers, James Wolf and Raymond Wolf.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 16, at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., Easton. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, in remembrance of George R. Wolf, 6931 Arlington Road, Bethesda, MD 20814 or by visiting CFF.org.

Arrangements are by Fellows, Helfenbein and Newman Funeral Home.

Mrs. Audrey Goodman

Mrs. Audrey Lee Ellis Goodman, 86, of Frederick, died Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Jack Hoke Goodman, who died in 1975.

Born Dec. 12, 1922, in Eure, N.C., she was youngest of 10 children born to the late James Melvin and Nanny Blanche Matthews Ellis. She is the last of her siblings.

After raising her children, she worked for Sears, Roebuck and Co. for 10 years. She enjoyed reading westerns and doing crossword puzzles.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Frederick and Frederick Chapter 79, Order of the Eastern Star.

Surviving are two daughters, Helen Mimsie Goodman and Nancy Lee Goodman; and a beloved granddaughter, Helen Lee Ann Goodman. She will be especially missed by a special nephew, Wayne Larsen and wife, Linda, of Memphis, Miss.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 18, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick where Eastern Star services will begin at 1 p.m. followed by funeral services officiated by Pastor Burniss Barrett. Graveside services will be at a later date in Clustered Spires cemetery, Frederick.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Goodman's name should be made to the Frederick Chapter 79 O.E.S., Attn: Heart Fund, c/o Jacqueline Fox, 101 Deerfield Place, Frederick, MD 21702.

Mrs. Ruth Conaway

Mrs. Ruth Louise Fleming Conaway, 95, of Woodbine, died Thursday, April 16, 2009, at Lorien Nursing Home in Mount Airy, where she had resided for three and one-half years.

Born Sept. 21, 1913, in Woodbine, she was the daughter of the late Charles A. and Josephine Sellman Fleming. She was the wife of Raymond N. "Bud" Conaway, who died in 1992, after 57 years of marriage.

She was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church, and before her health declined, was an active member of the Winfield Community Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and the Ebenezer Owls. She was a homemaker, enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, raising her family and being with her siblings and friends.

Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Harry Franklin of Mount Airy; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Connie Conaway of Albuquerque, N.M., Raymond and Linda Conaway of Westminster, and Robert and Pat Conaway of Mocksville, N.C. She is also survived by grandchildren and spouses, Karen Franklin, Mark and Tammy Franklin, Kevin and Becky Franklin, Christina and Christopher Tucker, Michele and Darren Hayden, Shannon and Bob Cucci, Ryan and Jennifer Conaway, Brant and Heidi Conaway; step-grandchildren and spouses, Jessica and Will Morataya, Christopher and Colby Tetlow; step-grandsons, Adam Granic, Paul and Chris Giordano; and step-granddaughter, Jill Lawson; 13 great-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.

From a family of twelve children, seven of which survived to adulthood, she is the last surviving member of her family. She was preceded in death by brothers, Walter, Wilbur, Roscoe, and Floyd Fleming, and sisters, Edith Gartrell and Grace Dorsey; and great-grandson, Parker Tucker.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 20, at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield, with the Rev. O.F. "Bud" Kibbe, a Methodist clergyman, officiating. Interment will be in Ebenezer United Methodist Church cemetery, Winfield. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home. A service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. by the Winfield Ladies Auxiliary.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ladies Auxiliary of the Winfield Community Volunteer Fire Department, 1320 W. Old Liberty Road, Sykesville, MD 21784.
