Mrs. Anna Marie Brown

Mrs. Anna Marie Brown, 63, of Frederick, passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2009. She was the loving wife of George Brown.

Born March 31, 1946, in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late William J. And Christina A. Onley.

Anna was a member of the Pleasant View United Methodist Church. She was very active in her church where she served as an usher, secretary, treasurer and communion steward.

She was a systems analyst with GEICO in Chevy Chase for 38 years.

She loved her church, spending time with her family and she was an avid reader.

In addition to her husband, George, she is survived by her three sisters, Helen Sewell and husband, David, of Frederick, Keena M. Moore of Frederick and Dianne Onley of Point of Rocks; two brothers, James Onley and friend, Anna, of Hagerstown, and Kevin Onley and wife, Judy, of Knoxville; mother-in-law, Fern Brown; brothers and sisters-in-law, Margaret L. Lee, Robert F. Brown and wife, Marie, Harold E. Brown and wife, Freda, James V.G. Brown and wife, Annette, Ronald S. Brown, Mildred Diane Thompson, Angela I. Brown and Donald K. Brown and wife, Mia, all of Frederick; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

She will also be remembered by all of her special friends from church and GEICO.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Keith J. Onley, and father-in-law, George F. Brown.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 28, at Maranatha Church of God, 123 Byte Drive, Frederick; the family will be present to receive friends one hour prior. Pastor Thomas Cook will officiate.

Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Pleasant View UMC, 1865 Pleasant View Road, Adamstown, MD 21710.

Arrangements are by Stauffer Funeral Home, Frederick.

Mrs. Margaret "Peggy" Burkholder

Mrs. Margaret Frances "Peggy" Burkholder, of Frederick, passed away Friday, April 24, 2009, at Kline Hospice House, Frederick.

Born on April 7, 1925, in Athens, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Robert Martin and Elizabeth Hill Martin. She was the wife of the late Roger W. Burkholder Sr.

Mrs. Burkholder was a longtime member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Frederick. She and her husband owned and operated Roger's Restaurant on North Market Street a number of years ago. In addition, she was at one time employed by American Optical. She spent most of her time taking care of her children as a homemaker.

In later years, she enjoyed taking the bus to go shopping and getting her hair done. Peggy was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Unit 11, as well as a member of the Francis Scott Key American Legion. She will be fondly remembered by her many friends at Taney Village, where she resided for 20 years.

Surviving are her two daughters, Mrs. Doris K. Twentey and her husband, Peter, of Thurmont, and Mrs. Sandra L. Saylor and her husband, Brian, of Johnsville. She is also survived by grandchildren, Troy Twentey, Shannon Floyd, Karen Smith, Brittany Tetlow, Zachary Saylor and Jacob Saylor; as well as great-grandchildren, Wesley Van Fleet, Tyler Brown, Lauren Kate Brake and Cole Brake. Peggy will also be missed by a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Roger W. Burkholder Jr., and was the last of her immediate family.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, April 27, at Keeney and Basford, P.A., Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, in Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. The Rev. Anjel Scarborough will officiate. Interment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

Mr. Albert Thobois

Mr. Albert Eugene Thobois, 93, of New Market, died Sunday, April 19, 2009, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was husband of Martha Louise Petran Thobois, who he married on Dec. 26, 1936, and predeceased him on March 10, 2000.

Born on June 6, 1915, in Four States, W.Va., he was the son of the late Clement Theophile Eugene and Ida Angeline Bouillet Thobois. In his younger years, he worked as a coal miner in West Virginia, as a construction worker for Gunite Construction Co. and retired as vice president of Moeller Pools Inc., which built pools in Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia. Albert enjoyed making home and auto repairs; reading, crossword puzzles, art and drawing; and was an accomplished woodworker, maker of many things including deacon benches, collapsible baskets, cars, picture frames, clocks and doll houses.

Surviving are two daughters, Carol Jean Frank and husband, John Ray, and Deborah Louise Mount and husband, John William, all of New Market; four granddaughters, Joan Carol Frank and husband, John Bartell, Julie Beth Frank and husband, Michael "Mick" Montague, Erin Lindsay Frank and fianc?, Zak Wolfe, and Tracey Anne Landers; two great-grandchildren, Jaclyn "Jackie" Bartell and Sage Wolfe; nieces, Thelma Kees and daughter, Sharon Kees, and family, Katie Jordan and husband, James, and family; nephew, Richard Petran and wife, Susan; cousins, Max and Alma Bouillet, Frances and Patsy Thobois; as well as special friends and neighbors, the Benjamin Keller family and the Jerry Fouche family.

Mr. Thobois was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jenna Bartell, and a sister, Fernande "Fernie" Margaret Osborne.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 23, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 24, at the funeral home. The Rev. Richard Baker, of Mount Zion United Methodist Church, will officiate.

Interment will take place in Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

Mr. Wendell Duff

Wendell Nusbaum "WD" Duff, 85, of Buckingham's Choice Retirement Community, Adamstown, died Saturday, April 18, 2009, at Frederick Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.

Born in 1923 in Uniontown, he was the son of the late Pearl Starr and Rockward Nusbaum and was one of 10 siblings. He was the husband of Edith Lewis Duff, his wife of 61 years, who he married on June 28, 1947.

He was a 1942 graduate of Elmer Wolfe High School, Union Bridge, where he was the president of his senior class. Following graduation, Wendell joined the U.S. Army Air Corps and in 1944 was transferred to the 558th Field Artillery Battalion, which was attached to Gen. George Patton's Third Army during World War II. He was discharged as a sergeant.

In 1949 he and his wife started "Signs by Duff" in Mount Rainier, which is now Duff Signs Inc., located in Beltsville and is owned and operated by his son, Richard Duff and wife, Loretta. Wendell and his family lived in Burtonsville for 35 years.

He was president of Visual Advertising Association of Washington, D.C.; president and lifetime member of PTSA; member and secretary of the Society of Civitan Club of Hyattsville; member of Iron Bridge Hunt Club of Burtonsville; and president of Methodist Men of Mount Rainier United Methodist Church. He was very involved in church and school activities. Above all, he was an enthusiastic and inspirational leader of every organization in which he was involved.

Wendell had a driven passion for building unique play areas, for both his children and grandchildren, made mostly from discovered relics found at the local junk yard. His kids, along with nephews, nieces and most of the neighborhood children were often encouraged, but most times "enlisted" to help build these wonderful creations.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Mark Robinson of Santa Monica, Calif.; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Marion Duff of Linganore, Russell and Gail Duff of Urbana, Richard and Loretta Duff of West Friendship, Donald and Deanna Duff of Gaithersburg; 12 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and a sister, Mabel Mahanes of Westminster.

He was predeceased by brothers, Neurow, Rockward, Leland, Patrick and Roger Nusbaum; and sisters, Thelma Hartzler, Mary Brightwell and Jeannette Leahy.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 25, in the Multipurpose Room at Buckingham's Choice, 3200 Baker Circle, Adamstown. Private inurnment will be in Pipe Creek cemetery, near Linwood.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Buckingham's Choice Assistance Fund or Buckingham's Choice Worship Music Fund, 3200 Baker Circle, Adamstown, MD 21710.

Infant William Whitehurst

William Cooper Whitehurst, after 4 months and 28 days, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2009, in Brunswick. William was born Nov. 18, 2008, in Reston, Va.

He is survived by his mother, Susan Brantley Whitehurst Osborne of Brunswick; his father, W. David Hutting Jr. of Gainesville, Va.; two brothers, Daegan Alexander Osborne and Nathaniel Christian Osborne; twin sister, Emma-Lee Sage Whitehurst; maternal grandparents, James and Susan Whitehurst of Hillsboro; paternal grandparents, Dave and Mary Hutting of Chelsea, Mich.; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, at Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Circle SE, Leesburg, Va. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 22, at St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church, 37730 Saint Francis Court, Purcellville, Va., with Father Ronald S. Escalante officiating.

Interment will follow in Hillsboro cemetery, Hillsboro, Va.

Mrs. Hulda Holter

Mrs. Hulda Emmaline Holter, 94, of Jefferson, died Monday, April 20, 2009, at Citizens Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Frederick. She was predeceased by her first husband, Clark C. Moser in 1946 and her second husband, John D. Holter in 1978.

Born in Galax, Va., she was a daughter of the late Lemuel and Caroline Elizabeth Mabe Frost and was also the last of her immediate family. She retired from the Frederick County school system as cafeteria manager at Middletown Elementary School. She was a member of the Pleasant View Church of the Brethren, Jefferson for more than 80 years and was a lifetime deacon.

She was a very active member at Pleasant View where taught in the children's department of the Sunday school; was director of the Sunday school for many years; children's director for many years; served as church clerk; directed vacation bible school and also cooked at Camp Piniel, a church camp near Thurmont and was active in the women's fellowship of the church serving in many offices. She also attended church at Tranquility of Fredericktowne where she had resided for five years.

She was a world traveler and was involved in many charitable organizations and has also volunteered at Valley Elementary School. She sponsored children with the Christian Children Fund and met one of her sponsored children in Africa.

She is survived by one son, Glenn E. Moser and wife, Shirley, of Middletown; one daughter, Alma E. Dade and husband, Stanley, of Jefferson; another daughter-in-law, Marie Moser of Palm Coast, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Ken Moser and wife, Becky, Bill Moser and wife, Missy, Ann Beauchamp and husband, Ed, Dennis Moser and wife, Sheri, Danny Moser and wife, Pam, Julie Reynolds and husband, James, Kathy Stowers and husband, Tom, Jamelyn Snoots and friend, Jeremy Davis; two step-grandchildren, Joe Dade and Vickie Dade; 16 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a son, Clark William "Bill" Moser in 2003; a son-in-law, James Snoots; and a granddaughter, Jamie Snoots.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 23, at Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, April 24, from Pleasant View Church of the Brethren, Jefferson. Rev. Tim May will officiate. Interment will be made in the church cemetery.

Miss Michele Burke

Michele Lynn Burke, "Pixie," 49, of Little Antietam, Smithsburg, went to be the with Lord on Tuesday, April 21, 2009.

She was the daughter of the Ella Maebelle and Samuel W. Breckenridge of Frederick.

She leaves behind a sister, Tamara and husband, Greg Copeland, of Frederick; brothers, Samuel W. and wife, Linda Breckenridge, of Everett, Pa., and Daniel and wife, Samme Johnson, of Bowie; grandfather, Harry Murphy; friend, Ruth Holt of Frederick; aunt, Linda and husband, James Mock, of Frederick; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ella Breckenridge and grandmother, Ella Murphy.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 27, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, with The Rev. Jerry Price officiating. The family will be present to receive friends one hour prior.

Interment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery.

Arrangements are by Stauffer Funeral Home, Frederick.

Mrs. Mary Brant

Mrs. Mary "Ginger/Gabby" Elizabeth Brant, 56, of Walkersville, formerly of Frederick, went into the arms of the Lord on Tuesday, April 21, 2009. She was the beloved wife of John Henry Brant Jr. for 35 years. She was born at her home in Carroll County on Nov. 26, 1952, to the late John Henry Ford Eckenrode and Bessie Mae Eckenrode.

She was a CAN for 27 years before having to quit because of her health. She loved music and dancing and loved all of her family very dearly.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Kimberly Horner and husband, James, and Malinda Brant, all of Walkersville; sister, Peggy Koons and husband, Robert, of Taneytown; brother, Kenneth Eckenrode and wife, of Washington state; nephews, Kevin Koons and wife, Lisa, and Brian Koons and wife, Tonya; nieces, Michelle Koons and fianc?e, Thomas, and Amber Eckenrode; grandchildren, Cain and Hunter Wallace, Dustin Shoemaker, Breanna and Renee Carroll, Dustin Holt, and Kylee and Daniel Wiles Jr.

She had a big heart and took people under her wing. Four special women were close enough to be daughters to her and had grandkids also to love, Linda Wallace and husband, Nathan, of Hagerstown, Crystal Misner and husband, James, of Bruns-wick, Tammy Trimmer of Walkersville, and Brandy Wiles and husband, Daniel, of Frederick.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 25, at Dickerson United Methodist Church, 20331 Dickerson Church Road, Dickerson.

Mr. Charles Norris

Mr. Charles F. Norris, 68, of Sterling, Va., passed away Saturday, April 18, 2009. He was the son of the late Charles and Myrie Norris of Middletown.

Surviving are his wife Susan; and three children, Bridget and husband, Mike, of Chesapeake, Va., Matt and wife, Robyn, of Sterling, and Virginia and Mark of Spokane, Wash.

He is also survived by three grandsons, Zachary, Landon and Shane; and one granddaughter, Rylan.

Surviving siblings are Leo and wife, Maryann, of Hagerstown, Edgar and wife, Diane, of Middletown, Elizabeth Marshall and husband, Ray, of Spokane, Wash., Ruth Haller and husband, Charlie, of Frederick, and Clara Bart and husband, Joe, of Walkersville. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Memorial services will be held Sunday, April 26, at St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Sterling, Va. Interment will be private.

Mrs. Patricia Salerno

Mrs. Patricia M. Salerno, 82, of Walkersville, died Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at Frederick Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Mrs. Salerno was born in Staten Island, N.Y., and had lived in New Jersey and Hawaii before moving to Walkersville 30 years ago. Mrs. Salerno was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ruth Ford; brothers, Richard Ford and Jon Ford; and sisters, Frances Bisignano and Christine Reguero. Also preceding Mrs. Salerno in death were her in-laws, Giuseppe and Caroline Salerno, whom Mrs. Salerno cared for.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Sal; son, Steve and wife, Geri, of Charleston, W.Va.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Bill Ford of Michigan; sisters, Jeanne Rost of Pennsylvania, Marian (John) Nistad of Pennsylvania, Barbara Patten of New Jersey, Ruth Thomason of New York, Nancy Veniscofski of New Jersey and Linda Ford of New York.

Family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 25, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 40 Fulton Ave., Walkersville. Interment will be private.

Mr. Jamie T. White Sr.

On June 7, 1981, God smiled down on Harsh (Pee Wee) White and Debra (Deb) Colts, and blessed them with a beautiful son, Jamie T. White Sr. (J-Dub). Jamie was a joyful, happy and loving person with a smile that was so bright it could light up any room. Jamie was educated in the Frederick County Public School system. He was employed by ABS Sales. He loved polishing granite. Jamie was from a large extended family and enjoyed being with them. He loved his parents and treasured every moment spent with his children, brothers and sisters.

He loved pets, fishing, being with friends and taking his kids out. Anything to do with his kids made him happy.

Jamie made his transition on Wednesday, April 15, 2009.

His loving memory will be cherished by his parents, Debra (Deb) Colts and Harsh (Pee Wee) White; stepmother, Elaine White; six children, Jamie Jr., Jarell, Ja'harah, Penelope, Thurston and Valerie White; sister, Stephanie and husband, John Castillo; brother, Domonique White; good friend, Chris Kruger; and grandparent, Louise White.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 28, at Gary L. Rollins Funeral Home, 110 W. South St., Frederick. Viewing will begin at 10 a.m. The wake will begin at 11 a.m. followed by funeral services at noon.
