Mr. Ronald Ambush

Mr. Ronald Eugene Ambush, 51, formerly of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2009, in Baltimore. He was the son of the late Leonard Ambush and the late Bessie Tyler-Zeigler.

Surviving are three brothers, David Ambush, Johnnie Ambush and Wayne Zeigler; four sisters, Melissa, Dorothy, Cheryl and Teresa Zeigler; one sister-in-law, Artrell Ambush; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Joanne Dorsey; and brother, Ulysses Zeigler Jr.

A public viewing followed by services will be held Saturday, April 25, at St. Abraham Baptist Church, 1124 W. North Ave., Baltimore. The viewing will be from 11 to 11:30 a.m., with services at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be private.

Arrangements are by William C. Brown Community Funeral Homes, P.A., Baltimore; 410-728-8422.

Mrs. Wanda Rife

Mrs. Wanda C. Rife, 46, of Brunswick, passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at Kline Hospice House. She was the wife of Raymond Rife III.

Born May 3, 1962, in Frederick, she was the daughter of Janice Linton of Knoxville and her husband, the late Kenneth Linton, and her stepfather, Richard Stocks of Brunswick.

She was employed with AOPA in Frederick and a part-time employee at the Moose Lodge in Brunswick.

She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Moose Lodge, the Eagles and the American Legion, all in Brunswick.

She enjoyed playing the banjo, her koi fish pond, her bonsai trees and collecting snow globes.

She is also survived by her two boys, Raymond Rife IV and Russell Rife, both of Brunswick; two brothers, Dale Stocks and John Funk; and two sisters, Pamela Dixon and Gale Jackson. She will also be remembered by her numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and all of her special friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 25, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100 N. Maple Ave., Brunswick. The family will be present to receive friends one hour prior to service time.

Interment will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to her sons, Raymond and Russell Rife, 109 W. B. St., Brunswick, MD 21716.

Mrs. Edna Pryor

Edna Louise Pryor, 90, of Fahrney-Keedy Home, Boonsboro, died Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at Washington County Hospital.

She was born April 11, 1919, in Myersville, and was the daughter of the late Roy Wade and Maudie Bell Blickenstaff Grossnickle.

Edna was the wife of Maurice Samuel Pryor, who preceded her in death in 1999.

She was a lifelong member of The Grossnickle Church of the Brethren, Myersville. She retired in 1980 after 10 years as cafeteria manager at Hagerstown Community College, and was more recently the vice president of Pryor Mechanical Inc., Myersville.

Edna enjoyed quilting at Fahrney-Keedy and had made numerous quilts during the years she resided there. Edna was also a faithful volunteer at Fahrney-Keedy until her recent illness.

Surviving her are three daughters, Jane Wolfe and companion, Charles W. Baker Jr., of Smithsburg, Barbara Leiboldt and husband, Jim, of Boonsboro and Joyce Parker and husband, Larry, of Davenport, Fla.; two sons, Richard Pryor and wife, Beth, of Smithsburg and Gary Pryor and wife, Cynthia, of Sperryville, Va.; one sister, Sara Wilson of Camp Hill, Pa.; one brother, Abe Grossnickle of Hagerstown; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by four sisters, Beulah Grossnickle, Ruth Rowland, Mae Wolfe and Vada Bussard; and three brothers, Cyrus, Joe and Clyde Grossnickle.

Funeral services will began at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 25, at The Grossnickle Church of the Brethren, 11318 Meeting House Road, Myersville. Pastors Tim and Donna Ritchey-Martin will officiate.

Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 24, at Ricketts Funeral Home, 504 Main St., Myersville.

Mrs. Gloria Bopst

Mrs. Gloria Swanson Bopst, 85, of Frederick, passed away Thursday, April 23, 2009, at her daughter's residence. She was the loving wife for 55 years to William M. Bopst Jr. until he passed away on Feb. 21, 2002. Born Oct. 27, 1923, in Kinston, N.C., Gloria was the daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Plouff) Carroll.

Gloria moved to Frederick in 1945, and was a Frederick County resident ever since. Gloria loved her family and always made sure that everyone was doing well. Part of making sure they were doing well meant cooking for her family. She loved her pets as though they were also her family. Gloria also loved her flowers. Another important part of her life was her friends at Kut and Kurls, where she caught up on all of the latest news.

Mrs. Bopst is survived by her daughter, Susan Bopst, and husband, John David Gastley III, of Frederick. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Arline Carroll of Hagerstown; and two special friends, Marion Lambert and former caregiver, Jessie Shoemaker. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Bickett, Charles, Spencer, Eugene and Lawrence Carroll, and Marian Elizabeth Whichard. Gloria is also survived by her dog, Cody, and cats, Spankey and Dusty. She was preceded in death by her other cat, Buckaroo.

Friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, April 26, at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, April 27, in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. Certified Lay Speaker Joyce Hall will officiate. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick. Contributions may be made in Gloria's name directly to the family.

Mrs. Rosalie Ebberts

Mrs. Rosalie Virginia Ebberts, 83, of Frederick, died Thursday, April 23, 2009, at Northampton Manor Healthcare Center. Born Sept. 7, 1925, in Lime Kiln, she was the daughter of the late Clarence E. Jewell and Bessie E. Tobery Jewell. She was the wife of the late John R. "Bud" Ebberts.

Mrs. Ebberts worked at Frederick Tailoring as well as Ebbert's Antique Shop on North Market Street. She had a special love for children and enjoyed baby-sitting at one time. Rosalie was especially fond of walking throughout downtown Frederick and through the parks. Mrs. Ebberts listened to country music and liked to go to carnivals seeing live performances. In later years, she enjoyed reading the newspaper and spending time with her many friends at Taney Village.

Rosalie is survived by her daughter, Sherry Kay Ebberts of Frederick; her brothers, Clarence E. Jewell Jr. and Charles H. Jewell of Frederick; and sisters, Dorothy Bowers of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Margaret L. Fox, Ruth Mauro and Lorraine Shores, all of Frederick. She will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as her many friends at Taney Village. She was preceded in death by her sister, Catherine Castle of Brunswick.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, April 26, at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 27, in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. The Rev. Robert E. Manthey will officiate. Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Mauro, Wayne Fox, Chip Jewell, Bob Small, Davey Shores and Bill DeLawter. Interment will be at Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

Mrs. Marge Ahalt

Mrs. Marge Ahalt, 76, passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2009, in Fairfax, Va.--She was born in Frederick County and lived in Urbana until marriage, then in Middletown most of her adult life. She moved to Leesburg, Va., in 1994, and had remained there ever since.--

She married the love of her life, Louis Ahalt (passed in 2002), in 1956, and enjoyed 461Ú2 wonderful years of blissful marriage with him. Marge is survived by three children, Louis (Ike) Ahalt and wife, Kathleen Ahalt, of Myersville, Bim Ahalt and Debbie Currier of Leesburg, Va.; twin sister, Nancy Smarr and husband, Clarence, of Palm Coast, Fla.; sister, Joanne LaCoste and husband, Gregory, of Frederick; and brother, Austin Stup Jr. and wife, Diane, of Stafford, Va.

She also is survived by three granddaughters who brought great joy to her life, Kaitlin and Rebecca Ahalt, and Margie Currier. She also leaves behind her dog, Maggie Rose. Her immediate and extended family worshipped her and loves her more than words could describe. She was the heart and soul of the entire family. Marge was a surrogate mother and grandmother to many. Some who were closest recently include Donna Somers, Ashley Marshall and Tara Sullivan. She was known as Mammy by all of her granddaughter's friends and made them feel loved, always welcome in her home and showed the current generation of youth what it really meant to be a grandmother. --

She was an amazing cook and there was no way possible of not eating when stepping into her home. Marge was a strong lover of the ocean, seashell hunting, birds, deer, driving, gardening, music, books and food.--She had a wonderful sense of humor and a smile and laugh that could light up a room. She remained young at heart her entire life.

She was a true gem. Love followed her anywhere she went. She never met a stranger and could always lift the spirits of her family and friends with her compassion and warm love. She was a tough old bird who was able to overcome many hardships, always with a positive attitude. Marge was the most generous human being most will meet in a lifetime, never putting herself before anyone. She has taken all of our hearts and touched the lives of many. This devoted sister, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend will never be forgotten. Eternal love.

Mrs. Ruth Watkins

Mrs. Ruth Naomi (Herring) Watkins, a 55-year resident of Howard County, died Friday, April 24, 2009.

She was the beloved wife of 52 years of the late Roland Eugene Watkins; loving mother of John Wayne Watkins and wife, Sandy, Richard Gary Watkins and wife, Olivia, Mark Douglas Watkins and wife, Jean, and Karen Naomi Watkins; cherished grandmother of Tim Watkins and wife, Lisa, Jason Watkins, Dennis Watkins, Adam Watkins, Matt Lewis, Nicholas Watkins and Amanda Watkins; great-grandmother of Morgan, Tyler, Megan and the late Emily Watkins.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, April 27, at Slack Funeral Home, P.A., 3871 Old Columbia Pike, Ellicott City. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 28, from the funeral home. Interment will be in Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Hazel Wilson

Hazel Marguerite Wilson, 80, of Hagerstown since 2005, and formerly of Brunswick, died at home on Friday, April 24, 2009.

Mrs. Wilson was born Oct. 1, 1928, in Lovettsville, Va., to the late Harry and Mary Reed Mainheart. Her husband, Robert Thomas Reed, also predeceased her. She was raised by her maternal grandmother Margaret Catherine Reed. Mrs. Wilson was a member of First Baptist Church in Brunswick.

Mrs. Wilson is survived by her son, Robert Clem Wilson of Hagerstown; one sister; two brothers; four grandchildren that she raised, Joyce Sprouse, Brandon Dickensheets, Sharaya Wilson and Robert Dickensheets; and three great-grandchildren, Peyton, Haylee and Lillian Sprouse.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 27, at Brown/Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 34 E. Broad Way, Lovettsville, Va. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 28, at the funeral home. Pastor Hubert L. Plummer will officiate.

Interment will be in Sample Manor cemetery, Sharpsburg.

Mrs. Cora Brown

Cora Wilson Brown, of Frederick, was called home on Saturday, April 25, 2009, at the age of 82. She was the daughter of the late William Henry and Clara Thomas Wilson, and the widow of Lawrence M. Brown Sr., her husband of 50 years.

Born on Dec. 2, 1926, she was well-known and respected throughout the city. She was heavily involved in the south-end community of Frederick. She worked in the administrative field at various companies, including the Government Employees Insurance Co. She was a lifelong member of Asbury United Methodist Church, and an honorary member of the Sisters of Joy Choir.

Mrs. Brown is survived by her children, Larry Brown and wife, Cheryl, of Frederick, Lawrence Brown Jr. and wife, Diane, of Newport News, Va., Terry Brown and wife, Natalie, of Frederick, and Joy Brown, also of Frederick; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Carlton Lee of Albany, Ga.; and many nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

She will be remembered as a loving friend, confidant, and mother figure to a host of many.

She leaves to mourn her death devoted friends, Edith Ann Fossett, Mildred Onley, Mary Watts, Eloise Robinson, Katherine Moore and Ruth Duckett, to name a few.

A public viewing will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 2, at Asbury United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon, followed by the funeral service. Interment is at Fairview cemetery.

Arrangements are by Gary L. Rollins Funeral Home, Frederick.

Mr. Larry Bell

Larry Wayne Bell, 65, of Inwood, went to be with the Lord Friday, April 24, 2009, at his home while under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.

Born April 17, 1944, in Berkeley County, he was the son of the late Ruth Bell.

He was retired from the United States Army, and had served two tours in Vietnam. He was also retired from Fort Detrick as a material handler.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn White Bell; two stepsons, Ricky Brandenburg of Hagerstown and Jeff Brandenburg and wife, Susan, of Kearneysville; a stepdaughter, Sherri Reynolds and husband, Wes, of Burlington, N.C.; two brothers, Richard Bell and Donald Bell and wife, Gerri, all of Martinsburg; seven sisters, Carolyn Myers of Gerrardstown, Frankie Myers of Martinsburg, JoAnn Cox and husband, Dave, of Martinsburg, Michelle Keefer and husband, Robert, of Pigeon Forge, Tenn., Suzette Bell of Martinsburg, Suzanne Burke of Martinsburg, and Beverly Stevenson of Gerrardstown; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a son, Jonathan Ryan Bell; a sister, Anna Pearl Davis; and a brother, Charles Eddie Bell.

Funeral services with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 29, at Brown Funeral Home South Berkeley Chapel, Inwood, W.Va., with Pastor Edward Myers officiating. Interment will be private.

Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, at the chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 122 Waverly Court, Martinsburg, WV 25403.

Mrs. Mildred Roby

Mildred Saraha Roby, 85, of Brunswick, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2009, at her residence.

She was born June 19, 1923, in Baltimore, the daughter of the late Martin Louis Bees and Elsie Eaton Bees.

She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Brunswick. She was a graduate of Mother Seaton High School. She also was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Aerie No. 1136 of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Women of the Moose Chapter No. 660, both of Brunswick.

She was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps and a member of the Marine Corps League.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, James F. Roby, at home; one daughter, Deborah Tamburri and husband, Greg, of Frederick; two sons, James F. Roby Jr. and wife, Sherry, of Germantown, and Robert W. Roby and wife, Mary, of Centerville; one sister, Dorothy Myers of Gambrills; one grandson, Nicholas J. Perry of Frederick; two granddaughters, Jennifer Jeffcoat of Branden, Fla., and Dana Tamburri of Frederick.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Frances Roby; one brother, John Bees; and one sister, Agnes Harris.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 1, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Brunswick. The Rev. Fr. George A. Limmer will serve as celebrant. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, in Arlington National cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 30, at John T. Williams Funeral Home, 100 Petersville Road, Brunswick. A Christian wake will be held at 7:30 p.m. For the convenience of the friends, the funeral home will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702.
