Mrs. T. Lucille Clark

Mrs. T. Lucille Clark, 89, of Frederick, died on Tuesday, April 28, 2009, at Northampton Manor Health Care Center. She was the wife of the late James Avery Clark Jr., who died on May 5, 1981.

She was born in Monrovia, on Aug. 2, 1919, a daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Mary Ann Dunn Norwood.

Mrs. Clark was a graduate of Frederick High School, Class of 1939, and had attended the Frederick Hospital School of Nursing. She was an active and life member of the Frederick Church of the Brethren and the Home Builders Sunday School Class. She also had taught Sunday School. She had raised and sold African Hound poodles and peacocks. She enjoyed sewing, ceramics and growing African violets.

Surviving are her three sons, James A. Clark III and wife, Virginia, Dwight Clark and Jeffrey Alan Clark Sr., and wife, Barbara, all of Frederick; four grandchildren, James Avery Clark IV, Michelle Clark Golden and husband, Douglas, Jeffrey Alan Clark Jr., and Justin Andrew Clark; one great-granddaughter, Madeline Golden; one sister, Mary Elizabeth Weddle, of Frederick; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, Benjamin Norwood and one sister, Kathryn Zimmerman.

Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 1, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 9 p.m., at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 2, from Frederick Church of the Brethren, 201 Fairview Ave. Rev. Dr. Paul Mundey, pastor of the church, will officiate. Interment will be in the Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, James Avery Clark IV, Jeffrey Alan Clark Jr., and Justin Andrew Clark, and Alan Zimmerman, Jay Zimmerman and Harold Martz. Online condolences may be shared with her family at KeeneyBasford.com.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Frederick Church of the Brethren, 201 Fairview Ave., Frederick, MD 21701.

Mrs. Phyllis Ann Wood

Mrs. Phyllis Ann Wood, 80, of Mount Airy, died Monday, April 27, 2009, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Dr. B.C. Wood, who died in 1993.

Born Jan. 26, 1929, in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Mary McAllister DeVasto. Phyllis was a homemaker and a fantastic cook. She especially enjoyed baking cookies for and spending time with her grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff at Glade Valley Center in Walkersville and Frederick Memorial Hospital for their wonderful care of Phyllis and compassion they show to her family and friends during the past several months.

Surviving are three children, Thomas P. Kelly of Mount Airy, Daniel J. Kelly and wife, Deissy, of Bayside, N.Y., and Claudia Wood of Flushing, N.Y.; eight grandchildren, Brian J. Kelly, Sean P. Kelly, Tommy A. Kelly, Megan N. Kelly, Danielle Kelly, Ryan Kelly, Daniel Kelly and Dillon Kelly. Mrs. Wood was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Schulman.

Funeral services will held Friday, April 30, at Hempstead Funeral Home in Hempstead, N.Y.

Interment will be in Pinelawn Memorial Park, Farmingdale, N.Y.

Mr. Jimmie Stemple

Mr. Jimmie Lee Stemple, 70, of Aurora, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 27, 2009, at his home. He was the husband of Elsie Miller Stemple, his wife of 30 years.

Born Feb. 14, 1939, in Aurora, W.Va., he was the son of the late Elmer and Mina (Wotring) Stemple.

Jimmie loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a huge WVU Mountaineer fan and he never met a stranger. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Rock (Margie) Stemple of Jefferson; daughter, Santa (Sam) Hsu of Frederick; step-daughter, Beverly (Dan) Fannelli of Germantown; two grandsons, Connor and Quinn Stemple; one granddaughter, Dakota Farr; five step-grandchildren, Michael, Christin and Matthew Fannelli and Bryan and Samantha Hsu; one sister, Petura (Phillip) Kristings of Yellow Springs; four nieces, Pamela Mrozinski, Sheryl Grossnickle, Laura Harwood and Rikki Jenkins; one aunt, Kathryn Harvey of Clarksburg, W.Va.; and one uncle, William Wotring of Arthurdale, W.Va.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 30, at Aurora Memorial Building. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 1, at Aurora United Methodist Church; Rev. Mary Radford will officiate.

Interment will follow in Aurora cemetery.

Arrangements are by Hinkle Funeral Home.

Ms. Karen Mocek-Jones

Ms. Karen I. Mocek-Jones, 56, of Frederick, died Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at the Edenton Retirement Community.

Born Feb. 26, 1953, in Norwich, Conn., she was a daughter of Edmund Mocek of Norwich, Conn., and the late Jane Aston Mocek.

Karen was a nurse and had been employed with Adventist Health Care at Potomac Ridge. She was a member of the Grace United Church of Christ in Frederick, and a volunteer with Sheltie Rescue and Therapeutic Riding at Silverado Stables. She enjoyed ballroom dancing and Volks March.

Surviving are her children, Sasha Mocek-Jones and fianc?, Tony Czeh, of Frederick, and Devin Mocek-Jones; two brothers, Karl Mocek and Terry Heap; and one sister, Christina Mather; and several nieces and nephews. She will also be remembered by many special friends.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 2, at the Grace United Church of Christ, 25 E. Second St., Frederick. The Rev. Dr. Joseph R. Foster, pastor of the church, will officiate. Interment will be private.

Arrangements are by Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Online condolences may be shared with the family at KeeneyBasford.com.

Mr. Jasper Lambert Jr.

Mr. Jasper "Jack" Lambert Jr., 55, of Mount Airy, died suddenly Wednesday, April 29, 2009.

He was the husband of Laura A. Lambert.

Born Jan. 18, 1954, he was the son of Edith Lambert of Poolesville, and the late Jasper T. Lambert Sr.

Jack was a retired captain and station manager at Station 30 for the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service.

Surviving besides his wife and mother are his children, Brian Lambert of Bethesda, and Evan Lambert of Mount Airy; one stepson, Justin Hopkins of Mount Airy; two sisters, Sherri Farr and husband, Donald, of Poolesville, and Catherine Angell and husband, Robert, of Brunswick; and three nieces, Karen Monroe, Angela Best and Kimberly Farr.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, May 3, at Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Road (Rt. 109), Barnesville, (hiltonfh.com) where funeral services will be held at 11 am. Monday, May 4.

Interment will be in Monocacy cemetery, Beallsville.

Mr. Robert Evans

Mr. Robert Evans, 93, of Mount Airy, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2009, at Gilquest Hospice in Towson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Harrington Evans in 1995.

Born Dec. 3, 1915, in Taylor, Pa., he was the son of the late Elizabeth (Jones) and George Evans. Robert served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army. He went on to be an administrative finance officer for the Department of HEW, retiring after 32 years of service.

A member for 55 years at the Oxon Hill United Methodist Church, Robert was a past commander for the American Legion Post #1 in Washington, a member of the American Legion in Clinton, and a member of the Seat Pleasant Masonic Lodge. He had been an active Kiwanis member. An avid golfer, Robert was one of the charter members of Tantallon Country Club.

Survivors include his son and devoted daughter-in-law, Wayne and Carol Evans of Mount Airy; his loving grandsons, Jason Evans and wife, Jennifer, of Mount Airy and Christopher Evans and wife, Nicole, of New Market; his great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Taylor, Isabella and Connor. He will also be remembered by a special niece, Jean Rusnak. Robert was preceded in death by a daughter, Beth Bea Evans; and his brothers, Raymond, George and Watkin; and sisters, Alice, Ruth, Mabel and Elizabeth.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mount Airy, where service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 4, with the Rev. Dennis Yocum officiating. Grave side services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, at Resurrection cemetery in Clinton, with the Rev. Sandy Taylor officiating.

Memorials may be made to Oxon Hill United Methodist Church, 6400 Livingston Road, Oxon Hill, MD 20745.

Mrs. Ida Wiegel

Ida Belle Wiegel, 91, of Orange Va., died Saturday, April 25, 2009, at her residence.

Born April 24, 1918, in Louisville, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Joseph Shafar and Inga Marie Pitzer Rhea. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Russell Wiegel Sr.

Mrs. Wiegel was a member of the Orange Baptist Church and a member of the First Baptist Church in Rockville. She was retired from National Geographic.

Survivors include two daughters, Marilynn Rhea Harrison and husband, Stuart, of Ijamsville, and Deborah Kay Wiegel of Orange, Va.; two sons, William "Bill" Wiegel Jr. of Hagerstown, David Laurin Wiegel and wife, Gwendolyn, of Frederick; five grandchildren, Craig S. and Brian J. Harrison, Merry Nicole Mathews, James Russell Wiegel and Gretchen Anne McMillin; and six great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, May 1, at Orange Baptist Church. The Rev. Rick Clore will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 30, at Preddy Funeral Home, Orange, Va. Interment will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 2, at Chapel at the Gate of Heaven cemetery, Silver Spring.

Mr. Daniel Reed

Daniel James "Dog" Reed, 54, of Riverdale Heights, died Saturday, April 25, 2009.

Mr. Reed is survived by his wife, Deborah A. Reed; son, Eric R. Reed and his wife, Leslie Narramore; daughter, Jillian I. (Sonnie) Hoffman; and grandson, Dominic J. Reed. Other survivors include his mother, Mary C. Reed; two sisters, Dorothy E. (Robert) O'Neal and Judith M. Reed; two brothers, Robert J. and Christopher M. Reed and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Paul D. Reed and sister, Irene E. Reed.

Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, at Gasch's Funeral Home, P.A., 4739 Baltimore Ave., Hyattsville, MD 20781.

Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 30, also at the funeral home. Interment will be private.

Mr. Richard Roberts

Mr. Richard Patrick Roberts, 73, of Frederick, died Monday, April 27, 2009, at his home. He was the husband of Lois Roberts. They were married for 10 years.

Born April 7, 1936 in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Emlen and Kathryn Priest Roberts.

Mr. Roberts retired after 36 years as supervisor of mailing operations for Geico Insurance. He was a member of the Owls Club in Frederick. He also loved hunting and fishing.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Kathryn Delaughter and husband, Steve, of Hagerstown; and Victoria O'Dell and husband, Donald, of Berkley Springs, W.Va.; and three step-daughters, Karen Wilcom and husband, Jay, of Frederick; Heather Lighty and husband, Tony, of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; and Candy Oehmig and husband, Dale, of York Springs, Pa.

Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, Chris O'Dell; Casey and Lexi Delaughter; Amber, Zach, and Maddie Wilcom; Hunter, Aislynne, Parker, and Reese Lighty; and Bailey and Landon Oehmig.

Mr. Roberts also will be remembered by his good friends, Bob Peddicord, John Wade, and Rich and Kathy Murphy, and his former wife, Deanna Roberts. He was predeceased by his brother, Ronald Roberts of Pennsylvania.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 30, at South End Baptist Church, 506 Carrollton Drive, Frederick. Officiating will be the Rev. J. Kenneth Stalls.

Interment will be private.

Mr. Harold O'Brien

Mr. Harold Paul O'Brien, 89, of Frederick, died Monday, April 27, 2009, at Citizens Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Frederick. He was the loving husband of the late Geraldine Goldsworthy O'Brien, who died in 1985.

Born in Eckhart on May 8, 1919, he was a son of the late Patrick and Laura Tharp O'Brien.

Mr. O'Brien proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Army and was involved in the European Theater Operations, North African Campaign, Invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded several medals including the Purple Heart and a Bronze Star.

He, at one time, was a corporal with the Maryland State Police serving in Frederick, before becoming an insurance agent and adjuster for more than 30 years with Harleysville Insurance Co., where he retired in 1983.

Mr. O'Brien was an active member of Saint John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, past member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 1442, a member of the Frederick Elks Lodge No. 684, the Maryland State Police Alumnae, and was a past vice-president of the Frederick County Literacy Council and from 1986 to 2006 was a member of the YMCA Senior Swimmers.

Surviving is one daughter, Joan K. O'Brien, of Catonsville; two grandchildren, Kieron Smallwood and husband, Dean, of Keedysville, and Michael O'Brien of Middletown; one great-granddaughter, Casey May Smallwood; and many nieces and nephews. He will also be remembered by a special longtime friend, Kathryn Jones of Frederick.

He was preceded in death by his son, Patrick O'Brien, in 1994; three brothers, Thomas, Joseph and Earl O'Brien; and three sisters, Veronica Winners, Lillian Wright and Kathleen Winebrenner.

The family wishes to extend a thank you to the staff and caregiver at Citizens for all their wonderful care given to Mr. O'Brien.

The family will receive from 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, April 29, at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, April 30, at St. Johns Catholic Church, 118 E. Second St., Frederick. Interment will be in the Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mark Bremer Memorial Fund, Fraternal Order of Police; FSK Lodge 91, P.O. Box 808, Frederick, MD 21705, ATTN: Charlie Snyder.
