Mrs. Margaret Reeder

Mrs. Margaret Pauline Reeder, 86, of Frederick, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2009, at the Golden Living Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Elmer M. Reeder, who passed away in 1999.

Born in Harper's Ferry, W.Va., on May 10, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Grace (Good) and Joseph Trussell Fritts. Margaret worked at the Frederick Tailoring Factory in Frederick for a number of years as a shaper.

A member of the Frederick Church of The Brethren, Margaret enjoyed the time she spent with her family and friends.

Survivors inclu; four grandchildren, Billy Jean Winpigler and husband, Bion, Tonya Lee Mason and husband, John, Curtis A. Stup, and Cheryl L. Turner and husband, Jon; her great-grandchildren, Chad Martin and wife, Georgia, Nikki Martin, Ryan Winpigler, Kylee Mason, Douglas Mason, Kelsey and Madison Turner; her brother, Eben M. Fritts; a sister-in-law, Stella Mae Fritts; and numerous nieces and nephews. Margaret was also preceded in death by a son, Ronald F. Miller; three sisters, Catherine Myers, Mildred Felegi and Jenny Cary; and two brothers, Franklin Fritts and Randolph Fritts.

The family will receive friends on at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 21 with pastors Brian Messler and Kevin Syes officiating. Burial will follow in the Edgehill cemetery in Charles Town, W.Va.

Memorials in Margaret's name may be made to the Frederick Church of the Brethren, 201 Fairview Avenue, Frederick, MD 21701 or to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702.

Mrs. Amy Webb-Best

Amy Renee Webb-Best, 23, of Knoxville, passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 16, 2009.

Born July 27, 1985, in Gaithersburg, she was the daughter of James and Joyce Webb of Boonesboro, and Donna and Gill Caniford of Knoxville. She leaves behind her husband, Alan Best, of Falling Waters, W.Va., and her three children, Arian and James Reynolds and Jaiddyn Ellis.

Also surviving are her brothers, Tim Cameron and his wife, Suzy, of Gaithersburg, and son, Tom; Jimmy Webb and wife, Jessie, of Keedysville, and children, Cody and Jeorjia; sisters, Crystal Carrett and husband, Alex, of Falling Waters, W.Va., and children Logan and Gracie; Tiffany Richard and husband, Roger, of Mount Airy, and children, Cassandra, Jacob and Natalie; grandparents, Gerald and Betty Hawkins of Falling Waters, W.Va., and Hugh and Shirley Webb of Gaithersburg.

Amy attended Brunswick High School. She loved her children, family and friends. Amy lived her life to the fullest.

Friends may visit 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, at the Muriel H. Barber Funeral Home, 21525 Laytonsville Road, (Md. Route 108) Laytonsville, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 21.

Internment at the Laytonsville cemetery.

Mrs. Mary Ruth Thorpe

Mrs. Mary Ruth Creger Thorpe, 79, of Monrovia, died early Saturday morning, May 16, 2009, at Lorien of Mount Airy. She was the wife of the late Charles Harry Thorpe who preceded her in death on Nov. 7, 1994.

Born May 13, 1930, in Monkton and raised in Thurmont, she was a daughter of the late Floyd Bascum and Marjorie Ann Harner Creger.

In addition to working as a telephone operator, Mrs. Thorpe worked for W. Bell and Best companies.

Surviving are seven children, Charles Wayne Thorpe and wife, Beth, of Michigan, John Douglas Thorpe and wife, Vicki, of Nevada, James Michael Thorpe and wife, Sandy, of Brunswick, William Allen Thorpe and wife, Doree, of Silver Spring, Barbara Jean Crowley and husband, Wayne, of Monrovia, Susan Denis Bailey of South Carolina, and Brenda Ann Thomas and husband, Sean, of Crofton; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; as well as siblings, Sarah Virginia Marshall of Woodsboro, Irene Tobery and husband, Gordon, of Westminster, and Ella Mae Kessel of Damascus; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Ann Atwell.

The Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, Damascus, is handling the arrangements. There will not be calling at the funeral home. Inurnment in the columbarium at Arlington National cemetery of Mr. and Mrs. Thorpe will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 1. Those attending should congregate at the administration building at the cemetery at 9:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to be made in Mrs. Thorpe's name to the American Heart Association, Memorials and Tributes, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058.

Infant William Thomas Elery

Infant William Thomas Elery, son of William T. Elery and Kristal D. Waller, died on Friday, May 15, 2009, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. Also surviving are siblings Laura N. Elery, Khadijah S. McCulloch, Ryann P. Elery; grandparents Thomas A. Elery, Margaret F. Elery and John Waller; aunts and uncles Kevin Tunnell, Kimberly Stone, John Waller, Lawrence, Michael, Marie and Michele Elery. He was preceded in death by grandmother Jerolyn Waller. Services are private.

Mr. Kenneth Smith

Kenneth Douglas Smith, 66, of Myersville, died Friday, May 15, 2009, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.

He was born March 7, 1943, in Frederick, and was the son of the late Guy Vernon and Mary Catherine Zimmerman Smith.

Kenny was a 1961 graduate of Brunswick High School, a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Myersville and a member of The Middletown Volunteer Fire Company. He was a dairy farmer in Middletown Valley most of his life, was an auctioneer throughout the area and most recently a milk tester for Dairy One.

Surviving is his daughter, Karen D. Smith of Myersville; and one brother, C. Vernon Smith and wife, Lucy M., of Middletown.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Eleanor M. Paugh.

Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 19, at Ricketts Funeral Home, Myersville, with Pastor David Howell officiating.

Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Church cemetery, Myersville.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 18, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Ricketts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 136, Myersville, MD 21773, to help defray the funeral expenses.

Mr. Kenneth Close Jr.

Kenneth Allen Close Jr., of Frederick, passed away suddenly Wednesday, May 13, 2009.

Born Aug. 23, 1982, in Frederick, he was the son of Kimberly Buffington of Kearneysville, W.Va., and the late Kenneth A. Close Sr. He was the stepson of David Lease Sr. He attended school in Frederick County and worked as a gutter installer. He loved golfing, video games, and his newborn baby daughter, Mackenzie Close.

In addition to his mother and his daughter, Kenny leaves behind his fianc?e, Erica Kieffer; two very special sisters, Nicole Close and fianc?, Timothy "Bud" Geisbert Sr. and Brandi Buffington and fianc?, Brian Donivan; a special brother, David Lease Jr.; his grandmother, Patsy "Mamaw" Webb; three aunts, Mary Mosher, Irene Farrell and husband, Eugene, and Dorothy Child; an uncle, Lawrence Close and wife, Joyce; nephews, Colin, Shane, Timothy Jr., Brian Jr., and Peyton; and nieces, Destiny and Jaylin; a special cousin, Bobby; his fianc?'s parents, James and Tina Kieffer; and many special friends and other relatives.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, at Chapel Mausoleum of Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 U.S. Route 15 N., Frederick. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 20.

Floral tributes are welcome, or contributions may be made to a trust account for Mackenzie Close (donation details available at the service).

Entombment will take place in the Chapel Mausoleum. Honorary pallbearers will be David Lease Sr., David Lease Jr., Tim Geisbert Sr., Colin Crosen, James Kieffer, Bobby Robey, Mark Durbin Jr., and Jason Cook.

Arrangements are by Resthaven Funeral Services, Skkot Cody, P.A., Frederick.

Ms. Margaret Fox

Ms. Margaret E. Fox, 92, of Frederick, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2009, at Citizen's Nursing Home.

Born March 7, 1917, in Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Leolin and Margaret Rouzer. She was a member of Moose Lodge No. 371; F.O.E., Erie No. 1067; and the Pythian Sisters, Mountain Temple 14. Margaret was a waitress, a cook, a cashier and a homemaker. She loved baking and dancing, and she loved cats.

She is survived by two daughters, Margrit E. Offutt and Helen E. Thompson; a son, Stephen M. Fox; a brother, Melvin Rouzer; a sister, Mabel Hughes, a son-in-law, Carroll R. Brashears Sr.; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous other relatives. She was preceded in death by a sister, Leila Smith; three brothers, Eugene Rouzer, Russell Rouzer and Paul Rouzer; a daughter, Martha Lynn Brashears; and a nephew, Donald Eugene Brashears.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 17, and from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, May, 18, at the Chapel Mausoleum of Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 U.S. Route 15 N. in Frederick, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 19. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Frederick County Humane Society, 217 W. Patrick St., Frederick, MD 21701.

Arrangements are by Resthaven Funeral Services, Skkot Cody, P.A., Frederick.

Mrs. Roma Gordon

Roma Marlene Gordon, 74, of Brunswick, passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Born Oct. 7, 1934, in Brunswick, she was the daughter of the late Howard Joseph Carey and the late Hazel Maude D'ascenzio.

She was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church in Brunswick.

She was a Brunswick Elementary School aide and a teller at F&M; Bank in Brunswick.

Mrs. Gordon was a graduate of Brunswick High School, Class of 1952, and attended Strayer College in Washington, D.C. She helped start Learn 'n Play at First United Methodist Church, and was very active with church, school, museums, the blood mobile, as a Den mother and a Frederick County homemaker. She was a charter member of the Lioness Club and a member of Brunswick No. 97 Order of the Eastern Star, and AARP.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph F. Gordon, who she married on Nov. 27, 1954, at the First United Methodist Church in Brunswick; two sons, Kevin Douglas Gordon and wife, Eileen and George Kendall Gordon and wife, Karen, all of Jefferson; two grandsons, G. Kendall Gordon II and Nicholas Joseph Gordon and wife Mindy; one granddaughter, Jamie Blair Gordon; and one great-grandson, Blaine Jackson Gordon.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 15, at John T. Williams Funeral Home, 100 Petersville Road, Brunswick. Rev. Vicky Starnes and Pastor Noni Sigler will officiate. Interment will be in Lovettsville Union cemetery.

Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 14, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to New Hope U.M.C. Building Fund, 7 S. Maryland Ave., Brunswick, MD 21716.

Mrs. Faith Fink

Mrs. Faith Evans Fink, 83, of Thurmont, died Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at the home of her daughter in Falling Waters, W.Va. She was the wife of the late Paul E. Fink, who died in June of 1997.

Born April 26, 1926, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Ulysses and Christina Le Tellier Evans.

As a child, she lived in Cabin John, Md., with her parents and nine brothers and sisters. She retired from the Defense Mapping System in 1978.

Surviving are her children, Paula Drew and husband, David, of Falling Waters, W.Va. and Gary Fink and friend, Tammy Hoewing, of Dickerson; a grandchild, Dana Drew-Carline and husband, Tony, of Falling Waters, W.Va.; great-grandsons,--Drew and Quinn Carline; sisters, Fleta DeGroat of Florida and Fenece Dewar of Colonial Beach, Va. She was preceded in death by grandson, David W. Drew II; sisters, Frances, Florence, Fern, Fillis, Ruth; and brothers, Fred and Floyd. Mrs. Fink will be sadly missed by her family.

Graveside services and interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in Creagerstown cemetery, Creagerstown.

There will be no calling or visiting at the funeral home.

Mrs. Fink requested memorial contributions be made to the Salvation Army, 223 W. Fifth St., Frederick, MD 21701.

Mr. Thomas Hennigan

Mr. Thomas F. Hennigan, 80, of Frederick, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008, in Cocoa Beach, Fla. He was the husband of Kay Hennigan.

Born July 23, 1928, in Monessen, Pa., he was a son of the late James and Anna Dudas Hennigan.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Kay, are a stepson, Andy Armstrong of Clearspring; brother, Joseph Hennigan of Anaheim, Calif.; nephews, Brian Hennigan of New Market, John Hennigan of Wheaton, Jerry Hennigan of California, and Bob, Richard and Jay Hennigan, all of Rockville, Emil George of Clarksville; and nieces, Catherian Cumberland of Virginia and Mary R. Hennigan of Frederick.

A memorial mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 16, at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 9250 Damascus Road, Damascus, MD 20872, by Rev. Peter J. Sweeney. Inurnment will follow in Mt. Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

Please omit flowers.

Mrs. Vivian Ramsburg

Mrs. Vivian L. Ramsburg, 87, of Adamstown, died Saturday, May 9, 2009, at Vindobona Nursing Home. She was the wife of Richard Ramsburg.

She was born Dec. 1, 1921, in Frederick.

In earlier years, Mrs. Ramsburg worked at Lily Ponds. She enjoyed raising horses and won many trophies for showing her horses in the local parades. She also enjoyed historical research, crafting and crocheting.

She is survived by a daughter Michelle Ramsburg Moore and husband, Robert, of Weaverton; her grandchildren, Scott Moore, Robbie, Crissy, Russell and Michael. Vivian will also be remembered by her friends, Marc Laborde, Darlene White and Nancy Knor. She was preceded in death by three children, Terrance Fleetwood, Sharon Vanderpool and Edith Clevenger and her first husband, Terrance Fleetwood.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 14, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 15, at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Utica cemetery.

Contributions may be given in honor of Mrs. Ramsburg to Carroll Manor Volunteer Fire Co., 2795 Adams St., Adamstown, MD 21710 or Meals on Wheels, c/o Department of the Aging, 1440 Taney Ave., Frederick, MD 21702.
