Mr. Clyde Unglesbee

Clyde Wachter Unglesbee, 89, of Brookeville, died Friday, May 8, 2009, at Casey House Hospice in Rockville. Born Jan. 31, 1920, in Daisy, he was the son of the late Clarence W. and Bessie Wachter Unglesbee.

A 1938 graduate of Sherwood High School, he married the former Anna M. Linton on Oct. 18, 1941. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, from 1942 to 1946 with 18 months in the European Theater of Operations. After World War II, he worked for K.W. Simpson Co., then Olney Electric Co., which he purchased with his wife in 1957 and operated until his retirement in 1990.

Mr. Unglesbee was a Town of Brookeville commissioner, charter president and life member of the Olney Chamber of Commerce, member of the board of directors of Montgomery General Hospital; Sandy Spring National Bank; Asbury Methodist Village; and Sandy Spring Museum, serving two years as chairman. He served as past commander and chaplain and was a member for 61 years of the American Legion Norman Price Post #68. He was a charter member of Sandy Spring Lions Club in 1946, and charter member of Olney Lions Club in 1972, zone chairman and deputy district governor. He was a member of the United Methodist Church since 1929 and held many local and district offices in the conference. He was a lay leader of the Washington West District and past secretary of the Baltimore Annual Conference Board of Laity.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a brother, Leslie (Josephine) Unglesbee; two sisters-in-law, Mary Unglesbee and Florence Johnston; many loving nieces, nephews, and God-children.

Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, at Muriel H. Barber Funeral Home, Laytonsville. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 14, at Salem United Methodist Church, 12 High St., Brookeville, MD 20833.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Salem UMC Legacy Fund, in care of Salem United Methodist Church, at the above address.

Mrs. Lisa Baker

Mrs. Lisa M. Baker, 49, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully after a long struggle with appendiceal cancer, on Friday, May 8, 2009, at Kline Hospice House. She was the wife of Brian F. Baker, her husband of 27 years.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her two children, daughter, Brittany M. Baker (23), and son, Collin F. Baker (19); mother, Audrey L. Helbert Germon; siblings, Joseph N. Germon Jr. and wife, Lynn, Terry L. Germon and wife, Holly; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Born July 17, 1959, in Bethesda, she was the daughter of the late Joseph N. Germon Sr. and surviving Audrey L. Helbert Germon. She graduated from Magruder High School in Rockville, Class of 1977. She was an employee of Homecare Rehab LLC. for approximately seven years.

Lisa's main focus in life was her family and friends. She loved relaxing at the beach and lake, and will be beloved and missed greatly.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, at Muriel H. Barber Funeral Home, 21525 Laytonsville Road, Laytonsville, and from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday, May 13, at Epworth United Methodist Church, 9008 Rosemont Drive, Gaithersburg. Funeral services will be held starting at noon at Epworth United Methodist Church. Following the services, Lisa will be laid to rest at Parklawn Memorial Park, Rockville.

Floral tributes are welcome, or memorial donations may be made to Mountain View Community Church, In honor of Lisa Baker, 3401 Urbana Pike, Frederick, MD 21704.

Mrs. Dorothy Crone

Mrs. Dorothy Louise Crone, 84, of Keymar, died Sunday, May 24, 2009, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, following a brief illness.

Born July 12, 1924, near New Midway, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Walter Sr. and Mary Lucinda Smith Lind. She was the wife of Charles W. Crone, who predeceased her in 2008. Mrs. Crone was of the Lutheran faith and was a homemaker. She enjoyed watching soap operas and western shows.

Surviving are a daughter, Linda Wastler of Thurmont; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary A. Grabill of Johnsville, Sarah C. Blessing of Keymar, and Betty L. Crouse of Taneytown; brother, Roy L. Lind and wife, Darlene, of Woodsboro; sisters-in-law, Sophia Lind of Emmitsburg and Betty Lind of Johnsville; numerous nieces and nephews; and special neighbor and friend, Frances Ebaugh and family.

She was predeceased by a son, Thomas E. Eckenrode Jr.; a sister, Ella Kline; and brothers, Daniel W. Lind Jr. and Joseph S. Lind.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 29, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 404 S. Main St., Woodsboro, with the Rev. Dr. Michelle Carlson, pastor of Mt. Zion Haugh's Lutheran Church, Ladiesburg, officiating. Interment will be in Haugh's cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 28, at the funeral home.

Mr. Richard Clevenger

Richard Lewis Clevenger "Richie," 25, of Lovettsville, Va., died Thursday, May 21, 2009, at his residence. Born Sept. 16, 1983, in Ranson, W.Va., he was the son of Robert E. and Sharon L. Clevenger.

Richie was a 2001 graduate of Brunswick High School where he attended vocational masonry and brickwork classes at Frederick Community College. He was employed at many different places, including Sam's Machine Shop, Classic Plumbing, JHG, Metropolitan Environment, Bob's Garage and Moore Excavating. He loved working on cars and had an uncanny ability to learn things more quickly than most. Richie was a very special son who would give unconditionally to anyone. He will be sorely missed by all those who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Richie is survived by his stepmother, Jackie Clevenger; brother, Daniel A. Stauffer of Point of Rocks; and sister, Milinda Clevenger and her boyfriend, Sherman M. Martin, of Ranson, W.Va.; as well as stepsisters, Linda Jackson of Boonsboro and Michele Dove of Indiana. In addition to his many other family members, he is also survived by his grandmother, Constance Horn of Point of Rocks; uncles, Earl R. Clevenger and family, Homer Horn Jr. and family, Jess Horn and family and Robert Dove; niece, Anessa J. Stauffer; and nephew, Chris Dove "Little Richie." He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Homer F. Horn Sr. and Richard C. Clevenger.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, at Keeney and Basford, P.A., Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home, with Pastor Edward Hartman officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Daniel Stauffer, Milinda Clevenger, Danny Hoffman, Sherman Martin, Michael Horn, Ricky Beall and Jim Delaplaine. Honorary pallbearers will be Martin Horn, Matthew Horn, Robert Clevenger and Patsy Weedon. Interment will be in St. Paul's Episcopal cemetery, Point of Rocks.

Mrs. Darla McIe Blank

Mrs. Darla Nannette McIe Blank, 47, of Woodsboro, made her way into the arms of God on Friday, May 22, 2009. Born July 25, 1961, in West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Glenn Starkey Jr. and Loula Ann Cochran Starkey. She was the loving spouse of David Blank.

Darla was currently employed with Trouts Restaurant, Woodsboro, in the kitchen. She enjoyed yard sales, thrift stores, hair dye and taking pictures. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are daughters, Diana Campbell and husband, Tommy, Dottie Manley and husband, Carl, Sasha Shultz and husband, Richard W., Nicole Blank, Christina Blank, and Tasha Meade; son, Steven Meade II; grandchildren, Travis, Alexis and Trevor Campbell, Destiny Dennis, Emily, Josh and Zack Manley, and Desire, Mya and Gavin Shultz; one sister; one brother; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 28, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 404 S. Main St., Woodsboro, with the Rev. Tom Darner, pastor of Bark Hill Bible Church, officiating. Interment will be in Chapel cemetery, near Libertytown. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Charles Cannon Jr.

Mr. Charles "Burt" Burton Cannon Jr., 88, of Frederick, died Sunday, May 17, 2009, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Shirley Moore Cannon.

Burt was born Feb. 20, 1921, in Frederick, as the son of the late Nellie V. Twentey Cannon and Charles Burton Cannon Sr.

He retired as business contract manager and corporate officer of Eyler Research Corp. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corps in England and the Philippines. He was a lifelong member of Brook Hill United Methodist Church in Yellow Springs, serving in many positions.

Burt was a member of the American Legion, AMVETS, Disabled Veterans and the Elks Club. He was a charter member and past president of the Yellow Springs Lions Club and participated in community sport and civic activities. He served as clerk to the Frederick County Commissioners and Planning Commission. Subsequently, he was appointed by the governor to be a county commissioner. He was also a lover of nature, the outdoors and was an avid gardener.

Burt loved spending time with family and friends and will be greatly missed by all.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three daughters, Carol Reta Holter and husband, Samuel, Mary Cynthia Fleagle and husband, Paul, and Melody Long and husband, Charlie. He, "Pap," is survived by 12 grandchildren, Sandra Mason and husband, Brent, Leland S. Schafer and wife, Shirley, Zachary Fleagle and wife, Christi, Jeb Fleagle and wife, Julie, Meghan Fleagle, Jeremy McQueen and wife, Lori, Kristopher McQueen, Natalie Little and husband, Brent, Jesse McQueen and wife, Kelly, Clint Long, Cheryl Pitt and husband, Shane, and Brandon Long; and 15 great-grandchildren. Burt is survived by one brother, Connie Mack Cannon and wife, Betty, and their children, Terri and Timothy. He will also be remembered by many other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Reta Jeanne Carbaugh and her husband, William.

He donated his body to the Maryland Anatomy Board for scientific research.

A memorial service will be officiated by the Rev. Dr. Conrad Link at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, at Brook Hill United Methodist Church.

Mr. Raymond Ecker

Mr. Raymond Reese Ecker, 84, of Thurmont, formerly of New Windsor, died suddenly Monday, May 25, 2009, at his home. Born April 13, 1925, in Frederick County, he was the son of the late Carroll and Elizabeth Collar Ecker.

He was a dairy farmer helper in the New Windsor area, working for Arthur Thompson for 30 years, and later his son, Sonny Thompson, for 32 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of Carroll County Farm Bureau. Mr. Ecker enjoyed fishing, watching NASCAR races, going to McDonald's in Taneytown and Thurmont with the senior group, hanging around at Tuck's Garage in Union Bridge and spending time with his friend, Hot Dog.

Surviving are four sisters, Clara Tressler of Thurmont, with whom he resided, Hanna June Thomas of Hanover, Pa., Phyllis Crone of Greencastle, Pa., and Nellie Bentz of Glen Burnie; several nieces and nephews, including Shirley Withrow of West Virginia, whom he raised, and Wanda Phillips of Thurmont, who was his caregiver; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by 12 brothers and one sister.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 29, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church St., New Windsor. The Rev. Anne Durboraw, pastor of St. Luke's Winters Lutheran Church, will officiate. Interment will be in Linganore cemetery, Unionville. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 28, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke's Winters Lutheran Church, c/o Phyllis Bassler, 1401 New Windsor Road, New Windsor, MD 21776; or to a charity of choice.

Ms. Pauline Weller

Ms. Pauline Bertha Weller, 84, passed away Friday, May 22, 2009, at Genesis Health Care Center in Gettysburg, Pa.

Born May 10, 1925, in Tuckerdale, N.C., she was the daughter of the late William W. Hurley and Bertie Lou Starling. One of 10 girls and three boys, she is survived by two sons, Garnet Weller II and C. Alan Garrett; a sister, Retha Salamancheck; three grandchildren; and a friend, Lisa Herring. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Paula Weller.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, in the Garden of Devotion at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 U.S. 15 N., Frederick. The Rev. Irving Martin will officiate.

Arrangements are by Resthaven Funeral Services, Skkot Cody, P.A., Frederick.

Mrs. Helen Burdette

Mrs. Helen I. Burdette, 95, of Dickerson, died peacefully Friday, May 22, 2009, at the National Lutheran Home in Rockville.

She was the loving wife of the late John R. Burdette.

Born Dec. 23, 1913, in Dickerson, she was the daughter of the late Cora E. Mulligan.

During her active years Helen was involved with the Dickerson United Methodist Church and the Beallsville Senior's Group.

Surviving are her loving children, Russ Burdette and wife, Carole, of Ocean Isle Beach, N.C., and Otis and Tommy Burdette, both of Hagerstown; six grandchildren, Chris, Jon, Juliann, Steve, Adam and Katie; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Doug Burdette.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, at the Dickerson United Methodist Church, 20341 Dickerson Church Road, Dickerson, where the family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.

Interment will follow in Monocacy cemetery, Beallsville.

Mr. Thomas Dixon

Mr. Thomas F. Dixon, 62, of Gaithersburg, died Thursday, May 21, 2009, at Norfolk General Hospital. He was the husband of Marcia E. Dixon.

Born Oct. 30, 1946, in Takoma Park, he was the son of the late Monroe H. and Julia Gamble Dixon.

Mr. Dixon was a member of the Local # 26 I. B.E. W. Local for 40 years. He was an electrician and loved his job. He was a veteran and served in the United States Navy during Vietnam.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are two children, Jennifer R. Sherry and her husband, Scott, of Wellington, Fla., and Andrew T. Dixon and his wife, Nikki, of Gaithersburg; grandchildren, Lillian, Abagail, Cameron and Braydon; sisters, Linda Snyder and Lisa Abel; and brother, James Dixon.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday, May 25, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Frances Stewart will officiate. Interment with military honors will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

Mr. Scott Newcomb

Mr. Scott Edward Newcomb, 55, of Frederick, passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at University of Maryland Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

Born Dec. 2, 1953, in Lynn, Mass., he was the son of Mary Florence Majcher of Boca Raton, Fla. and the late Harold Newcomb. He lived for golf, playing guitar, and his kids.

In addition to his mother, Scott is survived by his daughter, Katie Newcomb of Pittsburgh, Pa.; his son, Kyle Newcomb of Frederick; two brothers, Thomas Newcomb and wife, Donna, of Philadelphia, Pa., and Gerald Newcomb of Boca Raton, Fla.; a stepsister, Ellen Anastasiou and husband, Tom, of Florida; a stepbrother, Paul Majcher, also of Florida; his ex-wife and best friend, Mary Ellen Newcomb of Walkersville, and many other friends and relatives.

Visitation will take place Tuesday, May 26, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Chapel Mausoleum of Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 U.S. Route 15 N., Frederick. Committal services will be private.

Mrs. Rosemarie Ross

Rosemarie Callahan Ross, 89, of Frederick, went home to be with God and the angels on Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. Born on May 19, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Louis H. and Irene Callahan. She was the wife of the late Dr. John T. Ross Jr.

Rosemarie grew up in Baltimore, and graduated from Towson State University and obtained her master of arts degree at Western Maryland College. She taught fifth grade at North Frederick Elementary School for the majority of her long teaching career, retiring in 1987. She was a member of the Delta Keppa Gamma, Maryland Teacher's Association and enjoyed her afternoon lunches with her retired teaching colleagues.

Rosemarie is survived by her daughter, Anne Morrissery; a son, John T. Ross III, and his wife, Natalie Ross; and two grandchildren, Alicia Morrissery and Ian Morrissery. In addition to her immediate family, she is survived by two brothers, John Callahan and his wife, Dorothy, and Eugene Callahan and his wife, Corinne, both of Baltimore. She is also survived by one sister, Susan Wolfe and husband, Victor, of Virginia. She also had many devoted nieces and nephews, William, John, Colleen, Kevin, Thomas, Annie, Laurie, Patrick, Cecilia, Louis, Marylea, CaroleAnn, Patrick, Jeannie, Mary Frances, Mitchell, John, DeeDee, Marie and Theodore. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Patricia Walsh and Alma Thurman, and one brother, Louis Callahan.

Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 22, at Keeney and Basford, P.A., Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 11: 15 p.m. Saturday, May 23, in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. Father Daniel Goulet of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church will officiate.

The interment will follow in the Clustered Spires cemetery, formerly known as Linden Hills cemetery, Frederick. Contributions may be made in Rosemarie's name to the Humane Society of Frederick County, 217 W. Patrick St., Frederick, MD 21701.
