He was the son of the late Mary F. Parrish Walters and late Reginald Walters. He was a Plaster for over 40 years 26 with Jennings Mitchell and Son. Mr. Walters was a School Bus Driver for 19 years for Rill’s Bus Service. He was a 1946 graduate of Catonsville High School, Served as a Sgt in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, was a baseball coach and manager for Liberty Rd Baseball from 1964-1974. He was an avid Sports Fan: Following the Orioles, NASCAR enjoyed Bowling and playing cards; He was a member of Stone Chapel United Methodist Church, American Legion Sykesville Memorial Post #223 and a member of New Windsor Lions Club. Surviving in addition to his wife are Children and their spouses Deborah A. and Paul Arnold of Linwood, MD, Wayne D. and Laurie Walters of Westminster. Grandchildren; Heather A., Arnold, Rebecca A. Arnold, Drew A. Walters and Douglas O Walters. Memorial Services will be held Monday June 2, 2008 10 AM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, P.A. 1212 W. Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784 with the Rev. Ellin Dize of Stone Chapel United Methodist Church officiating. Inurnment will be in Spring Hill cemetery, Easton, MD. The family will receive friends on Saturday 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home. Coates, David B.
David Brian Coates 55 of Westminster, MD died Wednesday June 4, 2008 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. The spouse of Rev. Mindy Booher Coates for 30 years. Mr. Coates was born April 14, 1953 in Burlington, VT The son of Robert and Anita Dudley Coates of Jacksonville, FL., he was a 1971 graduate of Shaler High School in Pittsburgh PA, has a B.S from Indiana University of PA. Mr. Coates taught business subjects at Loch Raven High School and coached Indoor Track from 1977-1979 during which time he also worked at Pappy’s Pizza in Carney, MD. He worked at MD Cup Corporation from 1979- 1985, Noxell Corporation from 1985-1990 and Wells Fargo Mortgage Company from 1990 to present as a Computer Analyst He was a member of Westminster Moose Lodge #1381 and also a member and Treasurer of Taylorsville Winfield Lions Club both of whom will be having memorial services on Friday 7:30 and 8:00 PM respectively at the funeral home. Mr. Coates provided technical support for Ross Nickerson’s “The Banjo Encyclopedia” He enjoyed singing and playing the Banjo and also gave Banjo lessons. He was one of the four founding member of “Four Fun” a Barber Shop Group that sang at many functions and Churches with a highlight of singing at Camden Yards in 1997. He was a member of Patapsco United Methodist Church and also very active at Mount Gilead United Methodist Church. He loved fishing, canoeing, camping, Watching the Orioles, Ravens and Steelers, Movies relaxing with friends, Racket Ball, Wally ball and Woodworking. He was a Red Belt in Traditional Tae Kwon Do. He also continued to give to Legacy of Life Foundation. Surviving him in addition to his wife and parents are: Son and Daughter-in-law Justin and Alana Esposito Coates of Raleigh, NC. Brothers and sister-in-laws Glen and Patricia Coates of Suffield, CT, Dan and Shelly Coates of Fruit Cove, FL Sister and brother –in-law Vicki and Mardi Tuell of Fruit Cove, FL. Family friends Sandy and Gordon Scott of Pittsburgh, PA. Nieces and nephews: Meghan, James, Jesse, Lindsay and Casey Coates Alex and Chelsey Tuell, Ian and Cammy Gordon, Tyler Booher and Dylan Painter. There will be a Gathering of Friends on Friday June 6, 2008 7 to 9 PM at BURRIER-QUEEN FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784. Sciacca, Ethel R.
Ethel Ruth Cheelsman Sciacca, age, 81 of Middletown formerly of Pasadena, MD, died Wednesday June 11, 2008 at her daughter’s home in Middletown, MD. She was the spouse of the late Leonard Sciacca. Mrs. Sciacca was born June 21, 1926 the daughter of the late Charles Henry Cheelsman and Eva Marie Gerhard Cheelsman. Mrs. Sciacca was a homemaker, Child Sponsor for CARP (Central American Relief Project.) An active supporter of both Life in Jesus Community and El Shaddai. She also enjoyed cooking, crocheting, reading and gardening. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Surviving are Daughter and son-in-law Jacqueline and Brian Wilhite of Libertytown, MD Daughter and Son-law Ruth and Thom Tousignaut of Middletown, MD Brother Earl Cheelsman of Baltimore, MD. Grandchildren; Eva Wilhite, Jacob and wife Debbie Tousignaut and Jennifer and Michael Tousignaut. George “Leroy “ Brown, 82 of Mt. Airy, MD, died suddenly at home on Friday June 13, 2008. Mr. Brown was the spouse of Nellie Fleming Brown of Mt. Airy, MD. Mr. Brown was born July 14, 1925 in Mt. Airy, MD. The son of the late John Gaver Brown and the late Rena Louise Long Brown. Most recently Mr. Brown worked for Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory. Previous to that he was a Real Estate and Insurance Agent mostly for Burdette Agency and Frederick Underwriters. Mr. Brown was a head usher at Calvary United Methodist Church for over 32 years, a volunteer at Frederick Memorial Hospital, a former Pilot and a Nissan Z enthusiast. He was a devoted father to the late Kimberly Barton and her husband Kenneth Barton of Mt. Airy. Loving brother to Hazel Woodfield of Mt. Airy. Dear Grandfather to Jenny and her husband Mark Haugh. Funeral Services will be conducted on Monday June 16, 2008 12:30 PM at Calvary united Methodist Church, 403 S. Main St. Mt. Airy, MD 21771 with Rev. Dennis Yocum officiating. Snowden, Emma I.
Emma I (Magers) Snowden, 94 of Mt. Airy, MD died Saturday June 21, 2008 at Carroll Hospital Center. She was the spouse of the late Gilbert Snowden. Mrs. Snowden was born September 21, 1913 in Mt. Airy, MD the daughter of the late Howard Magers and the late Evelyn I (Smith) Magers. She was a seamstress for Mt. Airy Sewing Company for 39 years, a member of Howard Chapel-Ridgeville United Methodist Church and enjoyed playing Bingo at the American Legion in Mt. Airy. Surviving her is her grandson Dale and his wife Sharon Logue of New Windsor and several other Great-Grandchildren and Great-Great Grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her daughter Shirley and husband Tommy Logue, Grandson; Wayne Logue, Brothers and Sisters: Orville Magers, Howard Magers, Etta Gartrell, Ruth Frizzell and Sylvia Beall. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday June 24, 2008 11 AM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, 1212 W. Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784. Interment will be in Pine Grove cemetery, Mt. McCumber, James L.
James Lawrence McCumber age 60 of Sykesville, MD, died Saturday June 21, 2008 at the Dove House in Westminster. He was the spouse of Patricia Ann McCumber. Mr. McCumber was born March 25, 1948 in Baltimore, MD the son of Troy McCumber and Vivian (Loughry) McCumber. Mr. McCumber was an Inspector for Northrop Grumman. He was a proud Vietnam Veteran serving in the US Army 101st Airborne in Vietnam and was awarded the Bronze Star, a commendation medal from the Army for his action. He enjoyed visiting the Smithsonian Museums and traveling to Skyline Drive. Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are Daughter: Kelli Ann Smith of Westminster, Daughter and Son-in-law Kara Lee and Randy Enos of Sykesville, Son and Daughter-in-law Jason Troy and Jana McCumber of Frostburg, MD and Daughter and Son-in-law Jamie Lyn and Jason Holbert of Gettysburg, PA. Sisters: Janet Brammer of Hanover, and Linda Fefel of Baltimore. Grandchildren: Breanna Smith, Sam and Joseph Enos. Funeral Services will take place Tuesday June 24, 2008 2:00 PM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, P.A. 1212 W. Old Liberty Rd. Linda Jean (Shafer) Stitely 58 of Mt. Airy, MD, died Monday June 23, 2008 at Carroll Hospital Center. She was the spouse of Ernest Leroy Stitely of Mt. Airy. Mrs. Stitely was born November 16, 1949 in Middletown, MD the daughter of the late Meredith R. Shafer and Emogene Fogle She was a homemaker. Other hobbies included Cross Stitch and Gardening. Surviving in addition to her husband are Children: Ernest Leroy Stitely, Jr. and Randy Matthew Stitely. Brothers and Sisters; Steve Hinton, Carolyn Stone, Emory Shafer, Barbara and brother-in-law Stan Man, Gary and sister-in-law Debbie Shafer, Doug and sister-in-law Vanessa Orrison and Debbie and brother-in-law Ron Barkdoll. Murray, Jr., George E.
George Edward Murray, Jr. 63 of Sykesville, MD died Monday June 23, 2008 at University of MD Medical Center. He was the spouse of Rosemary Lee (Ridgley) Murray. He was born October 5, 1944 in Baltimore, MD the son of the late George Edward Murray, Sr. and late Rose E. (Wise) Smith. Mr. Murray was a Master Plumber for Carroll Hospital Center for 17 years before retiring. Surviving him in addition to his wife are Daughter and Son-in-law Anna and Scott Honeycutt of Hanover, PA, Sisters Patricia Gamber and Teresa Dahlke both of Sykesville and Victoria Windle of Baltimore, MD. He was born March 18, 1924 in Woodbine, MD the son of the late Charles Harrison and the late Myrtle Belle Harrison (nee Lindsey). He was the husband of Dorothy Harrison (nee Ridgley). He was a farmer. He was a member of Westminster Moose Lodge. He was a member of the Maryland Two Cylinder Club. He was a member of Mt. Olive U.M. Church in Mt. Airy. He enjoyed trading tractors. He was the father of Paul F. Harrison, Jr. and wife Susan of Burkittsville, Edward “Eddie” Harrison, Sr. and wife Jayne of Woodbine and Jeffrey L. Harrison and wife Sue of Woodbine. Brother of Margaret Thompson of Woodbine, Marie Fogle of Woodbine and the late Robert Lee Harrison. Loving Grandfather of Paul F. “Butch” Harrison III and wife Linda, Shannon Harrison, Rachel Troppman and husband Eric, Elisha Iager and Husband Mark, Jill Harrison and the late Eddie Jr. and Jered Harrison. Harrison, Kenneth J.
Kenneth Jerald Harrison, age 72, of Woodbine, died Thursday July 10, 2008 at his home. He was born April 27, 1936 in Lansdowne, MD the son of the late George W. Harrison and the late Margaret Della Harrison (nee Hatfield). He was the husband of Martha “Marty” J. Harrison (nee Condon). He was a Truck driver for 27 years for Howard W. Clark Co. and over 17 years for the Howard County School Board. He loved playing Softball and he coached and played for the Woodbine Rebels Softball team. He loved going to Deep Creek Lake; hunting and fishing and enjoyed being with his family. He loved the Yankees Baseball team. He served in the US Army as a SGT. He was the father of Judy Gartrell and husband of Tony of Woodbine and Sandy Starner and husband Bill of Mt. Airy. He was predeceased by his brothers: Walter, Marvin, Leroy, Alan, Calvin and Paul Harrison. Loving grandfather of Justin and Josh Gartrell of Woodbine, and Cory and Cody Starner of Mt. Airy. Also survived by devoted friends Butch Cantwell, Ashley Harrison and Taylor Barret, and numerous nieces and nephews. LaRue Brown Gosnell, age 84, of Mt. Airy, died Sunday, July 20, 2008 at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, MD. She was born March 15, 1924 in Dayton, Maryland the daughter of the late John Brown and the late Beulah Brown (nee Brown). She was the wife of A. Webster Gosnell of 61 years. She was a homemaker. She was a 1942 graduate of Clarksville High School and became a legal secretary for a law firm in Ellicott City for 16 years, and later a bookkeeper for her husband’s dry cleaning business for 27 years. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and playing cards. She was a member of Calvary U.M. Church in Mt. Airy. Surviving in addition to her husband are a son Michael Gosnell of Cockeysville and a daughter Judy Southworth of Westminster and four granddaughters Jennifer and Christina Gosnell and Lindsay and Tara Southworth and one brother Paul Brown of Florida. She was predeceased by four brothers and sisters. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday July 23, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA 1212 W.
