Costley, Dorothy R.
Mrs. Dorothy Rebecca Costley, 86, of 105 S. Center St., Westminster died Wednesday, July 23 at 12:30 PM after an extended illness, at Carroll Hospice Dove House in Westminster, MD. She was the wife of the late John Wesley Costley. Born October 22, 1921 in West Friendship, MD, she was a daughter of the late Albert Augustus and late Carrie Rachel Thomas King. She was formerly employed at Henryton Hospital in Sykesville, and later Gould, Inc. in Westminster, where she later retired and was an Electronics assembler. She enjoyed cooking and baking, she was a foster mother to many children over the years. Mrs. Costley was a former member of Fairview United Methodist Church and later joined Union Memorial Baptist Church, and had been a constant supporter of that church. She is survived by one sister, Florence Emma Robinson of Port Norris, NJ, a sister-in-law Sandroa King of Port Norris, NJ, a foster daughter, Betty Ann Alexander of Westminster, a number of nieces and nephews, 3 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 4 sisters: Mabel Ivolee Henson, Mary Kathrine Horsey Whitaker, Alice Virginia Costley Baker and Agnes Lucille Sims; 4 brothers: John Albert King, Leo King, Howard Franklin King and Elmer Augustus King; and one grandchild. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Union Memorial Baptist Church, 160 S. Center Street with the Rev. Edwin Smith, Jr. officiating. Wake will be from 10:00am until time of service. Burial will be in Garrison Forest Veterans cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Union Memorial Baptist Church, PO Box 2207, Westminster, MD 21158-2207.

Lohoefer III, Charles Z.
Mr. Charles Z. Lohoefer III, age 62, of Woodbine, MD, passed away on Thursday July 24, 2008 at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, MD. He was the husband of Alice Lohoefer. He was born in Baltimore, MD on April 2, 1946; he was the son of the late Charles Z. and late Mae E. (Kirby) Lohoefer, Jr. Charles was a member of Howard Chapel Ridgeville U.M. Church; he enjoyed working the dinners. Employed at Northrop Grumman for over 38 years as an electrician. He loved the outdoors and fishing. His earlier years he enjoyed traveling and camping at Deep Creek Lake. He is preceded in death by his father and mother and sister in law Bonnie Turbin. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons; Charles Lohoefer and wife Michele of Woodbine and Kenneth Lohoefer and wife Lauren of Myrtle Beach, SC. Loving grandfather of grandsons; Kevin, Keith and Jason and granddaughters Beth, Angela and Colleen. Also survived by step daughter Tammy Cantwell and her husband Chris of Woodbine and step grandson Jeffrey Cantwell. Friends may call at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield (Beside South Carroll High School) on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Funeral Service will be held Monday July 28, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA with the Pastor Laura Schultz officiating. Interment will be in Union Chapel cemetery in Libertytown, MD.

Denney, Russell E.
Russell E. Denney 84 of Eldersburg, MD, died Thursday July 31, 2008 at Dove House. He was the spouse of 62 years to his childhood sweetheart Jean (Greiner) Denney of Eldersburg. He was born April 19, 1924 in Hopewell, OH the son of the late David F. Denney and late Lula Belle Cochran Denney. Mr. Denney was a retired accountant for Knox Glass and had also worked for John S. Wilson Lumber. Mr. Denney was a WWII Veteran and a just celebrated 60 years as a Mason. He was a member of Freedom Masonic Lodge # 112. He was also a member of Sykesville American Legion Post #273. A member of Wesley Freedom United Methodist Church. An avid crossword puzzle enthusiast. He was known as “Speed” on his softball team back in Zanesville, OH when growing up. Surviving in addition to his wife are Daughters and Son-in-laws Shelby J. and Bill Bacon of Ocean City, MD, Shirley L. and Frank Griffin of Sykesville, MD Son and Daughter-in-law Russell “Rusty” and Terry Denney lf Woodbine Sister: Waneva Ardrey of Livonia, MI Brother of Richard Denney of Columbus, OH Sister-in-law and brother-in-law Kathy and Dick Tarbert of Zainsville, OH Grandchildren: Doug and Michael Gorr, Tammy Whiteman, Troy Griffin, Christy and TJ Denney and 7 great-grandchildren. Memorial Services will be held on Sunday August 3, 2008 2PM at Wesley Freedom United Methodist Church, 961 Johnsville Rd. Eldersburg, MD 21784 with the family receiving friends from 1:30 PM until time of Service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Dove House c/o Carroll Hospice 292 Stoner Ave Westminster, MD 21157.

Dixon, Elizabeth
Elizabeth Williams “Betsy” Dixon, 63, of Taylorsville died Saturday, August 2, 2008 at her home. Born December 4, 1944 in Wilkes-Barre, PA, she was the daughter of the late John L. Fehlinger and late Anna Mae Owens Williams. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard Melvin Dixon, devoted mother of Scott Long of TX, Mark Long and wife Tammy of Clearbrook, VA and Anne Marie Williams of Taylorsville, MD. Also survived by son in law Harry Evans; Sister of Lois McCarty of Dushore, PA, John E. Williams of Galveston, TX, Thomas J. Williams of San Antonio, TX, Charlotte Crothers of Coatesville, PA, and Molly Ray of Eldersburg, MD and Deborah Celata of Wilmington, DE; she was preceded in death by a brother, James B. Williams. She was the grandmother of Mary Elizabeth Williams and Mikey Williams; Ronny Anderson of Winchester, VA and Shannon Clarke of Delray, WV and Matthew Celata; great-grandmother of Shirenity Clarke, and Skylar, Heaven and Nevaeh Anderson. She was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church, a member of the O.W.L.S., and she enjoyed gardening, flowers and shopping. A funeral service will be held at 4:00 PM on Wednesday, August 6 at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Rd, Winfield, MD., with the Rev. Mindy Coates officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 PM on Tuesday, August 5 at the funeral home. Mathena, Jr., Vernon W.
Vernon W. Mathena, Jr. age 76, of Granite, died Saturday August 2, 2008 at his home. He was born June 11, 1932 in Baltimore, MD the son of the late Vernon W. Mathena, Sr. and the late Ethelene Wilt Mathena. He was a Retired Baltimore County Fireman engine #18 from May 12, 1956-May 25, 1973. He served in the Army from June 4, 1953-October 18, 1954. He was the founder of Mathena Septic Tank Service. He enjoyed Farming, Hunting, Fishing, Nascar Racing and most importantly spending time with his family. Former owner of Granite Mobile Home Park. He was the husband of the late Virginia Anne Mathena (nee Dennis). Devoted father of Jeffrey E. Mathena, Sr. and wife Linda of Manchester, Verna Jean Berg and husband Michael of Granite. Dear brother of Betty Meekins of Granite, Vivian Leatherwood of Woodbine, Barbara Harris of Granite, Patsey Haddaway of Granite, Larry Mathena, Sr. of Granite, Bremen Mathena, Sr. of Granite, Bob Mathena of Granite and the late Mary Jane Geisler. Loving grandfather of Jeffrey Mathena, Jr., Dawn Tober, Randy Mathena, Amie Rankin, Dana Mays and Kristan Berg. Loving great grandfather of- Jeffrey Mathena III, Justin Tober, Brett Tober, Tyler Marie Mays, Connor Rankin and Caden Rankin. Franklin, Mary A.
Mary Alma Franklin 79 of New Windsor, MD, died Wednesday August 6, 2008 at Carroll Hospital Center. She was born Sept 19, 1928 in Carroll County, MD. The daughter of the late Fred Augustus Franklin and the late Julia (Hooper) Franklin. She was retired from Springfield State Hospital as a Food Service Assistant. Ms. Franklin was also a member of New Windsor Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Surviving her are Sister Belva Richards of Colorado. Devoted friends Ed Nichols of Finksburg and James and Grace Garver of Mt. Airy. She is preceded in death by 2 brothers Luther Franklin of New Windsor and Albert Franklin of Mt. Airy. Private Services will be conducted at a later date.

Heeter, Sally
Sally (nee Walker) Heeter, 75 of Randallstown, died Thursday August 14, 2008 at her home in Randallstown. She was the Beloved wife of Harold Heeter, Sr. She was born August 8, 1933 in Philadelphia, PA the daughter of the late Harry Walker and Marian Jorgenson Walker. Mrs. Heeter was the book keeper for over 24 years at United Optical. She enjoyed reading, and traveling. Surviving in addition to her husband are. Devoted mother of Harold (Chip) and wife Cathy Heeter, Jr. Thomas and wife Jill Heeter, Kenneth and wife Donna Heeter. Loving Sister of Harry and James Walker. Dearest Grandmother of Rachel, Zachary, Michael and Sarah Heeter. The family will receive friends on Sunday August 17, 2008 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. Barnes, Sally J.
Sally Jane (Thomas) Barnes, 67 of Mt. Airy, MD, died Friday August 15, 2008 at University of MD Medical Center. She was the spouse of William Herman Barnes, Jr. She was born August 16, 1940 in Baltimore, MD the daughter of the late George C. Thomas and the late Justa (Witherspoon) Thomas. Mrs. Barnes worked as a nurse for 20 years at Carroll Hospital Center and later became a School Nurse for Howard County Public Schools before retiring in 2007. She was a 1958 graduate of Mt. Airy High School. She enjoyed the company of her friends and family. Surviving her in addition to her husband are Daughter and Son-in-law Julia and David Call of Prince Frederick, MD, Son and Daughter-in-law Jim and Suellen Barnes of Mt. Airy, MD Brothers: George Thomas of Columbia and Dennis Thomas of Westminster. Grandchildren: Brandon and Zachary Call and Mary-Kaitlyn and Mathew Barnes. Preceded in death by Brother Jim Thomas of Mt. Airy. Services will be held Tuesday August 19, 2008 10 Am at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784 with the Rev. Clarence Kaylor officiating. Interment will be in Pine Grove cemetery, Mt Airy, MD. Goodwin, John
John “Stanley” Goodwin 68 of Winfield, MD, died Friday August 22, 2008 at Carroll Hospital Center. He was the spouse of the Lois (Wagner) Goodwin of Winfield. He was born January 10, 1940 in Frederick, MD the son of C. Marie Goodwin and the late Harold Goodwin. Most recently he was retired from Joseph Gartland Plumbing. He was a US Army Veteran and a Member of American Legion Sykesville Memorial Post 223 and a member of Grace Fellowship Chapel. Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are Daughter Kathi Lucas of GA, Son John Steven Spaulding of Winfield, Daughter Linda Aucompaugh of New York Son Martin Scott Goodwin of NY. 1 Step-daughter, 3 Step-sons and 3 step-grandsons Sister and Brother-in-law Barbara and Norman Zepp of Woodbine, Nephew Eddie Zepp of Winfield and Niece Michelle Hicks of Westminster. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by son Michael a. Spaulding. Funeral Services will be conducted on Wednesday August 27, 2008 11 AM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784 with Rev. Steven W. Wellen, age 35, of Winfield, died Monday August 25, 2008 at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster, MD. He was born December 5, 1972 in Baltimore, MD, the son of Debra and Steven Wellen of Finksburg. He was the husband of Jennifer M. Wellen (nee Harrison). He was the Owner of A-Quality Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc. He lived life to the fullest. He loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed Friends, Race cars and camping. Also survived by children; Kyle Steven Wellen, Luke Harrison Wellen and Julia Michelle Wellen all of Winfield. Brother of Brian Wellen of Sykesville. Loving Grandson of William Whitecotton of Westminster and Catherine Wellen of Hanover, PA and the late Doris Whitecotton and the late Hugh Wellen. Son in law of Gary and Betty Poole of Winfield, and Gerald (Sonny) and Bonnie Harrison of Mt. Airy. Brother in law of Emily Hymiller of Union Bridge, Ben Poole of Winfield, Jason Harrison of Mt. Airy and Greg Hymiller of Union Bridge. Also survived by Best Friend and partner Earl Post of Mt. Airy. Walter Marvin” Shorty “ Sirk 81 of Lisbon, MD, died Sunday August 30, 2008 at Montgomery County General Hospital. He was the spouse of Charlotte Lorrain (Harrison) Sirk. He was the spouse of Charlotte Lorraine (Harrison) Sirk. He was born August 19, 1927 in Gaithersburg, MD the son of the late Jessie Marvin Sirk and the late Bessie Rebecca (Ritchie) Sirk. He was a Self Employed School Bus Driver for Howard County Public Schools for 46 years. His hobbies included building Grandfather and Grandmothers Clocks and restoring Chevrolet Corvairs. Surviving in addition to his wife are Son and daughter-in-law Roger and Barbara Sirk of Sykesville, Grandchildren: Randy Koontz, Diane Koontz-Wood and Katie Sirk Great-grandchildren Alan, Dominic and Logan Wood. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded by brothers James, Melvin and Jasper Lee Sirk and Sister Edna Ritchie. Condon, Helen I.
Helen I. Condon (nee Smith), age 89, of Sykesville, died Monday September 8, 2008, at Lookabout Manor in Westminster, MD. She was born September 7, 1919, in Frederick County, Maryland the daughter of the late Thomas Smith and the late Minnie Hatfield Smith. She was raised by her stepmother late Florida Haines Smith. She was a farmer. She also was a Nurses Aide at Springfield State Hospital. She loved her flowers, especially roses. She loved Baking and baking for her family. She was the wife of the late William Parker, Sr. and the late Donald Condon. She was the mother of Ernest Parker and wife Pat of Kissimmee, FL., Louise Joyner of Pennington Cap, VA., Ruth Bozzell of Manchester and William Parker, Jr. and wife Kittie of Finksburg and the late Donald Parker. Also survived by 13 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Funeral Service will be Thursday September 11, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield (Beside South Carroll High School), with the Rev. Henry Ernst of Flohrville U.M. Church officiating. Interment Lake View Memorial Park. Friends may call the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA on Wed. from 7-9 PM and on Thursday from 10:00-11:00 AM at which time service will begin.
